8 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2000 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 07/01/2001

The accelerator pedal on the pickup has and still does stick when trying to accelerate slightly/slowly forward or backward as in parallel parking. The problem is worse in hot weather. The dealer, during warranty period, told me they found no defect and knew of no defect. I left it go. My friend who owns a Saturn sedan told me he has the same problem with the accelerator sticking during small maneuvers. I have just read that there are twelve complaints similar to my issue that have been reported to your agency. I am reporting the same at present though the problem has been ongoing for ten years. It makes close parking difficult and I try to avoid the situation because of such. I have almost crashed many times because of the amount of overpressure to the accelerator to make the truck move.

9 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 1997 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 06/25/2001

My throttle plate broke. I was driving down a county road, I let off the accelerator and my truck continued to accelerate to uncontrollable speeds of 75 m. P. H. I then pulled over immediately to check to make sure my accelerator pedal was not stuck somehow. I started my engine and it idled a little higher than normal at about 2000 r. P. M. 's. I didnt think too much of it and started home. By the time I was at my house I could barely control my truck, and was not able to push in the clutch because the engline flew to over 3700 r. P. M. 's if I did so. When I got home, I called a tow service and had it towed to a mechanic. He said my throttle plate had broke which he had never seen before and said I was very lucky to be alive, much less have an engine. He fixed it for $510.

10 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2000 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 06/01/2001

My accelerator pedal has been sticking for quite some time. It was very subtle at first and I didn't give it much thought. I had intended to mention it to my dealer but didn't because I began having problems with not being able to start my truck. After about five or six trips to the dealer they finally installed a new computer component that had been recalled and fixed the problem. Now my warranty is up and the gas pedal seems to stick more often. I can live with it while traveling because it doesn't stick at a current speed that I am driving at; it sticks when I want to start out or accelerate. My concern is that recently when I started the truck it stuck to the point that when I tried to depress it stuck and then freed to where I darted out of my parking spot. This was scary and I decided I had better report it to the dealer. I had a service completed on may 23, 02 and raised my concerns with shawn d. In the service dept. And another gentleman (name unknown). The unknown party asked me if my truck was still under warranty and I told him no. I also pointed out that this should be a recall item as it could be a major accident waiting to happen. He said they were aware of the problem and that it was a carbon buildup that took about an hour to repair. He said gm hasn't decided to recall it at this point. I don't feel that I should have to pay for a potential safety hazard that was a manufacturer's boo boo. I am surprised that a company that has such wonderful marketing ads stressing professional service and pride would overlook a problem that could prove extremely costly to them in the future. I hope you can be of some assistance to me.

Accelerator pedal sticks at idle takes great pressure to move. When it breaks free pedal goes full travel (to floor) idle to full throttle immeadiately. Very rare occurance starting 2 years ago, beginning to be very frequent when engine is cold and starting to occur even when engine is warm. Very dangerous, as pedestrians and other vehicles are at great risk of collision as vehicle accellerates rapidly. The accelerator pedal has been sticking intermittently for the past 5 months. It takes extra effort to move the pedal from the neutral (rest) position in order to accelerate. This condition is intermittent. Currently, the sticking is barely noticeable. Other times, it is very apparent. Note: I know of two other GMC Sierra and chevy silverado ownes at my place of employment. Both have had this problem (both are year 1999 vehicles, one 2wd, the other 4wd). 18 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra

Accelerator pedal stickes in the closed position (foot off of the pedal) this was first noted around 20,000 to 24,000 miles. Dealer cleaned throttle body (around 28,000 to 30,000 miles) which corrected the problem for about 6 months. The accelerator pedal sticks about 80 to 90% of the time. The concern I have is that if I am backing up to a trailer for hook-up or backing out of a parking space, that in my efforts to release the pedal, the vehicle could lurch, resulting in property damage or bodily injury.
