Speed Control Linkage Problems of GMC Sierra

GMC Sierra owners have reported 10 problems related to speed control linkage (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Speed Control Linkage problem of the 2000 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 11/01/2004

Throttle becomes sticky when closed. As a result extra force is required on the accelerator when initialy depressed. This is an extremly dangerous situation especialy in parking lots or other tight, highly populated areas since extra force is required on the accelerator to "break it free" once it does "break free" the vehicle can lunge/lurch foreward uncontroled. This situation makes smooth throttle control unobtainable. The problem seems to get worse with higher ambient temperatures as I assume the throttle plate expands when hot and binds in the throttle body. Cleaning the throttle body provides relief for a very short period. I have read about this problem on several internet message boards and believe that gm offers an updated throttle body to correct this problem. Due to the extreem safety hazzard I feel that gm is neglegent in not offering to correct this problem at their cost, as gm does seem to be aware of the deficiency.

3 Speed Control Linkage problem of the 2000 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 07/10/2003

We purchased a used 2000 GMC and within a month experienced experienced throttle sticking closed so severe you could not move the vehicle. Then if you applied a lot of pressure it would lurch forward. We took it in after a couple of months to a local GMC dealer and they said it was the throttle body and it was warped and would need to be replaced. They had no explanation why it would have become warped. We paid 643. 00. When we picked up the vehicle my wife went online to research if there were any problems and came across a reference to a TSB so we checked out NHTSA and under defects was listed the investigation that is still open about the throttle body( ea02-015) . We were very upset and took in copies of the TSB and spoke to the service manager. On our receipt was listed another TSB #00-06-04-007b as to why they replaced it. But with a charge. We felt they should had disclosed this problem and that odi was investigating it . The service manager said he would call GMC and we received a call the next day that GMC would be sending us a check for 400 to cover the part. That seems fair but we definately feel this is a safety issue. Had we not been older drivers and very cautious we could have been involved in an accident. It could have stuck open as well as closed.

Dealership has not examined vehicle. The truck was examined by dealer's service department. Technician cleaned linkage and made accelerator pedal easier to operate. The technician stated that a carbon build up on some related part when engine was cold, might have caused a malfunction.

10 Speed Control Linkage problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra

Throttle plate sticks at idle requiring additional force to release. This caused vehicle to fail to come out of idle at red lights and intersections. Dealership charged me repeatedly for cleanings and argued with me regarding TSB's about the throttle. I was told I was not supposed to have that information and it didn't matter. I was told throttle body systems are normal maintenance and the throttle body needed replacement every 10,000 miles. The drivers seat (manual) would unexpectedly release throwing me into the steering wheel. Plastic part broke from seat track. Dealership failed to fix, damaged the seat further trying to grind on the track and hammered seat track in the closed position to force the seat from moving. Charged me for damaging the seat. Gm customer service called to argue my complaints, I was told they didn't have any control over the dealership, and if they said the seat was fixed they would back the dealership. This is going to cause me to have an accident.
