GMC Sierra owners have reported 26 problems related to dashboard crack (under the structure category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I have a issue with my dashboard cracking along the airbag module door. I believe if I was or involved in a accident and the air bags are deployed the pieces of dash can become fragments and cause excessive injury and also could deflate the airbags upon expansion. Causing more injury than deem necessary.

While detailing my truck on October 30, 2017 I discovered a crack on the dash about an inch and a half long running from the top left of the airbag cover towards the defroster vent . Took the vehicle in for servicing on October 31, 2017 and they stated to contact GMC cares that they were familiar with this kind of problem. I called GMC they stated they were unaware of this problem on my make and model truck. They stated that I needed to contact the dealer and have the dealer contact GMC. The dealer told me to contact GMC. After doing a quick search on the internet I discovered this has been an ongoing problem that GMC has been aware of and is not fixing and apparently this will only going to get worse as time goes by. The safety concern I have is it so close to the airbag on the passenger side that if the airbag deploys in a crash will cause shards of broken dash to fly around in the cab injuring the passengers. .
Dash has been cracked completely through on passenger side by airbag, now I have a crack just above instrument cluster. Vehicle only has 47,000 miles and the cracks just appear out of no where. The vehicle is not driven off roading or anything like that it is immaculate other then now cracked up dash. It's never been in an accident.
Dashboard is cracked in multiple spots. Paint seems really thin. Original paint never been abused. As for dashboard I guess its a common thing right by the air bag and driver side. Scary to think about a collision and shards of plastic flying toward your face.
Dash board is cracking in three places . The most concerning one is around the passengers air bag. My passenger could be impaled with pieces of the dash if the airbag were to deploy.
Dashboard is cracked around speaker and passenger side airbag. Noticed it around 75k miles and has spread significantly over the year.

The dashboard is cracking above the instrument panel to the right of the airbag assembly. The truck is rarely driven, and has just passed 30,000 miles. The crack appeared while the truck sat in a stationary position in an enclosed garage.
My Sierra has the same problem that many other gm vehicles have. The dash is cracking, creating loose pieces. It is cracked at the airbag. This sharp edges could impair the proper function of the airbag. In the event of an accident, I am afraid the loose dash pieces could post a danger to the vehicles occupants.
The dashboard cracked on its own. Right across the control panel and on the outer edges of the passenger airbag. I have an extended warranty through amtrust (official gm warranty partner) - but they declined to cover the replacement. These cracks are identical to hundreds I see posted from gm truck owners online.
Tl- the contact owns a 2012 GMC Sierra. The contact stated while getting in the vehicle that it was brought to the contacts attention that the passenger side dash board was cracked above the air bag housing. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the dash board was cracked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 57,000. Wh.

My dash has large gaps/cracks in the dashboard. These range from the windshield all the way the front piece of trip. The dash is completely separated. Right in the center of the dash, around the airbags, and the other smaller parts or the dash are cracked too. I use a sun shield, so that is not the case. My daughter and I have both cut our hands on the dash. She was so surprised when she got in the truck that she asked if I had a wreck, and then ran her hand over the dash and cut her palm ad two fingers. I also cut my hand while trying to clean it so that stuff does not drop down the crack, such as dirt or dust, can't that start a fire with the wires and the heater down there? another thing is my vents don't wok like they are suppose to. The dash is so broken you can hear sounds of plastic vibrating and blowing in the vents. This directly effects the air flow to, it's like its not even connected. This all happened while the vehicle was in the garage stationary not running.

Dashboard cracking.
Major issue involving cracking of dash around passenger airbag opening and instrument cluster area. I have noticed several vehicles covering all years and usage with similar cracks some major. Concerned that if an accident with front air bag deployment injury could occur due to fractured plastic.
Dashboard crack above steering column and above passenger side airbag. This issue poses safety concerns regarding whether the airbag will be punctured or otherwise ineffective during deployment due to the sharp cracked edges of the dash as well as the potential for shards of cracked dash becoming projectiles causing injury to occupants during a collision. Nothing happened to the vehicle. We were driving down the freeway and noticed the crack. The cracks become larger everyday.
Tl-the contact owns a 2012 GMC denali. The contact stated the dash board cracked. The contact was unsure if it occurred prior to driving, but notice while driving and rattling sounds alarmed them. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the dash board needed to be repaired. The failure had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000. Jb.
Dashboard cracking severely above instrument cluster. Dashboard rattling severely causing dash to vibrate and cover to airbag to vibrate substantially. Concern that dash will completely fall causing air bag failure in crash.
Dash is cracked at passenger airbag. I have concerns about sharp plastic during airbag deployment causing serious injury.
Dash cracked top left corner passenger side air bag. This is a very common problem simply google GMC cracked dash and you shall see. If the air bag deploys plastic shrapnel would be sent all over the cabin. Very dangerous problem that gm is ignoring a recall should be issued.
My 2008 GMC dash is cracked in two places above the passenger side air bag. After searching on the internet this crack(s) are a chronic defect in the 07/08 general motors trucks and SUV's. No reason for these cracks, no impact, etc. . . There is a common concern the owners share that this defect could impact the deployment of the air bag in the event of a crash.
2010 Sierra denali with 53k. 1st dash crack at passenger airbag with approx 20k. 2nd dash crack over steering column at approx 40k. We had to stuff a piece of cardboard in the dash because it rattled so badly. We also have: 1. Passenger door handle chrome peeling and sharp enough to cut 2. A/c control buttons worn off 3. Both front heat/cooled seats have stopped working 4. Running board steps cracked on both sides 5. Tail gate will not stay closed unless locked.
