GMC Sierra owners have reported 3 problems related to underbody shield (under the structure category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The rear upper frame mount for the shock absorber failed due to corrosion. The non-paint rubberized coating placed on the entire frame of this vehicle is flaking off and exposing the bare steel to the elements. The frame of this vehicle has more rust than should be expected on a 50 year-old truck but it is less than eight years old. The truck is well taken care of and the body shows no signs of rust. The failure of the non-paint rubberized frame coating has rendered this 2005 Sierra un-drivable.

Driving truck in town applied brakes at a stoplight brake pedal went straight to the floor. No brakes at all had to go thru the red light and around 3 cars in front of me, rubbed the curb to get the truck to stop. Rust and corrosion on the steel rear brake lines caused line failure.

I noticed some corrosion on the frame and undercarriage when I purchased the vehicle, but purchased a warranty thinking I'd be covered if it got worse. The corrosion is not covered and the corrosion is getting much worse very quickly. My frame will rust through at some point.
