36 Electrical System problem of the 2008 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 09/27/2014

My truck started to activate the brakes in the middle of the 3 lane 680 freeway, doors started to lock and unlock, navigation went dark, muiltiple different displays on dashboard, numer of lights from the air conditioner unit, came on. Acceleration or brakes would not respond, we were unable to drive off the freeway. It was a scary moment, we were lucky that no big rig was following us, or it would had runs us over, and probably killed us.

37 Electrical System problem of the 2010 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 09/25/2014

On or about that date, driving about 25 miles on rural roads at speeds from 45 to 55 mph, the dampness in the air caused condensation haze to form on the inside of the window. I turned on the defrosters which cleared off the drivers side window so I could see but the passengers side never cleared and I had 0 visibility to anything on the right hand side of the road or pulling out from driveways or roads on the right hand side. I took it to the dealer to get repaired to be told gm had a service bulletin on this that showed them how to reprogram the system to correct this issue. Also this vehicle is equipped with a rear camera system that is intermittent in its operation, sometimes blurred images or sometimes blank completely. The dealer disconnected and reconnected the camera systems thinking the connection might have an issue by being contaminated, oxidized, or loss. Not sure if related but the dealership has replaced my right rear speaker several times claiming that the speaker is seeing shorts and/or higher power or shorting internally. Being this is multiple times (3 or 4 times for this same repair) what other electrical system problems will I be seeing and will any of these lead to fires of additional system damage. Even with these know issues and service bulletins issued on the blower system as documented on the repair invoice, while knowing that loss of vision through the window is possible, gm has not initiate any campaign to proactively fix this. Only after the problem occurs and if the person is lucky to avoid accidents will they address this when you come into complain about, but by that time they hope it is out of warranty so they can charge you. After all it is unsafe to drive the vehicle without this system working properly so people will pay to get this fixed.

38 Electrical System problem of the 2002 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 09/17/2014

Folks; what is the story with tin whiskers forming in soldered electrical components? does my GMC have lead free solder anywhere in it's electrically soldered components? I've have multiple failed electrical systems which implies multiple shorts. What makes, models and years are this problem known to have occurred in besides the Toyota camry 2003? what are you doing to fix this problem?.

40 Electrical System problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 08/16/2014

Headlights on this vehicle are terrible. Very poor illumination for night driving. There should be a safety recall for these headlights, pickup is dangerous to drive at night. Headlights light up road about 50-60 feet and offer very poor side vision. High beams are useless and shine up in the trees and not on the road. Vehicle has projectors with only a flapper to change high/low beam. Ihave been driving for 40 years and have never driven a vehicle with this poor headlight design. I cannot believe headlight passed photometric design certification (maybe they did not) I have complained to GMC but they say headlights are working as designed. Headlight assemblies were replaced once and adjusted several times by dealer. Still no remedy to the problem.

44 Electrical System problem of the 2013 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 04/29/2014

My husband was driving home in traffic when a woman driving the opposite direction decided to pass a vehicle. He swerved to avoid a head on collision which meant he had to go off of the road. When he attempted to get back on the road the truck shot across to the other side of the road. The dps officer told my husband he hit a culvert and flipped 5- 6 times. Witnesses had to pull him out of the truck and had mentioned there was a slight fire that they put out. During all of this none of the airbags deployed. He went to the doctor the following day to get checked out.

45 Electrical System problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 04/19/2014

Rusted out/ corroded brake lines burst while stopping for a deer running out on the road. Was warned of this problem upon purchase of the vehicle in 2010 and personally coated all brake lines b4 winter every year. . . Never saw worse lines! I own classic cars that are twice as old with shiney original brake lines. The fuel lines also rotted out spilling fuel over the top of the fuel tank and on the ground while filling up. All fuel lines and fuel pump connections were severely rotted. Worst I have seen. Dash consistently changes languages rendering odometer non functional. Speedometer is inaccurate some times not even working especially on cold days. Hmmmm rotted brakes+no speedometer+leaky fuel lines=crash, bang boom!. . And I have a car seat in my vehicle! luckly I perform preventative maintenance and drive safely. Still wonder how these issues got swept under the rug.

46 Electrical System problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 04/16/2014

Tl-the contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 70 mph, the four doors unlocked independently. The failure recurred several times. 47 Electrical System problem of the 2008 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 03/04/2014

All 4 door locks do not lock/unlock unless done manually. Big safety issue!!! notice a lot of complaints on this maybe it is time for a recall.

48 Electrical System problem of the 2013 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

Mice, rabbits etc. Chewed through wires because GMC puts peanut oil on their wires. GMC dealer said they would fix wires but the problem will persist because peanut oil is bait for these animals. This is a problem that was reported on a 2012 vehicle. This could cause fires etc and needs to be fixed. The vehicle wasnt running right, engine light was on and chewed wires were discovered. Were told by GMC dealer there is no permanent fix because they use peanut oil because its cheap! we've only had the vehicle since September 2013. GMC will put the wires together again but not fix the main problem of the peanut oil. This is a problem that is completely avoidable, yet a problem that is built into the the vehicle.

49 Electrical System problem of the 2005 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 02/01/2014

Oil pressure gauge stopped working. Entire instrument cluster had to be replaced. $650. 00. Ridiculous.

50 Electrical System problem of the 2010 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 01/25/2014

30 minutes after my wife parked our 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 pick-up in our detached garage, we heard a boom and I ran outside to see the GMC cab and hood on fire. I immediately thought, my god my wife was just in there and there is no way she could have survived. I proceeded to call 911 and all the neighbers to evacuate their homes because we live in a very wooded area and I thought the fire would spread. It burned the GMC, my suburban, our pontoon boat, our sons chevy z-71 pick-up and the garage to the ground.

51 Electrical System problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/02/2013

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that the speedometer would either display an inaccurate speed reading or become completely inoperable. The contact indicated that the defect was diagnosed by the dealer and the contact was informed that a new instrument panel cluster needed to be installed to remedy the defect. No repairs were performed on the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 83000.

52 Electrical System problem of the 2005 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/02/2013

The instrument cluster panel on my 2005 GMC Sierra pick up constantly reads the wrong speed. At times it registers 0 mph when im actually driving or it reads 120mph when stopped. Also the oil pressure gauge is pegged out. There sames to be alot of complaints for the same thing on the year and model, you need to make gm do a recall on this.

53 Electrical System problem of the 2003 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 11/13/2013

Vehicle goes into reduced engine power mode at interstate speeds without warning and increases risk of being rear ended, does not have enough power to safely get the vehicle off the road when in the left lane with other cars behind. More instances of this same scenario over the past few months than I can count. Throttle body has been cleaned. There are too many internet forum posts detailing many different parts having been replaced by dealerships and other mechanics and the problem still existing to just start replacing parts because the costs too quickly is unsustainable.

56 Electrical System problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 06/12/2013

I have a 2004 GMC Sierra that has an electrical issue with the abs or brake system. The brake light, abs light and service brake system light goes off at random times. Might have something to do with the air conditioning because the a/c draws power from the battery and I can see that a certain level the indicators go off. Most of the time the lights chime and blink when I apply the brake but it also has happened when just turned the truck on. I've replaced the rotors and pads to still have the problem. I'm not sure if it's a ground or sensor that is failing. I've found TSB for regrounding, failing sensors, or ecbm. Still haven't found the correct diagnosis. I just hope the abs functions when I need it.

57 Electrical System problem of the 2011 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

Tl-the contact owns a 2011 GMC Sierra. The contact received a notification of NHTSA campaign number:14v827000 (electrical system). 58 Electrical System problem of the 2008 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

This is not an official complaint however as the ignition problem unfolds with the gm products I wanted to take the opportunity to bring to the attention a very serious problem that occurred approximately a year or so ago with my 2008 GMC Sierra. I typically park my truck in the garage with the key in the ignition. We have a live camera in the garage and one morning around 7 am after a severe thunderstorm around 3 am I found on the camera the truck running with flashing headlights. I went to garage immediately and was hit with very high heat due to the truck running. With the carbon monoxide potential I did not go into the garage. I got my wife's keys and tried a "remote stop" and the headlights stopped flashing but the engine continued to run. I open both garage doors and went outside so I could enter the garage from the outside. I opened the truck door and barely touched the key in the ignition and the truck shut off. It was not turned on! without a doubt it had been running about four hours since the storm. I contacted gm and was told to take it to the local dealer. After telling the dealer the story they basically laughed at me and said that I would have to bring it in when the next storm came thru. They later run a diagnostic test at gm request and found a mysterious ignition code but no solution. What makes this even stranger is that we also had a 2010 yukon that started on its own one afternoon when myself, a sheriff deputy and three other neighbors were standing next to it during a severe lightning storm. The garage door was open, the keys were "not" in the ignition but when there was a loud lightning strike it started. To run. I did not contact anyone and it never happened again until the truck started after a lightning storm. I have since sold both vehicles but they are still in the local area. I really feel the gm ignition problem goes a lot deeper!!.

59 Electrical System problem of the 2003 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 05/15/2013

The contact owns a 2003 GMC Sierra. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked and the engine was turned off when he heard a noise and noticed that the air conditioning blower had independently activated. The failure recurred and the battery was disconnected in order to deactivate the blower motor. The vehicle was taken to the authorized dealer where the blower motor resister was replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the defect and they informed there was no recall. The approximate failure mileage was 111,000.

60 Electrical System problem of the 2008 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 04/11/2013

On the morning of April 11 we had a severe thunderstom at approx. 3:00am. Later in the morning at approximately 6:30am I found my 2008 Sierra truck running in my garage with the garage doors shut. The headlights were flashing and the garage was extremely hot due to the engine running. There was a lot of water condensation on the floor indicating that the engine had been running for quite some time. The temperature guage was at running temperature. My keys were in the ignition so I opened the garage to air out the carbon monoxide and took my wife's keys and tried to stop it remotely but it would not stop. A few minutes later I went outside and came in thru the garage door trying not to breath the fumes. By then the truck was not runnung. I found the check engine light on. When I touched the key in the ignition the check engine light went out. The seat presets were messed up and the clock was several hours off. There was absolutely no way the truck was remote started. Even if it was it should only run for 10 minutes. This was a very serious and dangerous situation! continuing on with a similar situation a year ago, there was a severe thunderstorm coming thru. Our neighbors had come to our house during the warning since we had a basement. We were all standing in the garage with the garage door open and our 2010 GMC yukon started up like someone turned on the ignition. There were no keys in the ignition. The electrical storm was on-going when this happened. We saw our neighbor leave in her yukon so we thoguht maybe she remote started hers so I followed up with her to see if she had remoted started her car and she had not. She tried to remote start her car and it did not affect ours whatsoever. It appears that both incidents seem to be storm related. It is a very serious and dangerous situation knowing this could happen while we were asleep or away for a few days.

61 Electrical System problem of the 2008 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 03/29/2013

Erratic door lock behavior. Passenger and rear driver side door will not lock or unlock consistently. The passenger side lock not locking resulted in the theft of a handgun from my vehicle. This deficiency leaves the vehicle susceptible to theft, carjacking, doors coming open on impact. Passengers, especially children are at risk of opening the vehicle door while in motion. In the event of an emergency the doors effected can not be unlocked from other than the manual latch button to aid passengers.

62 Electrical System problem of the 2009 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 02/20/2013

About 2 months after we purchased our pre-owned 2009 GMC Sierra denali we started having problems with the engine power and all sensors going off. The sensors start going off the stability control cuts off it says engine power reduced then doesn't want to shift and kills in middle of traffic. It will do it for a few days and then just starts working right again. So we never know when it's going to happen or where we will be. It's like it's not running on all cylinders.

63 Electrical System problem of the 2013 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 02/15/2013

The contact owns a 2013 GMC Sierra. The contact stated that while reversing, the park assist light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis but they were unable to duplicate the problem. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 5,000.

64 Electrical System problem of the 2012 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/17/2012

The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The failure mileage was 60,000. Kmj.

66 Electrical System problem of the 2008 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 09/10/2012

We have had three of the power locks go out - first was front passenger, which was under warranty and covered free of charge, so was the second - the front drivers side. But, the rear passenger side went out a year later and now they will not cover it under warranty. My concern is that, having small children, I have had them locked inside the vehicle and the unlock doesn't work, so I have to climb through to access the door lock. In an event of an emergency, where time is of essence - this is a severe issue.

67 Electrical System problem of the 2013 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 08/08/2012

The contact owns a 2013 GMC Sierra 3500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and the contact heard a loud sloshing noise of fuel coming from the fuel tank. Immediately when the sound emitted a violent and forceful movement from the exterior rear of the vehicle occurred. The contact continued to drive. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer which informed the contact that the vehicle operated normally. In addition, the instrument cluster and radio would not dim in the night mode. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 150.

68 Electrical System problem of the 2006 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 07/25/2012

The driver's side seat heater randomly comes on. If you turn it off it comes right back on again and cycles through the various heat settings. It creates a dangerous distraction in the florida heat. I've taken it to numerous dealers, none of which can fix it. I call gm and they won't even consider it until I take it back to a dealer saying they will only get involved if I have taken it to a dealer within the last 30 days. One dealer told me that was a lie, there is no 30 day requirement. This issue is more of a distraction than texting. Looking it up online it's a common problem but gm denies it even though gm did issue a TSB to have the drivers door module reprogrammed. I had that done and it made the problem worse. A straight up safety issue. I have the same problem with a 2005 suburban and filed a complaint on that one too. Nothing came of that either so it appears this site and agency is nothing more than a sounding board. Gm and NHTSA cannot afford to distance themselves from this.

69 Electrical System problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 06/11/2012

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Sierra. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was ble to be restarted after the contact shifted into neutral. The failure was recurring over a period of two years. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who could not duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

70 Electrical System problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 06/09/2012

When my issues started, I would fill my gas tank and the gas gauge would plummet to empty. While driving, it would go to full, back to empty or be anywhere in between. At that time, there no no mechanical issues, just the annoying fact that you had no idea how much fuel you actually had. This went on until this spring, when I had the first potentially dangerous incident. I was driving down a county highway at approximately the speed limit and the truck's engine just shut off. No power steering, nothing. It happened just as I was coming to a stop sign thankfully. I was about 50 miles from home and was able to call a friend that manages the collision center of a local car dealership to see about getting a tow or his opinion as to what was wrong. After about ten minutes and after numerous attempts, it restarted. I talked to several mechanics and got the same answer from all of them: the fuel pump and sending unit fail in GMC trucks around the mileage, 95,000 miles, that I currently have on the truck. The gas gauge is still erratic, I have had two episodes of the vehicle stalling and now the service engine soon light is coming on and when it is put on an analyzer it says emissions, but there is nothing wrong with the emissions system. I have also talked to owners who have had theirs replaced and everyone says to get a factory made pump because the cheap aftermarkets break down even quicker. I googled the information and the problem appears to be widespread.
