1 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 03/22/2016

There is a extremely dangerous electrics issue with my 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 all terrain. In the last 18 months my truck has locked the steering at low speed while turning 8 times. (I could have easily broken a finger a lost control of my truck) . On 5 of the times I had steering issue the truck had no power to anything including key fobs for a period of 10 to 15 minutes. Then the truck will power up again. Fortunately these issues have occurred at low speed. This has happen 8 times in the last 18 months . It has been to dealership for service regarding this issue they changed the battery after only 18 months (10/2015) the issue occur again 2 days ago while traveling on the freeway at 70 mph my truck shut down no power then in less than a second it powered up again all the setting on my radio, climate control changed. That day I stopped to get gas got back in my truck pulled away from the pump the steering locked truck shut down again for 20 minutes. This truck is currently at a dealership they still can not diagnos the issue. I'm extremly concern that someone could be seriously injured or killed if this was to happen while operating this truck. I did see that may other owner of GMC Sierra have expressed similar concerns. The issues needs to be addressed immediately. As for myself I plan to this truck after the dealership attempts another repair.

3 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2012 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 06/14/2013

After exiting interstate lost steering and brakes briefly in parking lot. Pumped brake and both returned after a hissing sound. Recurred a few times in next 6 months or so. Then, in the fall of 2013, lost steering and brakes on I-49/us71b heading south from joplin, missouri. You could pump the brakes and briefly regain, but for the most part all steering and brakes were out. Took truck to GMC dealer where purchased new in bentonville. Dealer confirmed no steering and brakes and damaged bumper while vehicle in its possession by bumping into parking lot barrier. Dealer diagnosed power steering pump problem and indicated that brakes and power steering are tied to same pump/system. Dealer replaced pump but said that even though it was a two or three part system could only replace the pump. Truck continued to have problems and was taken back to dealer following similar episode where lost both steering and brakes. Dealer refused to do anything to replace the other components because could not replicate the problem. Dealer claimed no notice of any other complaints of this nature form gm or any other source. We pleaded with the dealer about it being a safety issue and asked that the dealer replace the other components it identified as possibly related. Dealer took no further action claiming without gm telling them to look further and pay for it they could do nothing else. Truck continues to have problems intermittently. It is nonsensical for a truck to have two significant safety systems tied together with no secondary support or fail safe system to guarantee that operator still have brakes and steering at all times. Truck also has rattles consistent with the service letters / issues noted on this website.

4 Power Steering Pump problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/04/2012

Truck was extremely hard to steer the evening of 12/03/2012. There was a grinding type noise when turns were attempted. Took vehicle to a shop for a power steering pump replacement. The shop change the pump and the solid metal power steering hose. It turned out that the hose was the cause of the problem. The repair went fine and I picked up the truck and drove it for approximately 3 months. It seems the replacement solid metal power steering hose broke in the same place, where it screws into the pump. It is now may 2013, and the second replacement power steering hose has broken again. I willtake it to the shop Monday, may 21, 2013. I am hoping this hose will last. What could be causing this problem?.

10 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2000 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 03/12/2005

Took the truck into a local goodyear store to have a whining noise diagnosed. The technician could not hear the noise and turned the wheel in one direction. When he tried to turn it back, it would not turn. He proceeded to replace the power steering pump and advised us that the shaft on the power steering pump had just snapped or broken. The power steering pump was replaced, and we retained the old power steering pump. I had heard about a recall for a similar issue and called a gm dealership to inquire into the recall. I was advised that gm had issued a recall for the year, make, and model of our truck for the exact problem we had experienced, but that our particular truck (when it was looked up by VIN number) was not included in the recall. It sounds like the recall needs to be expanded to include additional trucks.

14 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 08/20/2001

Steering wheel jerks in hand when depressing brakes while making a right hand turn. This can be duplicated with the vehicle idling in neutral or park. Dealership attempted to fix problem on 01/25/02 by replacing the power steering pump and brake booster. When I attempted to pick up my truck on the 25th, I was notified by marcus that they had not found the problem and that they considered the problem a safety issue, I wasn't allowed to have the vehicle but was given a loaner to drive. My vehicle was returned on the 29th and I was told that since the dealership could duplicate the "problem" on another new vehicle on the lot, gm had determined it was not a problem but a "characteristic" of this vehicle with the power assist. I contact gm customer assistance to make them aware of my concern with the safety of this vehicle but to no avail. I asked them to document my concerns. It is apparent that the dealership was initially concerned that there was a safety issue with this vehicle or they would have returned it on the 25th. I am concerned with gm's response that this is a "characteristic" of the vehicle just because some others exhibit the same problem. I was just recently made aware of your website and would greatly appreciate your assistance with this matter. Thank you! scott.
