Complaint received via e-mail. "my pickup has occasional resistance when moving the steering wheel while driving. It feels like something is catching and then letting go. The steering wheel jerks a little when this happens. It's more annoying that anything. The truck has 130,000 miles on it. I bought it with 44,000 miles. The truck has been into three different shops without the problem corrected. ".

A brushing failure in steering column that was not covered under a manufacturer's recall and out of its warranty. Dealer notified. Feel free to provide any further details on this matter.
Brakes seem to sputter when depressed heavy/light @ any speed. This problem still continues. General tire brand-rear right tire blew out the side wall on freeway @ 75mph-ran over nothing. Right rear tire was replace @ no cost, due to failure. Problem has not accured yet. Steering wheel always feels loose-has been checked and service claimed "there is no problem". Also mother-in-law has a 2000 4dr ext. Cab with the same brake problems among a few others including ac vents smelling ect. Service has checked and replaced few brake parts(2 times) and problem still accures. All of these problems presist and are a major safety problem to my family and I. We would really like to see these problems fixed before any injuries accure!!!!!.
The vechicle has 4-6 inches of play which is excessive for a low milage truck.
Consumer was driving along & steering locked up. Vehicle drifted over to a mail box & into a ditch. Dealer hasn't inspected vehicle to see what caused it.
Steering column was loose. Consumer said when he turned left or right there was a knocking noise from underneath the hood.
While coming down a hill put foot on brakes, and it felt like pushing on a brick wall. Consumer proceeded through a stop sign. Consumer has to press brake down twick before vehicle will stop. The brakes failed twice. The steering column makes a grinding noise when turning. Horn failed. Keyless entery failed. Door locks failed. Interior lights failed. The fan in the front end is very loud. The speedometer is inaccurate. The power steering pump shaft broke.
My truck was in fourteen months later for the same repair-I feel this is a safety issue- the dealership told me that they have replaced many of these sensors - I did not feel safe letting my wife drive my truck, especially at speeds over 45mph. No precise safety defect listed.
Vehicle went out of control and hit the median causing injury to driver and passengers because of brake and steering mechanism failure. Yh.
In the process of making a left or right turn the steering wheel becomes loose with no resistance. Then, while trying to correct the steering the wheel gets tight, seems to have no power steering. Dealer has been contacted.
Steering wheel fades out, moves in the direction of the turn, but does not impair the direction of the tires.
When traveling at high rate of speed the steering wheel becomes very loose, causing the consumer to lose control of the vehicle for a short period. Consumer has contacted the dealer.

Poor design of steering column upper shaft caused it to fail every 10,000 miles. Manufacturer is aware of defect. But, no corrective action is available.
Have had a moderate to sometimes severe steering vibration from the day I drove the truck off the lot. . . . Vibration is most noticeable at speeds over 65mph. . . . . . . . . Gets worse as speeds increase. . . . . . . . . Have taken vehicle back to dealer twice in the first 1000 miles . . . . Each time the tires were spin balanced. . No satisfaction. . . . Dealer is now stating that they took other trucks for test rides and they have same vibration characteristics. . . . Is this inherent in the design? . . . I've checked the complaints section of your site and noticed that nearly 1/2 of the complaints for 1999 GMC/Chevrolet pickups involve some sort of steering wheel vibration. . . .
