Tl- the contact owns a 2020 GMC sierra. The VIN was not provided. The contact stated that driving 52 mph, the brake pedal stiffened and did not stop the vehicle. The emergency brake did not work. The vehicle was coasted to a parking lot and was put in park. The brake system failure light, the abs and some other lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the baker Buick GMC of charleston dealer, located at 1621 savannah hwy, charleston, SC 29407) where the vehicle was kept for a diagnostic test. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the failure was a known issue and referred the contact to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was appr.
The abs and break system warning light has been coming on and staying on. I lost my breaks leaving a parking spot at my local walmart as I was pulling out of a parking spot! we then made appointment for the break system to be checked/repaired. The abs control system light went off for awhile but then comes back on even after the repair of said repair to break lines. My truck also has no fuel gauge that does not work. With these issues on my vehicle makes it very scary to drive and makes driving limited. I am not able to drive my truck long distances due to concerns of safety and possibly of abs warning light, break issues, and fuel gauge! I was driving my truck to pick one of my daughters up from school to lose power while pushing on gas then some jerking and a foul smell of rubber burning coming from the front right tire area. I then had someone look at the truck and was told that what ever it was happening that everything looked okay and it was possible just a break sticking. It has happened 3 different times. My truck still has approximately 98,000 or so miles on it. This truck also has bad corrosion on bottom baseboards of the truck. I saw below that I am asked for specific date of issues. I can not provide specific dates since there has been so many things wrong which has happened at different times.

Picked up my 2019 sierra at4. I drove it off the lot, got about 3 miles. Stopped to get myself a cup of coffee. Got back into the truck, started it and the check engine light came on, the brake system failure, the abs light, traction control etc. Called the dealer and was told to bring it back. (mind you, I've only actually owned the 63k truck for an hour) I bring the truck back, they take it in for about 20 mins and then the mechanic takes the car for a test drive. He's gonna about 15 minutes or so, comes back and says the truck is good. They fixed a recall recently but never "reset the computer" he says "you're good to go" I drive the 30 minutes home, pull up to the house, turn the truck off. Go inside to get my little ones because they want to go for a ride in daddy's new truck. . We go outside, I start the truck, and it's the same thing these are the codes that came up. It has been back to the dealer 3 times and they havem't found any issue. This is dangerous and something needs to be done. Service esc service trailer brake brake system failure - 62 mph top speed steering assist reduced drive with care.

We had the vehicle recall notice about the stability and power assist repaired at our preferred gm dealership, james wood, before the problem occurred because of a recall notice we received last year. Sunday, January 30, 2018 the dash displayed power assist limited and also displayed abs light . Service engine soon, so we brought it to the dealership again. This time the vehicle was revving high but no display. The dealership observed the vehicle doing this but we were told the recall had already been performed. There is a revised product safety recall reference number n172085440. I'm alerting the NHTSA of this.

When I first got the truck the brakes operated perfectly fine after about three days the brakes on the front of the truck would lock up while I was driving and would not release. After two sets of calipers two sets of brake pads a set of rotors a two weeks go by with the mechanic trying to figure out what is wrong with this truck. They then replace the brake master cylinder, there was no improvement. Turns out to be the brake booster had failed along with the hydraulic abs control unit. There were no warning lights on whatsoever the whole entire time the brakes were locked up the abs light didn't come on until the brake booster was replaced indicating that the abs control unit was also bad. Now I am experiencing a ticking coming from the engine. The ticking occurs at idle end as the throttle is being activated. However the local dealership has refused to give me any information as of why it could be making this ticking noise or is just unwilling to say anything .

I recently took my truck off the road to replace the shock absorbers. While replacing the rear shocks, I noticed that the brake pads were worn to less than one eighth inch thick. I then looked at the front brake pads and noted that they had hardly any wear. I understand that the front brakes do 70% of the braking and the rear brakes do 30%. That made my finding abnormal. All the brake pads and rotors were replaced, at the same time, about one year ago. When I prepared to change the front shocks, I noted that the abs dashboard light was on. I was turning the vehicle around at the time and when I approached the garage I applied the brakes and the pedal went all the way to the floor. A few seconds later, I felt the brakes modulating and the pedal was forcefully pushed back up to the at rest position. The truck continued to roll and the brakes were ineffective. I have always believed that a dual (front/rear) braking system was a safety feature. I was incredulous that this was even possible. I feel fortunate that I was only navigating in my yard. I pull a 27 foot fifth wheel with this truck several times a year. I can only imagine the outcome if this event happened on the highway with the RV attached. I found many anecdotal stories that were similar to mine on several websites. As of now, this truck is grounded until I find a satisfactory explanation for this. The brake fluid reservoir was found to be completely full of brake fluid and an inspection of the brake lines revealed no sign of leakage. I have not yet delved into the trucks abs system, but I have strong reason to believe it is defective.

I was on my way to pick my kids up after school and as I approached a red light I pressed the brake pedal and it went completely to the floor. No dash abs indicator light or warning light showing any fault code came on before or since. Fortunately, I never follow close in traffic and was able to stop my vehicle using the emergency brake, without any incident and nobody getting hurt. Shortly after this incident I safely returned home by using the emergency brake and parked the vehicle. Since it was dark outside when I got home I left all until the next morning to take a look. The following morning behind my left front tire on the ground was a puddle the size of a softball and it was brake fluid, I looked up and traced it to a corroded/rusted/inferior brake line. I called the local gm dealer and was advised there was no recall on my particular vehicle by VIN for this issue, so I then called gm customer care and explained what had took place and gm had it towed to a local dealer. Currently my vehicle is at the dealership in service and as I await word on gm's position on what they intend to do to correct the issue I came across this site and a countless list of other gm customers that have experienced the same problem. I secured a gm case number, took photos of the corroded/rusted/inferior lines and will await what I hope will be the appropriate response from gm, which is to correct the problem free of charge. I'll update this vehicle safety complaint with the response I receive!.

My abs control module is not functioning properly. Abs is disabled and costs $1000 to replace. This is a safety hazard as the brakes can lock up at any moment or abs is disabled and may cause brakes to lock up. The abs light on dashboard is on continuously and the module will need to be replaced or further damage will occur.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 10 mph the abs system will activate increasing the stopping distance of the vehicle and could lead to a crash. The contact stated the abs warning light does not come on when this happens. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic regarding the braking system. The mechanic stated the brake drums should be replaced due to debris build up inside causing the abs system to signal a faulty reading which activates the abs brakes at low speeds. The contact called the manufacturer regarding the abs system and the manufacturer suggested to take the vehicle to a dealer for a diagnostic test. The contact stated the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The failure mileage was 72,000. Jo.
Problem is intermittent. Brake and abs warning lights come on and stay on until engine is turned off. No detectable change in braking. Separately, but also intermittently, at low speeds (no warning lights) the abs is engaged while braking, making the vehicle hard to stop at times. This seems to occur most frequently when turning to the left. Symptoms are very similar, if not identical to NHTSA campaign id number : 05v379000. Many anecdotal descriptions of this same problem in 1999-2002 GMC light trucks can be easily found on the internet.
The contact owns a 2005 GMC Sierra 1500. While driving at 65 mph, the contact noticed that the abs light illuminated on the instrument panel. An hour later, the contact noticed that the vehicle displayed difficulty stopping. After inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the driver side tire was tilted and smoke and flames had began rising from behind the wheel. The contact called the fire department but no report was filed. The vehicle had not been inspected at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 49,000. I own a 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 z71 with 32,000 on the odometer. On the morning of 27aug2008 the abs motor located on the framerail under the driver's seat turned on immediately upon turning the ignition to on. The abs light came on the dash. I had to continue and drive to work. The light stayed on the whole time. Once I arrived at work I removed the fuse for the motor. Now I have no abs and the lights are on all the time. This is the second time this has happened on this vehicle. The first time was only a few days after it was purchased. It was replaced under warranty. The warranty has expired and it will cost approx. $900 to repair. After some investigation online, I have found scores of people that have had the same problem. There is currently no recall in effect according to this website. I feel that this is unacceptable. This is a very clear safety issue. Not only does it render the vehicle without anti-lock brakes, it drains the battery if the fuse is not pulled soon after the problem emerges. This could leave someone stranded in a variety of conditions if they were unable to pull the fuse or not a full understanding of vehicle electric components. I am even more disgusted that this has happened twice on a vehicle that only has 32,000 miles on the odometer and cost almost $40,000. General motors should be forced to replace the defective components and/or upgrade to a higher quality unit free of charge to the victim.

On our sierra GMC 01 the abs brake light has been turning on for 2 months and have had no usage of our emergency brake, we figured it had to do with the emergency brakes so we replaced the emergency brakes and the rear brakes which we purchased the brake shoes for $74. 94,brake pads $33. 97,brake rotor$61. 98,two pnt caliper blk $6. 44 each and the total cost of purchasing this was $199. 91 and to do the repairs we had a family mechanic fix what we believed could be the problem.
The contact owns a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact received a recall notice for the service brakes wheel speed sensor. On September 19, 2007, the dealer repaired the recall; however, the abs and brake warning lights have been illuminated since the recall repair was performed. While driving between 15 and 50 mph, the vehicle made a loud noise. The dealer stated that the wheel speed sensor and wheel bearings were one unit. The dealer also stated that they cleaned one side and the other side did not need to be cleaned. The service manager confirmed that they used force to remove parts from the vehicle and stated that the vehicle was able to withstand much more damage than what occurred. During the recall repair, the dealer damaged the front ball joint and dented the rotors. The driver side ball joints were replaced; however, the failure is worse than it was prior to having the recall repair performed. The dealer was unable to provide the contact with an invoice. When the abs light is illuminated, the brakes fail to operate normally. The contact has to shut off the engine to allow the abs to reset itself. A second diagnosis by a different dealer revealed that the driver and front passenger side wheel bearings were damaged, including the passenger side that was repaired for the recall. The second dealer further stated that the noise was due to the wheel bearings failing to move freely. The manufacturer was informed by the dealer that there was no noise present. The manufacturer provided the contact with claim number 71558918083. The approximate failure mileage was 106,500 and current mileage was 108,500. Updated 03/05/08. The consumer stated informed dealer many times for the ticking heard in the vehicle since the vehicle at the time purchase. Updated 03/04/08.
