1 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 07/21/2020

At around 4,000 miles the front brakes squealed often, mostly when it had been sitting for a while. (brake pads had a lot of meat left). At around 10,000 miles the brakes started grabbing while driving. I played with the e-brake some since this is the most common culprit, and the grabbing went away soon afterwards. Fast forward to 80,000 miles where I changed out the front brake pads. The spring retainer clips were completely destroyed, and the pads had signs of grabbing (had uneven wear). My new pads are squealing just like the first set of pads did. I'm assuming the spring retainers are hitting the rotor, squealing, and eventually breaking. I can only guess that my new pads will be grabbing in a few thousand miles.

2 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 01/04/2020

This issue relates with a recent recall with the gm brake system (NHTSA campaign number: 19v645000 / gm recall number: n192268490). The recall fix by gm fails to fully fix the problem as additional repairs are required to make the vehicle safe again. The incident began when going down a hill at low speed. A message came on the dash that said "service brake assist" and the brakes seemed to lose power which required the driver the use both feet to push down on the brake pedal to prevent a crash into the car in front. The brakes regained normal function for a while then a few miles later the same problem occurred. This went on for for a while longer until the need to use both feet to achieve full stopping power was permanent. Driver pulled over and, through an internet search, discovered many others had the same problem and a recall had been issued. An appointment was made with a local gm dealer and the vehicle was dropped off for repair. The gm dealer called the driver and informed him that additional repairs, beyond the recall instructions, were required for the vehicle's brakes to function adequately and safely. This included replacing the booster pump, brake pads, to "reline the frt brakes as needed. ".

3 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 07/22/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2016 a GMC Sierra 1500. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle started wobbling. The vehicle was taken to wallingford Buick GMC (1122 old north colony rd, wallingford, CT 06492, (203) 269-8741) where the brake pads on the front driver's side wheel were replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and test driven. The technician diagnosed that the rotors needed to be resurfaced, the front brake pads needed to be changed, the transmission fluid needed to be drained, and the computer needed to be reset. The contact retrieved the vehicle and the failures recurred the following day. The dealer advised the contact to give the vehicle a few thousand miles to work out the failures and stated that the transmission was adjusting to the contact's driving habits. The vehicle was not repaired again and the failures were still present. The failure mileage and VIN were unknown.

4 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 05/11/2019

This issue began last year in Nov. 2018. We were in traffic and stopping and going until we couldn't stop and the brake pedal was to the floor and the car was still moving. We brought the truck to the dealer and they said it was the brake pads. We payed $1700 to replace all the pads. The other day (3 months with the new brakes) the issue happened again and the truck wouldn't stop, almost causing an accident that could have seriously injured the elderly lady in front of us and ourselves. This issue is getting worse and presents a hazard to us and everyone on the road. This issue occurs at random times, slowing to get off an exit ramp, in traffic, stopping for cross walkers, etc. We brought it to the dealership and they require us to reenact (putting everyone in danger) the issue and until they experience it, they won't fix it. Leaving us with a car that doesn't stop that will sooner or later cause an accident.

5 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 12/07/2018

Brakes failed completely at low to moderate speeds both going forward and in reverse. Brake pedal went flat to the floor and the vehicle failed to stop. Initially occurred November 7, 2018 and has periodically recurred since then. As of March and April 2019 it has begun to recur more frequently. After the initial occurrence I took the vehicle immediately to the dealer. They could not replicate the problem and took no corrective action. They did recommend replacing the front brake pads and machining the rotors, which I had them do. Mileage was 44,522 at that time. It is back with the dealer today and the focus seems to be the brake vacuum pump. Of course, the vehicle is now out of warranty so I'm waiting to see if they will perform the repairs at GMC's expense or not. If not, I will likely begin contacting other owners to create a group large enough to initiate a class action lawsuit.

6 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 11/20/2018

Several times I've experienced weak braking a different speeds or while shifting from parking. I also experience the brakes not fully depressing after I step on the brakes. I took my vehicle for a brake inspection thinking I may need new brakes and was told by the inspector that the pads are not the issue, he told me he has never seen an issue similar to what is going on with my truck and instructed me to take it to the dealership. When I contacted the dealership the service advisor told me that it sounds like I just need to replace the brake pads and rotors and told me that he doesn't believe there's an underlying issue based on what I was told at the other service center. Any issues with braking components should be addressed immediately by the manufacturer before people get hurt or someone is killed.

7 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 07/28/2018

My 2014 GMC sierra is having a major brake issue. I replaced the brake pads after being told the padding was low. This did not fix the problem. My truck does not slow down when braking on a hill. I read in another article that the vacuum pump goes out at a low rpm, causing the truck not to stop. Unfortunately, my wife was driving my truck down the driveway, and couldn't stop. This issue almost caused her to hit another vehicle that was passing at the end of the driveway.

8 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2015 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 08/04/2017

At 47,000 miles. I noticed a slight vibration in the front end while braking on the highway. Over the next 2 weeks the vibration became considerable worse. It felt as though the rotors became warped which I have experienced during vehicle testing at previous employments. I replaced the front brake rotors and brake pads. During removal of the old brakes, I quickly noticed that 1 of the 4 pads was completely corroded through the backing plate. Brake pad contact area with the rotor was fine, but the backing plate had holes in it from the level of corrosion. Other 3 brake pads were fine, very minor surface corrosion at worst. Since replacing my brakes the vibration has never repeated.

9 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2008 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 12/20/2010

Brake rotors warped at 15k miles, had them turned under warranty at dealer vehicle was purchased from. At 30k miles rotors warped again, this time 1 brake pad was worn down to 2mm thick, the rest appear almost new in thickness. Dealer turned rotors again and replaced pads for $200. Requested and was denied that the brake work be covered under warranty by dealer and gm cs. I took old brake hardware home with me and still have it. I contend there is something wrong with the design or materials in the brake system of this truck causing premature wear and failure of "non warranty" brake items such as the pads and rotors. I contend that there has been a hanging brake pad causing the rotors to overheat and warp since the vehicle was new and any work performed at the time of the 15k mile rotor turning did not correct the problem. If brake work needs to be performed on this truck every 15k miles there is a reason that should be covered under warranty. One time freak failure I can see, two times evenly spaced at 15k mile intervals and I think something is wrong with the vehicles brakes design and/or materials. Vehicle is daily driver, 15 miles a day to and from work. Garaged during the winter, taken off road (frozen cornfields, dirt field roads) for a week in late fall. Used to tow a fishing boat a few times a year. Owner is a former ase certified mechanic and is not an aggresive user of the brakes. Meaning I brake firmly and evenly when braking is needed, lifting my foot off the pedal once stopped and apply only enough pressure to hold vehicle still.

11 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 03/20/2010

After putting in new brake pads and brake rotors on my 1999 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck, I lost pressure to the brake pedal. After checking for recalls and having more then one certified mechanic try to solve the issue I was told the ehcu ( electro-hydraulic control unit) was not working. The companies told me that it was a common item to go bad on all trucks 1999 and newer. There are no recalls on them and they are a dealership item. The cost of a new one is $1,068. 00. Being that this item is a common problem and the price being so expensive when the vehicle is 10 yrs old, I feel the price of the units should be either recalled or lower in price.

12 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2000 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 03/26/2008

2000 GMC 1500 sierra 47,357 miles had a recall about a year ago. They cleaned and etched front brake lines at the calipers. Today towing a trailer with a car in the I-95 corridor between d. C. And baltimore I had to attempt a quick stop for slow traffic when suddenly I lost all breaking pressure and fortunately ended at the inner grass space barely saving a horrible crush with several cars lined in front of me. My front reservoir was very low, underneath the car at the driver's door level all 4 break lines were badly swollen and corroded, one at least was obviously dripping, and even the frame was corroded and metal chunks were easily knocked. Other sections look very rusty worse than a 65 Ford galaxie am restoring . And this at almost 48,000 miles .

13 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 06/20/2007

Vehicle had less than 20,000 miles when right rear brake disc wore completely out. Had to replace again at 40,000 miles. This only affects the right rear brake. Truck has automatic transmission and parking brake has never been used, and is completely worn out. I know that there is a recall on manual trans mission, but seems there is also a problem on the automatic.

17 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 11/30/2005

Brake system performance is poor. Compared to brake performance when new, vehicle takes too long to stop from any speed above 20 mph. Have replaced all pads, all rotors, and bled brakes twice; no noticeable improvement in performance. This was first noticed at 80,000 miles, vehicle currently has 110,000 miles.

18 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 06/01/2004

General motors is aware of an issue with the parking brakes in some model years of their vehicles and have even issued a recall for them to be fixed. They only recalled vehicles with manual transmissions even though vehicles with automatic transmissions have the same brake parts and suffer from the same issue. The parking brakes engage on their own while the vehicle is in motion which causes damage to the pads and drums to the point where they cease to work. This is an unsafe condition especially when towing a vehicle and having to park on an incline. I have contacted them and they just keep telling me that my specific vehicle was not recalled. My vehicle has the same brakes as those that were recalled and have the same issue. 2002 GMC Sierra 1500. If you look on the recall website you will see the same make and model year recalled with manual transmissions. Again the transmission is not the issue, its the brakes.
