36 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 1996 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 02/14/2005

Brake system operated normally for some time and then at or around 2/14/2005 I begun to experience in all weather conditions at slow speed stopping the abs would engage and over ride the normal braking system causing much longer stopping distances. It caused at least 10 near collisions with the car in front of me, and several times I swerved off the road to avoid contact. To correct the problem, I disabled the abs system by removing the abs fuse, this was suggested by a local tire and repair shop.

38 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 11/06/2004

: the contact stated while driving 35 mph under normal road conditions, the hydraulic braking system failed. The failure occurred intermittently. The abs activated at low speeds. There was no warning prior to the failure. As a result, when applying the brake, the vehicle did not stop and resulted in two rear end collisions. The accidents were reported to the insurance. The vehicle was taken to the service dealer who could not duplicate the problem. The manufacturer was alerted but denied the claim. Updated 10/25/2006 -.

39 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 01/16/2004

2001 GMC k1500 sierra, 52000 miles coming to a stop near 0 mph the abs brakes start pulsating. This causes the truck to stop a few feet further from where you expect. This intermittent problem is more solid when the front wheels are turned (like stopping at an intersection around a bend or, turning into a parking space).

40 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 1996 GMC Sierra 1500

When trying to apply the brakes brake pedal will go to the floor, causing vehicle to have extended stopping distance.

41 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2002 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 11/01/2002

The 2002 was in need of front hubs since they were not replaced when they should have been at the time the front differential was rebuilt. This caused the truck to have excessive front wheel friction, and compromised the braking characteristics of the truck. It was difficult to drive, especially in snow, and the front wheel friction would vary based on changes in speed, road contour, temperature, steering input, throttle input, and brake input. While braking the truck would often pitch severely to one side or the other, the abs would activate on dry pavement. On one occasion the abs activated when my foot was off the brake. The truck would also sway from side to side at highway speed as the friction varied from side to side. When the truck was returned to me once from culligan GMC, the power steering effort had increased greatly. The characteristics of the rear locking differential had been changed. The truck was back to the dealer, david Cadillac, many times for the same concern with the front differential. On one occasion the truck was returned to me gushing gear lube from the front axle, on another it was returned to me with the front differential empty. I was charged for a 4 wheel alignment when only 2 wheels can be aligned on this truck. The wrong oil filter was installed, the truck was driven abusively by a dealer employee (it was run beyond mechanical limits while cold as I stood in the parking lot), and when I called the service adviser after the truck had been in his shop for over a week without my hearing what it's status was, the service person screamed at me on the phone "when it is finished I will call you!!!", and he slammed the phone down.

46 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 1998 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 01/01/2000

Since I have owned this vehicle, the antilock brakes seem to engage for no reason on dry pavement. When this happens, you have the feeling that you will not be able to stop. This started after is was out of warranty so the dealer has not looked at this problem. My son is a GMC certified mechanic, and we have investigated this problem and been unable to determine it's cause. I understand that this is a common problem with this make and model of truck, however I can find no detailed reports on this. Please advise as to whether you are aware of any problems concerning the braking systems on the GMC and it's sister vehicle the chevy. Thanks, steve varley.
