Constant engine issues, cams, lifters. Transmission problems. These engines in these vehicles need to be recalled. I have bought 6 of these trucks and all of them have the same issues. Spending 14k on new engines one after another is ridiculous. These are classified as “work” trucks and can’t handle “working”.

In the past few months this truck has been worked on twice. First was the valve body and now it is the coolant control valve. These things have caused my truck to completely slow down or shut down without warning.

On 9-12-25 I was pulling a utility trailer when I went to back it in the driveway my 2013 GMC 1500 5. 3 stalled . I restarted it only to have a lifter claddering !!!! I checked the oil it was good ! oil pressure was good not over heating . It is just the lifter!!!!!! after doing some investigating I found that this is a common problem with gm's 5. 3 with the afm system!!! companies should be held accountable for fraudulent designs!!! this is not the first time for gm screwing consumers!!! gm had a similar situation back in the 70s and 80s Cadillac!!!! I bought this truck from a gm dealer with 67000 miles only drove it in 1 winter it now has 149900 miles!!!! 5 years !!! change oil and filter every 3000-4000 miles ,use mobile 5w- 30w !!!! I feel a recall should be made to hold gm accountable for what they new was a problem but produced and screwed consumers to make sales !!!!!!!!!!!!! ask any quality repair facility that works on gm's or even auto parts personal. When it stalled it left me in the middle of the road with traffic!!! even if it did start right back up !! clacking!! the cost is unbearable!!!!!!.

I purchased a 2025 GMC denali a few months ago. At approximately 7,000 miles, the front brakes failed unexpectedly and were replaced by the dealership. However, by 14,000 miles, I began experiencing brake issues again. Before I could return the vehicle for service, I was driving on the turnpike when the engine suddenly seized without warning. This created an extremely dangerous situation—vehicles behind me nearly collided as I lost power and control. I managed to pull over safely, but the tow truck operator struggled to load the vehicle due to all four wheels locking up and the engine being completely seized. Once the vehicle was inspected at the dealership, I was informed that the engine had failed and would need to be replaced. I am aware of the recurring issues associated with the 6. 2l GMC engines and related component failures, and I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle. Given the repeated mechanical failures and the serious safety risks involved, I am formally requesting that GMC initiate a buyback of this vehicle. I believe this situation qualifies under lemon law protections and warranty obligations, and I urge GMC to take immediate action to resolve this matter.
To all concerned, I scheduled my vehicle for routine maintenance, but more importantly, I scheduled my check engine light indicator logo to be activated. Following the maintenance and testing of my engine, the dealership informed me that my vehicle passed. For that matter, they put me right back on the road for the check engine light to come on the following morning, and it's still on and off as it pleases. During these very dangerous and extreme manmade and natural disasters GMC seems to think I will have peace of mind because they added an additional 5000 miles to the warranty. What good is that gonna do when for: 1. We arent safe… every scenario you can imagine. 2. Can't travel anywhere in confidence in my vehicle, because they hope I don't breakdown. 3. They gamble with my and other safe driver lives trying to save money. Our vehicles are two-ton vessels capable of creating all kinds of mess. 4. I bet if I don't pay GMC coming for their property so expect the same in return. 5. You can't make this right because my vehicle just tg the dealership two days ago. Please get to the bottom of this a save me the time, aggregation, and hassle of someone trying to convince me I'm fine… well im not. Thank you [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Engine lifters bent a pushrod and scratched my camshaft in my engine causing me to be stranded with minor children. 3rd time since I bought this in 2021 that I have had engine faults in this truck.

Our GMC engine with VIN# above needs to be recalled due to the failed active fuel management (afm) lifter which resulted in misfire’s & engine failure. GMC's defective lifters create a safety concern due to potential engine stalling and power loss while driving, which can lead to dangerous traffic accidents. While gm has implemented extended component coverage for some issues and issued a recall for a related problem with l87 v8 engines, they have not with our GMC sierra with the VIN# listed above, which has the same safety concern. Our GMC is currently at the dealership and we are determining next steps. Thankfully, my husband pulled over on the side of the road and turned the vehicle off before complete power loss. There was not much notification with the engine light prior to the incident. This could have ended very badly with my husband being injured or even worse my three children also being injured.

The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.
Engine misfiring and rough idle with occasional flashing engine light. Dealer said no codes to know what to look for despite replicating issue. Eventually it threw a cylinder 5 misfire and thus gm dealer was able to look further. They found metal in oil pan and concluded a bearing issue and would need to replace engine.

Engine timing chains failed at 71,000 miles requiring a $9,700 repair. Warranty covers 5 yr/ 100k miles and was not fully covered by gm since the vehicle was 9 months beyond 5 years, yet still well within the 100k miles. Issue was diagnosed via p0016-00 being set indicating misalignment between crankshaft position sensor and the intake camshaft position sensor. This issue is a known problem with the early lm2 engines, and the timing chain was upgraded in later lm2 engines. Early adopters of the lm2 are left to pay the price for a defective part.
Coolant control valve failure. Instantly reduces power on truck. National back order on parts. No remedy.
One of the lifters collapsed resulting in catastrophic engine damage.

My truck is under the national recall from GMC for the 6. 2l engine problems. I even received the recall notice from GMC stating this. This truck has been in and out of the shop for engine problems things I took delivery of it in 2022. The latest was in April of 2025 and while it was in the repair service at the dealership, the national recall came out. During that time the dealership tried to tell me the problem was with my exhaust system so I was not covered under the recall. I knew they were not being truthful so I refused to take possession of the truck as I new it had all the symptoms that GMC was describing in my recall notice. My truck sat at the dealership for almost 5 months and last week they force me to take possession of my truck my taking back my "loaner vehicle". They stated "my truck passed the required inspection", which I knew they were being dishonest, but was forced to take the truck back anyway. Three days after taking possession I was on the interstate doing 60 mph and the engine totally seized up and almost caused an accident from the vehicles behind me running into me because of the sudden decrease in speed. I was able to safely pull over and had to get towed back to the dealership. This incident is beyond just a engine recall now because they new my truck was not safe to drive and forced me to take back my truck. Im just thankful I was driving and not my wife, or having my two grandchildren in the truck with me. To make mtters worse in this scenerio, this truck is actually my replacement truck because my 2021 truck had to be taken back per the lemon law in 2022, so this will now be truck #2 being lemon law and my original truck loan isnt even paid off. I have all of the various engine repair paperwork on this truck dating back to 2022.
The engine coolant control valve on my 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 with the lm2 duramax diesel failed. The failed part is still in my truck, which remains at the dealership awaiting replacement. The repair is delayed due to the part being on nationwide backorder, further highlighting that this is a widespread issue. When the valve failed, the truck entered reduced engine power mode while I was traveling on the interstate. This limited my speed to about 40 mph while climbing a hill. The sudden loss of power in high-speed traffic created a serious safety hazard, as it significantly increased my risk of being rear-ended or involved in a collision with faster-moving vehicles. I drove the truck directly to the dealership after the incident, where the problem was immediately confirmed. The issue was diagnosed and confirmed by the dealership, which identified the coolant control valve as the failed component. To my knowledge, gm has not yet inspected this specific failure. Prior to the loss of power, the truck displayed a “reduced engine power” warning message and the check engine light on the dashboard. These warnings appeared at the time of the failure. Importantly, gm has already acknowledged this issue by issuing special coverage n252508341 for 2021 and 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 trucks with the same lm2 engine and the same coolant control valve part numbers. However, the 2020 models (like mine) were excluded from that program despite using the identical part and engine configuration.
I’m filing this safety complaint in addition to a previous complaint, 11678151. Which occurred on August 1, 2025. On Friday, August 22, 2025, I experienced a 2nd traction control alert and engine failure lights on my 2026 sierra denali ultimate truck which again caused the acceleration to drastically decline while driving home from work. Thank god my kids were not in the car with me this time. I am extremely appalled and confused as I've never experienced this level of substandard operation from a new vehicle. I have informed the leadership team team at cavender GMC west san antonio, TX of the situation. The dealerships recommended (2) paths to exit the vehicle: GMC customer assistance and dealership trade-in.
Driving 30 mph on 4 lane city road when engine shut off with many warning lights. Vehicle dead in the road, needed to be towed to dealership where I was informed that the engine had "locked up" they said they have seen many of these 6. 2l engines locked up.
Vehicle: 2020 GMC sierra denali 1500 (VIN: [xxx] ) description of the problem: my 2020 GMC sierra denali has developed serious engine problems that create unsafe driving conditions. On [xxx], I documented loud knocking and clicking noises coming from the engine. The vehicle also shows warning lights and unpredictable performance. Because of these defects: •I cannot safely drive the truck without risk of engine failure while on the road. •the noises and mechanical issues raise concerns about potential loss of power, stalling, or catastrophic engine damage at highway speeds. •no independent mechanic will touch the vehicle because of the complexity and risk of the defect, leaving me stranded. General motors has refused to take responsibility, and the bbb auto line denied my case due to mileage, but the defect itself is unrelated to mileage or normal wear. This is a manufacturer defect that creates a safety hazard for me, my family, and other drivers on the road. What I’m requesting: I am asking NHTSA to investigate this issue with GMC sierra models, as these engine defects make the vehicle unsafe to operate and could lead to accidents if the engine fails while driving. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
On August 17, 2025 while traveling north on the garden state parkway in new jersey, my vehicle suffered a catastrophic engine failure without warning. Fortunately, I was able to get off the roadway without incident. This is the second time this has occurred in the past 4 months. (1st NHTSA complaint 04/18/2025 #11655375) this second engine failure occurred with less than 6000 miles, and only about 3 months of driving. As of this report, the vehicle has not been repaired.
