I have owned 4 of these trucks in my lifetime ranging from 2007-2015 all equipped with the same drivetrain. 5. 3l engine and 6l80 transmissions. All have had the same failures. The engine afm system particularly the lifters fail which in turn destroys the camshaft and destroys the engine. More importantly the transmission torque converter fails sending debris through the whole system causing a sudden loss of drive. This happened while driving down the road and was a safety concern for myself and others. This time it costed me $6500 to replace the transmission. All of the trucks I have owned experianced the same failures how is this not a problem?.

The contact owns a 2018 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving on a neighborhood road at 40 mph, the check engine warning light was flashing with an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine, and the vehicle was vibrating abnormally. The contact pulled over and used a diagnostic scanner to perform a diagnostic test on the vehicle. The scanner retrieved dtc: p0301 (cylinder #1 misfire). The vehicle was towed to a local dealer to be diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the lifters, pushrods, camshaft, sparkplugs, and oil pump were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 111,000.

The contact owned a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the low oil warning light illuminated. After a visual inspection, the contact observed that the engine was abnormally low on oil, though the vehicle had recently been serviced. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who did not provide a specific diagnosis but observed metal shavings inside the oil filter. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling); the VIN was included but the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 16,000.

I have a 2020 Sierra 1500 6. 2 with 86,000 miles. I have only had this truck 6 months. This was inspected before I purchased with no engine issues. Since purchasing we have driven less than 6000 miles. While driving my vehicle the rod in the engine failed and started knocking. I am a mechanic and I am GMC master certified. Both myself and the owner of the shop I work at diagnosed the vehicle with a bad engine. We looked at the recall for the 6. 2 engine and noticed that many of the 2020 vehicles with this engine have the same issue that is currently being recalled for this specific engine. I called GMC and they won’t fix the issue that the vehicle is having. They won’t perform the recall and again I have only had this vehicle for 6 months and with 86,000 miles should not be having this issue. I am GMC certified and told them that I looked into the recall and they them selves state that some of the defective engines got out into the 2020 models.
Check engine light came on for the first time. Engine started knocking, had loss in power, took it to the closest shop. Initial report was lifter failure, after taking apart the engine for lifter replacement they deduced the bad lifters also were accompanied by camshaft damage, and bad heads. Overall resulting in engine replacement being required. Again, first time the check engine light has come on.

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while his wife was driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost motive power, decelerated, and shut off unintendedly. The vehicle was later restarted and driven to the residence before stalling a second time. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the local dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the fuel module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that the part was on back order. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 9,000.

? background: •2021 GMC sierra denali – 6. 2l v8 •VIN included in gm’s engine defect recall (connecting rod/crankshaft) •recall status shows “no current remedy available” •defect acknowledged by gm can cause “engine damage, loss of propulsion, or complete engine failure. ” timeline of events: •~1 month ago – truck began running rough with noticeable ticking/knocking noise. •dealer could not schedule appointment for 3 weeks. •08/08/2025 – dealer inspection confirmed failed lifters and damaged camshaft. •repair estimate: $9,300 (see attached dealer estimate). Connection to recall: •lifter and camshaft are internal engine components dependent on the same lubrication and oiling system as the crankshaft/connecting rods cited in the recall defect. •the defect’s potential to contaminate oil and cause internal engine damage makes this failure consistent with recall-related damage.

To whom this may concern, this GMC truck with the 6. 2 has had constant engine issues regarding the lifters failure causing the engine to destroy itself internally I’ve had to get it repaired every 3 months on average there’s also a class action lawsuit that applies only to the 2025-2020 years however they are the exact same engine in the 2017. The transmission is not in sync with the motor having a late take off or sounds like the gears are grinding between shifting.

The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact was concerned that the failure could occur and that the parts were not yet available. The contact stated there was a lot of pressure and worry about what might happen should the failure occur. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the concerns. The contact had not experienced failure.
Engine failure; according to gm mechanics, the lifters failed and this resulted in a broken push rod. Vehicle is now waiting for a new engine; $8,882. 00 out of pocket from owner, because current recall does not include the 2019 or 2020; only the 2021 and newer of the same enginee, with the same exact failures. Vehicle has under 75,000 miles and has been serviced for oil change and engine maintenance at gm dealership since purchased. Several different mechanics, on with over 40 years of gm engine experience, have evaluated the engine all deeming the same failure. Dealership confirms that there is a 6 to 8 week lead time for the new engine because, quote, "there are so many being replaced for the existing recall". I received no warning from the vehicle systems, no information from the local gm dealership or any other communication that my vehicle was at risk for this failure. I am without a vehicle for likely 2 months and will be 'out of pocket' almost $9,000. 00 when this is done. This is my second sierra denali 1500 in the past 10 years, and my >10th gm vehicle to own, and for the 'premium pick-up truck' on the market, I have always expected the finest quality and service, and this situation changes everything.
The contact owns a 2025 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while at a stop light waiting to make a left turn, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle failed to restart. No warning lights were illuminated prior to the failure. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was towed to the local dealer to be diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the engine had seized. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 21,100.
2018 GMC sierra slt's electric power steering suddenly stopped working, I almost got killed this issue has been reported by other owners.
This recall has been coming for some time now its out and gm still has no plan or action. This is our only auto and my understanding if this issue happens it could cause loss of life. I am concerned for my wife driving to work every day and what happens if we want to take a trip. We need resolution on this. The contact owns a 2020 GMC sierra at4. The contact stated that while on cruise control at 55 mph, the vehicle would independently increase velocity until it reached 98 mph, where it experienced a loss of automotive power. In addition; the contact stated that he attempted to manually power off the vehicle however, the vehicle would not respond to the power button being depressed. No warning lights illuminated. The vehicle restarted and was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed however, no failures were identified. Afterward, upon further notice during rainy weather conditions, water would leak through the rear-view window. The contact stated that the digital screen would occasionally fail to power on as intended or would continuously display a live review image while gear into drive. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, an abnormal sound was heard coming from the transmission, the rpms would not decrease as intended, and would suddenly drop as deaccelerating in speeds. In addition, the contact stated that the headlights, fuel pump, and the main pulley were replaced at the local dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 250.
As part of the engine recall associated with my vehicle I had a repair scheduled at parks GMC in greenville, SC located on laurens rd. When I arrived at the dealership this morning I was told that they had the parts and protocol but could not repair my recall because general motors was at random selecting VIN numbers to determine which ones they would repair. The service advisor (kevin blackston) told me that gm was fixing new vehicles first and that they could not determine when mine would be available for repair. I dont understand how they can schedule me in to perform the repair and then refuse to make the repair stating that there is no solutions when in fact the service advisor explained in detail what would be performed on my vehicle. How can gm allow people to be on the road in an unsafe vehicle yet have the parts on the shelf to make needed repairs. The other issue I have is that this dealership is using this recall to [xxx] clients. A few months back when I went in for an oil change they sent me a text making an offer if I was interested in selling the vehicle. When I went in to get the vehicle appraised they told me that they couldnt offer me the amount in the text message because the recall hadnt been repaired and at best could give me about 9,000 less. Which sounds like they are getting over on people and making a lot more money off of gms mistake. I have been wanting to sell my vehicle and get another vehicle for a few months and I am stuck with this potentially unsafe and unreliable vehicle while the dealership holds on to parts for other vehicles. I need assistance in pusing parks GMC to make the needed repairs. If the engine were to breakdown before the repair is completed I could be out of a vehicle for months. I have 2 children to get back and forth to school and work that has to continue with our without a good vehicle. Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated!!!! also I have already contact gm customer support information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information a.
My daughter and I drove to town to run some errands, we live twenty-three minutes away and take the freeway. Speed limit on that specific section of the freeway (i80) is 80mph. As I was taking the on-ramp to enter traffic, my GMC started shifted very hard and losing power. The vehicle was sputtering and making strange sounds. I was unable to exceed 60mph due to excessive vibrations/shaking the vehicle. Steering was starting to be difficult at the same time I noticed oil pressure gauge slowly dropping on instrument panel below 25psi. I had to pull over immediately. Oil pressure remained lower than normal, verified oil was filled to manufactures specifications (changed June 30, 2025). Returned the vehicle to my place of residence as safe and slow as I possibly could and parked it as it is a major safety concern.

See attached document for complaint. Text from attached document: unacceptable delays in repair: we have contacted 2 local dealerships, both of which have informed us that the necessary parts are unavaila ble and cannot provide a clear time line for when repairs will be completed. Leesburg Buick GMC hummer (country Buick GMC at time of vehicle purchase) joyce koons Buick GMC (service manager: michael nguyen) • poor communication from we have received no follow-up communication from gm regarding the status of the recall or expected resolution. We have contacted gm twice by phone using the number provided in the recall notice. During the first call, we were transferred to a dealer in arizona- despite resid ing in virginia. On our second call, on 8/2, we were informed that our case had been escalated and that we would be contacted within 24-48 hours. As of now, we have not received any return phone call. • ongoing safety concerns: we are unable to drive the vehicle due to the risk of engine failure, which compromises our safety and that of others on the road.
Yates GMC replaced my engine a couple of years ago under warranty and my truck has never been the same. I’ve been to the dealer multiple times. The drive, the way it operates always making cranking snapping sounds.
Accelerating on highway and felt like the engine stalled. Coasted to a stop and the engine would not restart. There was no way to get the truck into neutral so it had to be drug onto a flat bed tow truck.
50000 miles. Getting a p1098 code for a cooling issue. Truck goes into limp mode without warning and will overheat.
On July 31, 2025 while traveling on a highway, the vehicle lost drive power—the gear selector would not remain in drive and reverted to neutral for approximately 10 minutes. This created a serious safety hazard due to sudden loss of propulsion in moving traffic. The event was captured by onstar, which emailed an automated incident alert. I later received a gm safety recall notice concerning potential engine loss of propulsion for vehicles with the 6. 2l l87 engine (NHTSA 25v-274 / gm n252494000/001/002). I presented the vehicle to ewing Buick GMC (plano, TX) on July 23, 2025 for recall service and retrieved it on July 28, 2025. Approximately one week later, during an interstate trip to kansas city, the engine catastrophically failed about one hour from my destination, leaving the vehicle disabled on the roadway shoulder. Roadside assistance towed the truck to briggs auto (KS). Briggs auto diagnosed engine failure and ordered a replacement engine. I was informed the engine is on back-order with no estimated arrival, and the shop is under-staffed, prolonging repairs. The vehicle remains out of service. The sequence—pre-recall loss of propulsion, post-recall service, and then engine failure within a week—shows a serious safety defect that can lead to sudden loss of power at highway speeds, risking a crash. Frequency: loss of propulsion occurred at least twice (March highway incident; subsequent engine failure in early August). Warning lights/messages: [gear refuse tom shift to drive mode. ] injuries/crashes: none, but risk was substantial due to sudden power loss. Dealer involvement: ewing Buick GMC (recall visit); briggs auto (diagnosis/engine order). Attachments/supporting docs: onstar email, recall notice, repair orders, tow documentation, photos/video. Please investigate whether 2024 GMC sierra trucks with the 6. 2l l87 engine continue to pose a loss-of-propulsion risk after recall service and whether parts shortages/back-orders are delaying effective remedy.
The vehicle’s shift control module in the transmission is malfunctioning. The vehicle is shifting hard and having trouble finding the gears. The safety issue is that this is a known GMC transmission malfunction with the risk that the rear wheels can lock up when downshifting in the higher gears. Sudden rear wheels lock up proses a risk to cause an accident on the roadway potentially harming the driver and passengers in the defective vehicle as well as risking other drivers on the road. No warnings were given before the malfunction. The vehicle has been regularly serviced on time and taken care of. The malfunction began and within one week the vehicle progressed to shifting so hard I didn’t feel comfortable driving it especially with my child in tow.
Radiator cracked along outer edges. Similar to previous TSB’s as released by gm, but my vehicle doesn’t fall under the years covered by that TSB.
I receivd a recall on my 2021 GMC denali 1500 , 6. 2 engine recall # n252494000. Made an appointment with carroll GMC, at 1455s. Tamiami trail, venice , FL, on 7/29/25 at 11am. I showed up for my appointment and they denied checking my truck on the recall stating they did not have the remedy to fix the problem so therefore they were not going to check my truck for the recall. . . . . . I have a trip coming up and now I a afraid to go on the highway in case my truck loses power and I get in an accident. . . . . . . . . . . . My truck should have been checked for the recall regardless of the remedy to fix it. . So at least I know weather it is safe to drive or not.
I have 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 6. 2l engine I have maintain my service on this vehicle and now facing a complete engine failure due to the poor design of the engine by GMC. I have spoken with alot people and dealer mechnics and they all agree GMC and chvrolet know that this is a bad design but refuse to acept responsiblity for it. There are tousands of people with this same issue we cant fight this on our own we need your help please.
The contact owns a 2024 GMC sierra. The contact became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that parts were not yet available for the recall repair. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
I own a 2021 GMC denali with a 6. 2l v8 l87 engine and 45,500 miles. I have confirmed the presence of metal shavings in the oil and oil filter, indicating that the engine is beginning to fail. When I took the vehicle to my local dealership, I was informed that there is currently no fix for this issue and was advised to continue driving the vehicle. This poses a serious safety risk—not just to me and my family but also to others on the road. A sudden loss of power could lead to a dangerous accident, and I do not want to be responsible for something preventable that could harm innocent people. My concern is that gm is aware of this engine issue but has instructed me to keep driving the vehicle, despite the known defect. How can gm be allowed to avoid accountability for such a critical safety matter? if a fatal accident were to occur, would the responsibility fall on gm or the NHTSA for failing to act? it’s also troubling that gm continues to profit by selling new vehicles, including the 2025 models, with similar issues, all while neglecting to provide solutions for affected customers like me. I purchased this $80,000 truck in good faith, but now no dealer wants to trade or buy these trucks without me taking a significant financial loss—something gm should be responsible for. As a taxpayer, I find it unacceptable that we bailed out gm in the mid-2000s, yet they continue to disregard accountability for their actions. I urge the NHTSA to take this issue seriously. A specific deadline should be set for gm to resolve this issue, and they should face daily penalties for every day they fail to provide a fix. If no resolution is possible, full refunds should be mandated. Please address this issue promptly, as it affects real people’s safety and financial well-being every day.
The contact owns a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled, lost motive power, with smoke coming from the engine compartment. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact attempted to start the vehicle and noticed a knocking sound coming from the engine with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling). The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that parts were not yet available. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle had a salvage title and would not be repaired under the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The coolant control valve (part # 24001355) has failed. Apparently this is the case with many vehicles and gm will not/can not get replacement parts. This should be a recall.
While traveling on the freeway at freeway speeds and with the cruise control on, on 7/22/2025, my vehicle abruptly start making an odd noise, the steering wheel started to vibrate / move as if I had a flat tire. I safely existed the freeway and pulled over to investigate, there was no flat tire yet the vehicle still made the noise and experienced issues when the throttle was applied. I proceeded to call a tow truck, and have the vehicle towed from alpine, CA to temecula and temecula valley GMC. While there the dealership gave me an initial diagnosis of "miss fire in cylinder 8". We left the vehicle, and awaited more information. The next day I received a phone call stating that they needed to do an engine teardown to completely diagnose the issue, to the tune of approx. $1,500. In the dealers words, they needed to do the teardown to determine if "they could salvage the engine, or if it had to be condemned". The following day I received another call stating that the engine needed to be completely replaced due to a collapsed cylinder. The estimate for this work is over $13,000. The truck is 6 years old with 58,xxx miles.
Wn a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 6. 2l (VIN: [xxx] ), which is now experiencing a severe misfire, engine ticking, and diagnostic code p318a. I’ve confirmed this issue is related to gm recall n252494001 for engine connecting rod/crankshaft failure. However, I’ve been told my VIN has not yet been activated for recall repairs, and both the local dealership and GMC support have refused to escalate my case or offer assistance. This is a known safety issue, and I’m now at risk of total engine failure and significant financial loss while waiting for gm to act. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
When I started my truck in the morning I noticed the check engine light came on and my engine fan started running really loudly. I shut my truck off and let it sit for 5 minutes and restarted it in hopes the check engine light would not appear. Unfortunately it did come back on and the engine fan began running really loudly again. I drove the truck to the nearest mechanic and you could feel the truck was trying to counter the problem by forcing me to drive it in a lower speed. After taking it to a shop to get it scanned to see what the code was. The mechanic said it was reading code p1006 three times. He said this coolant system and is why my engine fan was triggered to run really loudly. But the engine was not over heating as all other indicators showed that temps were normal. The mechanic believes it could possibly just be a faulty wire. However after talking to gm he said if it is this coolant part that needs to be replaced, it could take up to months to fix as the part is on national backorder. Doing more research, it appears others have had this same problem and gm even knew shortly after this model was released that this would happen.
The contact owns a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that there was an abnormal change with the rpm. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The dealer received an email from the manufacturer, but the verbiage was incorrect to move forward with the repair. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 39,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
On 7/17/25 vehicle was taken to star Buick/GMC in easton PA for rear brakes and an oil change. This vehicle has 49,981 miles on it. I was told after the oil change the tech took the truck for a test drive. I was told he made it about 20 feet and the engine seized. Either the tech forgot to refill the crank case or it is another gm 6. 2 disaster. Please advise as the dealer is quoting over 12k to replace engine.
