Within 3 months (<4000 miles) from purchase vehicle began sputtering with hesitation, and ticking noise from engine while in motion followed by multiple alerts posting on driver display. Vehicle displays loss of power, and struggles to keep up with traffic. Check engine light flashing followed by constantly staying on, service esc system activated, service parking brake, and steering assist reduced drive with caution lights all activated during this episode. Dealer worked on vehicle engine ( and completed on or around 1/08/2021), and replaced lifters, and oil control valve. On 01/13/2021 noticed that vehicles lane keep assist is now working sporadically, will not activate consistently when vehicle veers off the properly marked lanes on high-way/roads, and inconsistently alerts driver while in motion. The lane keep assist is suppose to correct steering, but this does not happen consistently. The collision alert system does not activate or work correctly. Noticed while driving that vehicles in front are not detected correctly, and informs the driver they are within safe distance (green this suddenly changes to yellow). In addition when vehicles in front apply brake, the collision alert system does not alert as it is supposed to, it stays in green even at extremely close range. Safety mechanisms don't appear to work correctly, and detects items that are not present. Noticed that vehicle detects lanes even on unmarked roads, and the front pedestrian alert system activates sporadically even if no pedestrians are in front of vehicle while driving. Concerned about safety features leading to hazardous driving conditions.

When I first got the truck the brakes operated perfectly fine after about three days the brakes on the front of the truck would lock up while I was driving and would not release. After two sets of calipers two sets of brake pads a set of rotors a two weeks go by with the mechanic trying to figure out what is wrong with this truck. They then replace the brake master cylinder, there was no improvement. Turns out to be the brake booster had failed along with the hydraulic abs control unit. There were no warning lights on whatsoever the whole entire time the brakes were locked up the abs light didn't come on until the brake booster was replaced indicating that the abs control unit was also bad. Now I am experiencing a ticking coming from the engine. The ticking occurs at idle end as the throttle is being activated. However the local dealership has refused to give me any information as of why it could be making this ticking noise or is just unwilling to say anything .

1. The transmission shifts extremely rough from 1st to 2nd gear in parking lots at a slow speed and on normal highway or street driving and experiences the same thing while slowing down to stop 2. The engine has recently been having a awkward shake to it while in ideal after it has been running and warm 3. While backing up and turning the wheel, the front suspension will let out a loud clunk sound and the sound will return when turning the wheels back forward after putting it into drive.

Active fuel management failure number 4 cylinder. P0304 dtc. Has a loud ticking noise and a miss on number 4 cylinder. The truck has been maintained and as I researched the problem, it appears to be more likely than not to affect these trucks.

On 26mar2017 I noticed a ticking noise coming from my vehicle. I took it to the dealership 27mar2017 and was told that I needed a new flywheel. I wanted a second opinion because I have never heard of a flywheel going bad in my life. After speaking with a few mechanics we all agreed that it was not the flywheel. On 4apr I took my vehicle to another dealer who confirmed that the ticking was the flywheel. The flywheel had to have been defective at time of manufacturing. It just cracked for no good reason other than it was poorly made. 2012 GMC Sierra 1500 flywheel just cracked out of nowhere endangering the lives of an entire family and who knows who else if it had shattered. The vehicle was ticking after a morning start while sitting idle.

I bought this truck new in 4/2106 and there is a clicking sound when engine is running. Is this normal?.
Ticking noise began once the vehicle reached ~100,000 miles. Initially, the ticking only occurred once the engine was started. As time went on, the ticking became more frequent, to include upon engine start and while the vehicle was under load/accelerating. At approximately 108,000 miles, the tick became constant while the engine is running. GMC dealer diagnosed the problem as a failed lifter, which, apparently, has been a common problem in gm 5. 3l engines. A vehicle should not need a new engine, or even new lifters for that matter, at 100,000 miles. This is a known issue, with many consumers reporting it and gm acknowledging it. Vehicles with these engines should have been recalled years ago.

Since purchasing my 2002 sierra pickup with a 5. 3l v-8 I have noticed a ticking sound when you first start up the vehicle. Worse when it is cold out. After a few minutes it stops. I have had the dealer look at it in the past and they didn't seem too concerned with it and or said no noise was found. I called GMC and they issued me an extended warranty for 5 years or 100,000 miles. With approximately 68,000 miles on the truck now the noise is getting worse and is quite loud when you start it up in the morning. It also takes longer to disappear now. When you start to drive it, it is quite loud and you wonder if it is doing damage. It sounds like a hydraulic lifter not getting oil. After it warms up in a few minutes in disappears.
