My 2019 2500hd (49,00 miles) truck had water leaking in through the roof. The dealership found that the leak was caused by a bad factory tack weld on the passenger side roof seam. Due to this bad tack welkd, it caused water to leak down the a-piller, down into my electrical fuse box and wiring.

On December 14, 2020 my sierra with 2339 miles displayed, at startup, the power steering was out, to drive with care. Also displayed service esc and traction control failures. I drove with much difficulty, without power steering, ten miles to the nearest GMC dealership, lafontaine in highland, mi. I picked up the vehicle on December 29, 2020 with an additional 60 miles. The service personnel said they were unable to duplicate the problem, therefore no repairs were made. Lafontaine had contacted general motors tech center who offered no solutions other than checking the battery and wiring harness connections. The problem has not reappeared in the fifteen days since I picked up my vehicle.

The dashboard has cracked in several places, and I believe, it is going to effect the air bag system and dashboard wiring, which could lead to the passenger air bag not deploying or engine stalling at speed because of pieces of dash falling into the wires.

My truck was parked at a business. I started the truck after being inside for about 10 minutes and started to smell an electrical burn/shortening. I turned the truck off, told my wife to get out and I popped the hood. By the time she walked to the back and me to the front, the rear window behind the driver shattered, sending glass inside and outside the vehicle. After opening the doors for a few minutes, the smell was gone, since I work with electronics for work, is normal for the smell. I think it was defroster and/or the sliding rear window wiring. This happened on 12/03/2019. I had escalated this up general motors customer relations and after level 2 was told it was not their issue, even after I referenced the canadian recall for this very issue. The truck, per my service writer todd, has since been recalled but I cannot find anything anywhere. My truck is still at the dealer, woody Buick GMC, naperville, IL and has not been repaired. That's also why I can't send a photo.

The bulbs in the tail lights corrode in place due to excess road grime (salt, sand, etc. ) being splashed up on them. This causes them to burn out prematurely and removal is impossible due to the corrosion of the bulb into the socket. This results in having to replace the entire wiring harness. According to my local GMC dealership (west herr), this is a common problem that gm isn't covering. So, I had to pay for a new wiring harness out of pocket in order to replace one of the tail light bulbs.

Persistent burning of headlight bulbs. Numerous headlight bulb changes, wiring changed, housing changed, and light continues to burn out. Numerous owners of this year and model reporting the same occurrence. Very time consuming, costly, and irritating especially when cops become involved and hand out tickets.

I have had to replace the tail light lenses several times because the tab that secures the lenses to the vehicle breaks and the result is lights just hanging on the truck by the electrical cords. I have the same problem involving my other vehicles in the past made by GMC namely a second family GMC sierra that was made in the year 2004, and a Chevrolet silverado. The electrical lighting on the dashboard has been malfunctioning for a long time. I noticed the malfunction during the first year I bought the truck. I have had to replace electrical switch in the air conditioning/heating the mechanic told me that the wiring is heating up and causing the short to the switch. The new switch has shorted out just like he said it would. I have a notification that my airbag needs servicing. There has been no accident involved to cause this issue. I bought this vehicle new and have been the primary driver since 2006 when I bought the vehicle.

My fan high speed durst out and I had a strong else trial burning smell. I had my truck looked at to find that my wiring harness and resistor had burnt. I had them replaced this last September. Since then I have had to replace two more resistors and one more wiring harness. I talked to two dealerships and no one told me about the, "special warranty adjustment". I had to research the internet to find this out. When I took my truck back to the original dealer, they blamed me for not knowing the language. I am glad I did not burn my truck up like several other had (found on the internet). Now the dealer tells me that main controller has failed and I have to pay over $400 in repairs. How do I know that the main controller did not burn out the resistor or wiring harness? I am concerned that large corporations are playing with our lives.
The contact owns a 2009 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to dealer to have a diagnostic performed. The contact was advised that the wiring harness assembly was rubbing against the driveshaft, causing the wires to become loose and the vehicle to stall. The dealer changed the wiring harness location and replaced the damaged wires. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 83,000.

2006 GMC sierra c1500. Consumer writes in regards to resistor and connector wiring replacement.
Blower motor wiring harness wires melted and started smoking on my 2006 GMC sierra.
The blower motor resistor overheated and melted the wiring harness, almost caused a fire, burnt my fingers trying to stop it from starting to burn,my 7 year old was with me.
Loss of fan - blower motor (hvac) high speed operation failure. With loss of high speed fan, other fan speeds (lower) operation became intermittent, works after jiggling blower motor wire bundle at connection point on blower motor resistor. Visual inspection shows melted wire harness connector at blower motor resistor, unable to separate (remove) the connector. Searched NHTSA odi database and found three very related defect complaints - inop fan, smoke and melted wires, fan loss. Fan failure could lead to fire from melted electrical connections, loss of visibility due to windshield icing in winter, fogging over when driving in changing weather. Windshield defroster requires operative fan and defroster is a required safety item. Dealer replaced blower motor electrical connector, wire harness, and fuse, charging parts to warranty and me for the labor. This appears to be a very common defect in this product line. There is a technical service bulletin for the repair including replacement of the connection wiring to insure any melted insulation is removed. This should be a safety recall. Dealer has old parts.
The connector that plugs into the blower motor under the glove box became too hot and melted the plastic resulting in the a/c and heat not to work (this includes the windshield defroster). I've been looking up problems and solutions and found that this is a recurring problem with GMC and chevy trucks yet there has not been any recall, in fact the dealerships have an extremely overpriced kit to fix their faulty wiring. About 66,000 mi.

Wiring harness between fan switch and fan motor get very hot at the connection and melts the connection.
The contact owns a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500. While driving approximately 55 mph, smoke began to engulf the vehicle. Upon further inspection, the contact noticed that the wiring melted on the instrument panel from an unknown cause. The dealer stated that the wiring harness and resistor for the blower motor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer stated that because the vehicle exceeded its warranty, they would not assume financial responsibility for the repair. The failure and current mileages were 40,000.

This complaint is about an electrical short in the wiring and plug going to the fan motor on the inside cab of my 2006 GMC truck. This truck has 43000 miles on it and carried it in to be fixed and was told nothing could be done because it was out of warranty. I'm very disappointed because I feel that this is a hazard. This plug has been going bad for some time now because I could smell the odor in the truck but could not pinpoint where it was coming from. After the fan motor stopped working I traced the problem down to the plug and found where it had been melting away. This is when I drove it back to the dealership and was told nothing could be done because it was out of warranty. I feel this should be a defect and not something that should be a warranty issue. This plug got very hot for a long period of time and melted it could have started a fire.
The contact owns a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500. While driving 30-35 mph, the air bags on the ceiling of the vehicle deployed without an impact. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for repair. The failure and current mileages were 26,146. Updated 11/24/08 the vehicle had an exhaust leak, the drivers side window was inoperative, the window switch and connector had melted, the heater seats didnot work, the rear tires were out of balance. Updated 11/26/08.
Truck is now 6 years old, just over 70,000 miles. 3 to 4 years ago (maybe more) the #5 speed on the air system blower stopped working. Perhaps last summer or fall, I checked the fuses: all good. I finally found the wiring harness plug to the fan and found the #5 line had melted insulation and the surface of the contact prongs blackened. I sanded them and reinstalled the plug. All speeds worked, for a while, but soon became intermittent. Then all speeds stopped working totally. At last, I remembered that I still had an extended warranty with mastertech, checked it and was able to get the harness replaced under the warranty. The workman who did the repair said that this item was a common problem with the 2005 sierra. While I do now have a working fan control, I am afraid to use the #5 fan speed.
The contact owns a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500. While driving 65 mph, the fan stopped blowing without warning. The sensor resistor was replaced several times. The dealer stated that the harness needed to be replaced at the cost of $500. The manufacturer stated that they were aware of the failure. There were no recalls available, therefore, the manufacturer was unable to provide assistance. The current mileage was 191,360 and failure mileage was 189,000. Updated 12-12-07. Updated.

Truck will not start. Not hearing the electic fuel pump in gas tank. Truck towed for repairs. During fuel pump replacement. Noticed the connector inside the gas tank arced and burned with 2 inches of insulation burned off the wires supplying power to the fuel pump. 1997 GMC truck. I guess this connector that mates through the tank has had a history of arcing burning here. Also the connector defect isnt easily noticable to the technician. Causing intermittent fuel pump failure as in my case. Has there been any history of fire/exposion with these connectors on gm vehicles. This I feel is a serious defect. This truck has been probably driven for some time with this defect and it is a known issue to many technicians. . Read more...
