1 Battery Cable problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 05/09/2021

On several occasions spanning multiple years the truck loses power while braking and turning at slow speeds. On more rare occasions, but still numerous, the same problem occurs when braking at higher speeds without turning. The truck dash lights, media screen and headlights all dim or flicker as a ticking or popping noise is heard behind the dash much like an arching electrical wire. Most of the time when these scenarios happen the display on the drivers display screen reads stabiltrak warning. Also when the problem occurs while turning and braking at low speeds the truck will completely lose power and power steering as well as assisted braking. Once the truck comes to a stop the ignition, and all electrical systems are completely unresponsive like the battery is dead. In order to start the truck again, I have to get out of the truck, open the engine hood and oscillate both the negative and positive battery cables. Most of the time the truck will start up after doing this. Sometimes I have to use booster cables to get it to start. Neither the cables or the terminal connectors are loose as they have been inspected by a dealer service tech and a local mechanic.

6 Battery Cable problem of the 2009 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 04/20/2018

I purchased my truck about 1 year ago and it had 32,00 miles on it, it now has 40,000 miles. Everything was fine with it until about mid-April. I was driving to kalamazoo to see my daughter on I-94 around 72 mph with the cruise control on. I turned on my left turn signal to change lanes to pass the person in front of me and to my dismay my speed dropped drastically as the cruise control disengaged. This happened several times on the way to kalamazoo that day. It also got worse on this trip, sometimes the door locks would lock and unlock, all of the lights on the dashboard turned on and off and every time anything happened the speed dropped, which to me is a safety hazard and should be part of a recall. When I got home the next day, I called levalley GMC to take a look at my truck (where it's been serviced since purchase). When I explained the situation to them, they claimed they never heard of it. That's strange because if this situation is googled, there is a lot of information about what could be wrong. Lo and behold a day and a half later my truck was fixed at a cost of $1069. 71 for diagnosis and 3 cables, all positive and negative battery cables. I consider this situation a serious safety issue. I sent a letter to gm customer service. Lou contacted me and left a voice mail with case number 8-4206988703 (6/4/18). I called customer service and spoke with toni also 6/4/18. Toni reviewed the case and asked what I was requesting. I told her that this is a very serious safety matter that should be addressed and I would like to be compensated somehow. Toni stated that there is no recall for this situation and there is nothing that she can do. I told her maybe there should be a recall and I again stated that this is a serious safety issue.

7 Battery Cable problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 12/13/2017

Several times while driving and making turns the vehicle completely died and all electronics went black. This caused a complete loss of steering and control while turning across traffic. The steering wheel would shake and jerk in the opposite direction as well. Once I came to a stop I would have to put it back in park and restart. I am very lucky that that there was no cross traffic in these moments, as this could have led to a major accident. The really frustrating part is that after I took it to the dealer they diagnosed and stated that it was a battery cable of some sort that was melting over the exhaust. This was published as a known problem within the company. However, not a recall or warranty (47,000 miles). How can a known design problem on a relatively new vehicle that causes a complete loss of control while driving not be a recall or safety violation of some sort? I hope this does not fall on deaf ears. Thank you.

8 Battery Cable problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 09/21/2017

In the past 4 months, beginning at about 52k miles, I started receiving messages on my truck that said "stability control" was out and it locks the front left wheel, losing all steering, the radio and then the truck goes completely dead. The ac goes on/off and the headlights flicker. This is always at low speeds between 5-10 mph and most commonly when making a turn. I had the battery replaced at the dealership and now they're telling me I need a negative battery cable replacement?.
