[xxx]: after arriving home and parking in my driveway (plugged in the block heater that came installed from the factory), approximately 35 minutes later my neighbor rang the doorbell. She was yelling that my truck was on fire! the flames were starting to hit my eaves on my house. I put the fire out with my hose. The sparks fire department had to pry open my hood to disconnect the batteries in order to stop the truck from lighting back on fire. The vehicle has been inspected by general motors and turned over to their insurance. My insurance has also inspected the vehicle and stated they believe that the wiring to the block heater was faulty. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem. This truck has 19,000 miles and is 1. 5 years old (2022). How could this be turned over to gm's insurance and not under warranty? I have not had my truck for over 2 months now. I wonder how many of these trucks are lighting on fire? the truck is currently at the local dealership and is available for inspection. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 2500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost motive power. The coolant fan seized and failed to operate as needed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the check engine warning light was illuminated, and the knock sensor, coolant fan clutch, injector #6, and unstated wiring harness needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the parts to repair the vehicle were on back order. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case, but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000.

Transmission control module I was at an intersection when the tcm malfunctioned halfway through and I lost all power to my motor. I was pulling a large trailer and cross traffic had to slam on brakes to keep from hitting me. My truck will not move faster that a few miles an hour now that it is in limp mode. I am a police officer and I had an onboard diagnostic tool that showed that there was no communication to the tcm. Stabilitrack warning lamp and check engine light are now on. It all happened at once no warning.

When the car is on and in park, there is a button on the front console that drops the tail gate. The truck gives you no indication that the button has been pressed or that the tailgate is open. You can then drive the truck with the tailgate open and have no indication or idea. As a result, it is easy to lose gear out of the truck bed while you are driving. This button is located just above a storage compartment and is easy to press while placing items in this compartment. This is a major safety hazard on the road. There is no option to disable this button or be alerted when you tailgate is open.

[xxx] has a trailer brake control module issue that causes the trailer brake to periodically disengage and reengage. Unfortunately, I had to drive across the country on a military pcs move with this intermittent failure. GMC has provided numerous surveys to ask about my experience with my new GMC. Overall, the vehicle adequate, and in each survey I have annotated this issue. However, it does not appear the issue is being taken seriously as I have not seen a recall. A trailer brake that intermittently fails is extremely dangerous. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Backing out of driveway, suddenly lost the transmission. I was stranded at about a 45-degree angle into the traffic lane. I had no gear position indication (an automatic) and couldn't move the truck under it's own power. Shut it off and restarted twice before I got it into "limp-mode" and, while abrupt and harsh, managed to get back into my driveway. Found fault code u0101, lost communication with tcm (transmission control module). Had never heard that this has become a common problem. Discovered quickly gm has no parts available, no repairs available, and that it is happening to thousands of gm trucks from model years 2008 to 2015. The truck is useless without this module function. We use this truck to tow a 12000+ lb. Travel trailer. I can't imagine how bad this could have been in freeway traffic with such a load. Have been told gm put the part on a national back order in October of 2022, with no estimate of availability. It's now late August of 2023 and still nothing available. Has me concerned that one of these vehicles could stall right in front of me in traffic! I can't afford to replace this vehicle, can't move it, and am relegated to going to work on a motorcycle- in traffic with other gm trucks just waiting to experience this failure. And winter is coming. . .

While braking ( after being on the highway) all dash gauges turn black, radio shuts off, ac shuts off. Service stabilitrak light comes on when dash flashes back on. While driving ac turns off, radio turns off same stabilitrak warning flashes, speedometer turns off. Power steer control went out while trying to turn. Truck put itself in 4 wheel drive when I turned on the trailer assist. Parking assist periodically turns itself off.

Defective trailer brake switch ,which poses a risk to motor vehicle safety if you are towing a travel trailer, where brakes fail lock up is possible dangerous to pull.
When attached to a trailer with solar panels, the truck will intermittently disconnect the trailer electronics which disables the trailer brakes and trailer lights. This is because the solar energy is back flowing to the truck via 7 pin connector and overloading the circuit. Having a truck disable the trailer brakes and lights intermittently is very dangerous. Earlier model years of this truck do not suffer this issue. Gm is aware and has TSB but no solution has been found on the truck side without disabling the solar panels on the trailer.
The integrated trailer brake controller does not work on this truck. Specifically, the part is the trailer brake computer module. Trailer brakes went out immediately and continue to disconnect at all times. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed independently. GMC has looked at the problem at dealer and stated they do not currently have a solution. Problem appeared immediately and has continued every single time a trailer is connected to the truck.
The column shifter that is installed on all 2024 GMC Sierra 2500hds and 3500hds poses a potential safety risk to its passengers and other drivers on the road. When the column shifter of the vehicle is in the standard drive position the shifter covers part of the screen and the direct path to the radio volume control dial and infotainment home button. It has been found and replicated that attempting to interact with the infotainment screen ui and the home button/volume control dial the driver may easily accidentally bump the shifter into the neutral position. Bumping this 8000lbs+ vehicle into neutral unintentionally can be extremely dangerous to its passengers and fellow motorists especially when hauling a heavy trailer or load like heavy-duty pickup trucks are designed to do. Bumping the truck into neutral can allow the truck to lose its acceleration capabilities and degrade braking capabilities as the engine would be disconnected from the drive wheels, limiting engine braking and exhaust braking. This kind of braking is commonly used to help stop the truck with heavy trailers and loads. This problem has been commonly referred to in multiple facebook groups relating to the 2024 GMC heavy duty truck. I personally have not had it inspected by any third party as there is not much they can do to remedy the issue. I personally recommend that general motors redesign the column shifter in these trucks shortening it to come no further than the diameter of the steering wheel eliminating any interference with the infotainment system and the home button/volume dial. Gm shall replace this updated shifter free of charge in all trucks just recently built. For gm's sake, it is important that this issue is remedied ASAP as the truck just began production and there is a limited amount on the road. This is available for inspection upon request.
Failed transmission control module (24256861). While driving in the early morning hours (darkness) taking my child to school, I was navigating through a busy intersection when the vehicle surged and then made a loud metal on metal sound, feeling as if someone had struck me from behind. At that point the power train became inoperable, stranding us and coming very close to being first, struck from behind and then from cross traffic. The vehicle was/has been inspected by a gm technician at starling Chevrolet, st cloud, FL and the tcm was found to have failed (trouble code u0101, lost communication with tcm). It has been at the dealership for going on four months awaiting the production of a replacement part(tcm). There was no prior indication that the tcm was about to fail. Upon failure, all lights on the vehicle display flashed and the indicator for the vehicle drive position was lost (p, r, n, d), no longer visible.

The high beams quite working.
Driving on the expressway around 60 mph when the truck went into limp mode slowing me down to 40 and then would not shift gears tcm went out gm told me that there is a big problem.
I remote started my truck yesterday morning to get it warmed up before loading my family. They all then got into the truck, my 5 year old and 8 year old in the back seat in booster seats. I threw in some more bags into the back of the truck and started to climb into the truck. As I did that my kids were starting to get nervous and my wife was pointing and stating that the rear window slider was smoking. I put the key into the ignition and turned the key on. Upon doing that the smoke stopped but a few seconds later there was a loud bang, similar to a gun shot, and the rear passenger side window shattered. My 8 year old had glass hit her and my 5 year old was hysterical. Needless to say, the 5 hour drive home was not much fun for anyone after that occured.

I am receiving an on-and-off “service trailer brake system” when towing and sometimes when not towing. Checked every component and alert does not stop. When this happens while I’m towing, trailer brakes stop working momentarily.
I have a 2018 GMC sierra duramax quad-cab and when it is connected to either my boat, stock trailer, or cargo trailer the lights and electric trailer brakes on the trailers do not work. And the chime from the "service trailer brake" indicator sounds and doesn't stop until I unplug my trailer harness from my truck making it a distraction and an unsafe situation when trying to navigate through traffic(changing lanes, stopping, and other functions needed when hauling trailers). The dealership said it was a module and specified which one and so I elected to replace it myself and it wasn't the issue. I choose to do the work myself as they quoted me a price of $700. 00+ to repair the problem.
2016 GMC sierra shark fin antenna gets water under and destroys onstar, navigation, and compass operation. This is recalled in 2015 but does not include 2016 that have the exact same problem.
Bought the truck brand new. Within a week the service trailer brake warning light came on. Has been to the dealership 3 times and they still cant fix it. This affects towing of the trailer with no trailer brakes.

Water intrusion from antenna ran down into my wires causing corrosion in my electrical harness. Truck will throw code p2138 and go into reduced power mode. Very dangerous when you are in traffic. Truck will not go over 15mph when this happens. This has been a problem intermittently since I have owned the truck at 119000 miles . Gotten progressively worse.

I was driving down the road after turning on the rear window defrost. The cab of the truck filled with smoke billowing from the back seat. I pulled over and turned the truck off. I got into the back seat to try to identify what was on fire, and noticed the lines of the rear window defrost system were actually smoldering. Then one of the rear windshield panels exploded in my face. Upon reading online, it looks like a recall was issued for this same problem in canada but not the USA.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 2500. The contact stated while her husband was driving approximately 75-80 mph, and the contact was in the front passenger's side seat, the vehicle lost motive power, and the infotainment system and instrument panel turned off unexpectedly. The contact's husband pressed the push to start button, and the vehicle was able to be restarted. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that while driving 70-75 mph on one occasion, the vehicle shut off unintendedly. The contact exited the highway and pulled into a gas station. The contact stated that upon pressing the push to start button, the vehicle restarted as needed. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving on a third occasion; however, the vehicle was able to restart independently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times, but the dealer informed the contact that the failure could not be duplicated. The contact stated that the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where the battery was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that no assistance could be provided because the vehicle was not covered under warranty. The manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer while the failure was occurring; however, the contact stated that the failure was occurring intermittently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000.
Water leak, known in other years of the same model vehicle, caused the rear defrost to fail and smoke when in operation nearly causing a fire in the vehicle as it was being operated.
Service trailer brake system warning from time to time, this warning goes off in the vehicle and when it does, it does it constantly. When the warning is dismissed, it does it again seconds later. If it is not dismissed, it does it again seconds later. It is a persistent three ding double chiming that is not only constant, the vehicle is doing it without a trailer connected to it. The gm dealerships we have been to regarding this issue do not know how to fix it since the warning is as intermittent as it is persistent. Once one of the dealerships was finally able to observe the warning themselves, we were told because it does not cause the check engine light to come on, they are not given a code, therefore, they do not know how to address the issue. The service engine brake system warning is not only a persistent auditory nuisance. The warning chime overrides any other audio capability of the vehicle and it will be the only thing the control panel shows. If the warning is dismissed, it comes right back. This means we cannot hear anything else in the vehicle, such as turn signals, and we cannot see anything else on the control panel, such as speed. We can only surmise this issue is some sort of an electrical system malfunction since we do not have a trailer connected to the vehicle when the service trailer brake system warning is coming on. The vehicle has been presenting this persistent warning since we purchased it from a dealership in August of 2022 and the vehicle continues to present this persistent warning intermittently, which will last days to weeks at a time and is not corrected by the engine being turned off and restarted, no matter if the engine is shut off for minutes or days. How much time passes between the persistent service engine brake system warning events can be less than one day to several months later.
Brand new vehicle and keeps draining batteries. Can hear the starter engage but won’t turn the engine. Has happened twice.
We were at a restaurant with friends we got back into the vehicle. I started up the vehicle and several electrical things happened. The service trailer brakes message came up, then the service power steering message came on. The engine was running but the tachometer didn’t work, or the oil pressure gauge. A couple other warning lights on the dash were on and stayed on. When I put it in reverse it wouldn’t move. When I put it in drive it would move forward. So we were stuck in our parking spot. We decided to put it in neutral and two of us pushed the truck out of the space into a busy street in hopes of getting home. Luckily none of us or the truck was hit by the people driving on the roadway. I put the transmission in drive and it would go into gear but not not shift out of first gear. The speedometer was not working either. We drove a few 100 feet in hopes that it would shift into a higher gear and it would not. We were able to find a safe place to pull off the highway and parked it. Turned the truck off, waited several minutes and tried it again. Still the same so we were stranded there. Left it there and called an uber driver to come out and pick us all up. I called for a towing service to pick the truck up the next morning. When I arrived the following morning to meet the tow truck I got in and started it up. Other than the check engine light being on the truck seemed fine. I still had it towed to the dealership to be on the safe side. It was there 6 days and today I picked it up. They couldn’t find anything wrong. In the description of service and parts it states “scanned found long list of codes, most of codes are lost communication with engine control module, followed some TSB for possible issues, no results”. Also, “cleared codes and test drove vehicle, have not been able to duplicate concern at this time”. So I now have a vehicle that I can’t trust and hope our safety will not be in jeopardy in the future.

There is an issue that is causing the batteries to die. This in return causes the vehicle to go into limp home mode with no warning. The "issue" was supposed to be resolved by the dealer in March 2022. The resolution was that one battery was bad. The vehicle is equipped with two batteries. Each of which is sufficient to run the vehicle. A single battery failure should not have caused the truck to have a power limitation. Furthermore the issue was not resolved and general motors and the local dealership refuse to continue to work on the issue. This is even after filling complaints with bbb. As of November 2022 the issue has cause both batteries to go bad. The dealer has refused to work on the vehicle and it has been out of service for more than 30 days. Secondary issue. The dealer has refused to work on the vehicle but computer is locked by gm so that only gm equipment can see full scope of codes. This means I can not have third parties work on the vehicle. This is can get the vehicle stuck in areas where there is not gm facilities and gm will not provide any assistance as it is not under warranty. This has also prevented me from finding the actual resolution to the problem.

Service trailer brake system alert constantly going off.
Def system failed. Wire harness burned out. Tank failure. Truck went into limp mode. I personally know 3 others with the same issue.
Truck has had multiple issues related to the electrical system and truck modules. It is my opinion that these are all related to voltage issues or module problems. I have had multiple infotainment issues with delays loading, freezing up etc. Dealer has ran updates and checks with nothing found. In October around $35k miles the truck radio would not work if I used the push button start. If I shut the truck off opened the door and let everything reset I could push the start button in the truck and the radio would work majority of the time. The next day I went out to a completely dead truck. I talked to my service department at the local dealer and they said I would need to bring it in but suggested I disconnect the batteries and recharge the batteries. After doing so everything started working correctly. It fixed my radio problem and never went dead again. Since then I have experienced popping noises through the speakers when playing music occasionally. Over the last few weeks I noticed the engine does not attempt to increase cold idle speed until I press the brake to put it in gear. January 22nd I hit the autostart button and it did not work. I started the truck and it had cel, traction control, park brake and wrench, lights on with service emissions, and power reduced messages displayed. Truck is running odd. Codes present are (engine gmlan)p0118 - engine coolant temp circuit high voltage, (brakes gmlan_abs) u0401- invalid data from engine control module, p0562- system voltage low, (hvac controls gmlan_hvac) b1325 - . Control module power circuit. Truck is starting and charging fine. No connection issues at batteries. There are many TSB's and many complaints regarding similar issues. Common brake and emissions faults with minor differences. Module failures, communication faults, and or electrical faults are likely causing all of these similar issues. They need to be categorized as the same failure group which will show gm has a bigger issue.
I turned on my rear defroster. I smelled electrical burning and rear window shattered with my 6 month old in the back seat in her car seat. Gm states there is a recall which can be referenced as n192220470. Speaking with customer service and dealership the recall is VIN specific and my vehicle is not included in the recall even though the year and make is listed in the recall. Very dangerous, especially when there are passengers in the back seat of the vehicle.
When connect my trailer I get a service trailer brake system, then the stability waring start to show up and the brakes on the vehicle seem to act funny. Very unsafe while towing a trailer and kids in the truck. Very unsafe.
I keep getting a warning message "service trailer brake system". The warning may come on for a second or it may stay on for 10 to 15 minutes. It may do it once a month or 10 times in a 2 minute period. Whenever this happens I lose the electrical braking system on what I am towing. There is no set pattern or circumstance for when or how long it will happen. I was told if the alert is not on there is not a way to diagnose the problem and since I never know when it will happen I cannot schedule any type of diagnostic service. It does seem to happen more often when it is raining but has happened in perfect weather too. The warning has occurred both when I am towing and when I am not. I've done searches for possible causes and it seems to be a common problem. I regularly tow a 12,000 lb. Fifth wheel RV with my family. I cannot afford to lose my ability to stop in a reasonable amount of time. I simply cannot do it when I lose my trailer braking system. The date below is the last incident.
Break lights activate by them selves. Can be driving, parked, vehicle off. Parked and locked. The break lights activate randomly. Most recently car was parked in drivevway over the coarse of 2 days. Break lights came on and off until batteries were dead. When parked I can hear clicking noise coming from under the hood periodically, not sure if related or not. Also noticed cruise control will shut its self off some times.
