2 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2016 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 02/27/2018

On 2/28/2018 I had just left the airport in oakland CA, approx 8:00pm. I stop for gas at the chevron station on 98th Ave, after fueling, the car would not start. Reminder, this is a 2016 denali. I had a female associate with me and we had an appointment in san framsico at 8:30pm. The car had lost all power and two other people helped me push into adjacent parking space. The area is known for high crime, basically we were extremely nervous and stranded. Fortunately, we were able to contact aaa and set an appointment to check out the car. We ubered to our appointment. The failure of the battery left us vunrable and we both feared for our safety. The next day, the local mechanic said the battery should have lasted a minimum of seven years. They felt the battery wasn't sufficient to handle the electronics that were built into this car. Therefore, potentially creating a major safety concern with any owner of this vehicle. My complaint highlights the potential safety implications caused by the manufactures decision to reduce cost by installing a battery without the capacity to reasonably start the vehicle after only two years of use. I would hope all owners of this make and model are notified of this posiblity. I can't imagine any of my family members being exposed to this situation. Thank you!.

6 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2008 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 11/13/2014

November 13, I went out to start my 2008 Yukon and the lights, door locks, and cd player began to flicker and then shut off. The gauges also began to flicker erratically, then the car would not start. Later in the afternoon, my husband and I pushed the car out of the garage and when the Yukon went over the lip of the garage into the driveway, the bump caused all the lights, radio, and back dloor latch to come on or begin working. This occurred several other times over several weeks and included the rear door not working or the powerlocks not working with the remote. We took it to driver's automotive in the woodlands, texas, and had them run a diagnostic on the vehicle. The auto repairman checked the battery and cables and said nothing shows up in the diagnostic but eventually they did replace the cbm. We paid $ 718. 00 to replace the cbm, trusting that was the problem. The vehicle started up fine for several weeks after that but since December 21, the Yukon has duplicated the erratic light flickering, radio and ignition not working, the rear door not opening (using the car remote as well as the power button on front console inside vehicle). In addition, the doors won't lock and the gauges flicker uncontrollably and the vehicle won't start. We are very concerned. A diagnostic says nothing is wrong but with the electrical issues, I am fearful of what could happen.

7 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2004 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 11/11/2013

When I start the vehicle and go to the corner store turning the vehicle off, come out of store to restart vehicle it will not start it may take me 10 minutes to 4 hours to get the vehicle started again. Meaning I have been stranded at grocery stores, work, school functions. Attempting to get the vehicle started again I am constantly turning the switch. At this present time I have not drove my truck in almost 5 months. And I have been making truck payments on a vehicle I can't drive. . . . At this time not sure if it is ignition switch or pass lock I know both parts should be covered because it is a default from the manufacturer.

8 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2007 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/25/2010

While driving the vehicle, heard a clicking/cracking/popping noise, smelled a strong odor of smoke and burning smell from the front passenger side underneath the glove box area. At the same time the widows, mirror, and electric locks on the passenger side of the vehicle would not operate. I stopped the vehicle and turned it off. I started looking down under the glove box area and could still smell a very strong burning smell coming from that area. Also the vehicle would not restart. The vehicle was towed to my local auto repair shop. The mechanic observed the same burning smell conditions and removed the wire box underneath the glove box passenger door area. He observed that all the wires were burnt, to include the metal plate that was burnt and charred from an apparent electrical fire. (pictures were taken of the area to include the burnt wires and charred metal) the mechanic stated that we were very lucky the whole car did not catch on fire and burn up. He showed me the damage and stated that where the wires run through a small hole in a metal plate appeared to rub through the wires causing it to short out and actually burn the wires and metal plate. He further stated that a rubber washer or using rubber instead of metal might have prevented the burning/fire.

12 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2003 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/31/2006

I pulled out of my driveway in my 2003 GMC Yukon xl and only went a short distance when I noticed the engine was very sluggish and the dic showed "reduced engine power". I turned around and went home. I shut the vehicle off. When I started it up a little while later it was fine. I called the dealership where I purchased it and they said that this was common and it was due to refueling with the vehicle running or a loose gas cap. . . Neither of these had happened in my case. The next day I had my three children in the vehicle and was driving south on rt. 95 when the vehicle just shut down. I lost all ability to maneuver the vehicle. The vehicle would not start and had to be towed. The mechanic that towed it read the dtc's and found the following: -class 2 data link malfunction. - body control module. - pcm to tac module serial data connection. I placed a call to GMC on 9/2 to report the problem and the danger it had placed my family in. They told me it had to go to a dealership for an official diagnosis. After researching this issue I have found that the same problem has occurred numerous times w/ other Yukons as well as 2003 chevy avalanches. After reading the technical service bulletins regarding this issue it is very apparent that GMC is fully aware of this very serious safety issue but has chosen to ignore it putting millions at risk every day. Someone needs to address this before more people get hurt.
