GMC Yukon owners have reported 811 problems related to electrical system (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of GMC Yukon based on all problems reported for the Yukon.
The panoramic sunroof has a substantial leak, even though the 2023 vehicle only has 33,000 miles on it. The drain lines are clear but water continues to significantly leak out of the rear passenger seatbelt housing onto the seatbelt. There is also significant water drainage through the rear interior lights onto the upper legs of rear passengers (children in car seats), causing a severe electrical hazard. The leaking caused by the drainage defect affects the interior lighting, the seatbelts, and is a potential electric hazard. This seems to be a common occurrence and the manufacturer should repair their defective products. The drainage pipes are obviously either not assembled correctly or the materials don’t hold up. This should not be occurring in a $55,000 vehicle with 30,000 miles. I have multiple videos I can provide but the file sizes are too large to upload, so I took screenshots. I am going to pay for the repair but I should be reimbursed by GMC.

The center screen (infotainment), which shows controls for cabin climate (a/c, heat) and many more functions of the vehicle fails to turn on at random times. It is available for inspection. The external air temperature is in the upper 90s; temperature inside the car’s cabin is easily 115 or higher. This makes safe operation of the car not possible. Additionally passengers cannot occupy the vehicle safely at these extreme temperatures. The problem has been reproduced by dealers. Unknown whether the components have been inspected by the manufacturer. No warning lamps or lights.
Onstar module stopped working for no reason.

I lost all sound on my 2026 GMC Yukon xl with only 150 miles on it. Apparently this is a common issue that needs a recall.
The contact owns a 2021 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while driving approximately driving 45 mph and turning onto an exit the vehicle suddenly reduce speed and lost power and the message "press start" had displayed. The contact stopped the vehicle and eventually restarted the engine and the vehicle operated as normal. The next day the vehicle was driven to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the problem and determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not yet contact regarding the failure. The failure mileage was 42,000.

While operating the vehicle, I began to hear a metallic grinding noise originating from the center of the engine compartment. The sound was clearly audible within the cabin. Approximately one mile before the vehicle ultimately failed, the engine began to malfunction. As I slowed to a stoplight, the vehicle started to shake before shutting off abruptly and entering a coasting state. All electrical systems powered down and the vehicle would not restart. Shortly thereafter, heavy smoke began to emit both inside and outside the cabin, visibly coming from the hood and through the air vents. There was also a distinct burning odor. I attempted to restart the vehicle multiple times without success. The dashboard displayed the message: “conditions not suitable to shift. ” due to the vehicle becoming disabled on a curve and posing a safety hazard, I contacted the sheriff’s office for assistance to prevent a potential collision. Upon their arrival, it was noted that the engine compartment and hood area were exceptionally hot, particularly where the smoke was originating. The dealership has since confirmed they have also been unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle has been inspected by the GMC dealer and is currently pending further evaluation by a gm-certified mechanic to determine the root cause. Prior to this incident, there were no warning lights, system messages, or other noticeable symptoms indicating an issue.
Onstar module failure. No communication with vehicle in the event of emergencies. Safety systems disabled. No remote access to unlock/ lock doors. No remote start. No speed limit notification. All built in apps and WI-fi no longer functioning.
Transmission has been replaced, still having same problems. Actuator was fixed within the transfer case. Still shaking. Was driven by dealer and told to check again after changing into summer tires. Changed into summer tires and still having issues if not worse. Separately; the power running boards have never worked - been told its wiring issue. Wiring issue is a concern for fire safety.
Driving the vehicle with my family in it on merrit parkway in CT 230 am on may 10 th car rpm start going up and making noises and felt like gear not shifting in few seconds later car all sudden on its own shifted to neutral as my speed 55-60 mph was during that moment. And screen on dash went blank dark . I was able to move to side of the road safe as possible . Road is only two lane and no room to park on side . Immediately turn hazards lights on and try to restart the car and vehicle will not turn on . State troopers came and assisted us till tow truck came and vehicle get towed to dealer.

The vehicle has experienced recurring suspension, drivability, and pulling issues associated with the 4-corner air ride leveling suspension system since early ownership. The first major incident occurred at approximately 4,600 miles when the vehicle displayed suspension warnings and would not accelerate properly past highway speeds. Since that time, the vehicle has repeatedly experienced pulling during acceleration, unstable ride behavior, suspension/leveling concerns, alignment-related issues, and drivability instability. The problem has been reproduced multiple times and documented through approximately 16 repair visits and roughly 74 cumulative days out of service. Dealership service records include repeated suspension inspections, drivability evaluations, wheel alignments, and related repair attempts. The issue remains unresolved and the vehicle is currently back in service again for the same concern. The recurring pulling and instability create safety concerns because the vehicle does not consistently track properly during acceleration and normal driving conditions. Suspension warning messages and drivability symptoms first appeared early in ownership while the vehicle was still under factory warranty. I have also found many similar owner complaints online involving the same suspension system in comparable gm full-size SUV models.
Onstar telemetry module failed. Needs replaced. These modules are on back order. Safety features and emergency calling are disabled due to failed telemetry modules. Over the air updates cannot be completed due to the failure of the telemetry system. Important module updates from the manufacturer are not happening.
When turning on the car, a message pops up on the dash and will not go away. Dashboard says “ service safety restraint system”.
First incident April 9 2024 not even a month after purchased. Vehicle dashboard lit up light a christmas tree all warning lights while driving on highway. Vehicle shook and sputtered and turned off. The vehicle was serviced explanation given was loose spark plugs on a new vehicle. 2nd incident roughly month after recall repair for engine propulsion campaign. February 26 and 27 2026 . While driving the following lights came on engine failure ,brake failure , service transmission now unable to shift soon. I was terrified because I could not control the vehicle. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership. The answer to the issues was battery failure. Third incident April 17th 2026 I driving on highway 70 miles check engine light comes on flashes dashboard goes dark. Vechicle sputters and shut down. I restarted the vehicle the warning on the display disappeared and the vehicle restarted. I reached returned the vehicle again to the dealership because the problem resumed slowing down even though I’m depressing the gas. Vehicle is shifting and dragging. Resulting unexpected lurching. My vehicle has been at the dealership since end of April 2026 it remains there currently. My representative stated a code indicating misfiring has appeared 18 times. Also everyday my vehicle keeps saying software update even I installed the update and it says complete. I know gm is not updating my vehicle software everyday. That indicates there is a computer issue as well. My anxiety level is through the roof at this point. I complained before about this same failures in a Cadillac escalade prior to it lurching forward and crashing. I filed a complaint before February 2024 . There is something really wrong with gm engines and software. I know I’m not the only one experiencing these problems.

The contact owns a 2019 GMC Yukon xl. The contact stated that on several occasions while stopped and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle reversed inadvertently and then jerked forward to accelerate. The contact added that the battery was drained but the failure was not the most important to report at this time. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the starter needed to be replaced. The issue reoccurred the same day. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

The back hatch would not open while the car was on and in park. Upon reaching in without being in the car, we turned it off, and it engaged reverse on its own, causing it to reverse immediately almost causing terminal harm to myself and my family. It careened into the woods with us unable to stop it due to the immediate speed. No one was in the vehicle, it was solely self propelled. We have a video of the path it took and the damage it caused. When the car wrecked, even when turned off, the lights and windshields wipers engaged by themselves.

Ok so my first issues were with the vehicle stalling while driving in gear. Happened a few times intersections off-ramps etc…and the car would roll to a stop. Luckily no one killed. Again happened a few times. Went to dealer they “fixed”it. Then it happened a couple other times…scary shit…went to dealer then they“fixed” it again. Happened again I didnt bring it back. By this point I was carrying a 10 millimeter wrench in the glovebox to disconnect the battery so the body computer would reset. Car would start after cycling the power from the battery terminal. And those were my electrical problems …as far as mechanical problems I brought car in for the recall notice “ the pico test’ . Went for the recall oil change /test/per the recommendations. 300 miles later car engine failure at 70 miles an hour on route [xxx] south wife driving. She started crying doesn’t want anything to do with this car. Too many incidents… safety of my family at risk. Please help. Fyi I am a mechanic / car electrician [xxx] so could probably be much more descriptive if need be tow trucks ubers rental cars etc… shit show. Engine died April 16 so car has been at a dealer in [xxx] for 31days. I have dealer receipts and some play by play video of a few of the incidents information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
We were driving on 95s when the Yukon denali automatically shifted itself from d to n. On the dash it had a warning message to press start again. When my husband did that we could smell a smoke smell. Meanwhile, we are in the middle lane of the highway while trying to safely get off the middle of the interstate without being rear ended by the semi that was behind us. We finally made it to the side of the interstate where my husband was able to put the Yukon in park. He was never able to get the vehicle back in drive. The car would never click back over to start up again. We had to have the vehicle towed to the nearest GMC dealership where it has now been for almost 3 weeks with no timeline for a date of a new engine. I was told it needed a new engine and radiator. Said the alternator was trying to catch fire when he was trying to start the vehicle. This is the second time the Yukon has been in the dealership in 4 months for this recall issue. This time it is 2hrs away from my home.
March 29th 2026 my 2021 Yukon xl engine stalled while driving at 45mph (no prior warning lamps or messages, restart engine came on dash) causing me to immediately pull over and come to a stop still in traffic, it shifted my vehicle into park, I was in an in an un-safe spot and was stuck in park (conditions not correct for shift on dash) because my vehicle would not allow me to shift to neutral and push it to the side of the road, (could not jump start) had towed to dealership and mentioned engine failure and fuel pump control module recalls but according to them it was a starter issue, I asked them to still check the fuel pump control module regardless. Picked up vehicle and a week later April 14th the exact same thing happened vehicle stalled while driving dash said restart engine while coasting (no prior warning lamps or messages) forcing me to pull over where it rolled to a stop and locked itself into park leaving me in unsafe conditions again. Had towed back to the same dealership and waiting to hear back from them.

The failure is heat-related and intermittent: the screen functions on cool days, and on hot days it fails the vast majority of the time, unpredictably, after the vehicle heat-soaks in the sun. When it fails, the entire screen goes dark and I lose the backup camera and surround-view cameras, all hvac/climate controls, audio, navigation, and most secondary controls. Steering, brakes, and engine are unaffected. This creates two safety hazards. First, loss of the rearview camera image eliminates rear visibility when backing — the exact risk fmvss 111 is intended to prevent — raising the chance of a backover crash. Second, loss of all climate control in extreme heat endangers occupants in north carolina summer temperatures, and a blank, unresponsive screen is a driver distraction. The brake system control module, engine control module, and vehicle stability control system have repeatedly failed across 24 months and 9 repair attempts at two authorized GMC dealerships in tennessee. As of March 17, 2026 the vehicle has 27 active diagnostic fault codes including u160f and u1610 (brake system control module lost communication on both can buses), u1611 (engine control module lost communication), and c2a0a (vehicle stability control disabling inhibited). All components are available for inspection at beaman GMC in antioch, tennessee where the vehicle currently remains in an undrivable condition. Safety risk: vehicle has stalled on the highway with my family including young children in the car. Brakes have randomly engaged over 100 times with nothing around and also failed to engage when needed. Stability control is disabled. These are active safety failures confirmed by GMC's own diagnostic scans. The problems have been confirmed by both darrell waltrip GMC and beaman GMC across 9 visits. GMC's own technical assistance center (case xxx) was involved and could not resolve the defects. The vehicle was returned with more active codes than at drop-off after 57 consecutive days in GMC custody. Two unresolved GMC safety recalls are open on this vehicle — l87 engine loss of propulsion (n252494003) and brake fluid leak detection failure — directly related to the reported defects. Warning codes have been present and documented since October 2023 beginning at 1,381 miles. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

From the time I got my 2024 Yukon denali I have had problems with the electrical systems not working, it was in the shop for 2 months upon delivery to me when it was brand new, and since then I have had issues with the engine racing, the start button not working, or cutting off and on , on its own, recently the motor cuts on but never turns over. It has been in the shop again for over a week now and they replaced the engine control module and it is still doing the same thing. The dealership is now telling me its a wiring issue causing it. It has been something the entire time I have owned it. I paid 90k for a vehicle that has major issues. I am looking into the lemon law in my state of nc, and filing a complaint with GMC to see if I can get a replacement vehicle or traded.
Vehicle could not detect key fob, key fob had normal operation(lock, unlock, remote start, tailgate open and close, all functional) but unable to start vehicle or power vehicle accessories. Windows opened with key fob and could not close windows, could not put vehicle in neutral, was stranded for 6 hours, unable to scan vehicle due to lack of key detection not allowing accessories to operate to attain connection with modules, unable to tow because couldn’t get vehicle in neutral. Vehicle battery good, key fob battery good. Was stuck with vehicle because couldn’t not close windows. Very unsafe and inconvenient situation.
On 3/14/26, on I-75 in troy, michigan at 70mph the vehicle, with 4000k miles on the odometer completely shut off. I pushed to restart the engine and it would not restart. My whole family was in the car and we were on a curve. I was able to coast to a flat shoulder. The vehicle would not restart or shift out of park. Onstar took seven hours to tow the vehicle. The dealer is installing a new l87 6. 2l engine. I do not have the vehicle back yet. I received an economy car as a loaner. The dealer says gm will not extend the factory warranty despite the engine replacement. My family could have been easily killed.
I own a 2023 GMC Yukon denali. In Nov. 2023, at about 4,000 miles, the vehicle suffered a complete engine and electrical failure at highway speed while I was traveling with my husband and three small children. It suddenly lost all power in the fast lane, including acceleration and engine function. Steering became extremely heavy, consistent with loss of power steering assist, and the electronics shut down. We had to guide the vehicle across traffic while coasting downhill to the shoulder beyond a guardrail. Traffic had to avoid us, creating a serious safety hazard. The vehicle would not restart. The vehicle was towed and required a complete engine replacement under warranty. After that replacement, additional issues followed. There was an hvac/defrost concern. In June 2025, the vehicle again became inoperable without warning while parked at a store. It would not start despite repeated attempts, including by a dealership representative. A diagnostic scan produced over a page of error codes, but the dealership could not identify a cause and stated the vehicle was safe. In Dec. 2025, the vehicle engine was inspected under a recall and I was told there were no issues. In Feb. 2026, the vehicle lost heat and was found to have no coolant despite regular maintenance and recent inspection. In Mar. 2026, at about 37,700 miles, the vehicle developed a loud clunking noise while driving. I stopped driving and returned it to the dealership, where I was told the engine had failed again and required another full replacement. The vehicle has now had two engine failures and three engines installed in less than three years. There were no warning lights or prior indications before these failures. I no longer believe this vehicle is safe or reliable for transporting my family.
Vehicle shut-off while driving on the expressway, around 70-75mph. Upon vehicle turning off, I had no option but to "coast" off to the left side, which thankfully, freed me from traffic for the most part. If anyone who have been a foot over, they would've hit me. I have had numerous electrical issues with this vehicle and have taken it to the dealership but they have been "unable" to duplicate the issue. Vehicle was immediately taken to the dealership (and they still have as of this incident report submission). They told me last night that they will keep it again today and test drive it again to see if they can get it to do anything but if it doesn't show anything new, they have nothing to diagnose and will give me my car back. After requesting a copy of repair orders and a list of the history codes in my car, I am beside myself that anyone thinks giving me this vehicle back to drive is ok. See the history code report in documents uploaded. These are major safety failures in a large vehicle.
On 3/3/2026 during the night-time hours, I was traveling on the freeway in my 2023 GMC Yukon at over 65 mph when I received a notice from the instrument cluster stating that the battery was low and oil pressure was low. Before I could pull over to a safe location, the Yukon turned off while in motion. My wife and two children were in the vehicle. The Yukon stalled in the number one lane of the off-ramp. I had to remove my children and wife from the vehicle while in the roadway on busy throughfares and in darkness. I attempted to jumpstart the Yukon, but efforts were unsuccessful. The Yukon was towed to the dealership where I purchased it purchased from. The Yukon was returned to my custody on 3/10/2026 stating it was an issue with the battery. While driving the Yukon home it began to bog down and stalled out in-front of my residence as it was being driven by my wife. After arriving home (night-time), I went to check the Yukon, and it started with no issues. I drove the Yukon to see if the errors would occur again. While driving the Yukon on the freeway, the Yukon rmps indicated close to redline and I received a notification from the instrument cluster stating to turn the vehicle off (traveling at about 70-75 mph). Once again, I was unable to pull off to a safe location before the Yukon turned off on its own while still in motion; I attempted to jumpstart the Yukon but attempts were unsuccessful. The Yukon was towed again to dealership. On 3/11/2026 I was advised that the engine had seized and on 3/13/2026 I was advised by GMC the engine needed to be replaced (this was covered under powertrain warranty). The approximate milage of the vehicle is at about 42,200.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Yukon. The contact received notifications of NHTSA campaign numbers: 22v617000 (seat belts), 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling), and 22v903000 (exterior lighting). The vehicle was serviced under customer satisfaction program: n242436631. However, the failure occurred. The contact stated that after the serial data gateway module was updated, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle failed to restart with the key fob, and the doors failed to unlock with the key fob. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer; however, the dealer refused to diagnose or repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 177,000.
On [xxx], my 2022 GMC Yukon denali xl (VIN [xxx] ) experienced a complete loss of propulsion while I was driving on [xxx] in el paso, texas, with my wife and two young children in the vehicle. Mileage was approximately 50,364. While in motion, the vehicle was displaying abnormal behavior, concerned the vehicle would stall on the highway, I exited at the geronimo exit. As the vehicle slowed, it shut down entirely. Multiple restart attempts failed. The dashboard cycled on and off, displaying a "service 4wd" warning while the vehicle was in 2wd mode. The transmission locked, and the vehicle became inoperable in the middle of the roadway with traffic passing on both sides. Onstar sos was activated to communicate the unsafe location. The el paso police department was requested to divert traffic. A city tow vehicle arrived after approximately fifteen minutes; my family was assisted across the roadway. Roadside assistance did not arrive for approximately three hours. This was the second loss-of-propulsion event on this vehicle in less than twelve months. The first occurred in March 2025 and resulted in engine replacement under NHTSA safety recall 25v274 (l87 engine loss of propulsion). The [xxx] failure occurred after the recall remedy had been applied and the engine was replaced. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who replaced the throttle body, intake air duct and a service item titled "repair open ground circuit". I am filing this report to document a second loss-of-propulsion event on a vehicle that already received the remedy under recall 25v274, and to ensure NHTSA has visibility into the potential pattern of recurring or inadequate remedy on the l87 platform. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2013 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the rear tailgate opened independently. The failure had occurred on several occasions. The battery warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 mph, the vehicle lost automotive power. The contact pulled over to the shoulder lane and attempted to shift to park(p); however, the vehicle failed to shift to park(p). No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed; however, the dealer stated that the failure of the battery light being illuminated was unknown. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the computer system malfunctioned, causing the instrument cluster to turn off unintendedly. Additionally, the doors failed to immediately unlock, and the driver’s side mirror could not be adjusted. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 22,000.
The SUV has 46,000 miles on it. Recently, the check engine light illuminated, prompting me to take it to the dealership for servicing. The diagnostic codes retrieved were u0285 and u1345. I was informed that the aero shutter required replacement. There was no physical damage; it merely ceased functioning. The dealership confirmed the active check engine light and conducted a diagnosis. While my safety was not immediately compromised, I felt extremely frustrated upon learning that gm would not cover the repair under warranty, despite this being a recognized issue that gm has yet to address. This situation is simply unacceptable and warrants further investigation and resolution.
Rear camera for in cabin rear view is improperly sealed for cold weather and constantly fogs which renders the camera worthless. I was also sent brand new side lights from gm that were improperly sealed and built condensation them after a month or two.
Driver side mirror starts moving on its own without any physical buttons being pressed. Accident notification system has failed and has produced a cel.
Transmission went out very early. Had to get it replaced whenever I reverse. I have to really smash on the break in order for it to stop if it does stop so somethings wrong with the breaking whenever I hit a bump the left side suspension feels like I’m a lose control and sometimes my radio works and sometimes it doesn’t I’ve been trying to work with dealers I have extended warranty on it. They’re saying it’s not covered something about the brake pump is covered, but the belts are not. The transmission was put in only because it left me stranded. Otherwise I would’ve been stuck paying for that. The dealership actually helped me with that. My gps turns on and off sometime. I’m not sure if it’s electrical.
