GMC Yukon owners have reported 19 problems related to dashboard failed (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of GMC Yukon based on all problems reported for the Yukon.
Cluster dashboard fails to light up when the key turns on the vehicle. None is the dashboard indicators move or light up, not able to see speed, miles, gas gage, etc. It takes 40 minute into a drive before it turns on randomly.

Speedometer randomly sticks, or accelerates to maximum. Oil pressure gauges max out as well. Very dangerous to drive with no concept of speed, and also very illegal. When I stop the vehicle, I can turn off the engine. If I continue to turn the key 90% (but not enough to start the engine), and let off, the gauges will drop up to 5%. After 5 minutes of resetting the instruments, the gauges will reset. However, the next time I drive I might be going through a school zone at 40 instead of 25, but my speedometer says 80. Clearly unsafe.

Just bought car electrical has been acting up for a while now (30 days) and now dash has gone out sunroof wont open pr close and driver side passenger window doesnt work auto store wont fix or take back car.
The contact owns a 2003 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that the instrument cluster failed to function. The lights on the instrument cluster failed to illuminate and none of the gauges functioned. In addition, the digital display was not functioning due to the failure. The dealer was notified of the failure and the vehicle was to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
At the initial start up and the follow on drive selection of the vehicle, the drive selector indicator on the (speedo) speed cluster fails to light up to be able to see the exact gear the vehicle is in. During low light times the indication is barely visible and day light hours you are unable to see the indication to ensure the proper gear of vehicle which could result in selecting wrong gear.

I have a 2004 Yukon denali and the dash board has gone out. I see that this is a common issue with these vehicles. I have 82,000 miles on it. It is going to cost me $500 to get this fixed. I wish GMC would realize that this is a major problem and should refund people with this problem. It has also made me think again about buying another GMC again!!!.
I purchased a 2002 GMC Yukon xl 2 days ago, sold "as is" with no warranty. At the bottom of the speedometer are the lights that indicate the position of the shifter (park, reverse, neutral, overdrive, and gears 3,2 and 1) and also the odometer reading. These indicator lights worked fine during the test drive but became intermittent on the drive home from the dealership and while driving the vehicle since then. You lose all indication of what gear you are in and of the odometer reading. This problem could lead to a driver shifting gears improperly and unsafely, such as shifting into a forward gear in a parking lot when the reverse gear is intended or shifting into reverse while driving and seeking overdrive after being in a lower gear. I have now been told by a few dealers that instrument cluster failures are somewhat common in Yukon xls and are costing an average of about $700 to replace the entire instrument cluster when only a single gauge is having an intermittent problem. Since the problem seems to be common and can effect safety, as in the examples I gave above, please investigate this problem and see if a recall/manufacturer fix is warranted. I just investigated driver complaints around the internet and found several complaints about Yukon xl speedometer failure/intermittent, for instance. If a driver doesn't know what speed he is traveling at he is a less safe driver and a potential hazard to others. Excessively slow drivers and excessively fast drivers can both cause serious problems in traffic, and in rural areas there may be fewer, if any, drivers alongside to help gauge the normal speed that is appropriate. Also a vehicle could unexpectedly fail or stall in traffic, causing an accident, if a driver is unaware of an extremely low battery or low fuel, etc. Instrument clusters are very important for safety in many ways. Please investigate problems with intermittent and failures in the instrument clusters used in 2002 GMC Yukon xls. (mine is a 1500).

Upon taking delivery of vehicle erratic electrical problem existed. Often only the front doors would like, leaving the back doors and rear door unlocked. Often upon inserting key in ignition, drivers seat would zoom forward pushing occupant against steering wheel. While driving, outside rear view mirrors would retract for no reason. Dealer has not been able to fix though many service notes exist. Lately, the amp gauge failed however amperage is not affected. Next the speedometer showed 38 mph while not moving. It is totally now inoperative, varying from never leaving zero to showing 80 while going 20 mph. Since I cannot trust the accuracy of any gauge, I have no idea how fast I am driving or any of the other vital instrument readings.
2005 GMC Yukon xl speedometer reading erratic, now doesn't work at all - needle hangs down past 120 mph. Appears that the stepper motor that drives the speedometer gauge has failed. I believe this has been recalled for model years before 2005, but not for this model year. Dealer says that the entire instrument cluster needs to be replaced.
2003 GMC Yukon xl speedometer hangs or goes 40 or 50 miles per hour faster than actual speed. Gm wants >$400 (too much money) to repair occurs on most of their truck and suvs. Mine has 90,000 mile. They provided defective stepper motors on the instrument panel and are profiting from the repair. Gauge seems to fail on long trips and then will eventually start working again. Never can tell if it is really working.
Speedometer cluster failed. Gm is covering the malfunction up to 70,000 miles. I have 80,000. . . It seems that this is a very common malfunction. Gm won't cover over 70,000 miles. Its a safety issue if your speedometer quits working.
December 2008- instrument cluster went out- speedometer no longer working December 2008- battery gauge no longer working March 2009- stabilitrak issues. . . Sometimes the stabilitrak would work and at times it would not work July 2009 to January 2010- reduced engine power (almost cause 2 wrecks) could not perform a diagnosis. . . Could not read computer. Changed fuel pump. No more reduced engine power message August 2011- wheel bearing issues. Reduced engine power (almost caused wreck. . . Backed up traffic) September 2011- gas pedal sticking November 2011- reduced engine power. . . Happens 5 times within a 30 mile trip. Attempted to resolve problem several times, but running out of options. Have to kill car in middle of highway or intersection to get car to work properly.
The check engine light came on, all the lights on the gauges went out, the traction control went out, the brakes started pulsating and stopped the car all by it self. This all happened after the incident that I described in complaint (odi) # 10254413.

Speedometer cluster broken on 2003 GMC Yukon xl denali. Chevy has a known problem with faulty speedometers.
Starting in November 2007, I have been having problems with my 2005 Yukon speedometer. It would either start at 60mph, not go higher than 45mph, and lately it just failed. It's not registering any speed. On July 25, 2008, I was told by a GMC dealership that my cluster has failed and needing to be replaced. I was also told that these they have seen a lot of these vehicles with the same problem. Supposedly, there was a recall for 2003 and 2005 models having problems with their speedometer.
Instrument panel inoperative recall notice for 7 years/70,000 miles, received after 71,000 miles even when problem started at 64,000 miles, all gauges go out at random and is interment. A call to general motors and an hour of time I was told nothing can be done I was out of recall notice mileage and I was out of luck and had to pay for the repair myself. *updated 12/12/07 updated 12/12/07.
I started having problems with my speedometer cluster about 1 year after purchase. It worked most of the time so didn't take it in for repair under my warranty. After 3 years it stopped working altogether but I was no longer under warranty. I called the dealer to see if there was a recall and he said there was but I had too many miles on the vehicle to qualify. So I have been driving without a working speedometer for the past two years.
The needles for my speedometer and engine temp. Both sit in the 6 o'clock position and are completely inoperative. Speedometer has been broke since December of 2005 and the engine temp gauge broke October 2007.
2004 GMC Yukon slt -- instrument panel when truck was started. All gauges (fuel, battery & water) became inactive. Shift indicator no longer worked and I was unable to determine what gear the car was in. Audio system (cassette, cd player and radio) became inoperable. Car taken to dealership -- beck & masten north in houston. I was told that the body control module was defective and would need to be replaced. Previous issue with the instrument panel cluster going out, causing speedometer to become inoperative. Dealer admitted that this was a problem on a number of Yukons. (I haven't seen this a a recall on either your site or GMC's site. ) GMC has violated fmvss standard no. 101 and parts 573 and 577.
