1 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2006 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 12/18/2013

I just bought this vehicle. The rear window release button is pushed all the way in and will not open the window. While I had the rear hatch apart I was going to put in a mechanism to allow opening the rear hatch from inside. I think this should be a factory recall to install 1. A more reliable door and window latch system and 2. To put in a inside release mechanism. I don't understand why there are over 300 technical service bulletins listed for this vehicle in the GMC site but only 13 according to NHTSA.

2 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2006 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 04/22/2012

On 4/22/2012 my rear glass window exploded in my driveway for no reason. No one was around it are touched the vehicle for at least 3 hours. Good thing my newborn was not in the vehicle and that I was not driving.

3 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2003 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/26/2010

I have a 2003 GMC Yukon. Several days ago I was going to put some items in the back end. After raising the rear hatch glass, I heard a popping noise. I couldn't tell where it came from at first, but when I tried to shut the rear glass, the right side of the glass just popped up. After looking at it closely I could see that the glass was separated from the right hinge. I had to pull the glass down by hand and align it while trying to shut the glass. My vehicle is a 2003 model with 55,000 miles. It is a second vehicle and stays garaged most of the time. I have a 1996 tahoe I use for hauling and odd jobs. I have probably opened the rear glass on the 2003 Yukon no more than a dozen times in the years that I have had it I usually open the entire hatch. Gm states that this problem is not a defect and is not covered under any warranty. Upon checking on line apparently hundreds of people have had the same problem. Gm refuses to do anything about it. The repair costs approximately $1000. 00. If this glass blows out or falls off while driving in traffic, someone could be seriously injured not only from the weight of the glass but from flying glass and debris. / this is definitely a manufacturing defect that again gm is ignoring until someone is injured and they are sued.

4 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2005 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/15/2010

Failure of rear window hinge in GMC 2005 Yukon. Hinge and glass separate, window is loose; can be pulled off due to suction from other vehicles or the wind. Contacted GMC, customer service rep, christian, said not covered due to warranty expired on vehicle, no recall in effect. I explained there are several posts all with the same issue regarding the rear hinge failing. He offered to provide a service provider, but I would have to pay the expense of replacing the entire back glass. This seems to be a known problem to GMC, some posts indicated covered by dealers, others were not. One listing of back glass falling out while driving. This occurred when we opened the back glass to get something out of the rear of the vehicle. Vehicle is garaged at home, and while at work. Rear window is rarely opened. Never towed anything behind vehicle. As much info that has been written about this issue, I'm hoping GMC will re-consider and place a re-call. Soon. Only 65k miles, purchased new in may 2005. Original owner.

9 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2002 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 06/15/2010

2002 GMC Yukon xl rear tailgate glass failed/broken hinge due to poor design. This results in the rear glass held on by one hinge instead of two. Rear glass does not close properly and is at risk to detach from vehicle. Many owners of this vehicle (and sister vehicles tahoe and suburban) have experienced this defect. Gm fails to acknowledge or assume responsibility.

10 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2003 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

When the top right hinge broke away from the glass on the rear door of my 2003 Yukon denali (~50,000 mi. ), and after discussing it with my dealer, I thought it was an isolated case. The resulting twisting of the misaligned window has caused the left hinge bond to partially crack and separate as well. My vehicle is garaged 90+% of the time and I seldom used the rear window. Currently, the only thing holding this window to the vehicle is the door lock and one partial (left) hinge. It is a disaster waiting to happen. My dealer would not do anything, other than replace the entire back door at $1,000. My insurance company wouldn't either saying there was no broken glass. I feel the above defect, along with over 100 forum exact same descriptions are just a small portion of this total problem with both the chevy and GMC vehicles of this era.

11 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2004 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 09/03/2009

The back glass on our 2004 GMC Yukon xl broke at the right hinge at first. We hardly ever opened the back glass, so that shouldn't have been an issue. Today the left back glass hinge broke. I have searched for a recall on this, however there isn't one. GMC is aware and acknowledges the problem but isn't willing to repair the issue. Found many forums where other GMC & chevy owners are facing the same problem. It can be fixed for around $1000. 00 but since it is apparently a defect on their end. . . . . Why should we have to pay for it? please help!!!.

14 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2007 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 04/13/2006

The 2007 GMC Yukon (& Chevrolet tahoe) have a significant safety issue / problem. The instrument panel gauges are very difficult to read in daytime (sunny) conditions. Most of the time during daytime/sunny conditions you can not just glance at the instruments to read them. You have to divert your attention for 2 or more seconds to read even the speedometer (which is the easiest to read). All instruments have black faces with white markings which are legible day and night. The daytime visual recognition problem is caused by two conditions. 1) red pointers that do not contrast sufficiently with the black face, and 2) dash cowling shading/glare problems. The top left (oil pressure) and top right (voltmeter) gauges are almost impossible to read. The bottom right (coolant temp) is very difficult to read. The bottom left (fuel) is difficult to very difficult to read. The two large center gauges (tachometer and speedometer) are difficult to read. The time / attention required to read these gauges presents a safety hazard because you are forced to take your eyes off the road for far to long (or to keep repeating looks to check your speed / fuel status. I recently purchased a 2007 GMC Yukon and made a road trip of 3000 miles. Two drivers had similar visual recognition problems during daylight hours. I gave up even trying to read the other gauges. If you wear sunglasses you have to lift them to try to read the gauges. There are some things you can do (have to do) to lessen the visual recognition problem. 1) turn on the lights (provides minimal dash illumination), 2) close the sunroof shade (reduces glare), and 3) place you hand above your eyes as a shield (reduces glare). I have talked to the gm dealer to see if they could increase illumination on the dash lighting. (that would still mean I would have to turn on the lights during the day. ) bottom line - they can't do anything - they can't re-engineer gm's product.

15 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2004 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/15/2005

On August 15,2005 my husband drove to portland to attend our grandsons birthday party. He stopped to pick up our son and his family to take to our daughters. Leaving their house he pulled out onto the road at approximately 5 miles per hour and the rear window exploded outward as if blown out from the inside. He recalls that there were no pedestrians or hearing any thing hit the window. The dealer and gm has refused to pursue this so we replaced the window. The professional who replaced our window said that it appeared to blow out from the inside. He also stated that he has seen windows while replacing them shatter from little pressure. We stressed to our dealer and gm our concern that this could be a major safety issue. Luckily our children and grandchildren sitting in the back were not hurt.

18 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2001 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 04/03/2001

While parked in the garage, the rear tailgate glass exploded on a 40 degree day. I filed a police report. The police found that the glass exploded from the inside out. The rear shocks were pushed into the lifted (up) position, but the window was still latched shut. Glass was blown everywhere in the garage and was all over the rear seat where my children sit. The dealer wasn't interested in seeing the truck, they just told me to call my insurance company. I filed a complaint (#03702924) with gm customer service.
