Windshield wipers failed to operate in driving rain resulting in extremely low visability. Vehicle was pulled off the road, ignition was shut off and started again in an attempt to get wipers to work. Wipers still failed to operate. Car could not be safely operated until rain had ceased. This is a known failure on many gm vehicles. We had a similar incident in an s-10 truck approximately 2 years ago, so we were familiar with problem.

For the past year, my wipers have been stopping intermittently. Especially when it is raining, they do not start. I try when the weather is dryer, and they seem to work at that time, however, still intermittenly.
A recall was issued on the windshield wiper motor, however, this vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN even though it has been at the dealer for the same failure that was mentioned in the recall. The windshield wipers worked intermittently. This started on December 2, 2004 and continued to do this two or three times a week. The vehicle was in motion when the wipers went out.
While driving in the rain the windshield wipers stopped for no apparent reason. I had to change lanes through traffic and stop on the shoulder because I had no visibility. This same event has happened a couple of times previous to this incident. My husband own a different GMC vechile that was recalled due to the same problem. It seems that the 1998 Yukon was not included in the most recent recall related to this problem and I believe this is a serious issue that gm should address. This defect is putting alot of people in danger and it is very clear that gm is aware of it.
While driving in rainy weather front windshield wipers failed. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
While driving on the interstate during a wet snow-storm, in heavy traffic that contributed to the slush on our windshield, the windshield wipers quit working. It is only by the grace of god that I was able to cross lanes and reach the side of the road. I turned off my engine and waited for approx. 10 minutes for the wiper motor to cool down. My GMC mechanic told me that there has been a recall on this exact motor but that GMC has not included the 1998 year Yukons included. This is the third time my wipers have stopped working - always during long-term driving and during heavy use of the wipers. I have written to GMC about the problem and requested their help. They were not interested in helping me nor were they concerned about the safety of myself, my family and other drivers on the road that are severely at risk with this problem.
Rear windshield wiper failure to work intermittently and park.

Windsheild wipers works intermittentlyon a family trip had to get out and tap the windshield motor box on the firewell, and then they work. I learned of a recall, but it didn't extend to the year 1999 I think it should, and if you think it should please send me a recall. Thank you.
The windshield wipers on my 1998 Yukon never seem to want to work when it rains. Other times they seem to be ok about 50% of the time, but the failure in the rain is about 75%.
Windshield wiper malfunction is a problem in my 1999 Yukon. GMC does not want to address this seriouse problem.
Driving on the interstate in so. Idaho, during a heavy rainstorm, in moderate traffic, my windshield wiper suddenly stopped working. I could not see anything in front of me (through the windshield) and had to guide my car to the shoulder of the road using the side window for visability. I repeatedly turned the wiper switches but could not get them to work. I sat by the side of the interstate for over 20 minutes with my engine running while trying to get the wipers to start working again. They did not. I had to abandon my vehicle and flag down a passing vehicle to assist me in getting help. When I returned to the vehicle with a mechanic, and started my Yukon up, the wipers worked fine. I immediately took the vehicle to a GMC dealer where I first learned that the wiper motor was defective, I learned that GMC knew it was defective and also learned that GMC was not going to fix the problem.
Windshield wipers don't work sometimes. Switch is operative as is motor. Electrical shop wants to "search down a potential short" they have seen several Yukons with this problem and 1996 Yukons were recalled for this problem.

When driving windshield wipers come on intermittently. Dealership is aware of problem.
Windshied wipers work intermittently. There is a recall on this make/model. But, this vehicle was not included due to VIN. Recall 98v150001.
Recall 98v150; windshield wipers suddenly stopped working. Dealer contacted, and repairwork was done to remedy problem at owner's expense. Vehicle does not comply with recall due to VIN.
Windshield wipers worked intermittently and then failed completely making operation of the vehicle unsafe. Contacted dealer and replaced wiper module and cover at owners expense. On 7-5-00 contacted GMC to inquire about recall id #98v150001 as it may apply to vehicle. GMC said that there was nothing they could do because this vehicle was not included in campaign per VIN search. GMC cannot do anything even though this is the same make, model, and year with the same problem as those included in recall #98v150001. . ????.
While driving with the windshield wipers on they will suddenly quit working. Consumer has to exist the truck and play with the wiper for them to restart. This results in poor visibility and almost causes accidents. There's a recall 03v159000 for this issue but the model and year is outside the remedy scope.
Windshield wiper motor failed prior to recall, recall repairs refused due to wrong month. (98v-043).
Windshield wipers stopped functioning due to the wires disconnecting, causing poor visibility during inclement weather.
The consumer has experienced problems with the winshield wipers.
