14 problems related to alternator/generator/regulator have been reported for the 1999 Honda Accord. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2013

7/8/2013 approaching a stop sign on a flat residential street, the car suddenly died. It restarted right away. The next morning the car died as soon as I put it in gear. Again it restarted. On my way home from work that same day all the lights on the dash came on for a second, but the car did remain on, although there seemed to be a second or two where everything felt like it froze up. Ever since then, I have to hold the key turned for about 5 whole seconds to keep the car started. If I let go right away, the car immediately dies. Then on Friday 8/31, all the lights flashed on the dash, and then the car died completely as I was accelerating on the on ramp to the highway. I was able to pull over quickly and fortunately did not cause an accident. After a few minutes the car did restart and I was able to make it home. I called my Honda dealer in July after the first incident, and was told they would only look at it for $100 diagnostic fee. I had my local independent mechanic check everything they could think of a few days later , battery, alternator- and the last resort they had was the ignition switch. Honda has already had two recalls on my vehicle for ignition switch issues, 2002 and 2005. The Honda dealer was very unwilling to check anything this time around and made it very clear that I would be responsible for paying for the diagnostic check , and that did not seem appropriate given the ignition switch issues in the past.

2 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2010

1999 Honda Accord v6 2 dr sometimes starts and not start. Ongoing issue for 3 months. Took it a Honda dealer who could not duplicate the problem. Told via internet it may be a main relay, coil or fuel pressure regulator. What's scary is Honda has no clue about this issue. All recalls (2) have been completed.

3 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2007

I have a 99 Honda Accord in which the engine stalled while driving. I didn't realize it until I tried to turn the wheel and realized that the steering wheel locked. It took several times to restart and took it to the mechanic. I thought it might be the alternator but the mechanic said no because the light would have come on. He said it was the ignition switch. Honda had a recall on these in 2003. I was never notified of the recall because Honda said my switch was not apart of the recall. I am having the same problems with my car stalling while driving as the switch with the recall. I called Honda to rectify the situation and to find out why they didn't notify me of the potential problem. I have two little girls who ride in this car which by the way is my only car and we could have gotten killed due to this manufacturing defect.

4 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2007

Check engine light came on. Had the dealer check for the code which came up as p1491, egr valve issue. There is documented recall/note for this major design defect part, but only for 8yr/80k miles. I called american Honda and asked for "good faith"/if they would pay for the repair. Am/Honda refused my request. My 99 Accord ex v6 has 130k miles. This is a known documented design flaw. Emission parts should last the life of the car. Had to shell out $300 for that repair. I have owned 7 other Honda's plus this car. This is the first time I have had this type of issue. American Honda needs to do better. I am seriously considering changing car brands, possibly switching to Toyota.

5 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2006

Alternator bracket cracked twice in one year.

6 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2005

1999 Honda Accord developed a problem with the alternator. The vehicle begun to lose power, braking and steering. There was no indication of a problem. The dashboard light was supposed to illuminate when the alternator was not charging the battery. The dealer refused to consider any compensation.

7 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2005

The bolt backed out of the pulley in the engine, resulting in ruined pulley/ bent the crank shaft/loss of power steering/ defective alternator, and air conditioning (a/c) failure. Dealership was surpride. Consumer, had to pay out of pocket for the new pulley.

8 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2004

The vehicles automatic transmission would slip between first and second gear. The interior lights were intermittent, the alternator was found faulty and made noises, and there was moaning coming from the engine area at times. The consumer requested reimbursement.

9 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2004

While driving altenator failed. No lights illuminated. The consumer stated that there should be a warning light when altenator stops charging. Vehicle had to be pushed off the roadway. The vehicle drove until the battery failed resulting in a sudden stop.

10 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2004

1999 Honda Accord ex coupe v6 (California) engine stalls immediately when blinker/signal lever is used, for left or right turn signal. When engine stalls, green "key" light flashes on dashboard. Otherwise, failure happens randomly. Failure has occurred both while driving at 60+ mph and while vehicle is stopped. At high speeds, engine stalls and then restarts in a few seconds. Has not occurred when engine was cold/not-warmed-up. Failure occurred about once a month at first, but in the last three months, averages about one failure a week. Failure started happening at around 70,000 miles. Car now has ~92,000 miles. Car has had one owner since purchased new. Car recieves regular scheduled maintenance. Car had complete tune-up (oil/filter,spark plugs, ignition cap & rotor, ignition wires, transmission fluid (Honda), air filter, fuel system cleaner, etc. . . ) after first failure. Alternator failed and was replaced many months after "stalling/blinker" failures first occurred, and had no apparent affect on stalling problem. Stalling still occurs, and have no idea what cause is.

11 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2003

I was driving my 1999 Honda Accord when my cd started skipping and then my abs dash light came on. I continued on the highway (a major interstate with heavy traffic) until my exit. When I slowed down at an approaching intersection, my car just died. Absolutely everything quit. . . Radio, ac,etc. . . Car flashers would not work, I was stranded in heavy traffic without any way to let approaching traffic know I had car trouble. Put my hood and trunk up and escaped my car. It was terrible. . . But would have been much worse if I had still been on I-285 which is a heavily trafficked artery around atlanta with multiple lanes and fast traffic. I got absolutely no warning that this would happen. . . No dash lights (I. E. Battery indicator light) came on to let me know that my alternator had died. That is why the car quit as I slowed at the intersection. . . The battery had been drained completely. I have had nightmares about what would have happened to me had I still been on the interstate or had this occurred at night, and I do not feel safe knowing that this could happen again since I travel that busy highway every day! I think this is a major electrical defect. My car was repaired at carey paul Honda in snellville GA and they assured me that I did not have an electrical problem. . . But, no indicator light came on at all! please investigate this. I will also contact Honda of America about this problem.

12 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2003

Driving down the road when the crankshaft pully fell out of the bottom of the engine, resulting in power steeering failure and engine died. The power steering went out, the altenator quit, the water pump quit. Luckily I could coast into a parking lot entrance to get off of the highway. The crankshaft bolt "crystalized" and broke off inside the crankshaft. The timing belt, crankshaft pully and bolt, and the water pump had to be replaced.

13 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2003

After owning the vehicle for two days it broke down on the highway. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the battery and the alternator. On another occasion, the vehicle broke down due to an alternator bolt breaking. It was replaced. On a third occasion, the serpentine belt failed. Currently, vehicle is at dealers shop again because it will not start.

14 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Defective alternator caused vehicle to lose power when driving. Vehicle was returned to dealer, but problem was not solved.
