36 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2011

I was driving at 30 miles per hour, first the maintenance blink then all warning lights blink and the engine shut off. I was able to switch to park and restart.

37 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2010

Driving car down the road and the engine shuts off.

38 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2010

While driving the vehicle, the engine just quits. There is no stuttering, stalling, or engine misfires, it quietly just quits. The radio, heater fan, brake lights still work but not the signal lights. Fortunately, I live in a semi-rural area so traffic did not present a problem but on a busy freeway or in heavy city traffic the consequences could be deadly. Imagine passing a car and all of a sudden, no engine!!!! this has happened over the last 6 months for us and sees to happen regularly on warmer days, but occurs either driving 70mph on the freeway or just turning the car into a parking spot. . 39 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2010

Vehicle shifts down while driving. . . . Had switch replaced and still stops while driving intermittently. The fix is the main relay under the dash. . . . $55 fix cost me $700 plus as Honda said it was the switch the egr and wanted to hook up electrical system. . . . . Only cost $55 for main relay and can easily pop in and out. . . C'mon Honda, driving and then car shutting down while driving>>>>>@#$%^&*(). . . . . . . Would love to see how Honda execs would feel if their family was in such a car and it happens with an 18 wheeler right behind you on the highway and you cant switch lanes as you cant accelerate as the engine is shut off!.

40 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2010

1999 Honda Accord - while driving the vehicle, the engine just quits. There is no stuttering, stalling, or engine misfires, it quietly just quits. It is so dangerous that you have no control over the steering and you are driving on 70 miles per hour on a highway. There are no indications that it will stall, with a truck right behind you, only god can save from the death situation.

41 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2010

Occasionally the car has died while driving on city streets or interstate. The tach drops immediately to zero and I think all or most of the dash lights come on like they would with the key in the start position. When I try to restart the car, it starts and runs for about one second then dies again. Sometimes, it will take four or more attempts before it will keep running like normal. It does this when the car is cold or hot and has done this in intersections. There was a recall for this problem (NHTSA no. 02v120000) for 1999 Honda Accords, but Honda says my VIN was not included, therefore I am not covered.

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2010

My Honda1999 barley has 79,000 on it, im second owner. I bought it when it had only 37,000 mil. On it. The car is already having transmission problems. It jerks when driving and coming to a stop, like a pop jerky feel. My cooling system had problem in 2010 oil going into my radiator. And know I have electrical problem. The car at times would go off. 79,000 I cant believe it. You would think this my car was a Ford with their older modules. Known to have engine problems after 70,000. This is crazy. I have all papers from first owner, never realized till reaching the chaos of my engine. That my car as well was a recall. I have the documents.

43 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2009

While approaching a stop light at north loop 1604 west on 9/26/09, the engine stalled without warning. I had to sit there in the middle of the street and struggle to get it started again and hope no one came behind me. While driving on university campus, the engine stalled out of the blue. It happens about 6 times per day while driving the vehicle on busy city streets. The consequences are extreme stress and fear for mine and others' safety because I don't know when this vehicle will just stop on me. This exact issue is described in NHTSA campaign id number: 02v120000. I called Honda and was told by on operator that there is no such issue with the 1999 Honda Accord and there was only one recall on this particular vehicle, yet I found over 15 recalls on the 1999 Honda Accord by searching the NHTSA website. While it may be true that not all of those recalls may apply to the 1999 Honda Accord that I drive, NHTSA campaign id number: 02v120000 is exactly what is happening to my car when I am driving it.

44 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2009

I am the owner of a 99 Honda Accord coupe and have been having trouble with my car failing to start in certain types of weather and the longer I've had the car the more the problem has progressed and it is now stalling while I'm driving down the road, including yesterday when I had my 4 month old daughter in the car. If someone had been following too closely who knows the damage that could have been done. Multiple mechanics have looked at it and cannot find anything wrong. I have been on Honda's website and found that there are recalls and mine have been fixed long before I bought the car the only problem is I am still having the problems I've contacted Honda and they seem to be very unwilling to help me further and so I am stuck at this point with a vehicle I'm afraid to drive because I'd be putting myself, my daughter and others on the road in danger. I've recently found the website car complaints. Com and under electrical complaints I was baffled at how many people are having the same problems even after their recall had been taken care of also, and that was only one website. I do not have the money to take jabs in the dark replacing parts that don't need replaced especially after I've had to pay to have it towed twice now (not cheap). I should not have to wonder whether or not a car that is in great condition and under 100,000 miles is going to start or not. I hope this complaint will move someone to do something because I have not been able to receive help from anyone else. I feel that this case should be reopened and something should be done to make Honda responsible before someone is seriously injured.

45 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2009

1999 Honda Accord ex car stalls randomly.

46 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2009

Engine stops while driving highway speed, leading up to the problem I will have problems getting the car started, car will start, then lights in the dash will flash and then the car will cut off, even when in drive. The problem is very consistent and not reliable and dangerous.

47 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2008

While driving on a city street at any speed my car may stall without warning. Sometimes it occurs during a turn, other times while driving at 30-45 mph. It then will take a couple of attempts to restart. This has occurred 5 times in the last year.

48 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2008

Main relay problems I recently purchased a 99 Honda Accord le coupe - 6 cylinder automatic. Once I got the car home I found that the car had a starting problem. Early morning when the temperature was cool the car would start fine. After sitting in the sun all day while at work the car would fail to start. Opening the doors and letting the interior heat drop would allow the vehicle to start. With no satisfaction from the dealer other than looking at me like I was crazy I searched the internet for Honda hard starting problem. . . I found a website that gave the same problem that I was having and directed to how to repair the main relay. I followed the directions as they explained and re-soldered 5 connections on the printed circuit of the main relay. . . Since that time the Honda will start in any type of weather. Just seems odd after searching the forums and the amount of people that have had the same problems that I was having and nobody has seemed to know what it was. . . Some searching turned up a problem resolve. . . Now you mean to tell me that im not the only one having the problem and Honda service centers tell me that they have never heard of a problem like mine. . . . Don't get me wrong I love the Accord and can live with some of the problems but as a customer I expect that Honda would at least acknowledge that there is a problem and by the description they should be able to tell me what they think it is and how much it would cost to repair the vehicle. . . . I'm not chasing a recall. . . I simply want my car to start when I turn the key. . .

49 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2008

I have a 1999 Honda Accord lx with a 4 cylinder vtec engine. 1-12-08 while driving at lower speeds--typically 30 to 45 mph the car will jerk and change gears when not needed. At highway speeds the car stalls and I have to shift to neutral to restart. Update: may 2008 and I have no reverse gear at all. After reading all the complaints I would really like to know why Honda has not put a recall on these 1998 and 1999 transmissions. Why? does someone really have to die before they fix their own problem? I am calling Honda in the morning and if I don't get satisfactory results I would like to start a negative campaign against Honda. This is crazy and I want answers.

52 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2007

Engine shuts down while driving. This seems always to occur within a minute or so after the anti-lock braking system light comes on. Otherwise I have no way to predict when it will happen, and it has occurred in a variety of traffic conditions including while driving at high speed on express or freeway lanes. I have taken the vehicle to the dealer three times with this complaint and they deny that anything is wrong or that they can fix it. The incident date reported here is only the most recent occurrence.
