Honda Accord owners have reported 109 problems related to cruise control (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Honda Accord based on all problems reported for the Accord.
Monday September 24th, 2018, I was traveling on u. S. Highway 19 and a vehicle turned off about a half mile ahead of me while I had the cruise control engaged. The vehicle had completely cleared the road and my car slammed on brakes causing everything in the vehicle to be thrown into the floorboard. Had there been a car behind me, the car would have rear-ended my vehicle. There continues to be an issue where the sensor recognizes something in the road that is not there or a vehicle that has already cleared the road and slams on brakes. This creates a serious safety issue and is damaging on the brakes. I do not feel safe driving with this system engaged because I do not know when the vehicle will slam on brakes causing other drivers to rear-end me.

Collision mitigation breaking system fails during operation of adaptive cruise control. The vehicle will no longer verify if a collision is going to happen, and can cause the vehicle to collide with a forward vehicle.
I have had several occurrences of a warning that states "collision mitigation braking system problem. Please see your dealer. " this error message will pop up randomly with no pattern while using the advanced cruise control function on my vehicle. While this error is present I am not able to use any kind of cruise control settings. I was have seen my local Honda dealer about this issue multiple times and have been given many horrible solutions. I have been told to just pull the vehicle over and restart it to clear the errors out. I have also been told by my local dealership that the camera is just dirty and that I need to carry a bottle of water and a rag to wipe off the windshield anytime it happens. I have tried both of these solutions several times and neither has worked. In fact every time I attempt to turn off and restart my vehicle I have eight other safety system failure messages that populate.
Tl the contact owns a 2018 Honda Accord. While driving 70 mph with the adaptive cruise control function engaged, the vehicle decelerated. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times. The contact stated that the instrument cluster blacked out on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to zimbrick Honda (located at 1601 w beltline hwy, madison, WI 53713, (608) 273-2555) to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code or duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 2,000.
I have a 2018 Honda Accord 2. 0t touring. I have numerous incidents where the collision mitigation braking system has gone out giving an amber dash warning to see the dealer. This has happened 6 times all when the adaptive cruise control was engaged. It also disabled the cruse control. All 6 times I was driving on the interstate. The road was flat and straight and it was a clear sunny day with no other car in the vicinity . The radar unit and camera were free of bugs. Most times, upon shutting off the car and restarting everything returns to normal. However, one time upon restarting the car the phone ,radio navigation, adaptive cruse control, cruse control and collision mitigation braking system would not come back and I had to take the car to the dealer. This car was taken to Honda of el cajon, CA on 4/21/18 and chapman Honda, az on 7/31/18 and 7/3/19. No problem was found all 3 times.
Three times during the first 1500 miles the collision mitigation braking system has failed, disabling that feature and adaptive cruise control, displaying a large diagnostic on the electronic dashboard and telling me to see my dealer. In all cases I was driving in normal traffic on northern California freeways at cruising speed (twice on 101, once on 80). The first two failures occurred during daytime, the third at night. The weather in all cases was normal (no rain, snow, mud, . . . ) . When I visited the dealer after the first two occurrences (when the car is turned off and then back on the condition clears) the dealer found no diagnostic codes or other problems. Then the problem occurred a third time. The dealer and Honda corporate say they have no idea how to fix it because of the absence of diagnostic codes.
-the switch that control the side mirrors no longer work -the key fob no longer work when locking and unlocking the vehicle. -the bumper is detaching; zip ties are currently being used to hold the bumper in place. The fender lining detached while the vehicle was in motion on the interstate. -cruise control no longer work -.

I was driving on the highway. The cruise control button was on but I was not using the cruise control. Haven't used it in a couple weeks but the button was showing on the dash. I took my foot of the gas petal to slow down and the car began accelerating. First I tried to apply the brake and that slowed the car down considerable but I I could tel it was still trying to accelerate and I didn't want to wear out the brakes and have no way of stopping so I took my foot off the brake and tried jiggling the gas with my foot thinking it was stuck or blocked and it wasn't. It felt like how the gas pedal feels when it's in cruise control just kind of jiggling as you press it. So I turned the cruise control button off did and it was still accelerating so I put th car in neutral it revved up to a very high rpm can't remember exactly what but it sounds like it was full throttle did that for about 2-3 seconds while I braked and slowed the car down then it stopped revving and after I stopped for s couple minutes I drove again and it was fine the rest of the day. I was going about 65 when it got stuck and it got up to high 70s before I applied the brake and got it down to 60 then it began accelerating again and got up to like 70 before I put it in neutral. If someone else was driving and didn't think to put the car in neutral it could have been much more serious.

The contact owned a 2009 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 17v030000 (air bags), 09e063000 (equipment), and 16v056000 (air bags). While driving 70 mph with the cruise control activated, the driver's side and curtain air bags deployed without impact or warning. The front passenger side air bag failed to deploy, causing extensive injuries to the front passenger. In addition, the brake pedal failed to function when applying force to stop the vehicle. The vehicle crashed into a tree. The driver sustained head, neck, and back pains. The front passenger sustained extensive bruising, pain to the head and back, and injuries to the left arm, collar bone, and sternum. Both occupants required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was inspected by the insurance company and deemed the vehicle destroyed. The dealer (mungenast st. Louis Honda, 5939 s lindbergh blvd, st. Louis, mo 63123, (314) 894-1330) was notified. The contact provided the dtc to the dealer. The dealer was uncertain as to which recall may have been associated with the failure or if a different failure happened that was not related to the open recalls on the vehicle. The contact was waiting on instructions from the manufacturer. The contact notified the manufacturer and was waiting on a response to determine the cause of the air bag and cruise control failures. The approximate failure mileage was 151,000. Parts distribution disconnect. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

The contact owns a 2009 Honda Accord. While driving 65 mph with the cruise control activated, the vehicle accelerated when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact had to place the gear into neutral and depress the brake pedal in order for the brakes to operate. In addition, while the vehicle was in park, the engine continue to accelerate. The contact had to turn the engine off twice in order to resume driving. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 160,631.
The contact owns a 2004 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, the srs air bag warning light started blinking off and on. The contact related the failure to having had the driver's side air bag replaced under NHTSA campaign number: 15v320000 (air bags). The contact stated that the air bag warning light remained illuminated continually. Additionally, the contact stated that the horn, cruise control, and the passenger’s side air bag sensor had also failed to operate as needed. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 405,000.

While overtaking a large truck (semi), in the fast lane of a four lane divided highway, the adaptive cruise control flashed a warning and automatically applied heavy braking as my vehicle was even with the rear of the semi trailer. This caused the vehicle behind me to nearly rear-end my car. This has happened several times over the past year, and seems to be more frequent lately. I am nervous about using the acc when approaching or passing a large semi tractor trailer. I have seen other comments regarding the same situation posted on the internet. I believe this is a serious safety issue, and should be investigated.

Friday, March 25th I accelerated quickly into a left turn from a dead stop at church street and rt 20 in northborough, MA and the accelerator stuck in the full throttle position. I took my foot off the throttle and applied breaks heavily but the engine continued to rev, I reached down to turn the key and kill the engine but before I was able to do that there was a large clunking noise and the throttle released to idle. A similar issue happened today as I entered the highway (190 south) at the 140 south intersection. The highway entrance and both lanes were empty so I stomped on the accelerator to see if Friday's issue was a fluke - the throttle stuck again. I tapped the breaks but nothing happened. This time I was able to watch the tachometer rev up to 5,000 rpms and it released on its own. In both situations the cruise control button was on but not engaged.
I was the driver, enclosed is the passenger eye witness account. Sudden uncommanded acceleration incident VIN 1hgcs 12869a011349 Nov. 5, 2015 us rt 12 just north of illinois / wisconsin border. Northbound lanes enroute to lake geneva. November 5 20115 9:15 a. M. Weather clear and dry. Cruise control is not on or engaged. Normal driving until we make a lane change and driver says, ¿the car is taking off on me. ¿ I look over at the steering wheel assuming she means we are sliding. She then tells me she can¿t stop the car. At this point I realize we are accelerating (estimating speed 80 mph). I look at the floor to see where denise¿s feet are placed. Both feet are on the brake pedal and she is nearly out of her seat from pressing hard. Both of her hands are on the steering wheel. She directs me to place the car in neutral. I comply but do not sense any affect. Driver tells me there was no change and we are not decelerating. In fact the car continues to accelerate. I direct her to aim the car for the right shoulder and I would turn the ignition off. We successfully exit the roadway and come to a stop. The brakes are severely overheated and the engine is emitting strong odor of hot metal. We sit for two minutes or more attempting to make sense of what just happened. I try an engine start and engine immediately goes to red line rpm. I immediately shut down engine.
Adaptive cruise control applied hard braking while vehicle traveling at 70 mph with no vehicle in front of the reported malfunctioning vehicle. Braking was severe enough to propel occupants against seat belts and caused the vehicle to veer to the left with the potential to cause a rear end collission.

The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. While driving approximately 55 mph with the cruise control activated, the cruise control would not deactivate and the vehicle would not slow down or stop when the brakes were applied. The vehicle proceeded through a red light and crashed into two other vehicles. A police report was filed and there were no injuries reported. Prior to activating the cruise control, the brakes operated normally. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 15,000.
On a drive last Friday week (7/25/2014) from chicago to oklahoma city, I experienced a very frightening scenario. About 2 miles out from st louis with the cruise control on and the car at 65 miles/hr in the middle lane of traffic, I applied the brake to slow down. To my horror applying the brake did not slow the car down & the car continued to want to stay at the original speed. After pressing down harder on the brake pedal my next instinct was to put the car in neutral ¿ which while slowing the car down somewhat then resulted in the engine revs going to somewhere around 6000rpm & rising¦and so obviously not a good solution. I then put the car back into drive & tried further very heavy pressure to the brakes at the same time as pressing the cancel button on the steering wheel. Eventually ¿ with both feet now on the break pedal pressing with as much force as I could - I was able to slow the car down enough to change lanes & move to the side of the road ¿- where the engine still wanted to rev uncontrollably but this could be fixed by turning off the ignition switch. After some minutes had elapsed I had enough confidence to turn the car back on and ¿ as everything else appeared to be normal ¿ proceed slowly ¿ taking care not to engage the cruise control. A few miles later the car still seemed to be performing normally otherwise and so we decided to continue on our journey. The car was then turned into the Honda dealer to fix the issue. His diagnosis was that the brake switch had failed. This was replaced - but when I finally had enough confidence to test the cruise control out on an open stretch of road on the return journey to chicago, it was no longer functional - so until I resubmit the car to a local dealer (which I will do in the next couple of days) I am unsure if this was the only issue with the cruise control that had gone wrong.
I was driving on interstate 20/59 near ft. Payne, alabama with the cruise control set on 75 mph. I changed lanes to pass a slower car but did not touch the gas pedal. The car started to accelerate on its own. I tapped the breaks to turn cruise control off but the car continued to accelerate without touching the gas pedal. The acceleration was not a full throttle acceleration, just a moderate increase. I then shifted the car from drive to neutral and the rpm's jumped up to redline, again without touching the gas pedal. Luckily, a rest area was approaching and I managed to pull the car into the rest area parking lot playing with the drive/neutral of the transmission and using the brakes. Once I made it to a parking space I turned the car off and shifted it into park. I waited a few seconds and turned the car back on. The rpm's again jumped up to redline without me touching the gas pedal. I shut the car off again and put my foot underneath the gas pedal and pulled up. I cranked the car again and it acted normal. I checked under the hood and everything looked fine. After some deliberation, we decided to continue on our trip and the car was fine for the next 4. 5 hours. We drove back Sunday, may 19 and the car again drove fine for 6. 5 hours and hasn't had a problem since. The morning before the incident, I changed the alternator and oil. I strongly believe that this had nothing to do with the alternator or oil change. Also, I doubled checked the carpet mat in the car and it was not even close to the gas pedal. I am not sure if anyone else has experienced this problem with a Honda Accord. I am a mechanical engineer and I am dumbfounded by this. Being in a car with uncontrollable acceleration is quite unnerving.
I have noticed this problem for the past 2+ winters on my car. The first time it happened, I was going home from work on a cold winter night. I got the freeway and accelerated to 55 mph. I then set the cruise control (as I normally do in light traffic). I noticed that the car's engine was still revving a lot more than it should. I looked down and noticed that I was doing 70 mph. I immediately stepped on the brake to deactivate the cruise control. I continued to notice this issue all winter. I set the cruise at 40 mph and noticed that it went up by about 20 mph above the setting before it finally stopped accelerating and settled back to the cruise set speed (or close to it). In the warm weather this problem disappears.

That was on Monday 12/31/2012 while traffic in freeway was very clear. I set cruise control at 60 mile/hour but suddenly the car kept increasing faster more than 75 miles. I was panic and kept stepping brake to reduce speed. About one minute, the car was reduced at speed of 50 miles/hour. I tested it without cruise control. I drove steadily about 60 mile/hour about 10 minutes that the car started accelerated by itself again and hit 75 miles/hour. I kept stepping brake steadily to reduce speed until it kicking into 50 mile/hr. This car is definitely defective car with numerous issues. Its defrost system does not function at all that almost killed me on September 2012. Again I brought it to dealer on 01/02/2013 for accelerated issue and defrost system but Honda power dealer still could not detect it. I filed complaint with ftc and district attorney/prosecute unit to request to investigate about this issue. I contacted to Honda motor to request it to take this car back and terminate my lease but Honda motor refused my request because Honda motor used test results from power Honda dealer and Honda world dealer as Honda motor 's decision found that there were not any defective with defrost system and accelerate found. Honda motor made this car and failed to detect its problems that is no matter it can detect this car problem or not that Honda has to hold accountability to lease it to me. Was stopped with car in gear front collision warning problem and adaptive cruise control problem warnings come on in the dash it also happened today in a drive thru at coffee shop this morning.
I started having problems with the vehicle feeling like it was sticking in a high gear around 2900 miles. On hilly roads, typically, the vehicle revs high and does not want to deccelerate when trying to brake. It feels as though the transmission is stuck in gear. It will attempt to accelerate as well. It has acclerated on me and has hit close to 5/6 rpms while trying to maintain my speed on hilly, windy, rural roads. It has done this once on the highway as well. It almost seems as if it in cruise control and trying to get back up to a higher speed. I took the vehicle to the dealer and they were unable to find any issue. The problem has continued, and I am now at 9200 miles. It is an intermittent issue, however, so it is hard to know when to bring it back to dealer just to be told they cannot duplicate it. This occurs approximately 2 times a week. It is scary as I have two young children.
I have an 05 Honda Accord coupe. Neither window will roll down, had the relay switch replaced but 6 months later back to the same problem. Radio would go on and off, even when car was off. Now the radio will not come on at all unless I unplug/plug the battery, then the result is only temporary. Now the cruise control button will not work. If I push it down the green indicator light comes on but the button will not stay engaged. I've seen so many of the same complaints I was sure there was a recall I missed but there isn't??!!.

Acceleration with uncommanded cruise control.
Sudden acceleration: while backing up in an enclosed parking garage, I started the car, put my foot on the brake and placed the gear in reverse. I began applying pressure to the gas pedal, and the car began moving back slowly. All of a sudden the car took off like a shot. I hit the brake, but nothing happened. Fortunately, I was able to guide the car into a column in the garage rather than other cars or a person. I have driven the car for 7 years, so I certainly know where the break and the accelerator are. My car is a v6 with cruise control and remote start. There was no obstruction to either pedal in the interior of the car. $4,000 damages to fender, bumper, rear light, and trunk. If anyone had been behind my car, they would have been seriously injured or killed.
