2003 Honda Accord ex sedan with 4 cylinder. Car has developed high idle 1800 rpm when cold. Car will accelerate (actually jumps) to 20 mph with foot off the accelerator. Takes over +5 minutes before it reduces to a normal idle (approximately 2 miles worth of driving). This is a really dangerous situation. Also experiencing the rotten egg smell entering into the drivers compartment. The air conditioner (a/c) has a serious vibration when coming on that has had several passengers ask me what the noise and vibration were. It's a shame since I have been to the dealer 3 times for these problems and came away with them making me feel guilty and that I'm the only one with these problem. I guess I'm glad that sites like this exist. . . Thanks.

I purchased a new 2003 Honda Accord in July 2003. It has a terrible starting problem. My dealership has checked it out three times and still no resolution has been made. I believe Honda should address the problem promptly because I am not the only one who is having this problem.
Intermittent long crank starting problem. Happened average of 4 times a week.
I have just traded my 2001 Honda Accord lx manual transmission VIN#1hgcg55491a028586 because of a severe idling problem. The car had only 12,000 miles and had had all the routine maintenance performed as recommended by Honda. It was still under warranty. I have owned a Honda for over 20 years and have driven a stick shift for almost 20 years. I am very well aware of the placement of the pedals. Also, the floor mat was attached to its pin near the front of the seat so it did not impede my use of the pedals. I had the idle go absolutely nuts, almost red line, after having parked the car for a short period of time and then restarting the car. This happened 3 times over about 6 months. The first two times, the car lurched forward. Luckily, no one or any property was damaged. I had both crown Honda of chapel hill, nc and flow Honda of winston-salem, nc check the car out. In fact, flow had the car 3 weeks after the 3rd incident. Neither dealer said they found a problem with the car. I was afraid to drive this car although I never had a problem with it when I was actually driving the car. My concern is that this car will be sold to someone who will not be told of the problem I have experienced. I feel this car is dangerous and someone may have an accident. I have also contacted Honda corporate. I hope you will look into this problem. I have researched the internet to find if anyone else has had this problem. I have not been successful. Honda says they have never had this problem. I do not know if this is an easy or hard fix. I do believe this car has a major problem. Thank you.

The front balancer shaft seal blew and oil gushed out of the engine in less than ten minutes. My wiife and I had just made it off the interstate when we noticed the smell of oil. Upon parking, we saw oil pouring out of engine. No warning lights were on and no smoke came from the engine. I was told by mechanic that the seal is defective but Honda doesn't have a full recall and will only fix the seal when it blows which could cause permanent engine damage if the engine is not stopped immediately. I've done research on this problem and others have this same problem in the us. It seems the seal is definetly deffective, but Honda won't repair it until the problem happens. Of course, I was not notified of the problem until the seal blew. I was informed by Honda America that I just missed their reimbursement deadline (January 1, 2003) because my seal blew on January 24, 2003. I think Honda should continue to pay for this faulty seal repair since it is a defect they allowed in their vehicles.
The crank bolt to the engine broke off.

I have had my car for 10 months with repeated trips to the dealer and numerous calls to the point of purchase, with no results, I have been given the run-a-round to many times to count. I have a 1996 Honda Accord and it has a head gasket problem and the engine is having to be rebuilt. The head gasket and engine are badly water damaged and warped, and it is costing me in excess of $2,400. 00 to get it repaired. I was told that repairs were made to my car but never received a work order proving that said work was actually done. I am trying to seek protection under the lemon law so any help you can give me in that effort would be greatly appreciated!.

Defective balancer shaft seal broke loose, causing an engine replacement because of immediate oil loss w/no warning indicators. Just had oil change and transmission oil flush a month ago. Honda needs to reimburse costs of total repair due to defective item. Never received recall notice either.

Camshaft failure.
Experiencing a thump as the ingition is released from the start position or as the engine starts. This noise occurs only on a cold start, usually overnight. Dealer mechanic tells me that the noise appears to be coming from the rear motor mount. Honda has issued a service bulletin pertaining to this noise, but the dealer mechanic tells me that hnnda's service engineers tells him that the service bulletin pertains to the Honda 4cyl only, and not the 6cyl it seems to me that the service bulletin issued for the 2000 Honda 4cyl. Should also cover the 2000 Honda 6cyl. In closing I might add that this same type noise has also been heard in the Honda 2001 6cyl. Thank you for your help.
