Nhtsa# 10016310. . . 2004 Honda Accord 2. 4l coupe. A water leak in the middle-front dash board. The leak had run into the ecu of my car and caused my car to lock the transmission. I was lucky to not be traveling at a high rate of speed and in a populated area. Anything could have happened with the ecu shorting in water. My car is currently in the Honda shop being trouble shot for the extent of electrical damage. Car will not start.

39 Structure problem of the 2000 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/07/2008

There are 2 recalls on my year, make & model that I am experiencing. However, Honda claims my VIN is not included in the recall. I find it very odd that I could be experiencing both of the recalls, but my car is excluded. I also have seen several complaints all over the internet about the clearcoat on '98-'02 Honda's peeling. Honda is not accepting responsibility for the defective clearcoat.

40 Structure problem of the 2005 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/02/2008

I have owned a 2005 Honda Accord since sept. 2005. Both of the car key casements have broken without abuse during this time. Now that may seem trivial, but they do so without warning due to extremely bad design/engineering. They seem to have been designed to fail. To replace them I have been told that each key would cost $67 and the programming another $88. Without the case being attached to the key, the ignition will not operate. If someone were somewhere in the country along way from civilization, what would one do? this is why I am complaining, and why this is a safety issue. The price for replacement is also outrageous.

41 Structure problem of the 2008 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 02/18/2008

Headlights, taillights, interior lights, radio fan motor all fade in and out when cooling fan comes on. This was in the shop for this today along with pealing paint, bad seat track, bad upholstery and damage that sloane Honda did to my car in philadelphia, PA. Someone is going to get killed in these new 08 Accords. Honda doesn't care. Murry cohen service manager at sloane threw me out of the service department, threatened to call the police and refused to give paperwork showing the car was there, but I have the rental agreement they signed for the day. They say all Hondas lights go in and out, this is my 4th and this is the only one that does it. Honda customer service is no help. Don't waste your breath calling. My email is if you have similar problems. I will complain to this site every day and you all should too. 24590 + tax and tags down the drain. I am getting a lemon lawyer and hope you all do to.

42 Structure problem of the 2007 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 11/02/2006

: the contact stated while driving 30 mph on normal road conditions, there was a loud popping sound from the front left side of the windshield. The sound also occurred when driving on rough roads. The sales/service dealer was notified and the vehicle was inspected. When the contact drove the vehicle again, the problem continued, so the vehicle was returned to the sales/service dealer. The sales/service dealer refused to provide a refund, replace the vehicle or to replace the seal to the windshield. The manufacturer was notified. The consumer found a service bulletin regarding improperly sealed windshields (molding problems) that cause popping/rattling noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but they claimed they could not hear the noise. The fuse box under the hood near the dashboard and in the interior of the car were tightened because they were loose. This affected the daytime running lights. The left front strut and the firewall were too close and were rubbing together. The gaskets were shrinking around the windshield which were causing the windshield vibrating problems. The windshield sprayer was clogged. The exhaust heat shields were loose. The front door window channels were lubricated and finally replaced because of the excessive rattling noise. The door jambs were irregular which added to the window rattling problem. Updated 01/10/08 .

43 Structure problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/16/2006

Took my car in for a regular oil change. Hours later I received a phone call from the service advisor asking me, if I had time so he could talk to me regarding my car. I said, yes and the service advisor from Honda dealership went on to tell me that I needed my transmission fluid changed, brake fluid changed, and my engine coolant changed. The total amount of cost came to $500. 29 which I thought I was being ripped off. The Honda service advisor also went on to tell me that I need to have my front struts replaced because they are bad. I noticed when I would make a right hand turn I would hear a squeaky noise. He confirmed that it was my front struts. I ask the service advisor how long does it normally take for struts to wear out he told me around 80,000-100,000 miles well my 2003 Honda Accord ex only have 48,000 miles on it. I'm assuming that I probably started off with bad struts in the beginning since I had my Honda Accord ex, I have had nothing but problems. Now, that my car is out of warranty I'm hit with a huge fee to get struts replaced on a car which I think was bad in the first place. My Honda Accord ex was originally purchased by me in December of 2002. I have been the only driver of the car. At this time I would never purchase another Honda Accord. I used to have an 2000 Honda Accord ex never had a problem. Since I have had this car there have been recalls on my car. I have had problems with the door latches, inside panel on passenger side coming off. Sunroof rubber coming unglued. I had to have the windshield replaced bad wipers which scratched the windshield up. New radio system. Trouble with the lights for the heated seats, dash board lights went out. Radio lights went out. I was sold a complete lemon. I believe Honda should look into my maintenance record and see all the problems I have had with this car and really consider replacing the struts for me. I do not have an extended warranty it's going to cost me $700.

44 Structure problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/30/2006

This is a factory clearcoat failure. 2004 Honda Accord exl, red. Within two years, the clearcoat had started to peel. In the third year, I contacted the Honda main offices with my complaint. After having two insurance adjusters, a body shop, and an auto paint salesman look at the car and in every case, their opinion is that this failure is a factory defect. Honda repeatedly refuses to take that responsibility. The peeling clearcoat is spreading like a disease eating away at it.

45 Structure problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/01/2006

2004 Honda Accord exl with red paint. Clear coat began to peel in places all over the car. I contacted Honda and after several letters and phone calls back and forth, they are not willing to accept responsibility for a factory failure. Have had insurance adjusters, body shop, and an auto paint salesman examine the paint and all say this is something gone wrong at the factory. Honda keeps wanting to say I parked somewhere that "something" blew on the car all over such as crop dusters. The nearest crop duster is 150 miles away and the area where I live is lakes and mountains.

46 Structure problem of the 2006 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 01/28/2006

Water leaked into the trunk damaging some materials that were being stored in the trunk. After a trip to the dealership (third trip for various problems), the dealership returned the vehicle with an explanation that it did not leak water. I know the car did indeed leak water. I certainly would not be able to drive around with the trunk up and have clearance to see! I feel Honda repaired the leak and then returned it stating it did not leak. The particle board covering the tire is warped now. Since Honda claims it did not leak, there is nothing I can do.

Failure Date: 01/03/2006

The rubber gasket around my moonroof is rotting away. The car was purchased in August 2003 and I am the original owner. Due to high mileage, I am out of the original warranty. I was told by the Honda dealer in covington, louisiana that the gasket cannot be purchased separately, thus I will have to buy an entire sunroof assembly to cure the defect. This will cost in excess of $500. The gasket has never been damaged and the rot appears to be from normal weather conditions. The problem was first noticed about 6 months ago, I. Two front end alignments were performed and the tires were rotated. A technical service bulletin indicated that this problem occurred because the crate upon which the engine sits was not positioned correctly at the factory. The dealership positioned the crate correctly, but the problem recurred. The consumer noticed when he backed up the vehicle , a click would be heard as if the gear was not positioned correctly. The vehicle was pulling to the right. The consumer also felt something like a crate or tire axle would shift to one side. The consumer was told that was the way the vehicle was designed.

52 Structure problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/11/2004

My 2003 Accord ex v-6 has developed a loud popping or creaking sound from beneath the driver's side floor pan every time I accelerate, decelerate, or turn into a corner. The dealer told me it was normal when I first officially complained at 7,000 miles, but as time has passed, the noise has gotten worse. The dealer has attempted to fix it 5 times, but has not yet found a solution. With some research, I discovered a Honda service bulletin (03-058) that states body welds were improperly finished during the manufacturing process, and that the structure must be re-welded. My dealer told me there was "excess flex" in the body of my car, and as a result, multiple squeaks and rattles are developing. I believe this is a severe structural fault that is putting my safety at risk in the case of a crash and will continue to cause damage to my car due to body flex for years to come. I have requested that Honda replace the car.

Driver side window and windshield are creaking when driving over left side bumps. Car taken to dealer who claims this is normal body flex which is incorrect. 56 Structure problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

2003 Honda Accord coupe has developed loose windshield noises (pop and clicks) when suspension is flexed or challenged by road uneveness. The car only has 1000 miles on it and the cold weather brought out the noises. I consider this a serious structural defect and someone should investigate this. The car is not welded together well at all.

57 Structure problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/06/2003

(1) a. Window being scratched by something in panel. Both driver and passanger window. B. At about 16000 miles it was noticed that the transmission was leaking so badly I couldn't drive out of the dealership. ( I believe the car may have been leaking since purchase. New with only 36 miles. ) c. Trunk liner sagging. D. When making left hand turns if you have the sunvisor out it can swing and hit you in the head. E. Passenger door latch not activated. Could not open door from inside. (dealer forgot to install this on window repair. ) f. Motor mounts not installed correctly. G. Belt tensioner needed replacement. H. Car pulling to the right. F. Black seal around door frame warping. (2) no consequences from any of these failures. Except loss time having to leave car overnight for several days. Who know what longterm effects of a leaky transmission, belt tensioner, and improper motormounts have on the car. (3) under warranty the dealer corrected every problem. Mosts times more then one repair for the same problem was needed to correct the problem. For the tranmsission the dealer tried to stop the leaks with Hondabond. The next morning I had leaks in the drive way. They had my car for a whole week on the first fix attempt. Finally Honda replaced the transmission with a new one. Nothing was done about the visor because the dealer said if they install a new one it will do the same. My windows are still being scratched by the felt lining in the window panel.

59 Structure problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/09/2003

I purchased my Honda Accord lx v6 on August 9, 2003. After a week of driving, I noticed that the right corner near the dash board's generating a rattle noise whenever I go over an uneven road. I took it into the dealership and they said they can not figure it out. They believe it's the plastic rubbing against plastic. However, I don't think that's the case since it doesn't sound like rubbing noise and more like something is loose inside the ventilation or the airbag area ??? I also have a very annoying rattling sound coming out of the center radio area. Whenever I go over an rail tracks or really uneven roads, the rattle noise will start. I often had to push the plastic in a little bit just to make it stop for few second. It's getting to the point were it is unbearable !!! of course, when I took it into the dealership, they told me they couldn't generate that noise. Lastly, my front driver window and rear right side window is making a rattling noise. I think I see a lot of people on this site is stating something about a pillar clips ??? I wonder if that the cause of the window noises ??? anyways, I just want you to know that I am very disappointed at the quality of Honda and I especially hate when I have dealership service manager telling me if I turn my music loud enough, I will not hear the noise. You tell me, is that a good answer for you if it is your car that is having these kind of problems ???!!! p. S. I have always owned a Honda. However, since I can no longer believe in the quality of Honda vehicles, this will be my last Honda I will ever buy in my life.

Dealer has been unable to fix as of now and now car is smelling like mold. Concerned about mold now that it smells. Techs at dealer have not been able to fix. Honda motor corp. 63 Structure problem of the 2001 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/30/2002

The paint on my new Honda with paint protection, literally started to blister and "ulcer" down to the primer level within 10 months of purchase. None of the other cars, parked in the same area, are suffering the same damage. I have had two auto body restorers look at it, as the damage has spread on the hood, and has started on the driver's side door. In one case, the ulceration has gone down to the base metal. Honda and the dealership, ourisman Honda, have refused to help, blame "superbirds," ignore the professional opinions of the restorers, and have refused to honor both the Honda and paint protection warranties. The auto restorers believe the defect is with the prep or the paint itself, and that other Honda owners may be suffering from the same problem. The entire care has to be repainted at an estimated cost of $3500.
