1 Timing Tensioner problem of the 2008 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 10/13/2019

While driving tensioner bolt broke leave vehicle without power steering or any power except for the battery until that died. It has happened twice in two years and I don't see a recall on this issue.

2 Timing Tensioner problem of the 2017 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/28/2019

Passenger side day time running light stopped working approx 50k miles went to bigisland Honda the parts department representative quoted me $2k $1500 for the light and $500 to install than soon after idler tensioner started making a weird grinding noise went online to research these 2 problems and both are very common problems with these model Honda Accords other than these problems this is a great car but I don't know if I'll ever buy a Honda Accord again basically left stranded with no help from the bigisland Honda the dealership I bought it from. They basically told me I'm sorry it's way out of the warranty mileage and there's nothing they can do. I googled to see how much people has the same issue it's literally thousands of people with Honda Accords. Honda should step up there game or there going to loose a lot of customers over the next upcoming years. Honda of America please put a recall and fix these issues before it turns into a epidemic thanks.

3 Timing Tensioner problem of the 2014 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/20/2019

This just out of warranty vehicle has had some odd problems, some that made the car unsafe to drive, 1) ac compressor clutch melted onto compressor. Fixed under warranty. 2) timing belt tensioner leaked fluid, fixed under warranty. 3) dealer diagnosed abs module fault. An intermittent failure. Car was out of warranty. This problem caused every other electronic safety system in the car to intermittently fail. Opened a case with american Honda who denied any responsibility for the problem. These units fail rarely and should last the life of the vehicle. The part (36,000 mile 3-yr warranty) was even back ordered from the manufacturer. For example, only 1 unit was replaced in atlanta, GA since 2014, they wanted almost $1,600 to fix the issue. Took it to another specialist who fixed it for under $600 by finding a used part. I think Honda should have been more accommodating and concerned. This problem caused the abs, ldw, fcw, and traction control systems to eventually fail. Literally, I was lucky that I didn't get in a bad accident as the abs was actually functioning (the day a car turned left in front of me) and saved me from skidding into and t-boning another car. But all these odd issues just leaves me wondering. . . When's the next weird problem going to pop up?.

4 Timing Tensioner problem of the 2008 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/25/2016

The cold start generates the grinding sound from vtc actuator. The result of vtc actuator complete mechanical failure is catastrophic. The valves from the intake of either cylinder 2&3 or 1&4 will result in a tensioner to fail and a fantastic collision of the valve with the piston. Honda should issue a recall as this is a part defect. The newly redesigned vtc accturator was released but Honda America only replace this for certain customer as case by case.

5 Timing Tensioner problem of the 2013 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/03/2016

2013 Accord sport is starting to have a starting problem. Sometimes engine does not turn over when first turning the key. And from what I have read on this site it sounds like it is progressively going to get to the point of having to replace the starter. Not happy. I was hoping on having a reliable car when I bought this car however I have had multiple issues two being major but thank god it was under warranty. One being transmission replacement at around 8,000 miles and the timing belt/tensioner issues.

7 Timing Tensioner problem of the 2008 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 11/27/2012

Noticed vehicle using excessive oil. Needed 3. 25 quarts within 4,000 miles. Engine noise on cold start up. Honda dealership confirmed and said a computer update is required to resolve oil consumption and a defective vtc actuator, timing chain, and tensioner with updated parts are required to resolve engine noise. $1125. 00 for repairs. Dealership acknowledged frequent issues with the defective original vtc actuator.

8 Timing Tensioner problem of the 2007 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

I was driving & notice my car was driving a little bit sluggish & kept on getting worse, so I took it in to the dealer they had my car for a week & told me that both cat. Converters had to be replaced, the cause: tensioner leaking & mounts broken, so I paid for work, got my car back but it seemed like they didnâ??t even touch my car because it was driving the same way it was the day I took it to be fixed, I had call the dealer told them & they told me to continue driving & it should go back to normal again, it wasnâ??t even a week later & not only was car losing power while driving, I heard a loud pop noise come from the engine & then car came to a complete stop, also car was leaking oil at the bottom all over the road, had to find away to get it off the road (traffic was busy), when I got it back to the dealer again, they were giving me the run around they had my car for 4 months, & didnâ??t even offer me no means of transportation, I had to pay for the work they done $2000 (powertrain warranty should of covered) the day I got it back the engine was making a ticking noise, so I call them to see if thatâ??s normal, they told me, yes, that it just needed to be broken in, they had replace short block and the some internal parts, since they made think I could trust they're work they did & gave me their word & didnâ??t want to be months with out a car I continue to drive it, constantly having to change oil or add more, now its been a little bit over a year & the ticking noise never went away & things kept getting worse, so I finally took it back in to dealer they have had it for 2weeks now and haven't done anything to my car, not even the recall that was on my car, they called me yesterday telling me that I would have to pay for a whole new engine due to internal damage, due to the work that they had done in the past.

9 Timing Tensioner problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 10/25/2010

Noticed major oil consumption on more than one occasion. Called Honda tech and they told me to basically get rid of the car. When low on oil alot it controls the tensioner for the timing chain. Well now our 2003 Honda Accord lx 2. 4 is pretty much blown and wont stay running. We checked online and there are tons of complaints regarding this issue that should not be happening. It is a safety issue because if the car stalls and on highway or turning into traffic we could get hit. All people have stated Honda will not do anything about it. Something is up if tons of people are having the same problem. We want Honda to do something about this issue and compensate us something. This is ridiculous. For other people who notice oil consumption look for it to start tripping sensors due to timing issues it causes to go wrong. I drove to north carolina last year and the oil light came on and when checked it the oil was almost bone dry. Now come on. There are no leaks or anything so it is a defect change over year for Honda and they need to honor their product! just because there were no fire or damages or personal injury does not mean there will not be if people drive and don't know what's going on.

10 Timing Tensioner problem of the 2001 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 06/16/2001

The cam chain tensioner has failed twice and is scheduled to be worked on a third time. No accident (thankfully) has happened yet. The mechanic at the shop says it is very possible for the cam chain to 'jump time'. If this were to happen at say 55mph the rear tire of the motorcycle would probably lock up and therefore cause serious injury to the rider. I have spoken to numerous owners of this motorcycle and there seems to be several people with this same problem. Honda need to address this issue before someone is seriously injured because of an apparent design flaw.
