1 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2003 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

I was driving on 695 west high way baltimore, maryland on June 1st in the afternoon as usual, all of sudden my car was out of control. I was trying to slow down the speed a bit, however my break was hardly to push down. I felt like something got stuck there. At the meantime, the accelerator seems not stop while I was pushing down the break, on the opposite it was increasing the speed. . . In general, the speed was slowing down but it was super slow. I could tell my car was in a super bad situation. I was very lucky that there weren't lot of cars near to me, I immediately turned on the emergency light and turned my car to the emergency lane. I finally made car reducing the speed to 20 mph while my car was in the emergency lane, but it was still moving that I had to make a emergency break and turned my car off. It was a horrible driving experience I never ever had. I sent my to the repair store, the result is the main problem of my car is the accelerator got stuck that effected the break couldn't slow down the speed, also my break had some issues too. I spent $1,699. 00 to get my car fixed in the end. I think this problem shouldn't happen to any cars, its very dangerous and it will be a big possible to cause the car accident. I think Honda has to take a big responsibility of this incident, and to make sure all of Honda cars won't have this terrible issue.

2 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2010 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/13/2013

I was parked in shopping center. I came out of cvs pharmacy and carefully backed my car out. I began a left turn lane (still in shopping center) not into main road and suddenly the car's speed escalated rapidly and I could not stop it - it jumped the curb and in trying to avoid hitting shops car crashed headlong into light pole. It would appear that the gas accelerator was stuck. The airbag came on and I was injured by that. The front end of auto was badly damaged. This is a Honda Civic 2010 and there was a crash and one person injured (me) which when I print this your form reverts to original form.

3 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/22/2009

I had an incident with my 2008 Honda Civic. I was pulling into the church parking lot and turned to park in the grass next to another vehicle when I lost the steering and then suddenly the car jumped forward out of control and crashed into a tree about 10 ft in front of me. I thought the gas pedal had stuck but the adjustor was not able to confirm that this was the case. I never put my foot on the gas pedal-I was braking and going less than 10 mi/hr at the time. I have been unable to find out what caused the car to leap forward and accelerate. I have had no other incidents with this vehicle. I have put around 35,000 miles on the car mostly highway driving.

4 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/17/2007

I have a 2007 Honda Civic hybrid, on August 17,2007 as I was entering a parking space the accelerator stuck and I hit a small truck that was parked in the front spot. There was minimal damage to the truck but my car sustained over $7000. 00 in damages. I was just glad there were no people between my car and the truck, since they could have sustained fatal injuries. I was only slightly injured but I am concerned this is a problem with these cars that should be addressed. The dealer denied any problems.

7 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2005 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/01/2005

Accelerator sticking problem - like to say the first 6 months after buying a new 2005 Honda Civic the exact same thing happened numerous times. Problem then seemed to resolve itself. I still own the car and it has not again occurred since. Solution was to apply brake hard, put in neutral and kick the pedal. This was not a mat problem since this car has two grommets holding the mat in place.

10 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2002 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/30/2003

While leaving parking lot it was very dark as lights were out in front of and behind me and it was difficult to see behind me. I proceeded slowly in reverse and lightly hit the cement base of light behind me. I felt the impact on back right . I immediately placed my right foot on the brake. The car was stopped. I then tried to put the car into drive while doing this I noticed that the engine was loud and revving up speed and actually moving while I had my right foot on the brake and no foot on the gas. My first thought was that from the revving noise the accelerator pedal was stuck. I checked this with my right foot and felt that the gas pedal was up and not down as it sounded. I next put the car into park, we continued to move at an accelerated pace. I then placed both my feet on the brake pedal. I used as much force as I could, I did this by stepping on the brake with both feet and pulling up on the steering wheel to give me more force and pressure. The car did not slow down , did not skid , showed no signs of slowing down. I next pulled the emergency brake as hard as I could with my right hand, still the car did not slow down. There was a dumpster ahead to my left, a large parking lot light with a cement base to the right and a fence between them. I aimed the car between the dumpster and light. The car was still accelerating, no signs of slowing down. I made the decision to go over the curb hit the fence in the hopes that this would slow the car down in order to gain control. While going through the fence both feet were applied to the brake, no foot was on the gas and the emergency brake was up and in place. We went up another curb onto a road going in the wrong direction, for another 100 feet and the car slowed and stopped. My 13 year old son was with me in the passenger seat. (a few days prior while driving in a mall parking lot the car made a loud noise but no identifiable impact to the speed or drivability of the car at that time. ).

11 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 1998 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/29/2002

While driving on and approaching one of if not the largest socal freeway interchanges, driving at about 70mph or so, back to la from san diego; our 1998 Civic lx took control of itself and the speed increased to over 105mph, shaking and thumping. After weaving around pockets of traffic, including using the small shoulders, and all 5 or so lanes, as we approached the massive merging of freeways, panicked, we stomped and banged the floor, dash, everything. As shock wore off we thought we were dead, somehow put car (auto trans) into neutral, I believe we may have turned off the car at some point, the brakes finally started to work. Gas pedal was absolutely not stuck (this model was already repaired due to a floor matt recall), feet were not even on the gas as it started to happen (not in cruise, just shock). The car simply took off. We are forever traumatized by this experience and never thought to report until recent news reports. Approx date is really unknown but the year was 2002 as I soon after bought another car.

12 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 1998 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 02/17/2000

Two separate incidents of accelerator pedal sticking and brakes not working. Accelerator pedal stuck when pulling out of parking lot. I was pushing on brakes with no response. Had to use emergency brake, and the car continued to "rev" trying to accelerate. Turned car off. Restarted car, and again the car engine was trying to accelerate even though brakes were pushed. Was not using floormat. Dealership cannot duplicate. In October 99, turned into parking lot and accelerator pedal stuck and car increased speed. Again brakes did not work. Had to use emergency brake to get car to stop.

13 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 1997 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/28/1999

After vehicle started running accelerator pedal became stuck to the floor, causing vehicle to accelerate to speeds over 100 mph. 16 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 1997 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/16/1998

While merging into traffic, the accelerator stuck flat to the floor causing vehicle to suddenly accelerate; the brakes did not respond.

17 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 1998 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/04/1998

My accelerator pedal gets stuck and cannot be pressed unless a lot of force is used. When the pedal comes unstuck the car then jumps forward. This makes it very difficult and dangerous to drive, especially in slow traffic and when it rains. I have taken the car to the dealer eight times to repair from June 1998 to November 2002, but they could not repair it, even though Honda had a safety recall for this problem. The floor mat never caused the sticking. Now Honda says there is nothing wrong with the car and that any possible problems are due to lack of proper maintenance (improper oil and transmission fluids used).

18 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 1996 Honda Civic
