Ii had pulled out of a parking lot and was preparing to make a left turn. To allow an oncoming car to pass, I stopped in the intersection. However, the vehicle behind me was following too closely, and hit my rear bumper. Upon impact, my car suddenly revved and accelerated to perhaps 20-30 mph. I pressed harder on the brake, but the acceleration continued. I quickly applied the hand brake, and my vehicle came to a stop in the driveway of a facing business. Fortunately, no human or property damage occurred. I took my vehicle to the Honda dealer, who thoroughly inspected the applicable components; they could find no problems, so they contacted Honda, who subsequently came out but again could find no problems. The dealership suggested that I might have erroneously applied the accelerator instead of the brake, but I know that this is not true. I have many years of excellent driving experience, and quick reaction time. I am absolutely positive that I was applying the brake, and that my car experienced unintended acceleration. With a supposed clean bill of health, this car continues to be my mode of transportation. However, I always have an underlying fear that this unintended acceleration might occur again.

Honda part#: 77900-sna-a01 (methode) -or- 77900-sna-a02 (furukawa) reel assy, cable. With the failure of this part, vehicle cruise control, radio controls and srs air bags failed. The cable reel assembly is the component that makes the electrical connection between the function buttons and air bag on the steering wheel to the non-rotating steering column. The ribbon cable inside this mechanism was completely severed on the vehicle.

As I was leaving the parking lot of a shopping center, and about to get on the roadway, I came to a complete stop. When the opportunity came to proceed, I stepped on the gas pedal (throttle) and it got stuck to the floor for approximately 10 seconds. I immediately stepped on the brake pedal as hard as I could, to prevent the car from moving forward at a high rate of speed, however the car kept creeping forward. I managed to engage the emergency brake, which seemed to have helped. As an attempt to loosen the throttle, I shifted the shift lever from "drive" to "park," back and forth a couple of times, to no avail. As I was about to attempt to turn the ignition key to the off position, the throttle became unstuck. During the incident, the engine was running at high rpms. I took the car to the dealership and explained to them what I had experienced. The master mechanic took the car for a test-drive and confirmed that the throttle was getting stuck. During the actual inspection, the mechanic(s) found out that the throttle body and cable needed to be replaced. The repair was done and I had not had another such incident since then.

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Civic. The contact stated he was attempting to park the vehicle at speeds of 5 mph, applying minimal pressure to the accelerator pedal. The vehicle abnormally accelerated over a curb and into a nearby field. The dealer advised the contact that the failure was due to driver error and the accelerator pedal was controlled by a cable and not electronic. The contact was concerned with the recurrence of the failure and the possibility of a crash. The failure mileage was 69,000 and the current was unknown.

Throttle cable sticks at low speeds - when pressed, it "snaps lose" going to 1/2 throttle, jerking car forward, snapping necks of driver and passengers. Is a severe safety problem - could cause an accident by slamming vehicle into back of lead vehicle. Ref: campaign id 99i002000. While driving at approximately 10 mph throttle cable broke. Owner was able to coast into a parking lot and call a tow truck to have the vehicle transported to a local dealer. The dealer replaced the throttle cable. Vehicle was under warranty.
While depressing the brake pedal to decelerate vehicle accelerated to a high rate. Consumer shut off the vehicle, and restarted the engine. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. Dealer replaced throttle body and cable.

Honda of America will not honor replacement of throttle cable per NHTSA campaign id 99i002000 despite local Honda dealer confirming problem with cable. I was never notified of this campaign and only learned of it by proactively searching recall notices on the web.
The accelerator pedal feels rough or notchy when you press it. The car does not respond properly when traveling at low speeds and are required to move the accelerator pedal to make slight speed adjustments. This is the same problem described for 1996 Honda Civic. I have it on my 1997 Civic. Honda will not correct the problem on my 1997 Civic. I am concerned that this is a serious saftey hazard. If the throttle cable sticking problem becomes worse, it could cause the throttle to stick wide open.

While driving the vehicle accelerator cable got around the cruise control, causing the vehicle to accelerate and almost caused an accident. Had to break a part around the cruise control in order to stop the vehicle.

In the first incident, the vehicle was being driven between 60- 85 mph and suddenly accelerated until the driver stepped on the brakes. The dealer acknowlwdged that the accelerator had struck and stated that the "cable" needed replacing. During the second incident, the vehicle was traveling between 30-45 mph and continued to accelerate while the driver stepped on the brakes. The driver reach down and pulled the accelerator pedal up to stop the vehicle. Again the dealer stated that the cable needed repalcing.
Accelerator pedal sticks, several cables mounted too tight and needed adjustment.
A vehicle speed control recall (NHTSA campaign id number : 99i002000) related to my vehicle is posted on the NHTSA website. I have the specific problem described in this recall. However, both the Honda dealer and manufacturer said they did not find such a recall on my vehicle and refuses to pay for the fix. My vehicle make, model and year: make : Honda model : Civic year : 1997 the posted recall make, model and year: make : Honda model : Civic year : 1997 the NHTSA campaign id number is 99i002000 I feel the vehicle speed control recall poses a risk to my safety and I would appreciate it if NHTSA would assist me in getting the issue resolved. Accelerator cable stuck, vehicle accelerated out of control and ran into 2 parked vehicles and a tree before coming to a stop. Upon impact, air bags failed to deploy.
Fuel injection system failure, causing vehicle to idle rough afte rstarting; also, throttle cable binding.
Throttle cable failed.
Accelerator cable failed on two occasions.
Belts came of pulleys, vehicle lost control resulting in acollision. Also, replaced throttle cable/emissions/ignition/cv boots and windshield wipers.
Engine failed due to faulty key mount on crankshaft, and 2 belts came off pulley, vehicle loss control resulting in an accident. Also, replaced windshield wiper/washer, exhaust system, throttle cable, emissions, axles, brakes, cv boots, and floor mat. 8jb.
Consumers vehicle is involved in product improvement campaign 99i-002 to replace the throttle cable which causes the accelerator pedal to feel rough, when consumer contacted dealer for repair he was denied services. Nlm.
Consumer called complaining about having problems with the accelarator. Also stated that the vehicle accelerates and deaccelerates periodicly. Dealer was contacted and that was the way the vehicle was made. Ts.
Notice sent to consumer for replacement of the accelerator cable due to possible failure, consumer not able to have repairs completed due to lack of parts. Mjs.
