Cruise control randomly shuts itself off and will not turn back on.
Driving down the road with cruise control set, twice it has turned off for no reason. It refuses to turn back on no matter what I do. It can only be "fixed" by restarting the car. My safety and others is at risk because I can't keep my speed as consistent as using cruise control, taking my attention away from the road since I'm now concentrating more in my speed. I have not taken it to the dealer yet as others on the forums say the dealers are doing nothing about it. No warning lamps or warnings of any type before. Once the cruise fails, I get an icon on the screen but no message.

Lane monitoring system provides inconsistent warnings. This has been noted when the vehicle is in motion while I drive through the city and also on the highways. It sometimes without warning adjusts the steering of the vehicle. Brake monitoring system, when it does provide warning, provides warnings so late that a collision would be unavoidable. Tire pressure monitoring system does not provide adequate information to allow for an appropriate response of the driver. No feedback from the calibration mode of the tpms. Once the system provides its first alarm, doesn't respond well to calibration. My system now alarms about every 60-100 miles. The adaptive cruise control is scary. While it is expected that in especially hilly terrain that the cruise control would vary a bit (a couple of mph either direction), the system sometimes does not engage, sometimes turns itself off without warning, provides inconsistent warning of when the vehicle interval is not maintained, but the biggest problem is that it does not maintain the set point. For example yesterday, acc set at 42 mph. Speed limit was 40 mph. I was descending a hill and manually disengaged the acc when the vehicle speed exceeded 57 mph. Same trip -- acc set at 67 mph, speed limit at 65 mph; acc disengaged manually when vehicle speed approached 76 mph. Third instance, acc set at 56 mph, speed limit was 55 mph, acc manually disengaged at 63 mph. When acc first engaged, speed is at the set point. Then the system can't maintain the speed and consistently runs 1-2 mph below the set point. Hence, me setting the acc 1-2 mph above the speed limit. Believe that these are all part of the Honda sensing system which was part of the touring package, which is what I have. The 2017 cr-v models with the same system have a pending class action lawsuit. Honda will not respond to our inquiries.

When driving the car in certain situations the car will momentarily apply the brakes automatically rather hard for a period of a second or less. This occurs when on a highway and driving with the adaptive cruise control engaged and when passing a tractor trailer truck. It appears to happen only under certain situations such as sunlight angle and the color or reflection from the truck are interfering with the cars sensing brakes can also be automatically applied rather hard when exiting a highway ramp without using a turn signal. This can happen without the adaptive cruise control applied so I suspect it is related to the collision avoidance feature. I have owned this car since new and these events have occurred more then a dozen times. On a trip driving from florida to pennsylvania on rt 95 it happened about 5 times. Very frightening to have the brakes applied spontaneously at 70 miles/hr when passing a truck. I have asked about this during service at a Honda dealer and they reported everything was working properly.

Twice while driving at 60 mph the cruise control dropped out for no reason. I have low pressure alarms for no reason. These were always while I was driving. I had 6 in may and June took it to the dealer on July 3, they could not find anything wrong. That afternoon I had the low pressure alarm come on for no reason tires at at normal pressure.
I was driving on the freeway approaching some traffic, slowing from about 60mph to a stop. As I was slowing down, I noticed that my engine rpm was staying relatively constant (vehicle was not downshifting), I could hear the engine revving, and the brakes seemed less effective at slowing my vehicle. It essentially felt as though I had cruise control on, but it wasn't cancelled by applying the brakes. I was able to slow down enough to not hit traffic stopped in front of me, but had to quickly switch to neutral to stop completely. When I shifted into neutral, the engine rpms jumped up before dropping back down after a few seconds. I put it back into drive to move off to the shoulder of the road and the car seemed to operate normally. After shutting my car off, checking the foot well for obvious issues with the brake/accelerator pedals, and waiting a few minutes, I put it back into drive. Everything seemed to function as usual, so I reentered the freeway cautiously. About a quarter mile later, after getting up to the speed of traffic (about 50 mph), I noticed the same issue: the car maintained a constant speed even when my foot was off of the accelerator. I pressed the brake to slow back down and get to the shoulder, but the engine kept trying to accelerate. I put it into neutral, the rpm spiked before slowing back down to idle. The car idles fine, and the issue isn't very apparent at lower speeds. I know for a fact that my floor mats were not on top of the accelerator pedal, there were no other items in the foot well which may have interfered with either pedal, and my foot was not hitting both pedals while trying to brake.

The vehicle cruise control picks up speed when going down hill. The Honda dealership stated that the vehicle is a base model and does not have adaptive cruise control, therefore, according to them, is working as designed. The "design" has a serious safety flaw as the driver must constantly be aware of the terrain and speed of the vehicle which seems to negate the use of a cruise control. I experienced several frightening situations while on a road trip from yellowstone national park to seattle this summer. The car was gaining as much as 20-30 mph on steep, mountainous terrain resulting in dangerous speeds. I discontinued use thinking that this "feature" was malfunctioning. I can not believe the dealer's response that the cruise control was working as designed is in the interest of public safety or the truth. I was left with no other recourse but to file this report.
Cruise control was stuck in accelerate and could not turn it off on the interstate. I could have been killed. Neutral and full pressure to the brakes wouldn't stop it. Taking my foot off the brakes would only accelerate it more. I went 8 miles with full brakes in neutral till I was able to stop it. None of the off switches mmade any difference, I'm lucky to be alive and that I didn't hurt anyone. It started when I was on the entrance ramp to the interstate in osseo WI. I slowed down to merge,then cruise control accelerated unstoppable.

I was stopped in traffic when all of a sudden the car tried to accelerate even though my foot was firm on the brake pedal. I had to "stand" on the brake pedal and I immediately shifted into park. The engine reached a very high rpm until I jiggled the acceleration pedal. Then the engine acted normally. The eco was not engaged and the cruise control was not engaged. Mileage is 40,078 miles.

Adaptive cruise control does not break car when car ahead slows. System throws 'collision braking mitigation system', 'lane keeping assist', and 'adaptive cruise control' warnings. Dealer has attempted to repair without success.
Computer system had a major malfunction, triggering 6 different warnings, and an audible message to immediately pull over and park the vehicle and have a dealer inspect the vehicle. This happened after filling up the vehicle with gas. My family was in the vehicle with the car in accessory mode, listening to the radio. After finishing up fueling, about five minutes later, I returned to the vehicle. I got in, shut the door, put my foot on the brake, pressed the button to start the vehicle, put on my seat belt, and then saw the messages. After a few minutes with the car on and reading the messages, a voice started to talk and tell me, to stop the vehicle, park it, and have a dealer look at it. The 6 messages on the center display said various things. Such as they were titled: adaptive cruise control problem the pressure monitor system cmbs problems anti-lock brake system problem tire pressure low brake system problem the alarming number of problems about the brake system alone, tells me this vehicle should not be driven. Combine that with the audiable message about pulling over and parking the vehicle, no one in their right mind is going to drive it until it is properly looked at. The dealer did look at it, and said it was the vsa modulator, and needed to be replaced. However, there is case after case of this not fixing the problem found online. Yet people and their families, including mine are being sent back onto the road in these vehicles of which Honda has not and cannot provide a fix for because it, itself does not know what the problem is. Any therefore no one knows if their car is crying wolf, and just waiting to kill them. I don't want my car if I can't trust it. I just can"t wager my families lives on that. They are willing to tell us to drive around in the vehicle even before the first repair is tried. The errors are related to brakes.
When the adaptive cruise control (acc) and the vehicle lane keeping assist system (lkas) are engaged simultaneously, the vehicle will react unpredictably under certain conditions. The vehicle may brake suddenly, rapidly decelerate, and quickly depart the highway when approaching exit ramps. The situation occurs during daylight and nighttime hours with clean cameras and radar window. Driver response time is too slow to counteract the event. The vehicle may slow by 10-15 mph and depart the highway before the driver is able to resume control. During 300 miles of highway driving, the vehicle did this twice. A rear end collision was narrowly avoided in one case.
Unintended acceleration. Engine rev went to 3000 rpm while stopped at a traffic light. Kept car stationary by pressing hard on the break. First and only occurrence; also almost the first and only day the car was driven with cruise control operational.

With the manual transmission, when gearing down, depressing the clutch does not disengage the cruise control, so when you release the clutch, the vehicle resumes the original cruise set speed without pressing the "resume" button on the steering wheel. When we took the vehicle back to the dealer, they told us it is supposed to work that way. I have been driving manual transmission vehicles for 30 years, and it is common knowledge that depressing either the clutch or brake should disengage the cruise control.

Occasionally, when "cruise" option is turned on (but not engaged or "set"), my Honda Civic acts as if the cruise control is engaged. That is, when I remove my foot from the gas pedal, the expected deceleration does not happen. The car continues to travel at the same speed. Only when the brakes are applied, the car starts to slow down. This mimics the expected behavior of the car when cruise control is engaged even when cruise option is not used. In fact, on some occasions, the car jerks a bit when I lift my foot off the gas pedal just like when the cruise control is engaged.

Takata recall. Yes they are saing they can't do the rcal right now or are waiting for parts as dangerous time is passing. Also this is my second Honda Civic 2007 and 2008 where the cruise control activator button has failed @50,000 miles. Is this not a hazard as a person plays with the broke equipment while driving.
For any speed above 25mph this issue occurs at any speed the curise control is active. I noticed this issue alomost around August 2014. Issue occurs with setting speed control. In this model, the customer can choose either choose res +, res ¿. I found out if I choose res -, the vehicle sets the speed correctly most of the time with +/-1 mile which is ok. During this mode, each time the customer press ¿-¿, the vehicle speed decreases by one mile which is as designed. Sometimes, the vehicle does not hold the speed at the requested set speed and the vehicle speed continue decrease without limit I found out if I choose res +, the vehicle sets the speed correctly most of the time with +/-1 mile which is ok. During this mode, each time the customer press ¿+¿, the vehicle speed increases by one mile which is as designed. Sometimes, the vehicle does not hold the speed at the requested set speed and the vehicle speed continue decrease without limit the main and the most serious issue is, if the customer choose res -, then apply/press the brake the cruise control will be cancelled which is ok then if the customer choose res + after that, the vehicle speed continue rising without limit. This could cause accident if the driver did not pay attentions especially because it is not the normal operation.

On numerous occassions my manual transmission 2013 Honda Civic has accelerated on its own in 2nd and 3rd gears. It occurs much more often in 3rd gear and happened twice just today; it has never done this in 1st, 4th, or 5th gears. I don't use cruise control so, unless the cruise control is kicking in on its own somehow, that is not the cause. When the car starts accelerating on its own, I am unable to easily move the gear shift from 2nd or 3rd into neutral and have to either apply alot of pressure to move it into neutral or use the clutch. Breaking will sometimes stop the acceleration but not always and sometimes even when I use the brake, when I take my foot off the brake the car will continue accelerating on its own. This has occurred most often at speeds between 25 and 35. The car was purchased new from the dealer.
All of these issues have presented themselves while the car was on and in motion. Dear Honda: recall the airbags ASAP!! #1 sign of issue @ 45 miles: passenger airbag light/sensor would blink on-off intermittently (all the time) only while driving. Back driver window works intermittently. #2 @ 15000 miles: steering wheel controls intermittently worked backwards (volume up would turn down & vice versa. ) it wasn't frequently and always eventually started working correctly. #3 @ 40000 miles: airbag warning light came on stating "check airbags" it goes off every once in a while but is on 90% of the time. (not under warranty, the dealer wants $150 just to look. Having the car less 2yrs. And the airbag having issues since 45 miles and never being in an accident, I feel this should be something I should not have to pay for and can't afford anyway. Huge safety concern. #3 @ 60000 miles: my cruise control does not work. It won't even turn on. #4 @ 64000 miles: the horn does not work most of the time. All these issues and I've only had the car 2. 5 yrs. The cruise and volume controls not working is annoying but the horn and airbag is a huge risky issues. I'm not the first to complain. Honda is aware there is issues with the airbags in these models and still has not issued a recall? shame on you Honda! why wait? people are going to die because of the faulty airbags! how many before you make it right??!!.
While traveling on interstate with cruise control engaged at speed of ~72, went to apply brakes and brake pedal was hard and did not move. Cruise control did not disengage. Had to hit brakes several times before they worked. This incident occurred again 2 days later. Same exact issue.

Today, I was driving my wife s 2004 Honda Civic in the highway at about 60 miles per hr when all of the sudden the car started accelerating as if it was in cruise control. . I took my foot off the gas pedal and pressed the brake with little results. The brakes felt so hard as if they were locked. Then I decided to change gears to d2 and together with the emergency brake I was able to slow down the car a bit. After that, I pulled over the brake down lane at about 10 miles per hour but I still could not stop the car. With the help of the emergency brake I was able to stop the car however, the engine was still running as if it was accelerating. This is when I decided to put it on neutral and follow by a loud noise the engine finally stop running. . . . Thank god no one was hurt. . . .

The cruise control feature will just turn off, and the car will begin to decelerate. This can be dangerous if a driver does not realize they are decelerating (due to the automatic of driving and the effects of driving hypnosis). There have been too many electrical problems with all Hondas in the 2002-2004 years that have the potential to increase the risk of a crash that I do not think the consumer should have to pay for any of those repairs. The cruise control just turning off at very high speeds is one example of the many problems I have had.
I set the speed, using the cruise control, at 65 mph or 70 mph. Upon encountering a hill the car will slow down to as much as 60 or 65. Eventually the cruise control will kick in and the auto-throttle will accelerate the car quickly to 5 mph beyond the set speed. If it were set at 65, the car might accelerate to 70; set at 70 it might go to 75. Additionally, when I hit the brake to disengage the cruise control, it may take a couple of seconds for the throttle to disengage. Several times cars have passed me when the car automatically slowed going up a hill. After passing me, other vehicles thought it was safe to pull back into my lane, in front of me. If the cruise control kicked in at some point immediately after they passed, and my car started racing forward, putting little or no distance between myself and the car that just passed me, then I had to swerve to avoid an accident with the car that just passed because my car was lunging forward. Unknown to the car that passed, it was no longer safe for them to pull back into the right lane (two lanes going same direction). Upon complaining to two dealerships, they stated that what I was saying just wasn't true, but they were unwilling to take a test drive with me to confirm my experience. They noted that they had received several complaints, but stated that the gain and loss variance in speed was no more than 2 or 3 miles per hour due to the defective cruise control. I believe Honda is well aware of this dangerous feature, and that they are doing their best to sweep it under the rug. As far as I'm concerned, they can fix it, or take the car back. At this point, I really don't care. I do not like having a car with a feature I can not use because using the feature creates too much of a road hazard.
First thing this morning I tried to set my cruise control at 65 mph, but it didn't work. The speed of the car kept decreasing, despite several attempts to set the cruise. I turned off the cruise and tried to press the gas pedal to drive, and the same problem occurred. In addition, as I tried to increase my speed, the car made a loud humming sound and the rpms on the dash began to increase. Then an indicator light turned on; after driving for a few minutes, more indicator lights came on, my brake stopped working completely, and my steering wheel locked. My gas pedal also stopped working completely. At this point, as I was going uphill I lost complete control of the car and put the car in park because that was the only way I could stop the car. Smoke began coming from the hood. I had the car towed to the midas in salt lake city at 875 east 2100 south. The service people told me the cars engine had heated so that it melted the equipment under the hood. Later, after a discussion with the Honda corporate office, I found out a recall had been issued in August 2010 for a problem with the engine blocks of 2006, 2008, and some 2009 Civics. The Honda representative said a letter had been sent to Civic owners. However, my experience today showed me the seriousness of this problem. I could have a life-threatening accident today, and when the issue is so grave Honda should call car owners to alert them to the recall. A letter sent out one time is not enough. The midas service representatives told me they had absolutely no information about this recall in their database, which proves how poorly this entire matter has been handled. There are many families out there driving these Civics. Get your cars checked out, and let Honda know that they must take better care and full responsibility for their customers!.

Applied clutch and engine continued to increase rotations per minute (rpm). I believe that engine rpm must have hit a threshold then disengaged.

I was driving my car on the freeway up a slight incline. My Honda was usually sluggish going uphill and would rev to about 3000 rpms before shifting into 4th gear at approx 55mph. However, on this particular occasion, I kept accelerating the car up the incline, but at 60mph the car's rpms were increasing to the red line zone meaning the car was not shifting. Since my car had never done this before, I was confused and also I was concerned the rpms would increase too much so I attempted to apply the brakes to slow the speed of the car. The brakes felt as if they had locked up, would not press down, and barely slowed the car to 55mph. I took my foot off of the brake pedal and without my foot pressing down on the accelerator or the brake pedal, the car quickly accelerated on it's own to 70mph and the rpms were red lining. I quickly applied the brakes again, which were doing little to slow my car. The brakes were competing with the acceleration and myself and my two passengers could smell the brakes burning. I checked that the floor mat was out of the way and it was. I checked that cruise control wasn't turned on and it wasn't. I applied the brakes as hard as I could and was able to decelerate the car to 40mph with the rpms still red lining. Then I shifted the car into neutral, and although the cars rpms were out of control, the shift into neutral decelerated the car to about 10 mph. I pulled the e-brake and shut off the engine. At this time the brakes were visibly smoking. I contacted the Honda dealership who was incredibly reluctant to help. In a meeting with the manager, he even stated, "how do we know your foot wasn't on the accelerator the whole time?" I inspected the air cleaner box cover myself and saw no damage (due to a recall I read about on that make/model). Honda found nothing wrong, said the car was "operating as designed" and sent me home with a bill.
I drive a 2004 manual Honda Civic. I was driving down the freeway with cruise control set at about 70 mph. Suddenly, I felt my car speed up substantially and when I look at the speedometer I was traveling over 85 mph. I immediately canceled cruise control but my car continued to gain speed. I hit my brakes which caused my car to shudder violently. When my foot wasn't on the brakes, my car continued to quickly gain speed. I attempted to move the car into neutral and coast to a stop, but when I put the clutch in my rpm's rose to about 8,000 and didn't go down even when the car was in neutral. The car also continued to increase in speed even when it was in neutral. I moved back into 5th gear and continued down the highway going between 85-95 mph. I was able to maintain that speed only with my foot on the brakes. I placed a call to 911 and informed them that I couldn't stop my car. The 911 dispatcher contacted highway patrol who set out to catch me. Once a highway patrolman was behind me, I was instructed to shift into neutral, even though the rpm's would shoot up, and coast to a stop. The car shook almost uncontrollably while I was slowing down and even at a complete stop in neutral on the side of the road the rpm's were at about 8,000. We had the car towed to the Honda dealership where they turned the car on and witnessed the rpm's immediately shoot up to 8,000 again. After looking under the hood they could not determine a cause for the incident. When they turned the car on again it started and ran normally. No significant damage to the car was done, and luckily the freeway was uncrowded so an accident was avoided.
