The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the head gasket was blown and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 91,127.

2 Blown Head Gasket problem of the 1998 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/13/2004

Consumer stated that granddaughter bought a certified Honda Civic and had nothing but trouble since she purchased the vehicle. One month after the vehicle was purchased the head gasket blew out, and needed to be replaced. This was done by the dealer that sold her the vehicle. Then, power steering pump leaked, and it was repaired 2 months later. In may of this year the same thing happened power steering pump leaked again. The engine had to be replaced again at 89440 miles. The transmission was replaced due to shifting problems at 90552 miles.
