1 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/26/2021

I have been experiencing multiple electrical issues since about 6 months after purchase with brake light bulbs repeatedly burning out along with every system icon on the dash flashing off and on while driving the car it will not start always and at times it will not open with the key or the remote fob all being taken in to shops for repairs and within weeks I can be back to the shop with yet another so called fix this recurring problem is a big safety issue.

2 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/28/2020

On October 28, 2020, I was driving on a city street to work, when I heard a loud pop and saw a bright flash. All the dash lights came come then after a second everything shut off. The car stopped, but still rolling I pulled into a parking lot. I tried to open the door, but I couldn't. The locks would not move, on either door. Not manually. I was trapped inside. Thank goodness the car didn't start a fire, because I would not be able to get out. Not by opening the doors manually. The metal pole that holds the hood up came loose somehow and hit the battery, which made a short and shut everything down. Regardless, the car should unlock manually if the power locks don't work. I couldn't unlock from inside by pulling the handle or the locks would not move/open.

3 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/08/2020

Sometimes, when trying to start the vehicle, it will not crank and start. The electric power will come on (dash board icons, headlights, etc. ), but it will not crank. It takes from 2 to 7 turns of the key, before it cranks and starts. This problem occurs sometimes once a week, sometimes 2 or 3 times. I took it to a Honda dealer for repair. However, on the day I took it in, of course, it was working fine. The service manager said that their computer could not diagnosis it, unless the problem occurred while it was hooked to the computer. He told me to bring it back when the problem got worse, or the car would not start at all. I have not returned to the dealer yet. This problem began in early July of this year. The vehicle had approximately 36,000 miles on it.

4 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2013 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/30/2020

The car would cut out while in motion during a turn. (it looks like I'm stalling). Other times I will be driving straight and feel the care losing power the more I pushed on the gas. Once I let my foot off it would have power to go again. This happens more often while on city streets then highway speeds. In March, when I went to start car the car dashboard went mad flashing and the car wouldn't start. I was able to jump start the car. I changed the battery and it continues to stall. I notice that the newer vehicles are doing the same thing and wonder if its the same issue that needs addressing.

11 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/19/2016

Purchased a new 2016 Civic touring in may 2016. Within a couple of weeks I was having small electrical issues such as screens going black, rebooting, and stereo not working. I would get a failure warning on the dash once in awhile (different each time). Car failed to start on July 26th 2016. All screens were flashing error messages. Car would not start. I called the dealer and had the car towed. Dealer claimed they have never seem this problem. They kept the car for a couple of days and stated there was nothing wrong, and they couldn't replicate the problem. I would continue to have the same small problems with the car every so often. Until, the car slammed on the brakes coming to a complete stop by itself and computer took 100% control of the car. I couldn't steer, accelerate, or control the car at all. I nearly got rear ended in an intersection. There was not a car directly in front of me that would have caused the collision avoidance to brake in order to avoid an accident. After the car came to a complete stop I regained control again and the car operated normal. Soon after, while attempting to start the car I received the all the error codes again and it the car wouldn't start. I again called the dealer and had it towed. Dealer cannot tell me why the car self braked and cannot replicate it. I have an open case# with Honda of America. I have told both the dealership and Honda of America the car is unsafe to drive. My wife and daughter are both scared for their safety to drive it. No one from my family including myself will be driving the car ever again, nor can I sell it to someone else. They need to purchase the car back from me and find out what is causing this to ensure no one gets seriously injured from this happening again.

The car would not start, it cranked and tried to turn over but would not start. I had to be pushed home by neighbor. After taking it to mechanic, I have had the coil replaced, distributor replaced, spark plugs and wires replaced as well as a sensor. The car still will not start. 15 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2004 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/05/2011

For the past few weeks, car wouldn't start when turning key. Lights on panel light up but no sound and doesn't turn. After trying up to 10 times or as few as 3 times, the car would start and drive normally. Then at other times, it would start with no problem. Took into Honda dealer on November 3, 2011. Car started with no problems so could not detect actual problem. Drove car home and drove fine. Last night my daughter drove the car in a residential area at night, so wasn't going too fast then didn't notice anything until she started braking. Then realized the brakes didn't work and the steering froze, the car just stalled. They panicked and drove uphill and let it roll back several times trying to stop it then came to a stop and parked it. Someone came to assist, jiggled the wheel and it was fine and the car restarted with no problems after. Drove the car home. We are afraid to drive it again in case it locks up again especially at a higher speed and with no brakes or steering control. Researched it on internet and found that there was some recalls on ignition switch where the electrical contacts within the ignition switch gets worn prematurely causing the switch to malfunction. This could be very serious and dangerous and thought it should be reported. Would appreciate any information you may provide us and recommendations. I checked my VIN and there was no recalls but it sure sounds like the same problem with other recalls. Thank you so much and looking forward to hearing from you.

18 Car Will Not Start problem of the 1996 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/11/2010

My 1996 Honda Civic would not start one morning, I had initially thought it was due to the chilly weather. A week later, while driving on the freeway at 65+ mph, all of a sudden, my car stalled and the engine shut off!!!! after my car finishes coasting on the freeway (and residential road), I will have a little problem trying to restart my car, but it will eventually restart! I was scared for my life for the obvious reasons (one second you're going 65mph and the next, your car dies on the freeway with cars speeding behind you)!! I found online that there was a recall for certain Hondas & acuras (1997 to 2000 models of accord, Civic, prelude, cr-v, and odyssey and some 1999 Acura tl sedans and certain 1997 to 1999 cl coupes). The problem is, my car is a 1996 Civic and it is now December 2010, so therefore, it is not covered with manufacture!! I'll bet my life that a lot of people do not know of this defect with their Hondas because #1, they probably were not the 1st owner of their Honda so they would not of been aware of the recall, and #2, even though it has been years since the recall, I believe that it is still a life threatening issue for myself and for all other drivers due to the manufactures fault!!! this issue should be resolved and re-evaluated ASAP, as lives are at stake!!!!.

19 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2003 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/05/2010

My 2003 Honda Civic VIN #[xxx] purchased new in 2003. , now have 79,449 odometer reading. Since I got it, sometimes when I insert the ignition key to start the car the key would not turn to starting positiion it just stucked in the keyhole. I remove the key and try to shake and turn the steering wheel and/or step on the gas pedal, then reinsert the key to start the car. Somtimes it start , at times it takes 2-4 times then the key turns to start the car. This happens ocassionally but lately more frequently about 80% every time . I read in the October 2010 consumer reports magazine that there is a recall of 2003-04 Honda accord, Civic and element with the problem that the interlock lever of the ignition switch might deform interfering with the automatic transmission. I called dick hannah Honda where I bought my car and asked them about this recall. They informed me that they do not have the list of recalled 2003 Civics at this time. I would like to file this safety problemto your office that my vehicle have this "ignition switch" problem. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

23 Car Will Not Start problem of the 1999 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/12/2005

About 3 weeks ago, I was driving home from work and made a right turn at a stop light and all of the sudden the car stopped. I nearly got hit, and I was able to coast to the side of the road. The car would not start again. I had it towed to the station across the street from where it died. They replaced the distributor cap and coil in it. This all cost me $710. Then 4 days ago I was driving home on a local road by home and the car just quit on me again. I have someone looking at it and they thought it was the tps but that's not it. They can't figure out what's going on. I had the ignition switch replaced when the recall came out for that a few years ago. Maybe that's the problem again?.

24 Car Will Not Start problem of the 1998 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/30/2002

While I was driving my kids to school the car suddenly lost power and stalled. I took it to my mechanic I spent $300. 00 in parts bad igniter and coil a month later same problem. But only this time the car did not start in the morning was told maybe bad ignition switch or distributor. Dt.

25 Car Will Not Start problem of the 1999 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/16/2002

I received a recall notice on my 1999 Honda Civic for the ignition switch in September 2002. I took the car to get a new switch installed. After that I did not see a positive change or faster start up of the car . In fact, it seemed to start slower and slower. When I would press the accelerator I felt a grinding sensation under my foot from the gas pedal, which sounded like the car was struggling to speed up. Also, when I would turn the key in the ignition the car would not start right away, it stalled for about (7) seven seconds or so. I believe this car is a lemon. When I bought it, the gears wouldn't change properly. I would press the accelerator to go up to spped on the highway and it would take a long time for the car to change gears, it sounded very loud because of this. I don't know why it did this, I am concerned and it became very annoying. I had an accident while driving this car on oct. 16, 2002. As I was driving I heard something crack under the car and the car started to spin to the other side of the road causing me to lose control of the car. I believe the car had a safety defect that caused the wheels to break, resulting in loss of control of the vehicle. The insurance adjuster told me these are some of the damages to the car: the bottom of the floor shifted, the axle broke, the tires and wheels broke, they declared the car a total loss. I believe the wheels/tires broke first, which is probably what the cracking sound was that I heard which caused the car swerve. My insurance company paid the car off so fast which leads me to believe they are hiding something. Aslo, I think the steering of the car was out of line, because sometimes the car would veer to the right when I would be driving straight it would be difficult to stay in the lane I would appreciate all the information you can give to help me find out what else is wrong with this car as I already said a recall for the ignition was issued more defects may be found. Dt.

26 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2000 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/26/2002

After returing to my parked car, I put the key in and turned the key, no dashboard lights went on and the engine did not crank. I turned it back to the off position, turned off the vent blower and tried again. Then it started just fine. Another time I waited 30 seconds and it started after failing the first time. Honda says (9/30/2002) my car isn't included in the ignition switch recall. It wouldn't fail for the dealer. Right now, I'm guessing that I don't need to do anything with with the blower switch, just retrying the ignition seems like it will work. We'll see when it occurs again. Mr.
