1 Wiring problem of the 2003 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/26/2020

The combination light switch connector in my car is experiencing problems with heat in the low beam wiring. It is the same problem as listed under other Civics from the model year range, but mine is not included in the recall. It may cause the low beams to go out and cause visibility issues when the wire becomes too hot.

2 Wiring problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/06/2019

Eps sub harness is made from a soy based product that attracts rodents and a common cause for wires being chewed and destroyed. As soon as we presented the problems with Honda mechanic he immediately and suspiciously asked if we parked the car outside. Upon his inspection of the engine he only looked at wires with predetermination that the cause of the issues was wiring. This appears to be a common compliant among the Honda community and law suits have been filed, only to be dismissed due to technicalities of probable cause. The damage endangers the consumer driving because the car stalls and the driver loses the ability to steer because of the loss of power steering and function. Because these are shorts occurring in the electrical system they tend to clear up in between drives making the driver believe the car is functional, but this only rises the risk to injury by accident and or even death.

5 Wiring problem of the 2018 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/02/2018

The engine wiring harness cover composition is attractive to rodents. Squirrels chewed into the harness leading to loss of acceleration. The entire harness needs replacing due to the soy based wire coating. The failure was first noticed while at speed (approximately 35 mph in city traffic. Subsequent attempts at starting the vehicle resulted in rough idle and dangerous hesitation when merging. Local dealer advises this is a common issue affecting the uk assembled Civic hatch back. Estimate for replacement is $900. 00 as this is not covered by Honda.

6 Wiring problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/26/2018

My 2017 Honda Civic hatchback, with 13,015 miles on it, was in my carport and had only been sitting 2 days without being driven when I turned the car on and the car began throwing warnings of all electrical systems having problems. For example the tpms, electric parking break, brake system, electric power steering, hill start assist and more. And I had no power steering. I had my car towed to surprise Honda (big mistake) and they saw that my harness (part number 53682-tsa-a01) was chewed by rodents which caused the problem. Honda says and knows this wiring is made from soy based material which attracts rodents. Honda even has a special spicy tape, which they charge for as well, that they can use to wrap the wiring to deter the rodents (which the service mgr said really doesn't work. ) Honda says it is not covered under their warranty. They replaced the wiring and it cost me 370. 00 dollars. The part itself was only 20. 00 dollars. It is 108 degrees outside the rodents are not going into my engine to keep warm!! the soy base wiring is attracting them to do the damage. Honda and their dealership were of no help whatsoever except to make money off a poor choice in their soy base wiring.

7 Wiring problem of the 2005 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/30/2018

Dealership (spreen Honday of redlands California) failed to complete airbag repair (damaged other parts during "repair") and Honda of America won't get involved to resolve the issue. Dealership damaged integrity of dash by hacking out an unseen section as shortcut, used duct tape for electrical wiring, and left a piece of dash padding in my ac system. This was discovered June 2018 when changing cabin air filter.

8 Wiring problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/30/2018

My Honda Civic 2017 car was in my driveway not moving when I turned the car on and all my warning lights came on and I had no power steering. I had my car towed to Honda and they saw that my sub wiring harness was chewed which caused the problem. Honda says this wiring is made from soy based material which attracts rodents. They replaced the wiring and it cost me 268. 00 dollars. The part itself was only 28. 00 dollars. This then happened to me again exactly 2 weeks later with the same problem. I had to have the car towed again. This time I found out there is a fix for this. A spicy tape that Honda makes that can be wrapped around the wiring to resist rodents I don't know how effective this is. They said they don't have the tape. . I am currently waiting to see what they are going to do since they know about this problem and my car is in the shop again going on the 2nd day. Ther is a class action suite that was filed for this very same reason. This dates all the way back to 2010 I was told.

9 Wiring problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/11/2018

The car has a problem with the srs wiring harness that controls airbag deployment and driver and passenger safety. This causes the airbag light to come on and prevents proper deployment. The problem is extremely common in Hondas, specifically 8th generation cars. The cause is a poorly made wire that gets caught in the passenger seat track, causing a short in the wire. It can only be repaired properly and safely by removing the entire wiring harness and replacing it. This requires that the carpeting and the dashboard be removed and takes 6-8 hours worth of work, and is replaced with a $200-400 part depending on where you take it. It cannot be fixed easily or affordably by the consumer, and prevents the car from being safe to drive or passing inspections in the state of virginia. The problem may have occurred sooner, as the vehicle was only purchased used a few months ago. It happens in most Hondas and is not covered by the manufacturer's 150,000 mile warranty on other parts despite having released a TSB to all dealerships because the problem is so common. It presents a danger to drivers and deserves to have a recall issued.

10 Wiring problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/10/2018

Soy based wiring attracting rodents to chew my wiring of vehicle. Hundreds of similar complaints I found.

11 Wiring problem of the 2003 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/18/2017

Takata recall: there have been numerous times where I have either called or went to a Honda dealership to have the airbag inflators on both the driver and passenger side, fixed to avoid harm to myself or others. In almost three years, I have not once heard back about the dealership receiving parts to fix the issue. I have never received notice, nor was I told about the recall with the wiring harness terminal for the low beam headlights. Honda needs to fix this issue because it is a huge safety hazard that can get people killed or seriously injured.

12 Wiring problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/19/2017

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. When the vehicle was started, the emergency brake failure warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but was not diagnosed. The contact was concerned that the soy base wiring harness had been eaten through by rodents. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 34,000.

13 Wiring problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/01/2017

I leased my Honda Civic from herb chambers Honda of boston in Nov. 2016. In March 2017 my check engine light came on. When I took my car to the dealership for servicing, they told me that rodents had chewed on the wires under my vehicle. After I did some research on my own, I found out that many other people were having this same issue and my car received damage to the wiring (under my car) due to the soybean coating that Honda is using on the wire covers. I was told that this is not covered by the dealership or warranty. Remind you "this is a lease. " my brand- new leased car was completed dead and wouldn't even turn on. I am lucky it didn't die on me while I was driving it. I have read online complaints that this has had to other people with this damage to their vehicles. I was quoted $2,600 in repairs. I ended up paying a $500 deductible to my insurance company. There are class action law suits in place in CA and other states regarding the "soy-based wire covering. " this is a serious safety issue and a recall needs to be made by Honda.

14 Wiring problem of the 2014 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/12/2016

Vermin chewed up my engine bay wiring harness wires and the initial potential fix will cost $360, if the damage is worse it will cost another $1500 at least.

Failure Date: 10/26/2016

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. While driving various speeds, the brake warning indicator flashed intermittently on the instrument panel. The contact also mentioned that the check engine, power steering, and traction control warning indicators also illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that something under the vehicle was chewing the wires and they would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 11,000.

16 Wiring problem of the 2012 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/29/2016

Three different time, the car was parked overnight and would not start the next morning. It had to be towed. I was told that rodents had chewed through the soy based wiring insulation in multiple areas, including the fuel tank pressure sensor, the fuel hose. The mechanic could not offer me any concrete solution to prevent this from happening again and I fear a problem might occur while I am actually driving.

17 Wiring problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/15/2016

Takata air bag failed recall! my 2007 Honda Civic sedan has an inflator malfuction located in the driver side rear that keeps the airbag light on at all times. Ive taken it to valley high Honda 2differant occasions. 2009, 2016 the dealer said they wont fix it, I should go to pick a part. Honda America also told me they wont fix it. Not covered under warranty! the bags are not in working order due to the light being on and will not deploy if involved in an accident! I thought safety was #1 priority for Honda? I have all my documentation showing my multiple visits. My wife and children travel in this car daily. I would like some help fixing this so my family will be protected if in an accident. I received a recall notice but the dealer said its not covered. I am writing this complaint after receiving an auto airbag settlement card in the mail. I purchased the vehicle used from valley high Honda in 2007. The vehicle has never been involved in an accident while I have been the owner. I was told it wasnt in one prior to my purchase. I was informed by the same dealer that the inflator wiring was damaged and came disconnected from the inflator switch and that I was at fault. ? I recently have moved and dont have all my docuents readily available, so I havent attached them yet. The airbag light had began coming on shortly after or near the time of my purchase of the car. I will send or attach my little bit of information/documents as soon as I can get settled and locate it.

18 Wiring problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/07/2016

I cranked up my brand new Honda and a emissions system error displayed. I contacted the dealer and drove it to them. In retrospect that was probably a bad idea. My entire electrical system could have glitched and I could have been hurt. Rodents ate my wiring harness this weekend. As per the service tech at my local Honda dealership the wiring harness and surrounding pieces are made from a soybean derivative. They are attracted to it because essentially it's a protein pack on tires. This is my 7th Honda (prelude si, Civic si, accord ex, Civic dx, Honda atv, Honda atv) and I've never had any critter eat anything Honda related before. I still park in the same place. Nothing has changed. My angst is that Honda is unable to provide parts not mad from soybeans. If my new Honda had been manufactured with something less environmentally friendly is is highly probable this loss would not have occurred. The thing that frustrates me the most is that Honda's brand of rodent deterrent tape is not part of any dealer option package. Therefore I wasn't offered a chance to buy the $30 roll of rodent tape from the Honda parts department. Now I'm looking at over $1000 in damage that could have been prevented by tape and Honda cannot guarantee that the way they repair it will not prevent it from occurring again. I've only owned the call for 3 months. I'm extremely concerned it could happen again and that would be another $1000 repair. Does Honda truly believe that using these parts is okay? do they expect me to purchase an 8th Honda after dealing with this mess? I'm very disappointed. . Read more...

22 Wiring problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/18/2013

The air bag light (srs light) has been coming on and off for about a month. The Honda dealer said it was a code 32-10, an open in the front passenger' side airbag inflator. Need to replace the floor wiring harness per sb 10-001, the srs portion of the floor harness has a poor crimp in it. That is on the dealer work order. The Honda dealer said the car is out of warranty, and the repair is about $1300. 00. This is not a wear item, wiring harness should not fail and cause a safety issue, inoperative air bag. Thank you for reviewing. I believe Honda has a ongoing problem that needs addressing. Also, I've requested the faulty wiring harness. If you would like to see it, please contact me.

23 Wiring problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/30/2013

The srs light on my Honda was on for the past month. This is a known issue that is affecting lots of Honda Civics of 2006 and 2007 that Honda refuses to acknowledge. The wiring harness has to be replaced and the passenger side weight sensor, which is close to a $2000 repair. When I asked Honda corporate (customer service mariann at 800-999-1009) I was arrogantly told they do not care because the car is outside of warranty. It is disgraceful that Honda markets safety in their vehicles, but does not stand behind their srs system failing prematurely. This is not a wear and team item and no one sits in my car besides me. There should be a safety recall on this since airbags will not deploy whether or not we wear seat belts.

24 Wiring problem of the 2009 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/25/2011

2009 Honda Civic hybrid. Consumer states air condition failure and problem with indicator lights the dealer informed the consumer that rodents eating acorns had dropped the shells into the air conditioner intake. The consumer also stated the park and drive light illuminated. The park light was steady, while the drive light blinked on and off. The consumer shut the vehicle off. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, where they determined a rodent had damaged a cable. Also, the trunk failed to open on command, the consumer believed the problem occurred when the vehicle was detailed which caused the protective gasket to lose its protective lubricant. The gasket was lubricated and the trunk lid now opens on command.

25 Wiring problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/01/2010

2008 Honda Civic. Consumer states problem with the engine and brakes the consumer stated the air conditioner was not working properly for 20 -30 minutes at a time while driving. The ac knob was turned on, but the blower was not working. When the consumer returned to the dealer, she was informed dye had been placed in the ac system and to return in 3 weeks to see if there were any leaks. The consumer returned 3 weeks later and no leaks were found. The dealer advised the consumer that nothing could be done unless ac/heater blower was not working at the time. In December 2009, while it was raining, the windshield became fogged, because the blower was not working. The consumer was able to get to the dealer in time for them to witness, that the ac/ heater blower was not working, but as the technician went to drive the vehicle into the service bay, it began working again. On one occasion when the consumer arrived at the dealer, the blower was not working, but when the door was closed, it began working again. The consumer believed there is a wiring problem. The consumer also stated the engine would surge when the brake was applied.

26 Wiring problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/18/2010

On August 18, 2010 my 2007 Honda Civic caught fire in my driveway. At about 10:30pm I looked out my bedroom window to see if I put the driver's window up and discovered that my car was on fire. Flames where coming from the right front fender/passenger side mirror area. When I got closer to the car I could see a clear-yellow-ish flame that was burning a whole in the fender from the inside out. I had called 911, but I was nervous about the car being so close to the house and I put out the fire myself. The damage was relatively minor and the car was repaired. Originally, the insurance company said that a faulty wiring harness caused the fire. They later stated that the cause was undetermined. There is another report of a 2007 Civic catching fire due to a faulty wiring harness on this site.

27 Wiring problem of the 2005 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

I purchased a 2005 Honda Civic new. The vehicle now belongs to my son. The vehicle was taken to the Honda dealer for maintenance since I purchased it. Approx. 6 months ago my son was stopped by the police on several occasions due to the license plate light and all of the tail lights being in-op. It was taken immediately to the dealer. They replaced the bulbs did a diagnostic check and the light still did not work. They could not figure it out. He took the vehicle to meineke for state inspection and of course it could not pass due to the lights. When the mechanic look at the wiring it had been sliced in three different places and taped back together. The wiring had either been jimmied apart, or something snagged them. I never added anything to the car. It belong to me until sept last year. It is apparent it came from the factory this way. It cost several hundred dollars to correct. Honda is not helping me with this.

28 Wiring problem of the 2002 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/15/2009

The srs (secondary restraint system) light in our 2002 Honda Civic has come on. This is at least the third time this has occurred. The first time before we owned the vehicle at about 30,000 miles. The second some time in between. This last time at about 70,000 miles. The Honda dealership said the computer tells them the light comes on because of the buckle on the passenger side sea belt is defective. They have replaced the buckle at least twice. They refuse to replace it again because they claim that is not the problem, the seat buckle warning light does not come on when a passenger is sitting in the passenger seat, without the seat belt being latched. I believe this means the airbags are not operational. The Honda dealership does not know what the problem is. They claim that the problem is either in the wiring harness or the computer. One fix would cost $400, the other $600. They refuse to do anything further, although they offered to split the cost of replacing the harness or computer. They claim a lifetime warranty on the seat belts but are not honoring it in this case.

29 Wiring problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/02/2009

The contact owns a 2007 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the vehicle caught fire while parked. The fire department extinguished the fire and filed a report. The vehicle was destroyed and the insurance company stated that the fire was caused by a defect in the wiring harness. The manufacturer and dealer have not been notified. The current and failure mileages were approximately 35,000.

30 Wiring problem of the 2001 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/30/2009

Left front headlight first failed on 01/30/2009. Electrical wiring to front low beam headlight overheated causing melting of headlight connector to electrical harnesst. . A succession of another 4 headlight connectors have melted between o8/08/2009 to December 14, 2010. First 4 headlight connector replacements completed by Honda dealer. Prior to Jan 30th 2009 headlight connector failure,a different Honda dealer completed NHTSA 304v86000 recall work for headlight electrical overheating recall in 2006 during regular maintenance appointment. Failure #5 happened on dec14, 2010 just 6 days after melted connector #4 was replaced on December 8th 2010. Dealer found cruise control unit inoperable due to electrical melt down. Original air conditioner compressor replaced in 2009 due to melt down. Safety and possible fire hazard due to chronic overheating of original electrical harness & multi-plex unit. Honda dealer unable solve problem of repeated melting headlight connectors. All connectors are Honda dealer parts. Total of 4 left headlight connectors and 1 right headlight connector have melted. 5th melted headlight connector has not been replaced. Using the high-beams to drive at night since 4 previous Honda dealer replacement connectors have melted. Time intervals between connector failure keeps getting shorter and shorter. Due to chronic unsolved electrical overheating problem, the safety of electrical system is compromised.

32 Wiring problem of the 2001 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/01/2006

The srs indicator light came on and has been on for 2 years. I was t-boned on the passenger side by the gas tank, and the airbags did not deploy. I had taken the car to the dealer numerous times for maintenance & was never informed of this possibility due to the indicator light being on. Had I known, it would have been fixed or inspected. Now the dealer says it is not under warranty & at 100 hr. I do not want to have to hunt & peck to find the source of this electrical malfunction. Honda should extend the warranty to include electrical wiring & safety system components on 2001 models, based on 100's of other complaints by other Civic owners. Also, the right window motor is burned out (since 2007), it almost stalls when in reverse (since 2005), have noticed a lag in acceleration in lower gears (60k), also abrupt downshifting (sometimes) & it makes an odd humming seeming to come from rear of vehicle when accelerating (this last week). Mileage is 87k, way too soon for a Honda to give out.

33 Wiring problem of the 2003 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/01/2006

Driver side headlight stopped working on dim only. Changed bulb, but this bulb also did not work on dim. Verified the bulb was good by trying it on the passenger side. The next day, the driver side headlight just started working again. 3 weeks later it went out again. This time I traced the wiring back inside the car to the "inside" fuse box. The wiring that goes out to that headlight comes from a plug that plugs into this fuse box. After "wiggling" this plug, the headlight came back on. However I can "wiggle" it and make it go off also. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

34 Wiring problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/01/2006

The radio antenna (located in the rear window defroster) is nothing but static. I live in a major metropolitan area and can not get one radio station to come in clearly. I've had the radio replaced and by the dealer when the car was under warranty with no luck. There is no static with cd's - only radio (fm mostly). Wiring in rear defroster/radio is compromised. Honda service dealerships have not been helpful in resolving this issue or informing me of what the issue was.

35 Wiring problem of the 2005 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/05/2005

Fire in seat belt wiring under the passenger seat. The seat, floor and passenger door caught on fire. The fireman said it was electrical and american Honda is taking no blame. Stated there is no voltage in the wires unless the air bag is deployed.
