2 Emission Control problem of the 2005 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/09/2007

New 2005 Honda Civic xl special addition 4-door sedan purchased from Honda of fort myers 7-21-05. Almost immediately after purchase malfunction light on the dash indicating a problem with the emission control system began to light up. It was on all the time. The manual stated that you should go to the dealer immediately and have it checked if this happens as continued operation may cause serious damage to the vehicle. We had the car in the shop on 4 different occasions 8-20-05, 8-30-05, 12-22-06, 5-9-07. The light would go out for 2-3 days after being worked on in the shop and come back on. This has been an extreme source of frustration and concern. The car has developed an additional symptom of stumbling and losing power when trying to blend into traffic. We have just lived with this thinking "well, what can we do". But I'm convinced that someone, somewhere knows what to do to fix this. I am going to make it my project to work toward that end. Thanks for any assistance you may be able to offer. If we could get a factory representative to show up at the dealer to get them to fix it, that would be great.

3 Emission Control problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/01/2007

My Honda Civic hybrid is giving off unsafe levels of emf's. It has caused me to fall asleep at the wheel 3x and have had to take naps after 1/2 hr of driving. My b/p has been out of control since using the car alot. My dog goes into pre-seizure after 5 min in car. I have to get rides when I take her to the dr. Honda will not address this issue without documentation from my local dealer. My dealer refuses to document. The field engineer will noto look at the car without documents. This is a very big safety issue with fatigue also only the prius. Think of all the hybrids out there with people getting tired and possibly falling asleep. These cars can be shielded from these very high levels of emf's. There really is no incident date because this is ongoing.

4 Emission Control problem of the 2000 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/10/2007

Honda Civic exhaust manifold; after owning a 2000 Honda Civic for two years, I have had to replace the entire exhaust, oxygen sensors and now the exhaust manifold. I became upset after this series of burdens on me, so, I decided to conduct research on-line. Thus, I found numerous reports and similar complaints from fellow Honda Civic owners. It appears civcis created between 1992-2000 have had deffective exhaust manifolds causing many consumers to have to fight to get a resolution through Honda, the manufacturer. Honda is reviewing each vehicle on an individual basis, rather than admitting that their product, widespread, is deffective.

7 Emission Control problem of the 1997 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/20/2005

I brought my 1997 Honda Civic in for a recurring problem which was covered under an warranty issued by Honda for resetting an emissions problem in 1997 Civics. This is the seventh time I had to have this light reset. The warranty was for up to 150k miles. This time I had 152k miles. I was told from now on I would have to pay a $85 diagnostic fee plus repair. This is unfair as this is a recurring problem that has not been corrected. As this occurs on average every 12,000 miles I could have to pay this diagnostic fee of $85 plus parts for a recurring problem that has not been fixed. Note that a coworker who has the same car had brought the car in nine times. This dealer replaced the catalytic converter on her car and the light has not come back on. When I brought the car in for the repair above I was told that Honda would not repair the car until all the non-Honda parts in the area affected were replaced. The total of these parts was $227. This would be in addition to the $85 diagnostic fee. I was told by the service manager that they would not even look at the car until the non-Honda parts were replaced. I asked if they could reset the engine light as they had in the past and was told no. I asked for the car back and did not replace the parts. I was charged the $85 diagnostic fee. The light is now off and the car runs fine. I have driven another 6,000 miles since that time and the light has not come back on. The owner's manual states that genuine Honda parts are recommended; it does not say they are required. The owner's manual should state explicitly that the use of Honda only parts is required or dealer may not service the car. I feel this is a violation of my right to patronize a certified service facility. If extended this type of policy could be ruinous to non-dealer service facilities. I opened a case with american Honda and they said that dealers are independently owned and operated and they could do nothing. This whole policy exploits the public.

8 Emission Control problem of the 1999 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/25/2004

The Honda Civic 1999 will not pass state emissions test not because of the catalytic converter (which from what I understand is covered no matter what), but because of the oxygen sensor. Honda claims even after the warranty is up any problems associated with failing emissions test are covered no questions asked. My question is why hasn't there been a recall on this piece. Many who have this model are complaining about the exact problem. I have put a lot of money into this car and it seems more problems occur. I was told until I get the sensor replaced, I should put a higher level of gas(89/93) in the car, which means more money out of my pocket. Also, the car vibrates uncontrollably at high speeds and while stopped, it feels as if it is going to stall. I was never informed of the recall on the ignition piece. Hopefully, Honda will fix that problem. The oxygen sensor needs to be replaced by Honda.

12 Emission Control problem of the 2000 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/25/2003

Honda Civic 2000 model. Car only had 15600 miles when the problem started. Une 25, 2003 - malfunction indicator light was on. Honda adjusted the valves. June 28, 2003 - malfunction indicator light was on. Honda replaced oxygen sensor. July 3, 2003 - malfunction indicator light was on. Honda changed pressure regulator. July 21, 2003 - car stalled and engine died. Honda replaced fuel filter, fuel pump set, ignition coil, ignition control module. Aug 25, 2003 - car stalled, engine running but no acceleration (does not move), car makes clacking noise. Honda said they will change the fuel tank and fuel pump. Car is still at Honda. My car has been to the dealers for the 5th time in less than 2 months. The down time is more than normal.

13 Emission Control problem of the 1997 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 02/13/2003

Since oct '02, I have had my car in and out of the dealership due to the recall for emissions. Each time, the check engine light has come on, I have taken it to the dealership and had the problem fixed. The first time, the computer went bad and was replaced. The second time, the O2 sensor went bad and the car stalled out on a busy interstate in nc where construction is being done and there are no shoulders to pull off on. I believe Honda should replace the entire emissions system covered under the warranty instead of costing their consumers time and a lot of aggravation by fixing the problems one at a time. This will absolutely be the last Honda I own due to this one situation. I'm sick of spending time in the dealership having to wait for them to tell me what the current problem is. A car that is 6 years old should not have to have the whole emissions system replaced in the first place. This is ridiculous and someone needs to fix it.

14 Emission Control problem of the 1999 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/01/2002

While driving engin check light came on, and consumer's noticed a 50% drop in gas mileage. Vehicle checked by dealer, who determined oxygen sensor had failed. Vehicle will not pass state emissions requirements.

15 Emission Control problem of the 2001 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/08/2002

The vehicle stalls when slowing- especially on off ramps or went entering traffic after traveling at highway speeds. The souce of the problem (as reported by many consumers about the same vehicle) is a software defect in the emissions control module that cause fuel to be withheld from the engine. Honda knew of this problem when they sold this dangerous car to me and did it anyway. They claim that they are navigating the epa to get approval, but my dealing have been contentious at best in getting information. There should be a recall issued because this is a systemic problem. The millions of dollars in fines have obviously not taught them any more respect for consumers.

16 Emission Control problem of the 1999 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/15/2002

Oxygen sensor broke and petrol consumpton increased 2-3 times. Nlm.

17 Emission Control problem of the 1996 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/30/1999

With only 32,808 miles on my vehicle, I am replacing both the front and the rear oxygen sensors. This repair carries a price tag of over $500. I am out of warranty as the vehicle was purchased in April of 1996. There was a recall on the emissions system, but when I responded to the recall and visited the Honda dealer in my area, I was told to bring it back between the mileage range of 50,000 to 75,000 miles.
