Small pebble hit condenser on my 2008 Honda Civic while driving unbeknownst to me. The dealer says it has caused a small hole in condenser and has to be replaced. On examination damage is not readily noticeable. The car is only 3 mos. Old. I feel this is a design flaw, and have noted that many others have complained about the same problem, so it quite common. I think Honda should address the problem and fix it, and have it covered by warranty.

My 2006 Honda Civic has 55,000 miles on it. I went to drop my daughter off at karate when steam came out from under the hood. I brought it down the street to a certified mechanic, he looked at the car and found it had a cracked block. In his opinion it was the case of a defective casting. I contacted my dealer , and after fighting over who would pay for towing they towed it to the dealer they also confirmed that the block was cracked. They tried to make me pay for the defect and when their mechanic found out the car has a 5 year 60,000 mile warranty they turned around and will replace the engine for free. My concern is if this happens when driving there was so much steam that I probably would not see where I was driving.

I was at a stop light and had the a/c running it was working fine and blowing cold. While accelerating the light I heard a loud metal noise and thump and the air conditioner started blowing hot. I took the car to a dealer and they informed me that part of the air conditioner fell off, the fan clutch????, I am not a mechanic but I have never had problems with the air conditioner an I know parts of a car should not fall off while driving down the road. The air conditioner has never been worked on and the car is serviced regular, the car only has 87,000 miles. I am being told it will be about 1,400. 00 dollars to have this repaired.

2007 Honda Civic exa/c stopped working. Bought car 2/18/07 with 18 miles on it. Told by dealer rock probably hit condenser. Dealer could not show me where the puncture area was. Dealer indicated warranty would not cover repair. Before this happened, my air conditioning when turned on would rattle really bad, took it in for servicing, they tightened the drive belt, air conditioning was still rattling, they indicated that nothing was wrong. Now I have no air. I have researched other Honda owners and they have had the same problems. I have printed out many complaints about this happening to a/c condensers and the reasons that the dealer has given. This seems to be a defect in Honda's manufacturing of the car that happens to be a very costly repair to the consumer when it is not their fault.

I have had my 2005 Honda Civic for less then 5 months and I have already had to replace my a/c condenser once in may 08 and I have to do it again 6/08. It cost me about 500 to 600 dollars to fix this because of a design flaw. This is not my fault I don't drive like a crazy person. This is a flaw in the design and Honda should pay for it.
I took my 2008 Honda Civic into the dealer because the air conditioning wasn't working. They said it wasn't working because there was a hole in the ac condenser and that this wasn't covered by warranty. They indicated that this was a problem with Hondas but that this design defect wasn't covered by warranty. They could not guarantee that this would not happen again and again due to the defect but that it would not be covered under warranty. This would seem to me to be a good reason for a recall to fix the design problem if the ac unit is so vulnerable to puncture given its location and lack of protection from road debris.
I own a 2006 Honda Civic. While driving I noticed the a/c was not throwing cool air. I took the car to the dealer in brandon FL. The dealer stated that the condenser to the a/c was damaged due to a road hazard, something striking it through the grill. My car was still under warranty. I was told this was not covered under warranty. The repair bill that I paid was over $400. 00. My concern was addressed to a district manager, he stated that due to a road hazard Honda would not pay. I believe that a poor design feature by the manufacturer should not cost me.
I bought a Honda Civic sedan in 2007 and less than two months after I bought my air conditioner stopped working. I took it into the shop and without even looking at it they told me a rock probably hit my condenser and broke my a/c. This seems to be a known problem with Honda and it is a very expensive part to fix. I have been going a few month without a/c because I cannot afford such a repair. This should be covered under warranty or Honda should provide some type of protection over the condenser.

She received a recall letter pertaining to the failure. The dealer stated that the vehicle would be repaired in 5 days. She requested a rental vehicle at no cost; however, the manufacturer denied the request. The brakes had been replaced over four times in a period of 4 years which resulted in the struts being damaged. The transmission was replaced twice. The fuel pump, air conditioning system, alternator have also been repaired and the power locks were inoperable. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 128,000.

I just found out 10/23/2009 that my 2006 Honda Civic has a crack in the short block. Mind you I take very very good care of my vehicle and I take it to Honda for routine maintance. I have read over 100 post on different websites that have the same problem. I was so amazed and speechless.
Vehicle temperature rose and learned all coolant had leaked out. Turns out after Honda looked at engine casing cracked. Engine has 80,000 miles but there are people experiencing the same issue at 30,000.
Failure of 2 air conditioning systems in a 2000 Honda Civic, presently on a new 3rd system. Vehicle mileage is 35,000. Honda states that it is not responsible for the current failure.
On October-9-2001 my fianc㉠vincent jouenne and I purchased a 2001 Honda Civic ex (VIN # 2hges25791h619809) from roberts auto mall in downingtown, PA. We purchased a Honda because we desired a car that was dependable and one that would be used for my fiancã‰s commute and for driving long distances. In August of 2002, the car overheated on a journey from oneonta, NY, to phoenixville, PA. The car was brought to the Honda of ithaca dealership. At this point, the car was still under warranty, being under a year after time of purchase with 18,717 miles. Honda of ithaca, new york determined the problem to be the thermostat. Despite the obvious inconvenience that this breakdown caused, we were happy the problem was resolved while the car was under warranty. In December 2003 on a trip from phoenixville, PA to holmdel, NJ the car again overheated. A local mechanic determined the problem to be the thermostat. No longer under warranty, the thermostat was replaced at a cost to us of $106. 43. On February-4-2004 the problem manifested itself once again. The car was brought to roberts auto mall. The mechanic guessed that the problem was air in the system . We were charged $63. 49 for diagnostics. On March 10th, the car again overheated. We are now using one vehicle while our Honda Civic sits outside unused. I am unsure how to proceed since every mechanic has so far been unable to repair the problem with the cooling system. Our complaint can be summarized as such: this problem is intrinsic to the car. It appeared while the car was under warranty and has never been properly corrected. It is not the result of abuse or damage to the car but is a manufacturer defect. We have incurred monetary loss due to repeated towing and repairs made after the expiration of the warranty. Other than these expenses, we have experienced the trauma of being stranded on highways at night, and being at a loss of our vehicle when one is needed to commute to work.
"black death syndrome"--where the compressor starts seizing up and shredding the a/c cluth into metal shaving into the a/c system. A very known issue to Honda technicians and can even get it fixed out of warranty out of goodwill. The a/c will just give out one day there and they will actually have to open up the compressor to see if this is the cause. Any year and model!.
My engine starts to overheat while idling for periods longer than a few minutes, especially when it's hot out. Using the a/c tremendously speeds up the overheating process. Turning on the heater cools it down back to normal. I have checked the fluids and performed a radiator flush, as well as checking belts and the fan.

The contact owns a 2002 Honda Civic. The contact took the vehicle into the dealer for routine maintenance and was told that the air cleaner assembly could cause problems with the throttle body and prevent the vehicle from slowing down. The dealer stated NHTSA recall campaign number: 01v329000 (engine and engine cooling), which was related to the failure, but the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was unknown, but the current mileage was 135,000. Updated 06/03/11 *b.
