2 Engine Failure problem of the 2005 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/06/2019

Overheating lead to cracked block and eventually complete engine failure. Starting 2006-? there has been a recall on these engines. After looking at many Honda Civics for sale this seems to be common problem spanning more years. I believe the recall should be expanded.

3 Engine Failure problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/06/2018

I have a 2017 Honda Civic with the 1. 5 liter turbo. I started seeing lots of information on the Civic forum about oil dilution so I decided to have my engine oil analyzed. The report came back saying that the amount of fuel in my oil was greater than 5% which was deemed critical . This condition will cause engine failure and possible unsafe conditions.

4 Engine Failure problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/14/2016

I was recently informed by a Honda repair shop that my 2006 Honda Civic had a cracked engine block. The serviceman recommended that I contact Honda USA regarding a technical service bulletin that was issued. I contact Honda and they acknowledged that this was a problem with this vehicle, however they cannot pay for the repair because the extended warranty expired. I explained that I brought the car used would not have known that there was such a serious issue with the car unless I needed a repair at a dealership. I have spoken to two representatives so far and received the same "standard" answer. "we acknowledge there is a problem of this type with the car and that's why we issued the extended warranty. " I explained that this is obviously a wide spread issue with the vehicle and Honda should stand behind it's product by paying 100% of the repair cost with no time or mileage limit. As an owner of two acuras and a Honda, I am extremely disappointed with my experience with their approach to consumer complaints regarding this car. This defect is not the customers fault. I am continuing to pursue a resolution that ends with Honda taking full responsibility for the defect in these cars. I pray that someone does not get seriously hurt before Honda finally makes this right or NHTSA forces them to issue a full recall. I now have the vehicle sitting in my driveway and cannot drive it because of the many testimonials that describe that doing so will result in a catastrophic engine failure that will result in a total engine replacement. As an Acura and Honda owner, I am becoming more and more skeptical about Honda as a company that I had always regarded as very good in the past.

5 Engine Failure problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/24/2016

Takata recall - I use this vehicle as a family car, it is now considered unsafe to have passengers in my front seat. As of now the parts are not available to make my car safe. This is unacceptable as the only option I have is to purchase another vehicle, or rent a vehicle, in order to safely transport my family. Also, my vehicle has an engine recall that was not properly communicated to me (the second owner), which has now led to the potential for catastrophic engine failure.

6 Engine Failure problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 02/05/2016

The 2016 Civics with 2. 0 liter motors have and been put on a "stop sale" are going to be recalled due to the possibility of engine failure, damage, and even possibility of engine compartment fires due to possibly having faulty piston snap rings. I bought one a week before this "stop sale" and I am apparently going to be forced to drive a vehicle that may have a potentially life threatening defect until they fix it which will not be until this summer according to Honda customer service. I was given a claim number and I have requested a rental from Honda so that I can stop driving the vehicle until they make sure it is safe. "engine failure" on any roads much less a busy highway is dangerous and an obvious major problem, and I am more concerned about what could happen to my toddler if my brand new Honda Civic dies on me or catches fire. Will someone rear end me? will I be stuck in traffic? who knows. I just hope Honda does something for their loyal customers who have already purchased this vehicle, considering it's serious enough that it can not be currently sold by dealerships until fixed. .

7 Engine Failure problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/30/2016

Piston clip ring recall from Honda with no fix until mid-March as told by Honda customer service. Recall not publicly released by Honda at this time. The result of this part failure is engine failure, and/or stalling. It is unsafe to drive this vehicle with such looming and unresolved issues.

8 Engine Failure problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/29/2016

I was sold a 2016 Honda Civic on the day (January 29, 2016) that american Honda notified NHTSA of a ¿stop-sale¿ and I am forced to drive a vehicle that may have a potentially life threatening defect until they fix it. Honda was aware of the problem, and I should not have been sold a vehicle with a safety concern as great as engine failure.

10 Engine Failure problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/17/2011

1. I had all recommended service, including oil changes, performed on my 2008 Honda Civic hybrid since I purchased it new, with receipts to prove this, and never had a problem with this car prior to this incident. 2. The engine failed catastrophically, with no alert or warning light, on a highway at ~55mph during rush-hour traffic. 3. The failed engine was replaced with a used engine, as recommended by the Honda service location where I had the car towed. The service manager never provided an explanation of what did or might have happened, and he reported that everything about the engine seemed appropriate except for the fact that it had "siezed". Honda provided no financial assistance, because the warranty had expired, offered no explanation or understanding, several times spoke unprofessionally and, therefore, lost a customer.

11 Engine Failure problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/25/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Honda Civic. The contact received a notification from the manufacturer regarding a three year extended warranty associated with the engine block. The contact was in disagreement with the three year warranty coverage due to his vehicle exhibited low mileage, and that he would not be able to take advantage of the warranty if he were to experience engine failure after the three year warranty extension. There was no failure mileage.

12 Engine Failure problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/21/2010

I received a notice from Honda corporation that the warranty on my 2007 Honda Civics engine block has been extended to eight years from date of purchase. I read online that the engine blocks will crack as a result of defective casting at the time the engine blocks were manufactured. I've read online many, many complaints of cracked blocks as a result of this defect. This needs to be a recall and not a warranty extension. This defect will result in complete engine failure and put my family at risk on the highway. Also, this defect will severely devalue my car for sale or trade in value. Honda CO. Needs to fix this problem that they are responsible for.

13 Engine Failure problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/14/2010

Honda owners have reported engine block failures on 2006-2009 Honda Civics where cracks form at the bottom and allow engine coolant to escape. Honda has acknowledged the defect with an extended warranty but has not agreed to fix the problem until it happens. The issue I have is that there may be no warning of when the 6 cracks will appear and since the coolant escape is in the engine block rather than say a hose there might be no warning until the engine fails and stalls from thermal stresses. This could pose a safety hazard if it happens on a crowded freeway where the driver cannot quickly pull to the side of the road. Note: I had to enter an incident date to continue although this has not happened to my car yet.

14 Engine Failure problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/12/2010

Engine failure in 2007 Honda Civic lx with no warning lights. Engine seized and had to be replaced. Dangerous situation as car gives no warning of problem and just stalls.
