1 Engine Stall problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/25/2020

On my Honda Civic I have the oil dilution problem which was verified by a mechanic. When I had the oil change they said gasoline came out with the oil. Two days before I went to get the oil change the fuel in the oil caused my engine to stall and me and my friend almost got rear ended by many cars flying up on us. We were barely able to get just barely inches off the freeway but every car came within inches of hitting our car and almost killing us. After a while the car eventually started back up and we continued down the freeway only to have the car stall again and we nearly getting hit again by another car. I'm actually afraid to even drive my car now after this incident and I've been reading about other people online having the same problem. I think this is a serious safety concern and Honda should recall mine and others cars as soon as possible for this could cause fatalities. I have the 1. 5 l turbo engine by the way and I've heard complaints about others with this motor with the same exact problem. I'm not sure exactly how the fuel mixing with the oil causes the engine to stall. All I know is consumer reports has other people mentioning their engine stalling. I believe it could be something the engine detects in the oil and shuts the engine down as a way of protecting it from possible low oil pressure because of the fuel. By the way I haven't had any problems with the car for two years and this is the first incident that has happened. Recently over the last couple months I haven't been driving that much and therefore the oil was diluting with the fuel more than normal so that may have something to do with it. And also I live in a hot climate in northern California. Honda thinks that it's only happening in colder colder climates which is absolutely absurd. You can literally smell gasoline on the dipstick and the dipstick was 1/2 qt. Over. Still had 50% oil life.

Engine will begin to stall out if speed is 25mph or under causing an abrupt and noticeable decrease in speed resulting in people having to swerve to avoid hitting me. Change oil light constantly flashes across the odometer and will not reset no matter what I do.

7 Engine Stall problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/06/2019

On 3/6/19 I was driving home on I-95 north when, without warning, my Civic redlined and overheated. I had the car towed to rockingham Honda in rockingham, nh and the mechanic, dan, diagnosed my car with a cracked engine block. After some research it was discovered that '06-'09 Hondas had faulty engines knowingly installed which resulted in Honda of America issuing a warranty extension for 10 years for this cracked engine block error. I purchased this vehicle on 8/14/15 completely unaware of the faulty engine, the extended warranty, or the cost it would be to me. I contacted Honda of America on 3/7/19 to inquire about the warranty and the complimentary replacement/repairs for their poor craftsmanship. I was informed that the warranty expired and does not apply to me since I am not the original owner of the car. Turns out Honda only sent out one notice of the warranty extension and it went to the first owners of the Hondas who purchased the cars off a dealership lot. Secondhand owners, like me, had no chance of even knowing there was a recall or opportunity to get this "time bomb" of a repair fixed until it's too late. After a month of having no car and communicating with Honda of America and the mechanic, rockingham Honda quoted the repair to cost $5,600 (which is twice the amount of what kelley blue book values the car to be worth). Honda of America said that since I have no record of getting the car serviced at any of their locations that it's "not they're problem" the warranty expired and I had no knowledge of the offer. There are thousands of people who bought '06-'09 used Hondas, are driving a with a faulty engine, completely unaware of the danger and damages they are about to incur due to Honda's inability to follow up with their product.

10 Engine Stall problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/22/2017

While driving down the highway, vehicle ran hot. I pulled off the road, left the car until it cooled, added water, and brought it home. The repair shop said I had a crack in the engine block. A used engine would cost $2100. I don't know what a new one would cost. I was told I could go through the same problem with the used engine that I did have installed. I also was told about the technical service bulletin which was issued for this particular model. I talked with someone at Honda corporation and was told 2 times that they would do nothing because my 10 year extended warranty expired in August 2016. This incident happened on April 22, 2017 with 98500 miles on the car. If Honda knew there was a problem with workmanship or material, this should be covered no matter how long you have owned the car. I have sung Honda's praises for 20 years with 2 cars. My relationship with Honda has ended.

12 Engine Stall problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/20/2016

We bought this care brand new for my daughter from a Honda dealer. Two weeks later while my daughter was driving back home from school at an intersection in our neighborhood , engine went from 15mph to 6mph to zero. Engine completely failed. Later I found out that this model has been recalled for a problem with a piston ring . Honda service is telling us the a new engine will be installed on the car, dont know what to do , none of us in our family feels safe about driving this car , because if she was on the highway going 55mph and this happened, it would be a disastrous situation and we are so thankful that this did not happen. Honda roadside assistant came an towed the car to service department . This car has 320 miles on it.

13 Engine Stall problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 02/13/2016

Today I found out that Honda issued a recall of approximately 45,000 model year 2016 Civics in the u. S. And canada because the engine can stall while the car is in motion. This is due to a piston clip that was not installed or may have been improperly installed into the piston during assembly. I also found out that Honda sent a stop sale notice to all dealers on February 2nd however; my 2016 Civic car was sold to me on February 13th from a Honda dealer located in phoenix, az. I did contact the dealer and am taking my car in tomorrow but I read that the part or inspecting instruments won't even be available until the end of March. Not sure if the dealer will even be able to inspect my car tomorrow but I feel very unsafe driving a car that could potentially have a very serious issue. Can't believe Honda is putting lives at risk until the new part and inspecting instrument are available.

Started car drove it to work, about a mile into drive engine stalled, car started to sputter, then stall again. Took to mechanic, it was a faulty ignition switch. 1997-2000 Honda Civic models were involved in a faulty ignition switch recall, I wonder if 2001 should have been included as well.

16 Engine Stall problem of the 2012 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/27/2014

I was driving on an exit ramp from a highway, car was coasting, and as I was approaching the stop sign, I applied the breaks softly, the car started slowing down further due to breaking and then suddenly came to a brutal stop with tires screeching. Engine was stalled, automatic gear had shifted in neutral by itself, and there was a burning smell in the car. Fortunately there was no car behind me, otherwise it would have not been possible to prevent being rear-ended. The 25 mph speed is approximate as I was decelerating. A similar situation on a highway when traffic slows down could have dramatic consequences, causing a pile-up and possibly multiple deaths and injuries. I will drive the car very carefully to the dealership today. The car was purchased certified pre-owned yesterday.

17 Engine Stall problem of the 1999 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/15/2013

The car engine stalls while driving soon after starting. It will happen typically while the car starts hot, either if the weather is hot or if the car was already warm from driving. The engine will also fail to stay started unless I turn the starter engine over a few times extra. I believe this is a result of the faulty ignition switch which was recalled for similar vehicle models.

18 Engine Stall problem of the 2012 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/12/2012

During test drive and multiple times since, engine bogs down or stalls when accelerating in traffic. Honda service dept. Checked car and found no apparent problems. Car has been returned several times with no satisfaction. Service manager said the hesitation was due to a safety feature that disengages the accelerator when touching the brake. Several times the car has stalled with no use of brakes. This "safety feature" is a safety hazard. My wife and I have almost been involved in several accidents because car stalls in traffic. This is a definite "safety hazard".

23 Engine Stall problem of the 2000 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/10/2002

5 speed - engine stalls while in fifth gear. Have to pull car over and restart. Car taken repeatedly to repair and no problems could be found. Finally looked up recalls on insurance company's web site and saw recall for engine switch. Took car to dealer to repair and egnition switch replaced. Stall happened again. Called Honda customer service and was informed there were no recalls on cars in my VIN sequence. Said I would have to take car to dealer again for repair. No one can seem to tell me why the car keeps stalling. It only happens when I'm driving in 5th gear at 50+ speeds. Situation is scary because of the speeding traffic around me. Not sure what else I can do. Dt.

28 Engine Stall problem of the 2002 Honda Civic

While making a turn on highway, the vehicle will shutdown without prior warning. The dealership is aware of the problem. The consumer states that the engine stalls after making turns and pushing in clutch to downshift. The only way to recover the operation of the power brakes and the power steering is to allow the vehicle to stall completely and then popping the clutch or cranking with the key. If the clutch is allowed out when a stall starts, then the vehicle will lurch and shutter until it recovers well after a corner. The dealership states that this is a problem with all the 1. 7 l 5 speed Civic line. American Honda is working on the problem and think it is in the programming of fuel injection.
