1 Rear Suspension problem of the 2010 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/10/2011

There was a lot of noise from the front end. I took to the dealer (mary sussman Honda, abington, PA) and they told me I needed a front end brake job (pads, rotor polishing etc). Two days ago (9/27/12) I had to take to have my rear bearing replaced and they told me I needed front brakes again. Now mileage is 44,500, so only ~18,000 miles from last repair. I think two brake jobs at 40k miles is not right.

4 Rear Suspension problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/10/2011

The contact owns a 2007 Honda Civic. The contact stated the rear tires were abnormally pointed inward and causing the tires to wear down unevenly and prematurely. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told they would have to replace the tire arm for both rear wheels. The contact feels the failure was a manufacturers defect because of how the vehicle was designed. The failure and current mileage was 77,000.

5 Rear Suspension problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/20/2011

Rear tires wear uneven in a short time span. No mechanical issue can be found by mechanics. Car is properly aligned. Go through rear tires every 20,000 miles. Very dangerous situation, tires can wear bald in 100 miles after they start to wear uneven. This is an engineering issue. Rear of car jumps when going over bumps and can cause driver to loose control.

6 Rear Suspension problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/25/2011

The contact owns a 2006 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 mph, they began feeling a vibration and heard a roaring noise in the rear of the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic and was told the problem came from a combination of the tires and rear wheels geometry displacement. The failure caused inner edge wear on the tires, vibration and a roaring noise. The contact spoke to the manufacturer and was told that this was a known problem, but the component was no longer under warranty. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 107,000 and the current mileage was 110,000.

7 Rear Suspension problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/18/2011

The suspension of the cars is not calibrated correctly per my dealer. This leads to premature tire wear which could lead to failure of the tires.

8 Rear Suspension problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/16/2011

There is a well documented defect in the Honda Civic between years of 2006-2009 for the rear upper arm suspension. There still is a defect in the geometry by . 75 degrees and is the reason for early tire wearing. All four of my tires started to wear earlier than usage performed on tire. Around 20,000 miles there was early excessive wear noted. I couldn't figure out why there was so much wear on my tires. I had to replace them at 30-34000 miles and believe it is due to the defect in the rear upper arms. I am concerned that this is safety issue and someone needs to look into this and demand Honda to make a recall for this. Many consumers are complaining about this issue and class action suits have been filed. Despite the replacement arm, there still are documents that state excessive tire wear and replacement.

9 Rear Suspension problem of the 2009 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 02/28/2011

The contact owns a 2009 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the rear suspension failed and was causing both rear tires to wear prematurely. There were several bumps found in various locations of the tires. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that the tires would need rotating every two to three thousands miles. They offered no other assistance to repair the suspension of the vehicle. The manufacturer was not contacted and the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 22,500.

10 Rear Suspension problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 02/21/2011

2007 Honda Civic si rear end noise and tire wear took back to dealer they stated they know about the problem and they will not fix it what I been hearing there is a big problem nation wide Honda needs a recall before someone die's from a tire blowing out.

11 Rear Suspension problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

Rear camber not in spec caused pre-mature inner tire wear posing a potential safety risk. Rear camber is not adjustable. Honda has not offered a fix.

12 Rear Suspension problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/18/2010

I have a 2006 Honda Civic ex sedan. I have experienced rapid and uneven tire wear on both rear tires. I rotated the tires in March 2010 and at that time, the wear was fairly even on all four tires with about 50% of the tread left. I purchased the tires in August of 08. During the winter months I use snow tires. The tires have about 25,000 to 30,000 miles on them. Since March 2010, I've driven the car about 10,000 miles. Now the rear left tire is showing extreme wear on the inside with uneven wave patterns and the rear right tire is warn all the way down to the steel belts. I found out because my car failed inspection. I've also noticed a loud roar coming from the rear of the car at highway speeds. I began to notice the roar in July and took my car to the dealer to have them look at it. They said there was nothing wrong with the suspension and I just don't rotate my tires enough, even after I explained that I rotate my tires twice a year and just rotated them that previous March! the mechanic that did the inspection (who also sold me the tires) said that there is no way that such a sever wear pattern could develop unless there was something wrong with the rear suspension. I called the Honda dealer again while at the state inspection station and told them of the problem and tried to set up an appointment to have the rear suspension looked at. They again told me that there was nothing wrong with the suspension and that the wear was my fault because I didn't rotate the tires enough. Then the dealer tried to sell me a set of tires over the phone! my mechanic said that the rear tire wear presents a very dangerous situation and that the right tire especially, could blow at any time. It appears that Honda knows about this problem as it is described in their service bulletin 08-001. I don't know what to do to get them to fix this dangerous problem.

13 Rear Suspension problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/15/2010

My 2007 Honda Civic gets uneven rear tire wear referred to as cupping with an accompanying vibration and noise. Honda has issued a service bulletin, 08-001 regarding this problem and the corrective action required to fix it. They denied that my vehicle had this problem and would not pay for any corrective action.

14 Rear Suspension problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/13/2010

Extreme vibration in rear suspension of 2008 Honda Civic ex. Third set of tires (current odometer reading is 64k miles) due to "cupping". Honda dealer states that cupping due to lack of rotation of tires and denies any history of suspension issues for this model.

15 Rear Suspension problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/02/2010

I also saw there is a TSB recall (Honda TSB 08-001) on the 2007 Civic but not on the si on replacing the rear arms. My 2007 Civic si has the same visible tire wear and tread cupping which would be fixed by the recall but my car is not included. The fix is a simple replacement of the rear chamber arms. I bought this car brand new and had it in on a recall for the 3rd gear. I'd like that same treatment and to be included on the recall to change my rear chamber arms. I'm annoyed that Honda will fix the problem on all the other trim lines but not the Civic si.

16 Rear Suspension problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/29/2010

I've had a problem with the rear tires wearing out quickly, and vibrations when traveling above 50 mph. Yesterday the right rear tire separated, and started smoking. I changed the tire and took the car in and the other rear tire had very unusual wear to the belt on the inner part. The same place the other tire separated. In looking this up on the internet it seems to be a common problem with the Honda Civics and the rear alignment being defective. This should be investigated before someone, if not already, is killed by such problem.

17 Rear Suspension problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/23/2010

Engine light consistently stays on dealer told me 1st time it needed a computer software up date 2nd time it overheated dealer told me it needed new thermostat. Both times I had to pay for a diagnostic test plus parts & labor. The same day I picked it up the light came on again and stayed. After reading all the complaints on this year and model my vehicle has the same issues (engine & rear suspension) but Honda always has an answer that never fixes the problem.

18 Rear Suspension problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/25/2010

Excessive tire wear and loud noise from rear of vehicle. We have replaced two sets of tires, once at 11,000 miles and at 36,000 miles and they are again worn at 58,461 miles. We learned of a service bulletin, service bulletin number : 08-001 date of bulletin : Feb 08, 2008, issued by Honda and after much complaining since we were a few hundred miles past the 3 year 36,000 mile mark the dealer made the repairs and aligned the car. We have rotated the tires regularly and the loud noise is back as well as excessive tire wear. I find it ridiculous to have to replace tires like this because the tire warranty is void because the tread in one section is beyond the limit for replacement. The Honda dealer is claiming we have not rotated the tires enough/properly which seems to be a common excuse for others complaining about the problem to Honda.

19 Rear Suspension problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/25/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Honda Civic. While traveling 45 mph the contact noticed a rubbing sound coming from the bottom of the rear driver side of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the failure could not be determined. There were no prior warnings. The failure mileage was 28000 and the current mileage was 33000.

20 Rear Suspension problem of the 2005 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/20/2010

2005 Honda Civic with 60,000 miles on the odometer. Replaced rear tires about 10,000 miles ago, and the new tires are cupped on the inside, causing extreme noise from the rear of the car and some vibration. The original tires wore very well. Rear tire wear is significant. New front tires are wearing evenly. This problem seems to be very common in Honda Civics.

21 Rear Suspension problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

Just wanted to give a shout out to Honda. . . For leaving me freaking high and dry holding a repair bill they created. I know now the problem is well documented. . . Too bad it's people on the freaking internet helping out, rather than Honda. Sorry. . . But it's absolutely horrible for this "service bulletin" to get swept under the carpet and not sent to the owners of the affected vehicles. I can understand why Honda doesn't want to do a recall on it. . . It'd be very costly. However, they should have been required to send this "service bulletin" to all owners, and then they could have the option to change the part if they had been experiencing issues of ridiculous excessive tire wear. I know exactly what Honda is hoping. . . That most of the owners of these cars will find out there is a problem after the warranty expires. . . Like I did. . . Nice Honda. . . Afreakingp'reciate it. I mean heck. . . It takes thousands upon thousands of miles to realize your tires are wearing out prematurely. And even after you replace the tires, you just kinda just chalk it up that you simply needed a new set. It's not until you go through maybe that 2nd set, when you start to think. . . Is it my imagination, or are these tires wearing faster than they should? being that I was a student in 2007, I could only afford to replace two tires at a time. It came out of nowhere how fast the tires degraded. . . Sounded like a damn helicopter was about to land on my roof. . . The rear tires were bad. I replaced the two tires at a walmart service center. Within six months I had to replace the other tires I hadn't replaced the last time. Full circle. . . 10 months later and sounding like the back of the car is going to fall off. Kinda sounds like when you open up only one window (three inches or so) going down the road at 70 miles an hour. . . Bop. . Bop. . . Bop. . Bop. . Bop over and over.

22 Rear Suspension problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/26/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Honda Civic ex coupe. While driving 55 mph the contact noticed that the rear end of the vehicle began to vibrate excessively. When the vehicle was examined he noticed that the rear tires were worn on the inside. He contact the dealer and was advised that they would assist him with the cost of replacing the tires. He located a technical service bulletin that identified the rear tire failure was due to a defective rear suspension geometry. The vehicle will be repaired by the dealer. The manufacturer will be notified. The current mileage was 14,391. The failure mileage was 14,900.

23 Rear Suspension problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/21/2010

Rear tires eaten to the point of failure within 10,000 miles. No camber adjustment for 2007 Honda Civic. Discussion with Honda dealership resulted in the suggestion that I file a complaint as Honda american will not honor their own ts document(tb 08-001) without additional approval from Honda of America. Honda of american requires a complaint, an investigation, and approval by a regional manager. Additional follow-up appears to be nothing more than road blocks for car owners at the expense of safety. The dealership admits a repair kit is available for about $100, not including any tire replacement.

24 Rear Suspension problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/15/2010

Premature tire wearout - extreme shake, especially ay highway speeds. Dealer said nothing is wrong, even though they asked me if it was shaking/vibrating. Tires will not pass inspection & need to be replaced. (they were actually worn at 20k) car handles horrible in inclement weather. Based on other complaints, I expect this to be an issue every 20k until Honda steps up and admits they have a rear suspension issue with the '08s.

25 Rear Suspension problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/21/2009

The rear tires have worn out at 12000 and again at 23000 miles. Two different manufacturers of tires and all rotations and alignments were accomplished on schedule. Tire manufacturers will not accept responsibility and Honda has stated that they are not responsible for tire failures. There are many more people listed on various internet auto problem sites that have encountered exactly the same problem as I have with the same make and model vehicle. The wheel alignment shops that I have contacted insist that there is a problem with the suspension of this vehicle and weight distribution (heavy in front, light in rear) compounds the problem.

26 Rear Suspension problem of the 2009 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/18/2009

Purchased car Dec 18/2009 upon driving it home noticed that there was a vibration. Did not think too much about it as there was alot of snow, assumed that there was snow in the rims, drove the car very little at first. Busy life continued to drive in the spring assuming that maybe the vibration was due to the mud on the country roads. June 10/10 . Had the wheels balanced at 5505 km because of the vibration. At 9842 km had oil changed note says tires do not need rotation front @ 8. 5/32 and back at 8/32. At 22,526 km front 2 and left rear tires all at 7/32 but rr rear tire at 5/32 premature wear, was told that problem due to mud inpacted in tire. Repalced rr rear tire with used one , date June 25/10. Odometer now reads 32,606 and it is sept 15/10- time for winter tires. Replace summer tires for winter ones. Keep summer tires for 2011 summer. Drive approx. 10,000 km and take to tire shop for rotation only to be told does not need rotation. Bring back car at 52,547 km for rotation only to find out rr rear tire has a flat spot . Took to Honda who told us that the tire needed replacement and they checked the rear and front suspension. , adjusting the rear suspension to the max. At the same time they mentioned that the front and rear rotors needed machining- premature wear on these as well. They said that they could tear the right rear suspension apart but that would take awhile, I said go ahead. They then decided not to do it. So we took the car home after the alignment and told the tire shop that they needed to provide us with a new tire. The tire shop manager was very , very angry. He prorated the old tire and we had to paid for the used portion. Drove the car just under 10,000 km with new tire, so no wear to report at that time, odometer now 61915. Changed over new tires to original summer ones. Odometer now apprx. 64,000km , right rear tire upped and inside worn. Currently trying to get in contact with Honda dealership once again. . . . .

27 Rear Suspension problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/20/2009

Uneven tread wear on the rear tires from the inside. High and low spots on tire the second time that this has happened.

28 Rear Suspension problem of the 2009 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/09/2009

2008 Civic coupe lx with bridgestone el 400 tires began shaking and vibrating at 13,000 miles. Regular maintenance and tire rotations are on record, yet zimmerman Honda in rock island, IL claims that the uneven tire wear and subsequent second set of tires to be replaced are my fault and will be at my expense. I did a little research and discovered that the '06 and '07 Civics have a service bulletin for the "c" arm leading to uneven tire wear. Obviously the problem was never fixed during the assembly for the newer models of Honda Civics. Car is now at 27,000 miles, needing new tire again!!!!! cost so far is $600 and I am very unhappy with Honda and its dealers. I feel as if I am getting the runaround and am made to feel as if their manufacturers defects are my fault. If the problem is not resolved I will take my business (8 cars my family has purchased from Honda since 2000 and 27 recommendations since 2002) somewhere else. Very disappointed with Honda! I guess someone will have to die before they admit any guilt in this.

29 Rear Suspension problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/01/2009

Premature tirewear & tire roar on rear tires. Also premature brake pad replacement on front disc brakes. Original tires replaced at 41,591 miles. New tires have approx. 15,500miles. Front disc pads replaced at 33,489. Car now has 57,096miles .

30 Rear Suspension problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/01/2009

Excessive tire wear on 2006 Honda Civic. Tires wearing out @ 20000-30000 km. Unsafe handling on snow, ice and bumps. Back end of car "sways" and slides to one side.

31 Rear Suspension problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/27/2009

Vehicle is on 3rd set of tires at 54,000 miles. Through search, located Honda service bulletin date 01/22/2008 that rectifies the problem. However, first set of original turanzas lasted 22,000 miles and bridgestone blamed Honda. 2nd set lasted just 30,000 miles. Honda charged $32 to repair problem, but should have reported to customers when they issued service bulletin. Customer is out the cost of tires (approx. $400).

32 Rear Suspension problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/11/2009

Purchased 2008 Civic in may 2008 and have had regular service done at dealer. Tires worn unevenly and some cupping of rear tires occurred. Noticed at last service appointment. Car had 29,700 miles at that time. Since tires were rotated at that time I have noticed aggravating road noise and steering wheel vibration. Dealer balanced tires which seemed to help for a little while, but did not cure the problem.

33 Rear Suspension problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/03/2009

Although have had tires rotated and balanced at 10,000. At 13,000 noticed tire noise and discovered cupping and uneven wear on rear tires. Honda dealer in lancaster, PA said could do nothing, not even check alignment unless I paid. I had alignment checked at another garage. All is within specs. He said a lot of the Civics have this problem. He put the best 2 tires on front. I inflate my tires to 36 lbs so that tires ride on center and make less noise. Present mileage 18,000.

34 Rear Suspension problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/15/2009

I have a 2008 Honda Civic coupe at approximately 18,000 miles rear-end noise started, at 20,000 miles it became unbearable. The car was taken to battle creek Honda and they told us the rear tires were cupped and the rear wheels were out of alignment. Had to align the car and replace tires with 20,000 miles. The car also handles very poorly in snow and wet road conditions.

35 Rear Suspension problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/02/2009

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Civic. While driving at various speeds ranging from 35 to 65 mph, he noticed a vibration in the rear end of the vehicle. The dealer stated that the vibration was due to a negative camber. The current mileage was 13000 and the failure mileage was 5500.
