Honda Civic owners have reported 35 problems related to suspension noise (under the suspension category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Honda Civic based on all problems reported for the Civic.
When turning left or right or veering left or right the rear tires (mainly the left one) screeches and sounds like metal is grinding on metal. It is coming from somewhere in the tire to middle of the suspension. But when going straight or stopping there is no noise.

This is related to suspension. . . Three issue I have observed 1. The tires on my Civic 2007 have uneven wear. . . I changed my tires about 2 years ago and could see the uneven wear on the old tired. . That time I ignored it assuming it to be an alignment issue. . . However the new tires are also wearing out unevenly and that after after proper alignment. The last time I got tires rotated the mechanic suggested there is likely some faulty suspension. Now I firmly believe it. 2. I hear a pop/cluncking sound when going over bumps. 3. I hear a click/pop sound coming from the front wheels when turning.

I am a unsuspecting consumer that bought a vehicle that was for sale without discloure of the true condition including brand history. I purchase an unsafe car for my daughter and the second day the break fail and the steering wheel stifness. My daughter took it for a oil change my mechanic said it have a lot of problems oil leak, axle damage, suspension noise. I took it to have the muffler check my mechanic said the muffler had a rotten pipe and two donut gasket that need to replaced which I did. The code present p1259 - vtec solenoid and oxygen sensor. I requested the car fax and it said that it had three minor accidents, three owners, mileage inconsistency. My daughter said while driving the car the speed odometer only goes to sixty miles when speed up and it will not go any further. I never saw a title, sign a transfer form, or go down with him to the court house to get the sticker and transfer paper work. My daughter had to jump out of the car while parking the car. It started smoking like it was on fire. I informed mr. Andrew juma that the car was a junk and I wanted my money back. It has been thirteen days since I purchase the car and I have not got my money back. He made sure that the address where he is located was written wrong, the name of his business was incorrect, the VIN no. Was written incorrect, the odemeter at the time of purchase was not documented on the buyers ower invoice. I purchase this car at a exxon gas station. I sent him a demand letter and I have not gotten any responce. The car is parked infront of my home and my daughter cannot drive the car.

I search on the internet that a lot of 2012 Civic owners experiencing the same annoying problems like clunking noise on the suspension or under the car, loud noise when shifting to reverse like axle shaft is disengaging, loud noise when putting pressure on the brake, clunking or popping noise when turning left or right, rolling noise on the seat belts, clunking loud noise when accelerating and releasing gas pedal, rattling noise in the morning while warming up the engine and also when accelerating. Atf leaking on the transmission because one of the bolts is not tightened. . . Etc. I think this 2012 Honda Civic models should be recall by american Honda motors. You can check the internet how many people are complaining and dealer said it was normal!!!?????? it is very annoying. I am only concern about my safety and the safety of my family. I hope the us goverment should do something about it. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2009 Honda Civic. While driving 45 mph, a clicking and popping noise emitted from under the hood. The failure recurred several times without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. In addition, the vehicle started making a squeaking sound when making a turn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the front end suspension on both the passenger and driver sides of the vehicle was defective. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 5,971.

I have a new set of tires and I am surprise when you start moving it makes noise that seems coming from the wheels/tires and goes away when you slow down. It's more audible in the rear, I don't know if its the suspension or rear control arms that wear out during the years.
My car was having uneven wear of the tires and went to get the tires replaced from firestone, since they were still under warranty. They told me it was the alignment issue, so paid for alignment and new set of tires. Not even 6 months and I started getting humming noise again from the rear side. Turned out that my rear tires were again experiencing the uneven wear. Since on the way back from a road trip, it was only after 1000 miles that I went back to the mechanic. By this time, the noise was like machine gun with car at 70mph. Firestone again refused and I took the car to my mechanic ( midas) and he replaced the shocks, seems like that slowed down the wear of the tires but it is still loose and is slowly getting the same problem. I tried talking to Honda, but at that time there was no TSB on rear suspension and control arms and the cost they told was like my arm and leg. I don't know how to approach on this problem now. I went online and saw that a lot of people were having the same problem, so joined the community and signed the petition but did not hear from them either.

The front left suspension began to exhibit a metallic clunk noise when driving over bumps. The concern was that this problem would lead to a total failure of the front suspension system. A Honda dealer assessed the cause to be a failed front suspension bumper stop, which has a Honda service bulletin, number 07-078 (NHTSA number 10043607), dated March 2, 2012. This technical service bulletin was accomplished on the vehicle.
I noticed a noise coming from the rear end of the vehicle so I took it to the nearest Honda dealership. The dealership told me that the rear tires were severely cupped and needed to be replaced. The also recommended a four wheel alignment. Although the car is still covered under its 3 year 36000 mile warranty, I had to pay $366 out of pocket to have the rear tires replaced and the alignment done. When I viewed the alignment report all adjustments were within specified range prior to any adjustment being made. I believe there is either a problem with the goodyear eagle rs-a tires that were put on this car at the factory or there is some other underlying rear suspension issue that needs to be corrected.
On 8/15/11, vehicle was brought to a Honda chicago for lof & rotate. Dropped off, came back, drove vehicle found loud roaring noise. Tires were rotated then discovered the tire that came off r/r was cupped. Vehicle has 15k miles, barely driven by my mom that's in her 60s, doesn't travel the expressways. Honda chicago wouldn't do anything so I made a complaint with Honda care; was told bring it back to Honda. Honda chicago said, "sir, nothing wrong with the suspension and may possibly need an alignment. " I told the service advisor there was no complaint of pulling/drifting. Dealer and Honda care are useless, nothing was done so I paid for a new tire somewhere else. Last week, vehicle back at Honda elmhurst and then to Honda des plaines for a 2nd opinion for samething. Both dealers stated nothing wrong but the front tires currently have 3/32s, l/r 2/32s and r/r 6/32s. The dealership didn't even offer tires to be replaced. The vehicle currently has 18k miles on it, a ticking noise that comes for the vehicle when it's idling in reverse and the mysterious r/r tire concern. I contacted Honda care today spoke with a claim rep and requested to have a Honda regional rep or someone other than the dealership's mechanic to inspect the vehicle since it's been to 3 different dealerships. I also requested to be reimbursed for the r/r tire that was replaced. I was told, "we're not doing anything at this time and that I would need to take the vehicle back to the Honda dealership in elmhurst, IL and to have the service manager get involved. " the claim rep also stated that he spoke with the service manager of that same dealership and was told there's nothing wrong with the vehicle. I questioned the claim rep stated the service manager wasn't involved with the repairs on my vehicle, his service advisor was so of couse he would tell you what's on the invoice.
Rear suspension causes tires to prematurely wear out. After approximately 10,000 miles, I have to replace rear tires because of flat spots. The shop where I buy my tires will not even rotate my tires because of the flat spots. Honda has done nothing to remedy the problem. The noise resulting from the flat spots is obnoxious and it is obviously a safety concern.

Driving the car for one year now I have noticed that the brakes make a pop noise after going in reverse then forward, also a fews times the car brakes feel like its not really slowing the car down from freeway speeds and almost casued a few accidents by not providing enough braking power. The suspension is inadequet for the car it bottoms the rear of the car with <100 lbs inside. The car tends to jump forward when decelerating by coasting and applying the brakes right before the auto level is reached has almost caused a few accidents from the car jumping forward about 1-2 feet also feels like a whiplash effect when it does this. Also when going from 0 to 10 at an intersection to move quickly out of the intersection the car does not have power and moves at a slow pace compared to the rpms. Dealer says the pop noise is a gap in the brake pads and the jump effect is possibly due to the ac disengaging but the ac was not disengaging at the time.

There is "popping/crackling" noise coming from the front suspension, which is occurring in many other Civics. Seems like a faulty "bump stop" which american Honda should be responsible for because its happening in many cars. Secondly, the cheap paint which is used on their vehicles, they recently had a TSB on certain colors, its not only 3 colors which have this issue, I have a galaxy grey metallic which has paint issues on the roof like the other colors. American Honda needs to get their act straight or this is the last vehicle I own and won't recommend to any of my friends or family.
Rear tires wear prematurely and in a very odd fashion (uneven, hi-lo bands across the tread) causing a significant thumping sound and vibration. The first time I was told the rear shocks were the cause (@55-60k miles). The shocks and tires were replace and the same exact problem has occurred again! 90%+ of my driving is done on the highway and not poorly maintained back roads. It is very clear that there is an issue with the rear suspension on these vehicles that Honda needs to be forced to acknowledge and address.
Honda: when make tight turn, left or right would hear or feel a popping or clunking noise, after driving over bumps, coming from the front suspension.
Purchased a 2008 Honda Civic from local dealer new. This vehicle had alot of road noise for the get go. . But saw online that road noise was one of the problems with Honda's. Had my car regularly serviced at the same dealership over the last year. Last month Dec 2009 road noise became excessive and took car into dealership. They looked the car over and said tires had excessive wear because I had not rotated them every 5000 miles. Car is a year old has 20000 miles and has had road noise all along. Dealer refused to replace tires and denied problem. Car now has nearly 30,000 miles and is undrivable at this point. Haven't replaced tires as it is not affordable. But car is unsafe to drive. Dealer said suspension problems noted in 2006-07 models has been fixed, but problem seems rampant in the 2008 if you look on the internet as well as safety reports yet nothing has been recalled, and Honda is not standing by their product. Now I am still paying for a car that sits in the driveway and is unsafe to drive. . . Cant sell an unsafe vehicle. . Please investigate this problem.
I purchased a 2007 Honda Civic from autofair Honda of manchester nh and have had all oil changes and tire rotation services done with their service department. I have over 39,000 miles on the car. The autofair service department never once informed me about a Honda bulletin regarding the Civic's rear suspension causing rear tires to go bald, which mine did. During my last tire rotation on April 14, they did not notify me that my tread was going bare. On July 4, I discovered that my back tires were bare after realizing that they were making considerable noise while riding on the highway. I purchased new tires the following Monday from a local tire store. During my online search for new tires I found out that other Civic car owners had similar problems due to a rear suspension fault with Honda Civics. I then made an appointment with autofair to have them check this issue on July 13. The service department then informed me that their was an issue and needed to be repaired. Because my warranty has expired, I had to pay autofair to fix this issue. They put in the following part: 1 04523-sna-a01 set, upper arm rr. I'm upset that they did not inform me about this issue sooner. We've had a very wet June and my tires were not safe for driving in such conditions. Other people at the autofair service department waiting room have said they've had the same problem.
I have a 2008 Honda Civic 4 door. Has the exact same problems as the 2006 and 2008 Civics. Less than 20,000 miles on tires and car. Rear tires are demolished! tires have excessive wear and road noise. Dealer says that I should rotate the tires more often. This is not wear from failure to rotate this is due to the suspension. This is an outrage that the same problems that happened over a year ago and the have failed to fix them.
I got the car from my grandfather and it had about 20000 miles on it, after about putting 6000 miles on it myself I had to replace the tires and I always noticed the car was lous while driving and just figured it was normal and I guess I got used to it although anyone who rode in it would meantion the load noise(like having mud tires on it). Well after about 5 sets of tires(the car now has 120,000 miles) I just now (2013) started looking into why the car has a loud noise and came accross the service bulletin issue involving the rear suspension problems. I called coorporate Honda and they admited they had defective parts on the Civics and said I waited too late to complain!??? I even told her I didnt care about the $ I was out on all the tire sets I just wanted the issue fixed by them. She actually told me it was my responsibility to go to a Honda dealership and read the service bulletins and it was my fault that I am having this problem. This has to be legally taken care of!.
The contact owns a 2008 Honda Civic. While driving approximately 70 mph, the contact heard a loud whining noise coming from the tire area. The noise became audible while driving at any speed. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection and they recommended that the tires be rotated. The tires were rotated, but the noise continued. On a separate occasion, four tires were replaced, but the failure still continued. The tires required constant rotation. The contact stated that the failure was not associated with defective tires, but possibly a malfunction with the vehicle's suspension system. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 12,000 and current mileage was 34,000.
I bought my Honda Civic exl in March of 2008. After 9 months (approx 18 k miles) of use I am finding I have to replace my tires due to unusual wear. I took the car to a tire dealership who told me that there was no warranty except defects for oem tires on this car and directed me back to the dealership where I purchased the car. I had the tire place rotate and rebalance the tires the problem worsened to the point where the vehicle severely vibrated (low and high speeds)and made noise. I took the car to the Honda dealership where purchased and who said the tires in question were worn and had flat places probably due to skidding (this car has never been skidded) and that if I had issues with the tires I should go to bridgestone (the oem for el400). I went to firestone (bridgestone dealer) and was told it was the car causing the problems. I went back to the dealer and after much discussion and getting nowhere convinced them to check alignment and suspension. They did and found the rear tire alignment off. They aligned the rear tires (the front tire alignment had no issues) and sent me on my way with no obligation to replace the worn/defective tires. I replaced the tires at my own expense to avoid potential hazard of keeping the car on the road and fearful for safety of myself, my family, and others. New car new tires in 9 months this aint right. I was shocked at the fact that the oem tires had no mileage warranty and were only warranted by the tire manufacturer for defects. I was also concerned why the Honda dealership would not provide such information to the consumer at the time of sale. I have grave concern that some folks who cannot afford new tires after 9 months or sooner will continue to use and drive their car in this unsafe condition. After research I found out that a similar problem existed on 06 and 07 Hondas Honda put out a service bulletin so stating with a repair offer. Also found out others with 2008 Civics are having same problem as I have.
The 2006 Honda Civic has a rear suspension defect that causes extreme and dangerous rear tire wear. My new Civic was showing steel belts on the rear tires at 19,000 miles - detectable only by the extreme noise and kneeling to see the tire surface and the protruding steel belts. Honda, and its dealers, had consistently maintained that there was no issue with the 2006 Civic rear suspension, even though I'd spent almost 100 hours of my time, including multiple trips to the dealer. They blamed everyone involved except themselves - my aggressive driving, the oem bridgestone tires, lack of rotation, the phase of the moon, you. Only when threatened with my lawsuit did they admit that there was a problem, and tell me that I could have my rear end modified by my dealer at Honda's expense to solve my problem. Having said this - they have announced no general recall or notification actions, nor has the NHTSA - to whom I'd complained a year ago. Only if you have the tenacity and determination to take on Honda and threaten to sue them do they acknowledge the problem and offer a fix. The complicity of Honda and the NHTSA on this matter is immoral, if not criminal.
I have owned a 2001 Honda Civic lx since late December 2006 I have had the car a little over a year, when I bought the car it had 60,000 miles and it currently has 86,000 miles on it. Since the car was purchased I have had nothing but suspension problems. It seems like each time I drive it something is making a noise in the front end. I understand that this problem may be or may not be Honda's fault. I did purchase the car used and the suspension was not serviced at a certified Honda dealer; but I have read online that there is a lot of other people that experience these same issues with their 2001-2002 Civics. I think Honda should be forced to recall these vehicles its a matter of their consumers safety when the suspension is jeopardized. My warranty has covered most items but its a constant hassle to constantly keep bringing the car into the shop. I bought the Civic cause everyone said how wonderful of a car it was and this one has been nothing but a nightmare both with the suspension failures and other things that constantly go wrong with it. I think I might be trading the vehicle in but I wanted to voice my opinion.

The rear tires on my 2006 Honda Civic ex are rapidly cup, worn and uneven, and making a loud humming noise. The rear suspension cannot be aligned by the dealer because of a manufacture rear suspension design defect. I notice the noise around 3,000 miles.
Transmission for 2007 Honda Civic si seem to not want to engage 3rd gear especially when cold. Multiple occasions. Seem to have something blocking the shifter and it will grind the gear or pop out. Popping noise from front driver side suspension also have been experience on the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2002 Honda Civic. The contact stated that when large amounts of morning dew were on the windshield and rear window, it was hard to remove. The failure only occurred on cold mornings. The contact used the windshield wipers, but the dew remained. The defroster would take a long time to activate and the interior glass would clear up, but the outside glass would remain fogged. The contact called Honda care and took the vehicle to the dealer, but neither could correct the failure. The current and failure mileages were 42,000. Updated 01-14-08. The brakes made a noise when the consumer applied the brakes, the suspension felt rough. The dealer was unable to duplicate the consumer concerns. Updated 12/12/07.

Slow throttle response since purchase, door glass rattle since purchase, the third gear would give resistance, which is a known problem with the six speed transmission. I patched the problem by changing the transmission fluid and installing a shorter shifter yet this is not a permanent solution. Honda has refused to repair the actual problem with the third gear synchro and at one point stated that it was probably caused by my driving, the problem with the vehicle going into third gear is a known problem and there is a technical service bulletin that Honda corporate has released for the exact problem. The headliner rattles, door gasket seal has been coming off since purchase, suspension popping noise in the front passenger side strut since purchase and the sound has become more frequent, the driver side visor was defective and was replaced, the driver door hits the fender when opening just started happening since Honda worked on my vehicle. I have been taking my vehicle to two different dealerships (recommended by Honda corporate) and nothing has been properly repaired. I feel as though I have been given the run around for the past year. Honda has made several attempts to repair the problems and has not been able to, they have only damaged my vehicle during their attempts to repair it. They have damaged the front bumper three times, the side of the vehicle once, the door and fender once. They of course denied any involvement in the damage, then repair it under warranty.
I took delivery of a 2006 Honda Civic si on 1 Jan, 2006. I purchased the car with the optional 18" hfp alloys. At around 10k mi, I took the car in for its scheduled maintenance. My servicing dealer at that time rotated the tires along with the regular scheduled maint. When I picked up the car I noticed a very loud humming noise coming from the front of the car. I immediately took the car back to the dealer to have them check what the problem might be. The Honda tech told me that the tires( originally on the front, now on the rear) were cupped and also said that I should take the car back to the purchasing dealer for what he said was "misaligned rear suspension". Before leaving the dealer, I had the Honda tech put the tires back the way they were to get rid of the humming sound. I then took the car back to the purchasing dealer and they said that there was not much they could do and put 2 new rear tires on the car and sent me on my way. Now I had a car with 10k miles on the front and 0 miles on the rear. Fast forward a couple thousand miles and there I was needing new tires for the front because I was never able to rotate them as advised. At now 27k the car is going on its 3rd set of tires. I still cannot rotate the tires and the rear is still toed in and Honda has no "fix-action" for this. Also the car cannot be aligned, hasn't since the day I drove it off the showroom floor. I love Honda's but I do feel this car may be a lemon and is by far a safety hazard on wheels. I have since parked it in the garage until myself and american Honda come to terms.
Noise in front suspension while turning at low speeds. Popping noise in front end while maneuvering at parking lot speeds.

Erratic transmission shifting. Possible lock-up concern. Also, while driving I heard a pop while shifting(automatic transmission). Left front squeaking, clunking sound. Suspension?strut?bushing? was taken to Honda dealer in maryland and left for a couple of days on two ocassions and sound was duplicated with a technician on board, but when I went to pick up the vehicle I was told that since it could not be duplicated again in the shop, nothing was done.

: the contact stated the vehicle has been taken to the dealership 6 times to determine what is causing a loud clicking noise at 5mph in the front suspension. The dealership is unable to duplicate the problem. The manufacturer has been alerted. However, no repairs have been made.
Loud clunking noise coming from front suspension. The consumer has had ongoing problems with the loud noise coming from the suspension. The dealer was notified and to date problem has not been resolved. Please review for further investigations.
Main problem is with the engine light coming on periodically and suspension noise in front and back. I have repeatedly taken the care into Honda and they go through a multiple step process of denial and attempts to run out my warranty.
Rear suspension makes clunking noise in turns; squeaking noise emmits from right rear trunk area over bumps.
