Been having trouble with the climate control system and the radio screen will black out unexpectedly. This has been going on for years. Last night, 3/24/2026, I came home and as I put the vehicle in park, all of a sudden the dashboard lights up with all sorts of faults. When I went to go to work on 3/25/2026, I still had all of the faults lit up on the dashboard, and when I went to put the vehicle in reverse it wouldn't go anywhere because one of the faults was a brake system fault. I was told that this could happen going down the highway where the brake system and the other faults could come back on and cause a crash.
I am submitting this complaint regarding a serious and ongoing safety issue with my 2017 Honda cr?v equipped with the 1. 5l turbocharged engine. While driving, the vehicle experienced sudden and unexpected power loss, creating a dangerous situation, particularly while in traffic. During this incident, the vehicle also began emitting visible smoke, indicating a serious mechanical or engine-related failure. At the same time, the dashboard and instrument panel malfunctioned or failed, limiting my ability to receive warnings or diagnose the issue while operating the vehicle. Over the past 23 months, I have brought this vehicle to three different Honda dealerships due to warning lights, abnormal behavior, and ongoing concerns related to performance and reliability. Despite multiple service visits, the dealerships were unable to properly identify or resolve the underlying issue. Temporary explanations or repairs were provided, but the problem persisted. It was only during the most recent dealership visit in the last week that the issue was finally properly identified, after months of unresolved complaints and warning indicators. By that time, the vehicle had already experienced a serious failure involving power loss, smoke, and dashboard malfunction. The prolonged inability to correctly diagnose and repair this vehicle, combined with the sudden power loss and system failures, created a significant safety hazard. This failure could have resulted in a crash and placed vehicle occupants and others at risk. I believe this issue may be related to a broader defect affecting Honda cr?v vehicles equipped with the 1. 5l turbo engine. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this matter due to the severe safety implications and the pattern of unresolved warnings over an extended period.
My 2017 Honda crv VIN [xxx] ac compressor has completely seized/locked up. This has caused: (1) loss of engine power while driving with ac on, (2) burning smell from engine compartment, (3) loud grinding noise. A seized ac compressor risks snapping the serpentine belt while driving, which causes sudden loss of power steering — a direct safety hazard at highway speeds. This is a known Honda defect covered under TSB 23-040, yet the dealer denied warranty coverage claiming the compressor failure is unrelated to the shaft seal defect. The root cause was never addressed despite my car being serviced in may 19 2023 and they charged for discharge hose and freeon filling for 900$. The same day Honda extended warranty of parts via TSB 23-040. I feel Honda dealership never found the root cause and beating around the bush. We lose money and health and safety is also getting intona concern. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I was pumping gas and during gas started pouring out by the rear tire flap. It was not a whole tank but a large amount. And the next day also noticed a puddle where gas tank lies. This has happened in the past but sporadically and not all of the gas comes out. Also, there is a safety recall on rear fuel feed pipe leaks and fuel pump motor but supposedly not on this particular vehicle year/VIN.
I was driving across a major intersection when the car slammed on the brakes for no reason. There were no shadows. I was not under a bridge. It is an overcast day. No direct sun. My safety was at risk because I could have been hit by oncoming traffic when I was trying to go forward.
Car has been having all of the dashboard lights come on. I search up this and there are so many same gen Honda crv 2017-19 having the same issue happen repeatedly. I have came across atleast 50+ people online that keep having this issue come back. Also at times it will says engine is too hot and to park safely. This is 3rd time where my car is in idle and the car shuts off and says engine is too hot to which I then turn it off. When I proceed to try to start car after waiting it does not stay on. I went to 2 different Hondas and they stated battery, alternator, starter are good. This car is no good if everyone is having the same issues.
All warnings on dash appeared on vehicle. Took to the dealership and all 4 cylinder fuel injectors need replacing. Car only has 39,900 miles on it.
Center display for backup camera locks up and no longer shows live view causing a near miss on people walking behind vehicle. Possibly related: center display also sometimes goes blank or audio fails. Need video to show sequence of events, but that can not be uploaded. Also, when center display sometimes stays blank (although, backup camera might still work, without guide lines), fuse #19 under the hood can be removed w/ vehicle off, then Cr-v started, then off, and fuse re-placed, and then center display will work again for some time.
I have had my crv suddenly brake on me on multiple occasions when absolutely no one is around to cause it. It’s created many of close calls and given me mild whip lash in the past. But yesterday it happened in a way much worse than ever bc I was on the interstate and it abruptly stopped (again no one in front of me or to the side) which jolted me and gave me some brutal whiplash and then it was locked up & wouldn’t go faster than 20mph!! I was in the left lane & I almost got hit by multiple people behind me & almost died! I had to drive like this for 3-5 minute (hazards on of course) until I could ‘safely’ pull over. Once I turned it off and turned it back on, it went back to accelerating normally. I have taken my car to the Honda dealership for every oil change I’ve gotten & this issue has never come up on their full vehicle inspection. I cannot emphasize enough how close I came to dying bc of this. I really hope a resolution or recall happens sooner than later bc I’m now learning there’s 1000’s of people online saying they’ve had similar experiences. It should not take years to address this when there are so many lives at stake. Please help. Sincerely, terrified to drive my car now (& that’s not good considering I drive for work).
Impact on the driver side from another vehicle caused it to be totaled but not a single airbag deployed.
Unexpected sudden acceleration. 2017 Honda Cr-v. Twice while highway driving with autopilot on, system failed to slow it when approaching other vehicles and it sped up instead. When I pumped the brakes, it went away. I took it off autopilot henceforth. Several days later, coming out of a market parking lot and approaching a stop sign, the accelerator went down and sped me forward with brakes doing barely anything. I shot into a cvs parking lot, managed to stop it and turn the engine off. It's sitting in a garage now and no one knows what to do and I am terrified to drive it. Could have killed me or others around me. It was not the floor mat nor anything I did.
On 9/2/25 all the engine lights came on on the dash. I replaced the battery and it was fine the rest of the day. Then 9/3/25 once again all the lights are on and none of the adas work.
The headlights were on after I replaced the battery. Did a little bit of research and found that the body control module or (bcm) would be going out. Got a new one sent and tried replacing it and the part didn't end up working. Took it to a non Honda dealer. Got it taken care of, but the new bcm wouldn't work. All warning lights came on and now I have to deal with the bcm going out again and not able to return the part back to Honda.
Battery control module ( bcm ). Fire hazard. Confirmed dealer mcconnell Honda/Acura montgomery. Component has been inspected by dealer. Warning lamps and other symptoms such as battery failure. Recalls are out for 2017 Honda Cr-v.
Back in July, my car started having the lights come on; it lit up the whole dashboard. The brake system, tire pressure, brake hold system, hill start, adaptive cruise control, etc. It affected the power of the vehicle. There was no acceleration at all. It was like it went in limp mode. This has happened numerous times. The other problem is starting it was making a hesitation to start. It would also start rough as in almost like a shake. We noticed that it was using antifreeze more often than it should and would get hot sitting still. That's when we took car to be inspected by a certified mechanic and that's when we found out that we needed a new engine due to antifreeze seeping into the engine.
The electrical system periodically goes haywire - all warning lights come on and flash. It some cases, my car lost power and it was unsafe to drive. I was worried it would overheat. I have rebooted and sometimes it resets and sometimes it doesn't. It is extremely rough starting now. The electrical problem can start when I start the car and sometimes it happens while driving. With all warnings going, it concerns me that I would not know which alert might be real. The vehicle seems to short itself out. I have changed the battery more times than would be normal. It is draining the battery while sitting (no lights or other issues that would cause it). The electrical system flashing has been happening from the beginning but it is getting more frequent and doesn't reset. I have also taken it to a mechanic a d paid for various repairs and nothing helps.
Our 2017 Honda crv ex body control module has to be replaced due to the alarm system coming on and the car trying to start itself along with a parasitic drain. I have driven Honda's my entire life because they are suppose to be reliable and I guess this is no longer the case. Very disappointed with this vehicle.
Coolant and oil draining like crazy. Absurd about if smoke (white/blue) coming out of exhaust. At times the screen for the radio with just decide to not work.
All dash lights come on. Has cylinder misfire. Did some research it seems like is related to the fuel injectors. Honda dealer wants to charge me 4300 for changing fuel injectors.
Center display unit goes blank or screen changes from day to night. Beeps constantly as screen changes and will not recognize touch inputs or shut off.
All the safety feature icons come on each time the vehicle is started and stay illuminated on the dashboard. It is unclear if these safety features would work in the event they are needed. Feel this is a safety concern that Honda is not addressing.
Electronic power steering fault due to internal short inside electronic steering rack and pinion assembly.
All dash lights came on and it showed all safety systems had faults. Took it to the dealership and was told I needed injectors. I have looked into this issue and many Cr-v models have had warranty extensions for this exact issue. Lucky me mine is not one of the one's in the VIN group for this extension. So I am facing a $2,000 bill. The car is still driveable but its hard to feel safe with random dash lights coming on.
The car first does not respond to the key fob and when you look inside the dash is on despite not using push-to-start and you have to use the manual key to open the door. Then the car alarm will go off and continue not to repond to the keyfob until you, once again, use the manual key to unlock and silence th e car. The only solution I have gotten is to take the battery out of my key fob and disable push-to-start function. They already replaced my key fob and car battery and the problem has persisted. No recall information as of yet and I'm taking it to the dealership for further scrutiny. . .
The dash warning lights all come on when the vehicle is started. Numerous warning messages scroll across the dash indicating just about every system on the vehicle is malfunctioning. The collision warning system stops working, the lane change warning stops working, cruise control stops working. I have no idea what else could have stopped working that could mean the difference between life and death. My vehicle has had this problem for almost two years now. This problem stops after disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes then it comes back unpredictably. Honda dealerships just guess what the problem is because there are no definitive error codes. They randomly want to change parts like fuel injectors, onboard computer, brakes, battery, and others, and charge thousands of dollars and will not refund the money when the problem reappears. This problem is putting drivers at serious risk and Honda has done absolutely nothing to find and repair the problem. There are hundreds of reports of this problem online and Honda has not responded. Honda dealerships are making tons of money from this issue and doing nothing to solve the problem.
All the dashboard warning lights come on. They will turn off at short intervals, but then come back on. I took the car to the dealer in 2024 and they diagnosed it as rear tire sensor problem. Paid over $800 to have this replaced and all the dashboard warning lights came back on the next day. Went back to the dealer and they then diagnosed it as bad fuel injector and quoted repair at over $1,200. We did not have the injector replaced as they could not guarantee fixing the fuel injector would turn the lights off as this seems to be a common reported problem in 2017 Honda crvs. Over the past year the dashboard warning lights would come on and off at random intervals. Over the past two months, along with all warning lights remaining on, the car has now started to stall within the first 5 minutes of driving it. Due to the stalling, we took the car to an independent mechanic who followed the Honda service bulletin and did a full tune up on the car but all dashboard warning lights remain on and the car continues to stall at times.
I have purchased a car from a private seller with an altered odometer (mileage discrepancy and now it has all type of lights showing on the dash and car stops running all of a sudden I have taken to Honda dealer for diagnosis and they told us we been fraud on miles and they messed with it electronically.
We have had this problem more than once but this morning it nearly caused an accident. My husband was driving to work and all of a sudden the car's automatic breaking system caused the car to stop dead, causing the car behind him to have to swerve up on the sidewalk to avoid hitting him. He was not going over a metal plate, there wadss no car stopped in front of him. This has happened at least ten times in the time we have owned the car and we have been incredibly lucky that it has not caused an accident, but it's still clearly a problem. We have complained about this to the dealership when we bring it in but they just shrug since they can't reproduce it and it seems to happen randomly. Just all of a sudden driving along brake will flash on the dashboard and the car will stop abruptly.
All dashboard lights ( warnings) will light up and has stayed on for 4 days. Will randomly clear on its own. Car will also jerk while accelerating speed from 30 to 40 miles and above. Car has been inspected by a mechanic shop and has checked fuses and has had a tune up. This has happened over several months this year starting back in March. Issue still continues. Mechanical shop has reported 3 more cars like mine Honda crv has come in with the same issue and issue remains unknown and unresolved at this time.
Fuel injectors are bad. $2300 at the dealership to fix it. Mine went out in my driveway so I guess I’m lucky. There are a ton of these on the road and many are having this exact problem.
I have had my car taken to Honda dealerships with an issue of all my warning lights would come on. No one has been able to fix the issue. The spark plugs, battery, air filters, have been replaced and diagnostic tests were done. The warning lights would stop for a couple of months and then start again. The last time all the warning lights came on my car began to stall and not got over 8 - 10 mph when I would start to drive. I would pull over, turn off my car, restart, then it would be ok to drive. The part that scared me was when I was on a busy highway, traveling close to 65 - 70 mph and my car stalled/lost power. Thankfully, I was able to pull to the side of the highway without getting myself or anyone hurt. I have since stopped driving on the highway. The last mechanic (Honda certified) has told me my head gasket needs replaced. Not something I would expect but it does explain a lot of the issues I have been having. My car is parked until I am able to get it repaired.
Braking system. Vehicle brakes did not brake and vehicle skidded over gravel and a driveway culvert. Vehicle was considered total loss because the airbag went off. My safety and others' was put at risk. Other questions, answer is unknown.
Honda crv has a software glitch where all warning lights start flashing. This has happened 3 times in past one year . Dealer wanted $150 to $200 for diagnostics . When I checked internet there are multiple users who are having this issue . When I contacted Honda they said they can do nothing as it’s not an active recall issue . The entire system needs to be updated by Honda free of charge for existing customers as this is a major safety issue.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic; however, while at the shop, the vehicle failed to start. The mechanic determined that the battery had failed, and the battery was replaced. The contact stated that within a week, the warning lights returned. The vehicle was returned to the mechanic to be diagnosed and it was determined that the spark plugs were all black. The mechanic then performed a tune-up on the vehicle; however, within a week, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed the vehicle with a misfire. The contact was informed that there were three fuel injectors that needed to be replaced. The dealer confirmed that the VIN was not under recall or covered under warranty. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000.
I was driving on a major highway at 60mph when all of a sudden the car started to automatically brake intermittently with warnings flashing. I slowed down to below 30mph in the right lane and put my flashers on traveling to the next off ramp, while the car continued to brake intermittently and not respond appropriately to applying the gas. Several warnings flashed, including: emergency braking system problems; crash mitigation problem; transmission system problem; adaptive cruise control problem. I was lucky to get to a safe spot without being rear-ended. I am having the car towed to a dealer tomorrow.
