315 problems related to electrical system have been reported for the 2017 Honda CR-V. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2017 Honda CR-V based on all problems reported for the 2017 CR-V.
While driving warning lights on dashboard display the following issues: 1. Collision mitigation system problem 2. Road departure mitigation problem 3. Tire pressure monitor problem 4. Brake system problem 5. Brake system hold problem 6. Power steering system problem 7. Vehicle stability assistant problem 8. Hill start assist problem and 9. Adaptive cruise control problem. This is the second time this has happened this year 2024. There are othe crv owners who have had this issue. Honda needs to recall these vehicles and fix this safety issue. My battery was changed in 2023 and my system was checked but these lights still come on.
Unknown: all light on dash come on. Maybe an electrical or engine problem. All safety features on car disable. Honda dealer said it’s an emission problem. Battery has been changed and problem still continues. Started at about 70,000 miles. Comes on and goes away on its own. Happened about 7 times now.
The car had just 44,242 miles when this problem started on 8/21/2024. Two months later, the problem persists. The safety systems of the car fail upon startup and remain this way for multiple cycles of driving the car. The reality is that I cannot check enough boxes above because the form doesn't allow me. The following warnings all come up at the same time: - emission system problem - brake system problem - brake hold system problem - power steering system (eps) problem - vehicle stability assist (vsa) problem - hill start assist problem - adaptive cruise control problem - collision mitigation system problem - road departure mitigation system problem - electronic parking brake problem - tire pressure monitor problem eventually, after some amount of time or some number of restarts, the warnings clear and the safety systems work again. Then, the problem reappears.
All vehicle alerts came on, vehicle randomly started braking hard while driving. We brought it to the dealership, told it needs all new fuel injectors and a vsa module. Vsa module is on backorder, no timeline for a new one. Told vehicle is unsafe to drive without vsa module.
History: vehicle brakes failed suddenly while in motion. Brake system problem was flashing on the dashboard followed by various electronic system failure messages. The problem first occurred on Nov 3, 2023 and was reported to NHTSA with issue # 11553355. The issue was also reported to american Honda (case # xxx). Vehicle logged an error code. Honda dealership could not diagnose the cause of the issue and hence they could not provide any fix. I was advised to bring the vehicle back if the problem occurs again since the problem appears intermittent. Recent update: the problem occurred again twice in July 2024 under the same circumstances as mentioned above from Nov 2024. The vehicle is now with dealership for inspection. No root cause has been identified yet at the time of reporting the issue but it is being suspected that a fault might be with electric brake booster component. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? brakes. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? very risky as I lost an ability by approx. 90% to stop the vehicle. Fortunately, no vehicle was in front of me, I was not approaching pedestrian crossing, or traffic signal. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? confirmed by a dealer. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? yes - american Honda and hoffman Honda dealership in canton, CT. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? yes information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The vehicle experienced multiple system failures, indicated by error messages in 11 different systems, including the check engine light. The affected systems were tire pressure monitoring, brake system, electronic power steering, vehicle stability assist, adaptive cruise control, road departure mitigation, electric parking brake, emissions system, brake hold system, hill start assist, and collision mitigation system. The vehicle was checked with a code scanner. The codes retrieved were “dtc 0300 random misfire, dtc p0301 no1 cylinder misfire, p0172 fuel system (b1) too rich and dtc p0304 no4 cylinder misfire” no other system faults were detected despite the earlier errors. The direct injection fuel injectors and engine design seem to be the probable cause. There has been no inspection by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives at this time. The vehicle and components are available for inspection upon request. There were no pre-warning lamps, messages, or symptoms before the failure, suggesting the underlying problem may have been developing over a long period without detection. When these errors were displayed, critical safety systems in the vehicle were rendered inoperable, posing a significant risk to my safety and others on the road. An emissions system issue should not have caused multiple safety systems to be disabled, as this could potentially lead to a crash or other hazardous situations. This issue is well-documented online as a common problem with the gen5 Honda Cr-v, with many owners reporting similar experiences. Despite widespread complaints, Honda has not taken corrective action, such as issuing a software update to prevent safety system failures or acknowledging a potential manufacturing defect in the fuel system and fuel injectors. This problem is leading to premature and frequent fuel injector replacements. This can also increase potential safety hazards along with risks for injury or death.
Every signal sensor in my car went off after 100k miles. Brake hold system, power steering, hill start assist, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, road departure, electric parking brake, tpm, emission system problem, all wheel drive system. Car stopped working and came to a complete stop on highway with my child in it which was not only terrifying but put us obviously in a life threatening situation. Brought it to Honda dealership-they cleared codes and said they could figure out what was wrong because their software was down. Made an appointment with Honda in a different city to check my rear brake actuator sensor as I had had my brakes replaced prior to these codes showing up. Had to have the car towed to the dealership as it would not drive at this point. The dealership put a vt sylenoid in and said it was good to go. I asked about the brakes, they said they showed no issue. 30 days later while on the highway again with my child, all the same sensors came on and the car notified me to pull over to safety. I brought my car back to the dealership, they said they changed the left wheel sensor and all codes were cleared and the car was ready to be picked up. I go to the dealership and turn on my car, two seconds not even off the lot and all the same sensors are back on. Now Honda is telling me that I need a brand new computer installed for $1400. 00 to fix the issue, after I already spent $1500 at this point. Obviously I have called american Honda, but this has been an absolute nightmare.
All of the alerts for the adas system would all come on alerting everything had failed. This had three times now over a course of a year. Once driving two while starting or parked. After two reboots of the system and a little drive the alerts go away. Also the stereo display had gone black because it lost connection. A reboot fixes that too. That’s been happening longer. Asked the dealer to check for firmware updates. They said there are five for her car after they checked it. We had it on for an oil change. They told us first it would cost 100, then they changed to almost 500 because it was 5 updates. This could be a real safety concern since you will never know if something has failed or not. If it’s their software engineers making the mistakes with coding, why do we have to pay for them updating it so it’s correct. I have no problem doing this myself, most car companies allow this, Honda will not with our 2017 even though there is a setting to do it. I just have no way of getting the files. Please help.
Car is parked in front of the house no one has touch the vehicle. The car suddenly started the alarm, had to turn it off. Later on during the day I went to turn the vehicle on and it wont turn off after. I had to search for the fuel pump fuse and remove that to turn off the car.
All warning lights are active on the dash touch screen and the ip. The warning is audible and visual and cycling rapidly and very annoying. Dangerous when driving as a distraction making driving after dark very dangerous. This is the second time in a year this same problem has happened. We are the original owners of the car bought from art mohen Honda in jackson michigan in 2017. The first incident was intermittent and the touch screen would clear. Unrelated to the computer problem we we in a collision and during the repair process the car was taken to art mohen Honda and faults were cleared on the computer. This lasted 7 months and now the computer is in complete fault as discribed above.
Two times today the infotainment screen goes black and starts beeping like crazy. You have to pull off the road, turn the car off and then reset this. The beeping noise is so annoying you have no choice but to pull over. Dealer said no fix. Why can’t Honda fix their problems. Many other Hondas are having the same problem. I will submit this form every time this happens, which seems to be daily now.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that the abs was making an abnormal dinging sound, and there were several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle went into limp mode, lost motive power, and shut off unintendedly. The failure had gotten worse over time. The contact stated that the failure was related to technical service bulletin: 22-002. The contact called a master mechanic and was informed that the vehicle had gone into limp mode to protect the engine. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel injectors were leaking into the spark plugs. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000. The VIN was not available.
Again this happened, driving at 38 mph the braking system activated without warning and slammed us into the seat belts. This is happening way to often and now my wife refuses to drive the car.
Since I have owned this car bought in 2017 the info screen randomly turns black and beeps. You cannot tell at that is going on with the car. You can’t adjust the heat, defroster or the radio. This has happened hundreds of times. Honda says they have no fix. I read you have to pull over turn the car off, than start it up and hold the volume button down on the radio until it asks you to reboot the system. Ridiculous, I’ve never had a car with so many problems.
Recurring parasitic battery draw down to below normal level to start vehicle. Have replaced battery 3 times in less than a year. After many trips to the dealer about the same issue. Honda dealership charged me $500. 00 for a diagnostic. Rv has an electrical problem on the engine along with dash board. They are charging more than $6,000. 00 for repairs with uncertainty that issue will be solve. My crv has 37,000 miles which is still new. Noticed same problem reported in internet forums. Google “2017 crv battery problem” for more examples reported by other crv vehicle owners. I believe that this problem is an extensive one that affects many owners and should be determined to be a safety recall issue. Now I have no confidence in the safety of the vehicle and won’t be driving it at night so as to avoid the possibility of being left stranded away from home.
Hi. During the drive. My car's all warning light that include break light and engine light and tire pressure light. And I check everything is find. Then I go to the dealer to fix it. The dealer said everything is fine. The can't do anything. They just clear the code. But the next week, it happened again. I also do research this issue at internet. This issue is not unique in u. S. Please help us to let Honda to be concerned this issue. Thank you.
Stranded over the years of the cars life with multiple dead batteries. Most recent after stranded with car that wouldn’t start had it replaced and car electrical system randomly went off triggering alarm and draining battery. The amps were way over Honda standard being drawn from the battery. After couple trips to dealer it was the bcm that needed replacing with only 56,000 miles on the car.
All of my warning lights are on. The above checklist only lets me pick 3 items total but every warning light is on. Brake hold system, power steering, hill start assist, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, road departure, electric parking brake, tpm, emission system problem, all wheel drive system. My car has went from driving 70mph on the highway to suddenly going to 10-20 mph! super dangerous and this has happened 2 times. First time in March 24’ and again may 24’. The reset resolved it briefly but it returned again and again. Now all lights are on and it scares me to drive on the interstate because I don’t know when it will happen again. My safety features do not work on my car when the lights are on. I have had the codes checked and reset 2 times. Codes p0172 & p0303 were a couple codes it shows.
Battery kept draining especially if car wasn't used for a couple days. Got locked out of car from battwry drain while shopping. Took to dealer because brain new battery dead within days. So far found out I have a bad body control module.
The car has a warranty that was extended because of camshaft issues. The warranty expired 2023 I bought the car in 2023. The issue started happening in 2024. The car will just stop and not go no matter how much you press the gas. So driving anywhere at any speed the car will just all of a sudden stop. It’s extremely dangerous and obviously it’s a problem that Honda has already recognized.
While driving the car it began to spit and sputter and lost power to the point I had to pull out of traffic to the shoulder, stop, and turn hazard lights on. While there I turned the car off and restarted it. I began to enter back into traffic, got to about 10-15 mph and all of a sudden the car ran choppy and every light came on the dash displaying a problem with every function of the car. My husband works about a mile from where I was so I drove from where it happened to his workplace. From there the phone calls began to obtain a tow to the dealership. Diagnostic results said head gasket was leaking and coolant was fouling the spark plugs. Dealer quoted $5700 for repairs. (25 hours of labor). Around 86,000 miles (10 weeks ago) the same dealership replaced fuel injectors and spark plugs for $1700. Now the 2017 car is just under 90,000 miles.
3 main issues: (July 2023) suddenly when trying to accelerate on the interstate, I could not. I pulled over, turned the car off, and back on, and did not have the problem again for several months. (December 2023) car started to sputter upon turning on. After a minute it ran fine. Continuous problem. (January 2024) every single service light came on. Car would still operate but without cruise control, lane detecting, electric brake and every other feature. Lights remain on and flashing while driving. Still sputtered upon turning on but would stop after a minute. Several times when putting in drive, would not accelerate past 15mph approx). After restarting, the engine would seem to operate fine while all service lights remained on with functions of each not working. One day the car operated fine and did so for several days. Then the problems started again. I took it in for service and the dealer said it was a fuel injector that needed replaced. Waited for a part for 3 weeks and got the needed repairs. When I picked up the car it seemed to operate fine. The next day all problems started it again. It is currently in the shop to look for the cause.
While the car was moving, the lcd screen suddenly flickered uncontrollably. Although the lcd screen returns to normal after the car is restarted, it will flicker after driving for a period of time.
While driving at highway speeds the electrically controlled parking brake engaged resulting in a hazardous situation requiring my son to pull over off the road. The entire electrical system was acting strangely with hazard lights coming on randomly, alarm system going off randomly, and keys fobs not working. Honda dealership determined the issue to be a bad body control module (bcm).
Infotainment screen malfunction and safety issue. Also hood popped open twice while driving 65 mph causing damage.
All lights in dash came on randomly one day. Would go on and off periodically eventually they stayed on. Vehicle began going into limp mode changed all spark plugs, fuel pump and injectors continued difficulty with control center every light remains on speedometer is in correct all safety features are inactive. Car is completely unsafe to drive will go into limp mode out of nowhere have tried everything to resolve issues nothing has helped. Entire system should be recalled.
Twice the dashboard lights come on randomly. Took it to the dealer at Honda of mentor who supposedly "fixed" it but the issue has come back.
The incident happened on 11/2/2023 at 8:40 am et. I was at the speed of about 25-30 miles/hour to drop my daughter at preschool. Suddenly, I received an alert on my dashboard saying "brake system problem". When I applied brakes, the vehicle wouldn't stop. I pressed brake pedal very hard and kept it that way for a while. The vehicle gradually came to a stop but it took long for a vehicle to come to a stop. It was a 'brake failure experience'. If there was a downward slope and/or if I was at a higher speed, the vehicle would have gone out-of-control. I don't recall if I felt automatic acceleration when this incident happen. After vehicle came to a stop, I immediately engaged the parking brake, stopped the ignition, called emergency road-side assistance and got the vehicle towed to a dealership. This incident definitely put me, my 3 year old daughter, and others on the road at risk. Dealership inspected the vehicle. They found an error code that confirms the occurrence of the problem but they are unable to duplicate the issue. They don't know why it happened, nor can they guarantee that this will not happen again. They said they followed manufacturers guidelines to troubleshoot the problem. Since they cannot find why it happened, they don't have anything to fix, and advised me to pay the labor charges and pick my vehicle. I reported this issue to american Honda. Case # 14229789. They were concerned that the brakes should have responded well since the model is not hybrid or fully electric. This makes me feel more nervous. American Honda said they are going to investigate this and will get in touch with the dealership where the vehicle currently is. This vehicle was inspected and serviced at the same Honda dealership about 3 weeks ago. The vehicle has been meticulously maintained. All routine maintenances have been done at Honda dealership consistently on time. The vehicle has relatively new battery from 2022. I request you to look into the matter and advise.
Right rear passenger door cannot be opened from inside or outside.
Parasitic battery drain affects my 2017 Honda Cr-v. If the vehicle is dormant for just a few days, the battery drains completely and requires a jump start. I am on my fourth battery since purchasing the vehicle new in March 2017, and have also had the starter replaced when my garage could not identify the issue. When the battery is completely dead as I described, the key fob will not open the doors, and you must enter the vehicle by using the physical key located inside the fob. All doors must be opened manually, and the trunk liftgate (where one typically keeps jumper cables or battery booster pack) does not function, rendering access to the rear seats and trunk very difficult. When a jump is successful, all of the safety systems reset and warning indicators do not disappear until the car is driven for several minutes. Honda has an electrical problem or is using batteries that are too small for their vehicles. I wouldn’t expect a car that has been sitting for months at a time to start on the first try, but a few days (even a long weekend would be an issue) is unacceptable.
My Honda when I was driving on my dash started going crazy and says power steering, brakes, tire pressure, adaptive cruise control etc. . I can use any of my safety features when driving the car is constantly telling me there's all these things wrong.
In January 2023 all the warning lights in the dash in our 2017 Honda Cr-v spontaneously came on. Were told by Honda the system would reset and it did. Then we had to change out the battery which was supposedly the fix when it happened again. Recently the alarm would sound and lights come on when sitting in the driveway and not running. This progressed that day to having to jump start the car. Took it to Honda who diagnosed a bcm failure. Had to leave it there because it would not start at all. New bcm and again a battery installed. One week later all the warning lights come on again. Back to Honda to be reprogramed but told if this happens again would need new fuel injectors??? apparently, the crv should not be driven with this problem, as it can cause automatic stops, lane changes and other safety issues. There have been multiple reports of this issue and it is not being addressed.
Issue #1: automatic braking self-engaged. Approximate date: 11/21/2022 mileage: 70k I was driving home. I was traveling southbound approximately 40 mph on a 4 lane road (2 each direction). The weather was clear (I. E. , no rain or other adverse conditions). No other cars (northbound or southbound), pedestrians, or objects were on or near the roadway and my car, without warning, applied the brakes, hard. The automatic braking system had engaged by itself, without warning. Imagine driving down the road and for no reason, without warning, the car abruptly attempts to stop itself. There's little to be done and it's quite precarious, especially if the road I was on had heavier traffic. Thankfully, no one was behind me or I would have been in an accident. It was pretty scary -- my passenger looked at me and wondered why on earth I'd applied the brakes so hard but I hadn't personally touched them--there was no reason to stop or slow down in the middle of the street that day. When the automatic braking engaged, there was no warning and the vehicle was running fine. Issue #2: faulty electrical system + sensor failure. Date: 7/17/2023 mileage: 85k all possible electrical warnings came up on my dash while idling in a grocery store parking spot at the prompting me to research complaints (I didn't know NHTSA handled complaints; hence, I'm filing two simultaneously in this report today). I observe a regular, routine maintenance schedule at the local dealership, and while I expect some maintenance, particularly as the vehicle gets older, I should not be having these types of issues. I was able to clear the dash warnings myself after manually rebooting the system 4 times, but I'm sure that only alleviates the symptoms not any root cause. Based on the plethora of articles on the internet about this, it seems that the 2017 Honda Cr-v has some faulty sensors and electrical issues which are a threat to personal and public safety and need additional investigation.
All alerts on dashboard are active - emission, brakes, hill-assist, auto high-beam, collision mitigation system, etc. Can no longer drive my car safely. Dealer confirmed. The car just had its oil changed and air filter replaced.
The infotainment systems is failing. Volume knob does not change volume correctly, carplay goes in and out, chronic infotainment beeping occurs, infotainment system changes source without input. This creates distractions while driving. It was taken to Honda however they reported no fix for this at this time but mentioned a potential recall on the way due to other drivers experiencing similar issues.
