1 Defogger problem of the 2019 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 11/30/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2019 Honda Cr-v. While driving approximately 50 mph in the rain, sleet, and snow, the contact attempted to use the defroster, however, the system failed to clear the windshield. The contact had to turn the heat up all the way inside the vehicle in order for the defroster to work properly. The contact called mawah Honda (located at 345 rt 17 n, mahwah, NJ 07430, 201-529-5700) to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated because the weather conditions had changed. The dealer stated that the defroster seemed to work correctly. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000.

4 Defogger problem of the 2006 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/14/2010

2006 Honda Cr-v, VIN: [xxx]. Compressor failed at 74k miles. Interior vents now blow only hot air and the defroster no longer defogs windshield because compressor must work for defroster to work properly. I called american Honda on 7/15/10. I was assigned a case #, and customer service escalated the issue 3 times. They refused to take responsibility for this compressor failure which is common on thousands of Honda crv's from 2002 through 2006 (please see the forums on this issue). In some cases, Honda has paid for the repair; in others, they paid for part of the cost of the repair; but in most, like for me, they refused to own up to this common defect. I wrote to tetsuo iwamura, ceo american Honda, on 7/20. My letter was returned to customer service who again told me Honda would do nothing. I wrote again to the ceo on 7/27, but received no response. I wrote again on 8/17 sending the letter via certified mail. That letter was received 8/19, but to date, there has been no response. Again, this is a common problem on Honda Cr-v's. Compressors should not fail at 74k miles. I never had this problem with any other car I have ever owned. And this is a safety issue because the compressor turns on when the defroster is on. Without a working compressor, the defroster can not defog the windshield, and you can't see where you are going. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

6 Defogger problem of the 2003 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/04/2007

The contact owns a 2003 Honda Cr-v. The vehicle is equipped with a 1982 Honda silverwing air conditioner compressor. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle made a strange sound, the air conditioner stopped blowing cool air, and the vehicle began to decelerate. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic and they stated that the air conditioning system was filled with freon, which caused the compressor to freeze and seize the engine. Honda informed the contact that she will be responsible for only the cost of the parts, not the labor. Honda also advised her not to use the air conditioner. The serial and part numbers for the compressor were unknown. The current mileage was 98,618 and failure mileage was 98,550.

7 Defogger problem of the 2004 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 10/22/2006

While driving in warm and very wet weather I heard a loud pop and the air conditioner on the 2004 Cr-v stopped blowing cold air. In order to see through the fogged windows we had to run the widow defogger on high, blowing hot air for the remaining 3 hours of our road trip. We were miserable, to say the least. Upon returning to houston I took the car to a mechanic ,who elevated it and showed me the air compressor. The housing of the compressor is shattered. It looks like a hard-boiled egg shell after being cracked. This is a faulty part, which I'm told will cost $700 for just the compressor. The mechanic told me that when he contacted a dealer, the service manager told him they had sold 5 from that dealer alone that month! in October! the car was only 2 years old.

8 Defogger problem of the 2003 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/15/2006

A/c on 2003 Honda Cr-v failed (44,000 miles on vehicle) resulting in inability to adequately defog the windshield and side windows during thunderstorm. There was no vehicular accident. Honda repaired defect under extended warranty ($1900 value). Defective part is not available. It appears from discussion threads on edmunds. Com that this is a recurring accessory failure on 2002-2004 crvs that has safety connotations. Honda America is repairing at no cost to auto owners even if out of warranty but you have to complain to their headquarters. Furthermore, it appears that the repairs are breaking down in instances before exceeding any where near reasonable replacement part service life. This suggests a design flaw. How many crvs are out there with impaired windshield defogging capabilities?.

9 Defogger problem of the 2002 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 11/09/2004

Air conditioner system failure. A safety concern in that this locks up the compressor pulley and possibly the entire engine belt. Also, defroster not working properly. Replaced by Honda.
