Exterior Rearview Mirror Problems of Honda CR-V

The component affected is the passenger side mirror. The plastic cap over the mirror spontaneously cracked. It sounded like my crv was hit by a rock. I looked over and my mirror was folded into the vehicle. The mirror works, it is not cracked and the movement via the driver side buttons works. Upon stopping and looking, the plastic was broken from the bottom around the interior of the cap. Exterior plastic piece was left. I used black duct tape to keep the remaining pieces together. No warning signs. Pieces of plastic flew off the mirror into the roadway where cars were parked and people would be standing. My crv is going in for an inspection on 4/2/2026.

The contact owns a 2023 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, there was a loud explosion on the passenger’s side of the vehicle. The contact owns a 2024 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at speeds over 60 mph, the driver's side mirror shook violently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer however, the failure was not replicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 14,000.

My wife owns a 2003 Honda crv purchased from jeff weler Honda of cincinnati. The passenger side mirror is broken. Honda informed me that the part is on backorder and as a result, they cannot supply the mirror to me. However, it appears that Honda is currently making 2004 crv's and the part number for the passenger side mirror is the same for both the 2003 and the 2004 models. Additionally, many Honda dealers have new 2003 and 2004 crv's on their lots, but they are unwilling to "borrow" a mirror from a new vehicle and supply it to consumers who have broken mirrors. Additionally, I had no choice but to drive the car from cincinnati to columbus and back yesterday in order to pick up a friend who had been injured in an accident. Driving the car on the highway without a passenger side mirror is dangerous given the design of the inside mirror and the design of the rear body pillars. From my point of view, it appears that Honda has the parts to make my wife's car safe and they are choosing to put priority on the building of new cars instead of making existing cars safe. Consumer states that the right passenger side exterior mirrror gives faulty reflection causing the image to be further back then necessary. The dealer has been notified. Nlm.
