1 Engine problem of the 2010 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 01/05/2011

I own a 2010 Honda crv, there is a noticeable hesitation in accelerations from a stop or slow speed. Most apparent when attempting to make a left turn against oncoming traffic as the hesitation makes these turns dangerous. As with complaints 10361582 and 10361843 (and likely others), I have taken the car into the Honda dealer whose assessment is that the car is performing per specification. I suspect it has something to do with Honda increasing the compression ratio for 2010, but not properly tuning the timing for all situations, but I am not a mechanic so it's just an uneducated hunch.

2 Engine problem of the 2009 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/28/2010

While stopping or stopped for traffic light(s), with foot on brake, engine revved up to 2k rpm without any action on my part. When light changed, and brake was released, acceleration and car performance became normal again. This has happened three separate times in the past six weeks. In addition, turning the a/c off or on had no effect on engine rpm. Note: during the anomaly, if transmission was moved from d to n, engine would rev up to 5k rpm, and would drop back to 2k rpm when transmission put back into d all this happened with foot still on the brake. For the record: car was taken to Honda dealer twice for this anomaly, the memory dumped, and no data found. Honda claims there is nothing wrong with the car.

5 Engine problem of the 2008 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/27/2008

This is the second time since purchasing the vehicle April 2008 that I've started the vehicle and the engine revved at a high idle speed like I was flooring the accelerator except my foot was on the brake. I'm concerned that this may happen when I'm coasting without my foot on any pedals and the car may accelerate on it's own. The first time this occurred, I had my foot on the brake and put the car in neutral and the high revving stopped. I took it to a Honda dealer and they said sometimes the accelerator valve sticks and they sprayed lubricant on it.

7 Engine problem of the 2004 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/17/2008

Air conditioning compressor failed, no noise,no indication of any problem. Replaced the compressor and inspected the system for debris. The system would only cool to about 75% of what it was before the failure. Replaced the second compressor under parts warranty , with this compressor it blows cold (42 deg. ) about 80 % of the time, the other 20% it will only get to 50deg. No further repair attempts were made.

9 Engine problem of the 1999 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 03/24/2008

Hello I have a 1999 Honda crv. . I have 102k on my car. I have had taken my car to a repair shop (hondapro) and they told me that particular engine has had problems specifically with the valves overtightening and causing the head to need to be replaced. No symptoms accrue then the cel comes on with codes of misfire, by that time its too late. Burnt and cracked valves are a common problem with this car. I have read several forums that has other owners of the Honda crv that has had the same problem and had to replace the head that costs the consumer at least between 3-5k to fix the problem. I have already replaced the valves on mine once at about 87,327 miles. I don't think that the engine head is a good one when its only been less that 15k miles and the problems come back. I hope something can get done about this head problem. Thank you.

10 Engine problem of the 2004 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/01/2007

Heard a "pop" sound while driving. A/c stopped working, warm air, heater only. After being checked by midas, a replacement cost of the compressor/condenser (same part) was quoted for over $2,000. I have been without ac since (happened in 2007). Honda quote is over $2,000 as well.

11 Engine problem of the 2000 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 11/21/2006

2000 Honda crv - valve seat problem involving necessary head replacement. This is a known defect affecting a large percentage of models produced. The metal used to manufacture the head is apparently too soft of a compound to withstand the engine temperatures. I can not find a recall and have not been notified by Honda or advised of such by the dealer. The vehicle was in four months ago and I was not informed of any potential problem nor were any corrective measures implemented.

14 Engine problem of the 2002 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/30/2006

I had the a/c compressor replaced at 31000 miles at the local dealer under warranty . Then the compressor went out again around 4/30/05 at 68320 miles and talked to several mechs. At dealers and they told me that Honda told them to replace everything hoses lines & etc. After they fixed mine the first time at 31000 miles now it is 37000 + later and having to get another compressor replaced I guess every 30000 miles they will need to be replaced thought Honda was a better vehicle than that. Cant get help from dealership yet. Sad thing is it's almost paid for guess I will fix it and then trade this car being Honda isn't what they use to be very unhappy hope they get there problems fixed soon to many 02's a/c problems thanks m. P.

18 Engine problem of the 2005 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 12/28/2005

Driving down the on ramp onto I-95 my 2005 srv se engine caught on fire. The last time I serviced the car was last week for an oil change. Since then I have driven over 300 miles with no problems or warning signs. The car is not totaled and I am dealing with the insurance.

19 Engine problem of the 1999 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 12/15/2005

I began experiencing a misfire during idle in my 99 Honda crv about a year ago. I took the car to the dealer and he said my fuel injectors were bad and charged me approx. $750 to replace. I continued to have the problem so I did a tune up on the vehicle. This still did not solve the problem. I brought the car back to the dealer and he said he could not find anything wrong with the car and it was missing because I did not use Honda spark plugs. I replace the bosch plugs with Honda plugs and still experienced the problem. I lived with the problem for a few more months and final brought it back to the dealer for the third time. Now he says that I need a new head and new fuel injectors nd wants $4800 for the repairs. I have been researching the subject on the internet and there are hundreds of complaints of the same problem. The Honda valves need to be adjusted every 15,000 to 30,000 miles or they can get too tight and cause burned valves or a damaged head. The Honda owners manual only recommends adjusting the valves at a much greater interval. This is definitely a design defect and Honda should be held liable for their incompetent engineering ability. By the way the dealer I went to is napletons autowerks Honda in rockford illinois.

20 Engine problem of the 2000 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 10/18/2005

October 2005 - low compression, burned valves. Head machined, valves replaced. Only 82,000 miles. Complained to Honda and they reimbursed me for the parts & labor, almost $1,500. Fast forward to February 2008. Same failure, same valves, 162,000 miles. Cost now is $4,000 because the head can't be machined a second time. Dealer stated Honda recommends valves be adjusted every 30,000 miles. Owner's manual contradicts that - inspect/adjust valves only if noisy and at 105,000 miles. Because the valves get tight, they don't get noisy. Honda is aware of this problem and has a responsibility to repair/replace the defective head assembly.

21 Engine problem of the 2005 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 10/06/2005

The consumer experienced several mechanical problem with the 2005 Honda crv ex. The center bearing was replaced because it caused the vehicle to vibrate/noise while idling. 24 Engine problem of the 2004 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 10/29/2004

After my first oil change of my 2004 Honda Cr-v I noticed the oil light come on while driving the Cr-v home, because I had asked the asst. Service manager about the oil change fires and he said that was no longer a problem, I thought there was something else wrong with my Cr-v. About a block away from the dealership I noticed a white smoke coming out of the dashboard vents, I quickly pulled the vehicle into the checkered flag service entrance and exited the vehicle. Calling the asst. Service manager over to show him the vehicle smoke was commons out of the engine compartment. The complete underside of the vehicle was covered in oil. I asked to watch as the service technicians put it on the lift (after they had replaced 4 quarts of oil in the engine). The service tech. Then showed me the double oil ring gaskets on the oil filter. I asked how this could happen? I had researched this vehicle and the only negative remarks I could find were about the first oil change. I had purposely not had my children in the vehicle for this reason. I don't know how many failsafes a system needs, but this vehicle needs way to many. To add further insult I received an alert from Honda requesting that I give the service tech a notice to return the old oil gasket to the customer, does Honda even track that this already happened to me?.

Failure Date: 08/18/2004

Having seen the news reports on television and in my local newspaper about the fires resulting after the first oil change on 03-04 Honda Cr-vs I was more than apprehensive about my first oil change. I called my dealer to make an appointment and mentioned the fire problem. The dealer was unaware of any such problem. Now I'm even more concerned! how can this be? isn't Honda doing anything about this potential life-threatening issue?.

Failure Date: 05/15/2004

Took new 2004 Honda Cr-v into dealer (bob barbour Honda of greenville, nc) for first oil change on Saturday, may 15 2002. On Sunday, while driving across town to church with my wife and two young children, I noticed a large amount of smoke. I pulled out of traffic and a man at a nearby business came running out yelling that my car was on fire. We exited the vehicle, unbuckled the children from the saftey seats and got away from the car. The fire dept was called to extenguish the fire. Police officer also arrived on the scene. As it is a Sunday, I have not been in contact with the dealer yet to determine how they intend to correct the situation. This is a very dangerous situation.

32 Engine problem of the 2001 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 03/10/2004

I've had two valve jobs done on my 2001 crv, once at around 45,000 miles and than again at 95,000 both times it was the number 3 valve that had to be replaced. The owner's manual I have indicates that the valves need to be adjusted at 105,000 miles but according to the dealer where I had the work done it needs to be done every 15,000 miles. I find that this type of maintenance on a non-performance car ridiculous not to mention expensive and time consuming.

35 Engine problem of the 2003 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 01/07/2004

My 2003 Honda Cr-v ex 4wd had an engine fire one morning after I started the car 10 minutes later. The weather temperature was in the teens that morning. It was a total loss, it burned completely. The only recent work done to the car was its first 3000 mi oil change. I purchased this car in September 2003, and this engine fire happened on January 07, 2004. The car had 3300 miles on the odometer. I've searched NHTSA. Gov web site's database, and found that there was another incident that is very similar to my situation. I've also found messages posted to newsgroups on edmunds. Com that other people had the same engine fire after oil change. I am very concerned about the safety of this vehicle, and would like the government to launch an investigation against the 2003 Honda crv's.
