Honda CR-V owners have reported 57 problems related to check engine light on (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Honda CR-V based on all problems reported for the CR-V.
I scan the check engine light with obd scanner and its shows p219f code. I search on google and its come to this description. When a code p219f is stored, it means that the powertrain control module (pcm) has detected an imbalance error in the number four cylinder. To monitor the air to fuel ratio for each cylinder of the engine, the pcm uses data input from heated exhaust oxygen sensors (sometimes called air fuel sensors) and the crankshaft position (ckp) and camshaft position (cmp) sensors. I saw online and lots of people has same problem in Honda crv 2017-18 model. I already reported problem before with Honda but get standard reply.

All the warning lights came on after engine start eg, check engine light, power steering failure, driver assist, etc. It was every light. I took it to Honda in was diag. With po172 engine runs rich. Honda bullentin 19-032 was perform which included replacing the a/c control unit and software update. After one month and less than another 1000 milers driven I have the same problem. The dealership says my fuel injectors need to be replaced for $1400. The car has 38000 miles on it and just came off warranty. This is a known problem and apparently happens in colder climates but I lived in GA. Completely unacceptable.
I was driving the vehicle on my town's streets around 35 mph as usual when my vehicle's check engine light started flashing and I was unable to accelerate past 20 mph. I immediately took the vehicle to the autozone in town and they stated it was an engine misfire. The vehicle was taken to the nearest car repair shop as a Honda dealership was over 25 miles away and I was told that it was an engine misfire in cylinder 1. They are still trying to find out what caused the misfire. Why was crv's not included under the class lawsuit with Honda?.

My vehicle, a 2017 Honda crv ex-l has a 1. 5 liter turbo engine with approximately 148,000 miles on it. It has been meticulously maintained with regular fluid and oil changes. Several days ago my crv began lurching with a misfire, first the power was greatly reduced and then the engine lost all power and a check engine light and then all warning lights came on. I have on occasion smelled a gas type smell in the passenger compartment. A friend has a obd11 reader and my engine showed a p 0304 code which is a cylinder 4 misfire and a p 2097 code which is a post catalytic converter too rich warning. I had the vehicle towed to lute riley Honda in richardson, TX and a warranty service was performed that I understand is a resetting of engine codes and a hvac control unit was replaced. Upon picking the vehicle up after driving just a few miles the engine lurching returned and ultimately the engine light came on and power was reduced to about 10 miles per hour. This happened in an intersection and was extremely dangerous, luckily I was able to pull off and stop the engine. After waiting a few minutes I restarted the engine and with no engine light on drove very slowly to my home. I plan on taking the vehicle back to the dealer in the morning.
I have a 2018 Honda crv ex. The check engine light came on with the emissions system problem warning at times, and at other times, all warning lights came on simultaneously. At times it drives fine while one or all these lights are on, but twice when I was driving 30-40 mph, I have lost power, having to pull off to the side of the road.
Tl the contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while coasting downhill, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that on approaching a stop sign, the brake pedal was depressed and the check engine warning light disappeared. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal to the floorboard, the vehicle failed to respond with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over and had the vehicle towed to bend Honda located at 2225 ne hwy 20, bend, or 97701, (541)797-2054, where the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of failure. The failure mileage was 29,500.
Driving car on slight uphill grade a a misfire occurred causing a flashing check engine light. Throttle control was defeated by design and the car came to a stop in a lane with no shoulder and semi trucks behind me. Was able to cycle key a few times and throttle control was restored until car misfired again and same thing happened again. Talked to local Honda service department and was told that what happened is by design, to protect the catalytic converter in the event of a misfire. . This is a dangerous design flaw. There are other ways to protect the catalytic converter and still leave the car running with at least partial power. Many manufacturers simply cut fuel delivery to the cylinder that is misfiring, leaving you less power but still safe to drive. . This problem is a simple fix for Honda with a reflash. This dangerous situation was created by a simple spark plug issue on one cylinder.
I was driving on I-5 about 70 mph, suddenly the car started running rough and speed dropped immediately to 10-12 mph. The check engine light came on. I immediately pulled to the side of the road. After a minute or so the car returned to normal. I continued driving to the next dealer and had them inspect the car. They could find nothing wrong and gave me back my car. After driving an additional 15 minutes the same thing happened only the check engine light and many other warning lights came on and flashed. Once again I pulled to the side of the road and was towed to the dealership. They then changed the oil, replaced a fouled spark plug, adjusted the fuel injector settings and replaced the climate control unit. Honda has been unable to explain to me why this would solve the problem long term.
Vehicle was driven Friday 1/3/2020 in a mix of driving that included thirty-five miles at 70mph+ and secondary trip of ten miles in town that was a mix of traffic lights and slow moving traffic. While driving vehicle in slow moving traffic cabin of vehicle filled with gas fumes, first faintly, but became worse until headache and nausea occurred. Vehicle was eventually parked and rested for ten minutes to check oil along with interior air refresh. While checking oil I observed the oil level . 75 inches above the full mark on the dip stick with an overall strong odor of fuel. Engine operated as it always has, no check engine light, and no evidence of drive ability problems. Oil level was also observed to be . 75 inches above full mark 11/24/2019 and subsequent photo was taken. Oil was changed 1/4/2020 at 50,189 with oil life at 50% with 5,714 miles. Prior oil change service occurred at 44,475 miles on 8/27/2019 and the oil level was verified at full line . Fuel smells have been noticed in this vehicle since 300 miles on odometer. Vehicle was brought to dealer December 12/2017 for fuel smell complaint but no rectification made. 12/2018 the dealer performed TSB 18-114 which included hvac module replacement, and reprogram tcu and pcm, and change oil. After this much anticipated update virtually no change was observed as oil rise and fuel smells continued to occur. During the winter of 2018-2019 oil rise increased . 50" above full mark at 5000 mile oil, but premium fuel was utilized consistently. We also observed very few instances of gas smell in cabin. Manufacturer has communicated this vehicle does not require premium fuel. This vehicle is driven mostly highway miles, 25 miles per trip at 70mph+. Our driving situation contradicts the manufacturer explanation of short trips as cause of excessive oil dilution by fuel.
On 10/16/2019, dealer replaced all of the fuel injectors, because they failed Honda's tests. Picked up the vehicle on the evening of 10/16/2019 and drove it home. Started driving it to work on 10/17/2019 and while accelerating on the interestate, the engine started misfiring (violent thuds) and the check engine light started flashing repeatedly. I lost power and was able to make it to the side of the road. As soon as the vehicle was stopped, I placed the vehicle in park and then the check engine light no longer blinked or illuminated. Had the vehicle towed to the Honda dealership. Vehicle did not misfire prior to the repairs made by Honda. Attached is the fuel injector repairs invoice. I also had all required maintenance as indicated in the Honda service manual. Vehicle has approximately 61000 miles.
Driving on the street about 50 mph and check engine light turned on then engine went limp with a maximum speed of g 20mph. Had to pull to the side turned engine off and let it rest for about 5 minutes and restarted the car and it drive fine. Went to Honda dealership had it check and they said can not find anything wrong with the cr v.
Car was parked and burst into flames from engine compartment. No check engine lights no issues with car. Some building damage from fire. Car totaled, engine block melted from fire.

Took crv into dealer due to engine oil smelling strong of gasoline. Was told they looked over the car and could not determined why and that the odor was normal. Was also told this is normal due to having a turbo engine yet told my VIN # falls into the effected "oil over full' issue and I have an extra year of power terrain warranty. To my knowledge, oil level was only slightly elevated. Nothing was done to remedy the issue, no service bulletin or oil change. Crv only has 19500 miles. No check engine light or running issues. Engine oil appears dirty yet onboard system states that oil life is at 50%.
The vsa and check engine light will frequently come on and then if I take the vehicle over 2500 rpms I will lose power and the engine will stutter. This happens in anytime the vehicle is in motion, whether it's city streets or highway.

My car was in motion I was making a right turn into the highway when my car just stopped. I turned it off, when I tried to turn it back on, it didn't. I started to smell something burning. So I just left it alone. Only the lights on the dashboard and the radio turned on, I was able to control the windows. The warning lights that came up were the electronic power steering, charging system, and the check engine lights.
Takata recall 2. 4l vtc actuator replacement I have had a few Hondas with this engine it is very common in this engine the vtc system relies on proper oil pressure and allows the vtc actuator to make continuous intake valve timing changes based on operating conditions. Intake valve timing is optimized to allow the engine to produce maximum power. If an error occurs, the vtc system control is disabled and the valve timing is no longer variable. This should be repaired sooner rather than later to avoid a potential check engine light possibly accompanied with rough idle and/or lack of power or stalling.

While driving the Cr-v down the country roads in my area the vehicle started to shake and loose power. The check engine light came on and while trying to find a safe place to pull off the vehicle began loosing power. With the gas pressed to the floor the vehicle would not go above five miles an hour. Finding a location to pull over. The vehicle was shut off and the engine was crackling and smelled like it was burning. Getting out of vehicle for safety reasons allowed showed that the smell was worse on the outside. The vehicle was towed to the dealership where it was deemed in operable. They provided me with a loaner; however, I am paying for a vehicle that cannot be driven. This vehicle was only off the lot for three months with less than 800 miles.
I have a 2013 Honda crv at about 65,000 miles. The vsa, eps, and check engine light came on all at the same time. I noticed that the car was running rough while idle and would not pick up after stopping. I researched this problem and notated that it seems to be a common issue for the timing chain to stretch. I have been meticulous about maintenance on my vehicle. Notably timing chains should last the entire life of the engine. I have taken my car to the Honda dealership and been advised that indeed the timing chain needs to be replaced along with the vtc actuator (notably another common issue with these models). The price to fix this is outrageous considering the low miles and meticulous maintance by the Honda dealership. I believe an investigation needs to completed as this issue can cause serious damage to your engine with little to no warning that something is wrong.

I noticed the oil level being over full in the fall of 2018, at that time we had about 6,000 miles on the vehicle. At 7237 miles I had my first oil change our dealer on October 15, 2018. I became aware of the oil dilution issue after receiving a letter from Honda regarding service bulletin 18-114. I checked the oil level and found it to be way over-filled on December 1, 2018. I visited the dealer and they advised that a permanent fix was on its way and I should wait for a formal recall, however I was very concerned about the long term affect on our car's engine so I returned to the dealer and expressed my displeasure with the delay. They called me a day or two later indicating that they would perform the recall work which was completed on January 8, 2019. I checked the oil level immediately after the oil change and found it was at the top of the orange plastic tip of the dipstick (I realize the full level is at the top hole in the orange tip). Hoping that the oil dilution issue was fixed, I checked the oil again today, February 15, 2019 after the vehicle sat in the garage all night. The oil level was found to be way above the full mark and beyond the top of the orange tip by more than . The oil dilution issue has not been corrected in my vehicle. I filed a complaint with Honda mc and received a phone call from a tech who informed me that "there was no issue with the vehicle and if the check engine light came on to return to the dealer". I expressed my displeasure with this response and she repeated her "canned" response. I am not the only owner of this vehicle/engine with the same issue. I request that the NHTSA formally investigate this matter as the canadian and chinese governments have and have found this matter to be real.
Takata recall car is sputtering, and then stalling, alarm system goes off unexpectantly, check engine light and other lights go off - reads as misfire and has to deal with emisions system. Appears to happen in other model Hondas and some type of switch. Dangerous if car stalls in traffic.

During cold weather operation on 01/30/2019 after ~10-15 minutes of driving (and after the engine temperature gauge indicated a warmed up engine) I experienced engine sputtering when accelerating from a stop sign in a residential area. The engine "skipped" once below 10mph which felt like a bad shift (but it has a cvt) and then once reaching ~17mph, the engine repeatedly sputtered preventing further acceleration; the check engine light began flashing while the sputtering was occurring. I was able to limp the vehicle an additional ~. 1 miles to my driveway. After turning the car off, I was able to restart the engine with no engine light on, but had the vehicle towed to the nearest dealership for further evaluation.
While driving vehicle in the city, check engine light flashes on and off. Vehicle loses power and will not accelerate, creating serious safety issue. Dealer confirmed engine oil dipstick had unusally strong smell of gasoline. Vehcile has been serviced once by Honda dealer. I was assured that all necessary fixes were made. Same issue happened again. Returned vehicle to Honda dealer for additional service.
October 2018 we took our new c RV on a trip to nashville, TN from traverse city, mi. The check engine light came on and the oil can icon lit up. I called the Honda dealer where I bought the c RV from and they had no idea what was going on. I got out and checked the oil and found it high. I brought the Honda to a quick lube to check it. They changed the oil then sent me on my way. After arriving back home tc a few weeks later we got a recall letter from Honda. On Wednesday, December 26th, williams Honda in tc did the recall work. On Thursday my wife got in the vehicle to go shopping and the heater would not work. She called the Honda dealer and brought the Honda to them. They said that they did not cause the heater to not work with the recall repair. After doing something, the heater began to work again. This is very worrisome, we are not sure what to do next. On an earlier occasion our new Cr-v would not start as after only 30 minutes of sitting the battery was dead. The Honda dealer told us you can't leave any lights on as the battery wont last very long.
1. 5l turbo engine. Oil is diluted with gasoline, raising oil level, reducing friction and increasing engine wear. In worst case the oil level causes check engine light and engine stalling, causing safety issue. Oil smells strongly of gas, inside cabin has stron gas smell at times. Engine does not heat enough to warm the car in cold weather.
I have the oil dilution problem with my 2018 Cr-v. I bought the car in March of this year, brand new. I currently have 9000 miles and had to have the oil changed four times due to gas mixing with the oil, strong gas odor and oil over full. I have also had an issue with all the warning lights coming on at once and cycling over and over, this has happened at least three times. I contacted Honda America and was told this was a normal occurrence and no harm will come to my engine. I did not know this was an issue until the check engine light came on.
My car is a 2017 Honda crv touring with the 1. 5 liter turbocharged engine and 3200 miles. On 3/18/2018 I was driving at 70mph on interstate 180 in pennsylvania when the car suddenly slowed, lost power, the check engine light came on, and multiple electrical systems reported malfunctions in the dash display. The car was towed to the Honda dealer and diagnosed with excess gas (approximately one quart) in the oil. The oil and filter was changed as a temporary solution, and a tech line case (ref # 4089104) was opened with Honda. I was told at this time there is no permanent recall or fix. I was advised that this is a known problem in cold climates where the car is used for short drives and does not warm up completely. Since then I have learned that all crvs with the 1. 5 liter turbocharged engine have been recalled in china for the same problem.
Like many other 2017-2018 Honda Cr-v owners, I discovered a significant amount of gasoline in the oil reservoir of my vehicle after normal usage. In less than a month of ownership and less than 1,000 miles driven, my Cr-v's oil reservoir was 0. 5 quarts over full due to dilution from uncombusted gasoline. This problem and its cause have been documented by Cr-v owners on multiple other websites and forums. When I pulled the oil dipstick from my Cr-v's engine, I immediately smelled gasoline and recognized that excessive dilution had occurred. I am greatly concerned about the performance, safety, and longevity of my Cr-v's engine due to this deficiency. Furthermore, I am questioning the safety of the 2017-2018 Honda Cr-v given that multiple Cr-v owners have documented stalled engines and engine damage due to this problem. I am thankful I caught this problem in my Cr-v before the check engine light came on or before my engine stalled; however, oil dilution will continue to plague these vehicles until Honda provides a long-term solution or recall.
Car in motion at approximately 45 mph on city street, when suddenly all power is lost. Engine still running but no power when pushing accelerator pedal. This lasts from 5 to 10 seconds. Then suddenly kicks in again. No check engine light appears. Talked to Honda about this and they said they have never heard of this happening. This has happened four times in this vehicle.

Check engine light and several other warning lights came on dash. Car has 77,806 miles. Dealer said timing chain is stretched. I have had all recommended maintenance performed on the vehicle and am the only owner. Service department said I should get oil changes more often than recommended. This should not be considered a normal 'wear' item at this age/mileage.
While driving at 80 mph on a highway, the check engine light appeared and the vehicle decreased in speed to 50 mph on its own, although I never removed pressure from the accelerator pedal. The vehicle began to stall and pull back as if it were going to die. The vehicle did not respond when I depressed the accelerator pedal and did not increase speed. I exited the highway, applied the brakes, and came to a complete stop, but when I depressed the accelerator pedal once the traffic light turned green, the vehicle would not accelerate more than 20 mph. The check engine light remained on the entire time. I drove the vehicle to the nearest Honda dealership. The dealership advised that the vehicle was giving misfire codes and they want to keep it overnight to run tests on it. The service advisor said that the vehicle may have gone into "limp" mode, what that is. This happened while the vehicle was in motion on a highway at 80 mph.
When backing up out of the garage engine stalls. Have to restart vehicle to keep backing up. Vehicle has 25,000 miles. No check engine light, Honda dealer thinks it's normal because it can't recreated.
The contact owns a 2004 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact also stated that a sensor for the catalytic converter also illuminated. The contact also stated that the front passenger's side door lock seized. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

I bought my Honda Cr-v 2015 touring model December 15,2014 with 2 miles on it. On my way to work in February I was driving on the highway at about 70mph when all of a sudden I felt a jerk on my car, (I thought it was just wind since we were supposed to have some bad winter weather come through) I looked down and my check engine light came on and the speedometer was going down. I pulled over to the shoulder and put my car in park and turned it off and waited a few minutes, it restarted and everything was fine. It has since happened to me two more times.
