36 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2013 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/26/2014

Bran new Honda crv purchase maybe 13miles21k miles later and after a scheduled oil change, the vehicle was idling rougher than normal(I know the difference in the vehicle, from bran new till 21k miles) then we started loosing power on the takeoff. 1 day later after reaching 25mph the vehicle felt as though we lost all power and the check engine light came on and went off as quick. Called the dealership and told them exactly what happened and all they said(is the light still on, we need a light to pull a code to diagnose it)took it in the next business day for a lookthey could not find anything due to no light and no malfunction at that time. Days later the wife taking the daughter to school proceeded to merge onto interstate driving about 55mph. Not even a mile onto the interstate the vehicle slowed down like loss of power and shut off, in the middle of 2lane 70mpha diesels swerved just in time to miss smashing the crv from behindwife was so scared and my daughter was shakingthe wife let it roll off the interstate onto the shoulder as much as the vehicle would allow possible. Towed the vehicle into dealership with light onthey pulled a code that told them (3rd cylinder misfire) the dealership changed the sparkplug for the 3rd cylinder and we picked it upa few weeks later the vehicle did the same exact thing to at only feet further than last time traffic nearly piling up and colliding with one another to miss the crv. Wife and daughter scared out of their minds and shaking up bad. Towed it into dealership and they pulled the exact code the dealership changed the 3rd coil and flashed the computer and called Honda to ask if the results needed any further fix. The manager of the dealership told me Honda said" it is within the running limits" and we picked up the crvtill this day the new21k mile Honda crv continues to shutter, lose ac fan power and dive power with no code to date.

41 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2000 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/23/2010

We found what we thought would be the perfect vehicle for her a 2000 Honda crv with only 37,500 miles on it. After looking at the vehicle we decided to purchase it due to its great condition and lack of use. The check engine light was on when we looked at it. But the people we dealt with locally stated it was probably due to lack of driving and would need only a tune up. We picked the vehicle up on Friday 8-20. I tuned up the crv with new platinum plugs, new rotor, distributor cap, and plug wires. The truck ran a little better but still had the check engine light on. I decided to bring it to a Honda dealer and have them look at it first thing Monday 8-23. They stated it may be a valve adjustment. The dealer's service department called me and stated that the problems were much larger. A rocker arm had broken off and was floating in the engine and had done damage to valves etc. The crv would need a top end rebuild with head etc at a cost of $4400. We paid only $4500 for the vehicle.

42 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/08/2010

On may 8th, I drove my 2006 Honda Cr-v home from a restaurant. I traveled about 25 miles per hour in my neighborhood. My Honda Cr-v suddenly shut off engine and restarted itself. The vsa light, check engine light and one more light came on. I was so scared. On may 10th, I took my car to Honda dealer to be checked out. They told me that the vehicle stability assistance (vsa) system failed after I owned the car for four years and at 45000+ miles. Dealer told me it cost $2300 dollars to replace the system. I did not accept it. I asked dealer and America Honda corp. To help. Finally they agreed I paid $725 dollars for the entire repair.

43 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 02/20/2010

On February 20, while driving on the new york state thruway our car shimmied and then the engine light came on. Simultaneously, my wife heard a sound coming from the engine. We quickly pulled onto the exit (just south of buffalo) into an automobile repair shop that was right off the exit ramp. When we pulled into the repair shop, the car stalled. A quick diagnosis by the repair shop concluded that the issue was not repairable that day as the shop was closing in 15 minutes. On Monday, the repair shop reported that the spark plug in cylinder 2 had blown out. To attempt a fix, they inserted a heli-coil and plug but were still unable to get the pressure above 40 p. S. I on the cylinder. A deeper diagnosis indicated scouring/scarring on the cylinder 2 bore as well as the cylinder head caused by the spark plug debris. I was told the only cost effective fix for this was to get a replacement engine. To get another opinion, I contacted a local Honda dealer in the buffalo area (ray laks) and they confirmed over the phone that scarring on the cylinder sleeve would require a replacement engine. The plugs that were on the car were the oem factory installed. I had planned on replacing these at 110,000 miles per the Honda maintenance schedule. My car had 105,713 miles when the failure occurred. I am the original and only owner of this automobile. The fix was to replace the entire engine. The failure of this oem component at highway speeds could have resulted in serious injury or death.

44 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2001 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 11/15/2008

Check engine light came on to my 2001 Honda Cr-v. Identified as a misfire in cyl #1, and low compression in that cylinder. The head was removed, and one of the exhaust valves in the #1 cylinder was burned. The valve clearance on that cylinder was zero. A "valve job" was done and the engine was reassembled. Cost was $1450.

45 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2001 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 11/07/2008

2001 Honda crv started to have a rough idle followed by the check engine light turning on approximately one year ago. Took the vehicle in for a tune up at a local dealer and problem temporarily went away. Recently the problem got worse and the check engine light came back on. The Honda dealer evaluated the check engine light reported that there was a problem with the valves. I had the dealer conduct a valve adjustment and they reported that compression on the #3 cylinder only reported 45 psi and recommended replacing the cylinder head at a cost of $4500 dollars. The service representative the Honda dealership was aware of problems with the Honda crv and Honda has not taken any responsibility for the problem nor offered to repair the problem. I believe Honda has been aware of problems with the 2001 Honda crv. Request the nhtsb conduct an investigation.

46 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/15/2008

Check engine light came on. Brought the car to the dealer. Was told the oxygen sensor needed to be replaced (sensor #1) at a cost of $498.

47 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2001 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 12/24/2007

2001 Honda Cr-v se check engine light went on, idle became extremely rough and stalling while driving. Nothing unusual preceded this incident. Took the car into to be diagnosed and was told the 4th cylinder was only holding 15-20% of required pressure, it had gone soft. Researched issue and found Honda has issued a technical service bulletin #03038 regarding this problem. It is a known defect in the Honda Cr-v as the Honda maintenance guide does not recommend any valve maintenance until 105,000 miles. However, it has been found that the engine's high compression rate causes the valves to warp and become soft unless they are adjusted every 30,000-35,000 miles. Have been in contact with Honda and all they are willing to do is split the cost 50/50 of this major repair, over $3,000. They are many documented cases of this occurring with the 1999-2001 Honda Cr-vs that use the b210z engine.

48 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2003 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 12/14/2007

The contact owns a 2003 Honda Cr-v. The contact noticed that the engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. When releasing pressure off the brake without applying pressure to the accelerator pedal, the vehicle dramatically lunged forward. She took the vehicle to a local mechanic and they stated that the throttle position sensor caused the failure. The manufacturer did not provide any assistance. The powertrain was unknown. The failure and current mileages were 74,500.

49 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2001 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/07/2006

Rough idle, engine would stumble but recover several times when idling before fully warmed up, poor fuel mileage. No mil (check engine light), and no codes or pending codes detected. Dealer tested and strongly recommended valve adjustment. Only 63k miles on it and valves were not noisy. Owner's manual states, "adjust valves at 105, 000 miles or if noisy". Neither were true. I researched Cr-v message boards and found lots of "1st gen. " Cr-v's (mainly from '99 to '01) were having problem whereby some valve seats were receding into cylinder head causing need for premature valve adjustments, burnt exhaust valves, or some even needing to replace cylinder head. Most people who had the more severe problems also experienced mil lighting up & code indicating engine misfire. I called american Honda corp several times. The 1st time was like pulling teeth to get them to admit they knew about this issue, and the corresponding TSB (service bulletin) sent to dealers. They finally admitted it. But after reviewing my case twice, both times they refused to reimburse me for the valve adjustment. They claimed: 1) dealers are franchised & have nothing to do with them, 2) it's a machine, and machines need adjusting from time to time, 3) I didn't purchase extended warranty so they can't help me, 4) maintenance schedule in the owner's manual is just a general guideline, valves should be adjusted sooner, and 5) should I require cylinder head replacement in the future, they might offer me some kind of restitution, but no guarantees. Engine runs fine now after valve adjustment, but who's to say in another 10 to 30k it won't need it again, perhaps only to find out it's too far out of spec & will need new cyl. Head! it's printed clearly, in black & white in owner's manual: "adjust valves at 105,000 miles or if noisy". Perhaps we should start class action suit against Honda. They need to stand behind their product, redesign the cyl. Heads and do a recall! buyers beware!.

50 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2001 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/26/2006

: the contact stated the engine idled erratically intermittently while slowing down at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop, where the valve was replaced at 99,000 miles. At 134,000 miles the check engine light illuminated upon initial acceleration. The vehicle was returned to the mechanic, who determined there was a problem with the engine head. The valve melted into the number 3 cylinder. The engine head needs to be replaced. There is a NHTSA action number 10008524 for the engine.

51 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2001 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/18/2004

The contact owns a 2001 Honda Cr-v. He stated that intermittently while driving the engine warning light illuminated on the instrument control panel then the engine misfired. The vehicle was towed to a local repair facility. The mechanic concluded that the engine valves burned and the engine needed to be rebuilt. The manufacturer was notified, and a representative concluded that they were aware of the problem; however, since the warranty expired they would not provide any assistance. No repairs have been made. The vehicle identification number was unavailable. The failure mileage was 55000. The current mileage was 135000.

52 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/14/2004

On may 29, 2004, I purchased a Honda Cr-v, 2004, vehicle from casey Honda in newport news. It is a four-wheel drive vehicle with automatic transmission. I had the vehicle for only two weeks and I only drove it 109 miles. The odometer right now shows 117 miles. On June 13, I was driving the vehicle in newport news, va when suddenly the engine stopped in the middle of the road, in front of the stop traffic light. There was a burning smell coming out of the hood and the check engine light came on. When I turn on the engine the tachometer show 1000 rpm, then 3000 rpm and then back again to 2000 rpm. Thus the tachometer shows an unstable running engine when the transmission is on the neutral or parking position. I was able to start the engine after a few minutes and get home which was fortunately only a mile away. On June 14, 2004 I contacted the casey Honda dealership and they sent their representative to tow away the vehicle. The odometer showed 117 miles. The same day the dealership serviceman, mr. Kevin, called me and told that the vehicle is not drivable and that they have to keep the vehicle for about a week until the parts will arrive and they will try to fix it. He told me that the causes of the problem are some defective parts that they need to replace.

53 Check Engine Light On problem of the 1999 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 02/04/2004

Honda crv check engine light has come on three times. Dealer had done schedule maintainance including changing plugs. Dealer has done all schedule maintainance and service manager stated they had adjusted valves at the 60k tune-up. At about 70k took auto to dealer for check engine light. They said lugs misfired, reset code. Month later check engine light came on went off next day. Dealer said "ah, just drive it, if it comes on again bring it in". Month later light comes on. Now dealer said need a new head because of valve problem quoted $3350 price. Told him no way was I paying that, he talked to Honda rep and price is dropped to $1400. I am still getting ripped off. This will be the last Honda I own.

54 Check Engine Light On problem of the 1999 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 12/13/2003

After 112,000 miles my 1999 Honda Cr-v check engine light came on. Shortly thereafter the engine was running rough resulting in a burned exhaust valve and $1200 valve job. Acording to Honda maintenance schedule it is suggested the valve clearances be inspected at 105,000 mi. As this is such a critical item the Honda should make the consumer "painfully aware" of this problem to avoid high cost repairs, especially since it is a very common problem. My research has found many people with the same burnt exhaust valve situation, some ocuuring before the scheduled maintenance required. Bottom line - Honda should pay for these repairs.

55 Check Engine Light On problem of the 1998 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 09/01/2003

The vehicle lost power while driving on the highway and drove roughly. Dealer discovered a burnt #3 valve in the engine to be the cause of the problem. The check engine warning light had come on before the lost of power and rough running occurred.
