37 Headlight Switch problem of the 2004 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/13/2011

While driving both dim headlights went out. I pulled over and realized the bright head lights did work while the dims no longer worked. After replacing both bulbs and realizing they still did not work. I investigated the issue and after visually inspecting the wiring harness that plugs into the combination switch (blinker/headlight control) there is obvious signs of heat damage and electrical corrosion.

40 Headlight Switch problem of the 2002 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/04/2011

Honda crv 2002: headlights - low beam - both went out at once, forcing use of high beam for night driving until it could be fixed. Repair shop diagnosed as the "lighting switch & repair harness" required replacement. Repair shop mentioned something like "seen this before" - I googled & found it has happened enough that others have reported here. I took what I had found online to repair shop, they said it was exactly what my crv experienced. Updated 06/30/11 updated 07/01/11.

41 Headlight Switch problem of the 2004 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

Both headlights (low beam) went out simultaneously due to an overheated connection between the headlight switch assembly and wiring harness (plug). Updated 12/12/11.

42 Headlight Switch problem of the 2004 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/11/2011

Both lowbeam headlights both stopped working at the same time. I replaced both bulbs but they still did not work. No fuses had burnt out, so started to research. After checking online, I opened the plastic casing to the steering column, and found that the switch had burned and the plastic melted. This is obviously defective wiring on the part of Honda, otherwise the fuse for the headlights would have burned out before the switch could have. I find this to be a very important safety issue as this is the primary vehicle for my wife and infant son. Updated 12/12/11 updated 12/13/11.

45 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

We bought our 2005 Cr-v se in sum 10 and love the vehicle. Since then however, we've had to change headlight bulbs approximately 10 to 12 times. Sometimes a single bulb, sometimes both. . . They simply go out every couple of months. We even had to ride home one night with "high beams" because the both low beams simply failed. The next day we purchased new bulbs, installed them on the Cr-v, and now the low-beams work, but the high beams do not. It's kind of getting old buying new bulbs every few months! my problem/concern is the fact that we have a known recall for a extremely similar issue on 2002 thru 2004 Cr-v models. That recalls summary states: "due to tension from the combination switch wiring harness, wear on the surface of the electrical terminal can occur, yielding copper oxide, which increases electrical resistance. Increased electrical resistance may cause the terminal ends to melt within the wiring harness connector. " the consequence listed on this recall "if the terminal ends melt within the wiring harness connector, the low beam headlights may become inoperative, reducing driver visibility and increasing the risk of a crash. " based on our experience, it seems the recall listed above should be expanded to include the 2005 Cr-v models as well. We've looked at current recalls for our vehicle under the Honda owners site and there are none listed for our VIN. . . ? Honda may want to re-visit this recalls coverage before any other 2005 Cr-v owner's headlights go out in the middle of the night while driving. . . This is a major safety concern!.

46 Headlight Switch problem of the 2004 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/02/2010

Both headlights went out. Replaced the headlight switch in August, 2010 both headlights failed again in October, 2010. . . Went to replace the switch again and the mechanic noted the wiring harness appears overheated and needs replacement.

47 Headlight Switch problem of the 2003 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/25/2010

Complete loss of low beam headlights on 2003 Honda Cr-v connector in steering column apparently exposed to high heat or fire, causing melting of plastic parts in connector and corrosion to metal pins in switch. Updated 05/02/11.

48 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 02/28/2010

2/28/10 driver's side low beam headlight failed. Bulb replaced. A few hours later (fortunately not at the same time) passenger side low beam headlight failed. Bulb replaced. (high beams o. K. ) 12/2011 received police warning when passenger's side low beam headlight failed while driving (high beams okay). Both bulbs replaced. 6/2/12 driver's side low beam failure. Again, both bulbs replaced. 7/18/12 passenger's side low beam failed. I attempted to have both bulbs replaced. Passenger's side low beam was inoperative even with the new bulb. Technician checked the power supply with a volt meter. There was no ground on the passenger's side low beam. Driver's side low beam works (for now), and both high beams. My Cr-v was manufactured in 2005. Perhaps it has the same defective terminals, lighting switches and harnesses as those used in the 2002-04 Cr-v's recalled by Honda March 22, 2012? this makes night driving dangerous.

49 Headlight Switch problem of the 2003 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 12/25/2009

Low beam headlights went in unison while driving at night on a major highway. Exact similar problem was the reason for a recall on the 2002 Honda civic. See below for 2002 recall. 002 Honda civic recall id from NHTSA: 04v086000 auto recall date: 02/24/2004 vehicle component: exterior lighting:headlights estimated vehicles affected: 440000 2002 Honda civic defect summary: on certain passenger vehicles, the low-beam terminal on the head light wire harness can overheat and could cause the low beams to fail without warning. Defect consequence: an unexpected loss of low beams could result in a crash. Remedy: dealers will inspect the head light switch and coupler for signs of heat damage. If heat damage is present, the dealer will replace the switch and coupler. If no heat damage is present, the dealer will replace the head light switch and one mating pin in the coupler. Owner notification began on April 5, 2004. Owners should contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009. Notes: Honda (american Honda motor CO. ), p23 not an easy fix. If dealer did not have harness and correct coupler from past repair work, consumer would have to pay for a complete dash harness (over $500) and labor to re-install entire dash electrical (over $1000). Honda would not recognize 2002 recall as same concern and would not warranty the work. Out of pocket for a design defect and safety hazard to the tune of $222.

The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 110,000 and the current mileage was 230,000. Updated 11/23/11 updated 12/05/11.

52 Headlight Switch problem of the 2002 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 11/19/2007

Multiple problems with low beam headlights going out - high beams continued to work in all instances. First incident 11/19/2007 replaced part of wiring harness due to the wiring harness had melted. 9/20/2010 low beams went out again - replaced the headlight switch. 3/7/11 low beams out again - replaced the headlamp switch. 6/2/11 low beams out again - replaced the multiplex control module. 12/2/11 low beams out again - in shop disconnected and connected wiring - low beams working. 12/24/11 low beams went out. 12/25/11 low beams came back on by themselves. 1/4/2012 low beams out again - in shop checked connections. Picked up car low beams working. 1/5/2012 - low beams out again. Approximately 3 other visits to a mechanic - connections unplugged and replugged to get low beams working again. Also at least 5 other instances where the low beams went out and came back on before I could get the Cr-v to a mechanic. 9/2011 motor trends magazine reports issue of low beams headlights going out on Honda Cr-v models 2002 - 2005. I have spent over $1000 trying to get this issue resolved. Issue with wiring harness melting sounds very much like the recall that Honda issued for the fit - 'wiring harnesses for the headlamp control switch - the connector could overheat and fail, rendering the low-beam lamps inoperable. Honda notes that high-beam headlamp functionality is not impeded by this issue. '.
