4 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 2005 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 01/08/2008

We purchased a 2005 Honda crv in July of 2005, which came with bridgestone dueler h/t 684 215/65r16 98t tires. Dealership has inspected the car every yr. Since then. At inspection in sept. Of 2007, there were 13,180 miles on the 2 year old vehicle with the original tires. No problem indicated by serviceman with tires at that time. Over christmas of 2007, 3 mos. Later, my daughter and her husband sat in the back seat of the vehicle, and noticed a loud noise from the area of the tires. Next day husband took car to dealership to be checked out. Instead, dealer set appt. For tues. Jan. 8, 2007. In between those 2 times, vehicle had an oil change at jiffy lube. The serviceman at the jif. Lube stated front tires were worn and needed immediate replacement--interesting since all other dealership oil changes performed mentioned no tire wear. At the appt. On Jan. 8, 2008 [valley Honda, 4221 william penn highway, monroeville, PA 15146--ph:412-373-3000] a mechanic inspected the tires on vehicle, which now had 15,730 miles on them, the mechanic informed me the steel belts inside of the back tires were broken! he asked about the use of the vehicle for various purposes to which I responded no on all accounts. In addition, if we had hit a hole hard enough to break the steel belts in both of the back tires, one would think the car would be out of alignment, which it is not. No explanation from the dealership as to why the front tires were so badly worn and no explanation as to why the wear on the front tires was never noticed by their servicemen. The dealership stated "there is no warranty on those tires" but, offered to sell us 4 brand new yamaha tires at $89. 41 + $13. 50 for installation per tire, plus tax, plus a fee to dispose of the old tires. So far these tires have not failed, but we are scared to death to drive the vehicle on the parkway, turnpike, freeway, or any high speed road for fear of a tire failure that might cause an accident & injury.

5 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 2003 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 11/14/2007

Vibration at speeds of approximately 42, 62 and 72 mph, especially when road is curving to the left, that makes the entire vehicle vibrate, so that it is undrivable. Capitol Honda replaced tires with other tires and vibration was not found. When original tires reinstalled, vibration returns. Honda dealer believes that the imbalance is in the tires. Have taken tires back to America's tire twice for re-balance and they have added weights each time, by about 1/2 oz.

Report of bridgestone tire failure (tread separation) on 1999 Honda crv. While driving on interstate highway noticed vehicle vibration, and unable to determine if caused by road surface or vehicle. After about 200 miles vibration became bad enough to determine vehicle was at fault. Driver conducted visual (on vehicle) inspection of tires with no defect noted. After another 50 miles, vibration worsened to the point that it was evident below 50 mph. Removed right rear tire and discovered near failure tread separation. Tire is several years old and may have 40,000 miles wear. This is the second failure of this type tire on this vehicle in the past few years. First failure resulted in very low speed blow-out. Latest tire is available for inspection.

11 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 1999 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/12/2006

I have had two instances where there was tread separation on bridgestone dueler h/t 684 205 70r 15 95s. The first instance 2 years ago was catastrophic and caused $2300 in damage to the left rear of the car. Last week the car suddenly started vibrating. Inspection of the tires showed a large bubble under the tread of the right front tire. One of the defective tires was original equipment and the other tire was purchased as one of 4 replacement tires. The tires had 40-50,000 miles on them but still had plenty of tread remaining. There was no uneven wear on the tread. According to the information molded onto the tires, the tires were made a couple of years apart. This would lead me to believe that either their is a design defect in the tire or there is a manufacturing problem. I have been driving for over 45 years and this is the only tire I have ever had a problem with. In the first instance, a bridgestone tire dealer told me I had to report it to the manufacturer and provided a phone number. After two weeks of calling the given phone number that was never answered, I gave up. Thus, I am notifying you.

19 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 2002 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 10/10/2003

Friday evening while driving in 5:00 pm traffic I had a blowout on the interstate in my 2002 Honda crv. It was the driver's side back tire which had the blowout. The car is about 1 1/2 years old with 26,000 miles on it. I was not hurt nor was the car damaged. The tire is a bridgestone, I apologize that I do not know the exact model, and is the standard tire put on the car when it was sold to me new off the Honda lot. On Saturday morning I went to a tire shop to get a new tire and was informed that I had severe tread separation on the other 3 tires. The spare had as you can imagine no separation. The driver's front tire showed signs of severe separation, that even a novice like myself could notice. The gentlemen at the tire shop said that all four tires having tread separation could possibly be a defect from the factory. To make matters worse, in August 2003 I had a 20,000 mile check up at a local Honda dealer, which included tire rotation and inspection of the condition of the tire. In September 2003 I returned to the same Honda dealer to get the tires balanced. I am extremely concerned that the tire had a blowout but even more concerned that the mechanics did not notice the tread separation. I just thought I would pass along this bit of information.

21 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 2002 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/19/2003

May 19, 2003 at 6:30pm - bridgestone dueler h/t tire blew out; tire separated from tread and flew back and hit another vehicle. Took remaining parts of tire into firestone and was told by a representative "I can warranty out the damaged tire as a defect, but cannot replace other three tires - they look fine". I explained the other tire was "fine" until it blew out on the highway, I was shocked that he was willing to warranty the damaged tire as a defect, but would not replace the other tires of the same make and model. I have pictures of the damaged tire and compared it to other blow outs which have caused fatal accidents and found my tire looks exactly like other blow outs. The police officer who showed up to the accident did not take a report but did say that even at high speeds or laying a spike strip down would not cause a blow out like this and suspected a defect.

22 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 1997 Honda CR-V

The spare tire included with the new vehicle was mounted and used on approximately 6/20/01. On 6/29/01 the tire tread became separated from the rest of the tire while the vehicle was in motion. The tread separation caused vehicle body damage. Tire was submitted to manufacturer for adjustment. A paralegal for the manufacturer stated 'sorry' and declared that an 'impact break' was responsible for tread separation and I was denied compensation for the tire replacement and vehicle damage.
