I own a 2023 Honda Cr-v sport hybrid and have experienced multiple instances of sudden unintended acceleration. The issue occurs intermittently, typically at low speeds (25–30 mph) during stop-and-go traffic, or when the vehicle transitions from ev to gas mode. During these incidents, the vehicle unexpectedly surges forward for 1–2 seconds, even while the brake pedal is applied. The suspected issue involves the electronic throttle control system or a malfunction during the hybrid system's ev-to-gas transition. There are no warning lights or error codes, and the issue occurs sporadically. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This behavior puts both my safety and that of others at risk, especially in heavy traffic or near pedestrians. The unexpected acceleration while braking can lead to rear-end collisions, property damage, or injury, as the vehicle moves unpredictably. Yes. A Honda service technician experienced the issue firsthand while driving my vehicle. He then tested a 2025 Cr-v hybrid and reported similar behavior, suggesting it might be “normal. ” however, I strongly disagree, as the acceleration feels unsafe and abnormal. The vehicle has been inspected by the Honda dealership. A formal diagnosis was performed, but they did not find anything unusual. The service center stated they will not proceed further unless I can replicate the issue, which I cannot due to its intermittent nature. The vehicle has not been inspected by police, insurance, or independent mechanics yet. No. There were no warning lamps, alerts, or error messages before, during, or after the sudden acceleration events.

Driving I would lose all power like inwas out of gas. Would let it sit for a few minutes and it would run normally for a while then stall on the side of the road. Happened 2 times on the interstate and one on a back road.

It happened twice so far, while driving on the highway, suddenly the car would no longer respond to the accelerator pedal and the car started losing speed meanwhile the warning lights flashes on the dashboard. , in a panic we had to cruise to park on the highways shoulder. Shut the car off thinking the car may have overheated or something, then restarted the engine and the dashboard was very normal, we proceeded to drive cautiously to mechanic, the mechanic found no error code to lead him to any diagnoses. The car drives normally after each incident. We are very concerned that this event could happen in critical situation and cause accident or the faulty component may causing this issue may lead to other more serious power train trouble that will not be covered by warranty in the future. By searching online, we found too many owners have had the same experience but we solution was offered by Honda. We urge you to investigate and help owners to be safe on the roads.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the car had everyt warning light come on the dashboard- this happened multiple times to many people it's been widely reported online. Honda is covering it up and not doing anything about it. . . . . Every safety feature in teh car ceases to work! and does not operate- the car stalled in the middle of the highway! Honda is aware and hiding this issue. It's affective 2017-2019 crv. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes! I took to the dealer and they're aware of it. . . They said there is no recalls yet. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Honda is supressing this! were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no!.
On [xxx], my 2024 Honda Cr-v hybrid experienced a sudden loss of acceleration while driving on the highway, creating a dangerous situation where I was unable to merge or maintain speed. This put me at immediate risk of an accident as other vehicles were traveling at normal highway speeds. This issue arose less than 136 miles after my vehicle underwent recall repairs on [xxx] at superstition springs Honda in mesa, arizona. The recall repairs included: •fuel pump safety recall (NHTSA recall 24-049) •cvt greasing recall (NHTSA recall 24-123) after the recall repair, my vehicle displayed a dashboard warning on [xxx] stating: ? “emission system problem. Power may be reduced. See your dealer. ” following this warning, the vehicle failed to accelerate properly despite pressing the gas pedal, making highway driving unsafe. I took my vehicle back to the dealership immediately. The dealership categorized this as an emissions system failure but has not confirmed if it is related to the recall repairs. The dealership also stated that I would need to drive 500 miles after any repair to “confirm” the issue is resolved, which is unreasonable and unsafe given the circumstances. This is a serious safety defect. A sudden loss of acceleration on the highway creates a high risk of collisions, injuries, or fatalities. Other 2024 Honda Cr-v hybrid owners have reported similar emission system failures after recall repairs, suggesting this may be a widespread issue. This issue is now under review by Honda corporate (case #[xxx]), but I have not received a clear resolution or assurance that my vehicle will be permanently fixed. I request that NHTSA investigate whether Honda’s recall repairs are causing secondary defects leading to acceleration failures. This defect poses a significant safety risk and requires immediate attention. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The issue occurs seemingly randomly about once a month when driving on the highway. All of the sudden the car starts DE-accelerating. Even if you push the gas pedal all the way down it doesn’t go. It just goes slower and slower and thank goodness I’ve been able to pull over every time. Once I shutdown the car completely and turn back on then I have power again.

While driving down the freeway at around 60 mph, I sharply accelerated to negotiate traffic and my vehicle lost power and the check engine light was flashing. I was able to roll to an exit ramp where I could barely get up a slight incline. I was able to get out of traffic but at speed of less than 5 mph. It sounded like the vehicle was running on two cylinders. I pulled over and turned the car off. I was able to re-start the car after which it ran normally. I went directly to the dealership where they were unable to reproduce or diagnose the issue.

This is the 3rd incident with the same issue. I lose power when on a freeway. (other dates [xxx] and [xxx]). On [xxx] I entered [xxx] and had accelerated onto the freeway. Shortly after getting on the ramp, my check engine light went on/blinking and I couldn't accelerate anymore. I was able to pull over on the shoulder. I turned the car off, waited a minute and then turned it on again and the issue went away. This is the same scenario that I've experienced twice before. I am rarely on freeways. On [xxx], I was on an incline with curves and very little room on the shoulder. This was a very scary incident for me. All of these incidents shouldn't happen and it is very dangerous to lose power unexpectedly when driving on a freeway. Looking on the internet for a solution - I found several other posts on what sounds to be the same issue and unfortunately didn't find a resolution. [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] please review this as this is unsafe. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I have experienced several instances where the car accelerates for a few seconds even after l let go the accelerator pedal. I will select the most recent date as I experience this almost once everyday.

The contact owns a 2020 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while making a turn into a parking space, the vehicle unintendedly accelerated, drove up the curb, hit and drove over the metallic bank sign pole, which damaged the undercarriage of the vehicle. The vehicle then crashed into the sides of two unoccupied vehicles that were parked perpendicularly to the contact's vehicle. The vehicle then stopped. The contact stated that one of the vehicles that the vehicle had crashed into was pushed a third of a block away. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed during the failure, but the vehicle failed to respond. The message "brake failure" was displayed, and several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The air bags did not deploy. No police report was filed, and no injury was sustained. The vehicle was towed to an autobody repair shop, where it was repaired for the damage sustained. Additionally, the contact stated that while pulling into a parking space in front of the residence, the brake pedal was depressed, but the failure recurred, causing the vehicle to crash into the rear of another parked and unoccupied vehicle. The other vehicle sustained minor damage. The air bags did not deployed. No police report was filed, and no injury was sustained. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to call the manufacturer for diagnostic testing to be performed by an engineer with better electrical equipment. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed; however, no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was unknown.
When driving along using the cruise control, the vehicle will suddenly act as it is avoiding a collision. The collision warning will show on the dashboard and the car will suddenly slow down to a stop or near stop until I disengage the cruise control and hit the gas pedal. This has happened multiple times while I was driving along a paved road with no other cars or obstacles visible ahead of me. Fortunately, so far, no vehicle was following me at close range but my car stopping in the middle of the road without warning could easily cause a rear end collision or other severe accident.
Unknown my car wasn’t getting any gas stuck in traffic. Have complained to the dealership about the recall and the problem I was having I was given the run around about replacing the fuel pump.
I’m reporting a high-pitched noise issue with my 2025 Honda Cr-v sport hybrid. At highway speeds (approximately 68–74 mph), a persistent, high-frequency tone becomes audible from the front driver’s side of the vehicle. It is sharp, constant, and noticeably affected by the vehicle’s battery charge and speed. There are no warning lights, messages, or error indicators. However, the sound is extremely distracting and physically uncomfortable to endure. My wife has a preexisting auditory condition (tinnitus), and this sound makes it extremely difficult to drive or ride in the vehicle without pain or aggravation. It has made the vehicle nearly unusable for her on highways. I’ve brought this to a dealership, where multiple technicians and even a factory engineer inspected the vehicle. They confirmed the presence of the sound using audio measurement tools, and noted that similar sounds are present in other Cr-v hybrids. Despite this, I was told by the manufacturer that the sound is “normal” and that no fix is currently available. This issue has been present since I first took possession of the vehicle. The dealership and manufacturer have confirmed that it exists, but no resolution has been provided. While I may be one of the first people to raise the issue, I believe this may become a much broader concern. A continuous, high-pitched noise at highway speeds could be dangerous—it might distract drivers, cause fatigue, or even lead to long-term hearing discomfort or damage. I am hoping that NHTSA will investigate this issue or track whether other drivers begin reporting similar experiences. I would welcome any guidance on what steps I can take next, or whether further inspection of the vehicle is possible.
I have repeatedly had to bring my car into the shop (6 times now, only owned it for 5 months) to have the spark plugs and/or fuel injectors replaced multiple times. The car will suddenly start shuddering when trying to accelerate over 2 rpm. It has also stalled twice (while accelerating it slowed down to a stop in the middle of the road) and the engine light will flash. Mechanics have noted misfires in the engine and that the plugs/injector are getting clogged and dirty very quickly. I don't know much about vehicles, but I know I should not have to be replacing the spark plugs and fuel injectors 2-3 times in 5 months of ownership as I've never had to replace them in previous Honda vehicles that were owned for 5+ years.
The vehicle has a consistent problem where all dashboard warning lights come on at the same time, sometimes when this happens the vehicle enters what they call limp mode and won't go above 10-20 mph. This occurred multiple times to me and recently on the highway where a tractor trailer almost hit my vehicle because of the loss of speed with no brake lights. It has been to multiple Honda dealerships where most recently I was told it was fuel injectors. I replaced the fuel injectors and it happened again this time the dealership told me to replace the turbo. Did that and on the way home from the dealership the lights come back on. There should be a class action law suit against Honda for this common issue that they don't take seriously. Wait until someone actually is hurt by this problem.
I was driving back from work on the highway, and I was suddenly not able to accelerate. The car was slowing down, and the engine light was flashing. I pulled over to the shoulder and drove slowly about a half a mile to the exit. I pulled over at the gas station. Left my car there and took uber home. The next day, when I went to pick it up, the flashing engine light was off and drove fine and I was good to go like nothing had happened. Once at work, I researched the problem and found post about a similar issue. I took it to the nearest Honda dealer and they couldn’t find any problem with the car. They also said there is no recall on the VIN number. I called Honda to file a complaint but I was told the same thing that there is no recall on this car and to work directly with the dealer. I am afraid to drive my car on a highway and if it happens again I may get into an accident.
The contact owns a 2024 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated while driving in stop-and-go traffic, the vehicle unintentionally accelerated while the brake pedal was being depressed. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an auto repair shop where it was diagnosed however the failure was unidentifiable. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 9,700.
I was on the highway going approximately 65mph for 10 minutes when my engine light turned on and began blinking. Immediately when it turned on I lost the ability to accelerate and had to go across 3 lanes of extremely busy and fast traffic to pull over onto the shoulder. Once I was on the shoulder, I shut my car off for 2 minutes and restarted it and the car worked as normal again. The initial incident occurred on October 4th, 2024, and it has happened again on November 29th, 2024. I do have an image of the engine light on that was taken on October 4th if that would be helpful at all. I've looked online to find out that other Honda Cr-v hybrid owners have had this issue with no fix provided from Honda at all. Their advice is to leave the car running and get it towed to a Honda dealership immediately, which can be extremely expensive depending on your distance to a dealership and sometimes not feasible if I'm on my way to my job and cannot call out "sick". I feel as though this is irresponsible of the dealership to put the onus on consumers, and is clearly a recall waiting to happen that they just haven't admitted to yet.
The speedometer can report zero (0) when the car is moving slowly. This is probably the rounding policy in software. The actual speed was maybe 0. 4 mph, but was reported as zero mph. If the actual speed was 10. 4 mph but reported as 10, fine, not a big deal, but zero has a much different meaning than any other value. It means none, that the car isn't moving, but the car was.
The contact owns a 2021 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while reversing into her driveway at 1 mph, the vehicle accelerated, the brake pedal was applied but locked up, and the steering wheel locked up. The vehicle crashed through a guardrail and crashed into a tree. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number 23v844000 (electrical system). The driver sustained injuries to her head, neck, back, and body, and emotional distress and medical attention were provided at the scene. There was no reported fire or airbag deployment. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a body shop. The contact called the local dealer but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, who opened a case, but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.
The contact owns a 2022 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while attempting to park the vehicle, the vehicle suddenly accelerated on its own. As a result, the contact briefly lost control of the vehicle, only coming to a complete stop after colliding with a tree. The air bags did deploy. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard pending a determination from the contact's insurance provider. A police report was filed, but no injuries were reported. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 28,000.
The Honda of downtown chicago dealership has informed us that there is a fuel injector problem with this vehicle. On 8/11/24 it caused the vehicle to cycle through a series of errors before it stopped accelerating on the highway with our young son inside, and eventually stopped moving altogether after we were able to get off on an exit. When the car failed, we were given a final power system warning. It should be noted that we took the vehicle to the Honda of downtown chicago dealership months prior for a the same kind of warning lights (emissions warning, lane departure warning, etc) and a very loud rumbling noise. At that time, the servicing team at the dealership did not disclose that it was or could be a fuel injector issue. Instead, they said that the computer just needed to be “reset” and that the rumbling could be attributed to the vehicle being a hybrid. At this time, the vehicle is with the Honda dealership for repair. They have not provided a timeline for repair or provided a loaner car.
A few times while using the vehicle’s cruise control system, our 2021 Honda crv suddenly started braking on its own automatically, for no apparent reason. It was sudden, surprising, jarring, and scary. Thank goodness no one was injured. The vehicle components have not been inspected yet by any party and is available for inspection. There were no warnings prior to the sudden automatic braking. We are reporting this to Honda today as well.
The contact owned a 2023 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle unintendedly accelerated. The contact stated that the failure occurred while driving on a busy four-lane highway. The contact stated that at one point the vehicle was on two wheels to avoid crashing into a truck. The contact stated that his foot was on the brake pedal during the failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The was afraid of driving the vehicle and the vehicle was traded-in. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 22,472.
While driving on highway , I attempted to accelerate to pass , as I did all warning lights came on and I lost ability to accelerate. The car went into “limp mode “ . Took it to local mechanic, the to Honda dealer . I was told I need a new engine , at a cost of over $16k .
At 9k miles excessive noise, sounds like a helicopter. Dealership confirmed all four tires were scalped, did an alignment and thought it might correct the problem. It has not, both the dealer and corporate Honda refused to correct. Adaptive cruise control malfunction, major safety hazard. When engaged the car unexpectedly stops at all speeds on highway or rural roads, with no cars in sight in front of the vehicle. Have experienced multiple incidents or near rear end collisions because of abrupt braking. When brought to dealer they claimed they couldn't find any error codes, thought that maybe dirt was on the two radar sensing units. . . Not the case, still continues to be an issue. Car turns off unexpectedly. . . On an on ramp to a highway, traffic was stopped. When traffic started moving the car turned off completely. . . Warning light stated see dealer. Put the car in park and restarted vehicle, brought to dealer who claimed no error codes. All the above happened at the 9k miles, none of the major safety hazard issues were confirmed by the dealer or corporate Honda. Am at a loss as to next steps. Please advise, thanks.
The contact owns a 2014 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated while driving at 25-50 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact's son test drove the vehicle and experienced the same failure. The contact attempted to depress the accelerator pedal and believed that there was no gasket on the fuel pump. The vehicle was taken to a dealer however, the dealer could not recreate the failure with the accelerator. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

Honda crv hybrid, 6 months old, purchased new from the dealer. The car was parked on level ground. I started the car, shortly after I shifted it into reverse. Reverse camera turned on and the audible reverse sound turned on. I let go of the brake, car drove forward. I applied the brake, shifted into drive, then back into reverse. When I let go of the brake I had the same issue, the reverse camera turned on and the audible reverse sound turned on but the car moved forward. The steering was stiff as well. I shifted into park, turned off and restarted the car and the faulty issue went away.
