The transmission was making noise and missing and the vehicle was not picking up speed.
I haven’t had the 2005 Honda Odyssey ex for a year and the transmission won’t shift into higher gears and when it does it jumps.
On 05 Honda Odyssey touring at 170,000 the vehicle will become so powerless. Wont shift. Let it cool down even with a extra tranny cooler and cleaned the sylenoids and replaced transmission filter and fluid did a flush to. It still is guttless. I have done exactly what it says to do, nothing changes. Did have tranny blowing out tranny fliuid and got that fixed . After driving the vehicle for a time frame and the fluid get hot the vehicle then looses all its power. This is bad and it must be recalled .
Transmission fluid blew out and had gave me no power . Smells but have rinsed/flushed the lines and tranny through already, plus installed a new transmission cooler radiator no issues and drove awhile then go drive around some more alll good then I go up a hill and boom and it still is happening. We have looked it over cant figure it out. Help please.

Subaru/Honda dealership refused to acknowledge secondary safety recall for fuel pump module, possible fire and explosion. ($710. 31 repair estimate) dealership inspection showed additional safety issues/repairs needed to steering and axles that exceeded $6,000. 00 in repairs. Vehicle purchased and sold with no concern for safety or dependability. All trust violated, we can not trust this dealership with repair or service of our vehicles. Dealership refused to acknowledge even after investigation by the ohio attorney general. We requested an investigation as to how a vehicle with so many safety and repair issues was sold to us as a well maintained vehicle with no issues. Previous repairs exceeded $8,000. 00. All documentation is with the oag.
The contact owns a 2005 Honda oddysey. While driving up an incline at 40 mph, the vehicle stalled. It was diagnosed that the vehicle needed a new transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The approxmate failure mileage was 144,400.
The transmission has been whining since 75000k. It failed completely at 142000 miles. Here's what finally killed it, I was making a u turn in a parking lot at my kid's school. I had to have it towed back to the house. This transmission has been a total liability for me and my family. Now we're in a major pickle.
The vehicle started to redline. The speedometer quit working. The check engine light came on. The d light started blinking. No power was going to the wheels. We pulled over, came to a stop, and shut of the engine. There was smoke.
My wife had a doctor's appointment and was waiting in the office. She has parked the car in parking lot. After sometime all of a sudden car's alarm went off. All from doctor's office rushed out to parking lot to see what happened. She noticed some smoke coming out under the hood. And within seconds car caught fire and burnt. Whole front of the car burnt completely. Insurance company has called it a total loss. I'm still puzzled to figure it out why this has happened. Car was parked and engine was off. Car was maintained as per the Honda's guidelines. There were no problems or warning signs what so ever. It was running perfectly fine. Had only 76000 miles on it. And strongly believe many years of driving left in it. We were pleased with the performance of it over the years. I'd ask nhsta to look in to the incidence and have Honda contact me and reimburse for our loss which is not at all our fault.
Where do I start. . . . Original owner, purchased brand new. No problems for about 3-4 years, and then: transmission whine, took in to dealer off and on for several years, could never identify issue, they said. But as soon as the drivetrain warranty expired, miraculously, they identified it, and now say I need a new transmission. Motor mounts found to have cracked; problem is very common per internet forums, but Honda dealership denies responsibility for poor design/faulty mounts. Door for second row has issues sliding; another common problem per internet but not per dealer. And finally, the struts for the rear hatch broke, almost injuring my son very badly when he was putting his bike in the back. Took the car to the dealer and asked about a recall and they said no. I paid $300 4 months ago, and just now found that there was a recall 3 years ago, and they denied it!!!!! I hate Honda and will never buy their cars, and do not trust the dealership. Ughhh!!!!.
Power steering does not work well at low speeds (I. E. Parking and turning corners). Vehicle is hard to turn and could result in crash. Also, rear motor has failed, which could result in undesirable shifting of transmission.
Transmission trouble happens when first started in the morning. Has shifting problems at every speed. Will never go into top gear until vehicle has warmed up, is turned off, and turned back on. Then shifts normally. Replacing with new ecm (engine control module) did not fix. Was told to replace the mounts too, did not fix either.
I was driving 50-55mph on the highway, when my engine malfunction and blinking "d" indicator came on, I took it to a mechanic and immediately he told me he had other Honda come in with the same problem, he told me it was a problem with the transmission, and it was something frequently in model year from 1999-2006, and that Honda was ignoring the problem, please help I have a 2005 Honda Odyssey and it giving the same issues.
The throttle goes to idle setting while driving and does not respond to the gas pedal. The problem is intermittent. The throttle responds again after about a minute after the problem occurs.
Car jerks violently when shifting from one gear to another. On December 27, car stopped shifting and stalled on the freeway at night with my family in it. It stopped changing gear while I was going up hill and had to be towed. Luckily I was able to guide it out of the freeway traffic. Car was usually serviced at a Honda dealership.
I have very low mileage and the transmission seems to be going out. Also the rear main seal has blown. The mechanic says because of the transmission it affect the rear seal. I know Honda has had several issues with its transmissions and they have helped some people and not others. I filed a claim and was denied yet it seems there are issues that are the same as others that have been helped.
Transmission buzzes and shifts at 11 mph when not needing to do so.
Without warning, on a busy interstate in birmingham, al while traveling to florida on vacation, my vehicle's transmission burned up and gave out. There was no warning light, no hint of an issue prior to it failing, and a transmission flush and fill was performed at 60,000 miles two years ago, per the recommended interval by Honda. I had to pull over two lanes to the shoulder in rush hour traffic at full speed with my car smoking and spewing transmission fluid all over the roadway and cars (plus a motorcycle) that were behind me.
Motor surges while driving down the highway.
Vehicle has been exhibiting a very harsh shaking/vibration while in eco mode. This is distracting as well as uncomfortable. Recently the vibration has gotten so bad, we can not see out of any of the mirrors as the shaking vibrates them to the point of complete uselessness. The worst part is that we just paid $2000 at a dealership to replace the rear motor mount and flush transmission again. We have had this van since 60k and serviced transmission four times now, replacing motor mount twice. This time, with no apparent effect.
I'd been experiencing symptoms of judder for over 3 years that I have been driving Odyssey. It's rare and hard to replicate, so never bothered taking to Honda dealership or any other mechanic. I recently learned that Honda had a service bulletin but I was not aware of the same. It basically means Honda knew about the problem and there were other owners who had experienced similar problem. (per Honda it's a service bulletin, but not a recall, so I was not pro-actively informed about it). As part of the service bulletin they extended the warranty (8 years/105k miles) and would fix the issue for free. I was not aware of this. Service bulletin: 12-029 when I learned about this my vehicle had crossed the age but not the mileage (2014 and 103k miles). I requested the dealer and Honda to make an exception as I was still within the miles that they had. I had been experiencing the problem long before I was aware, but didn't bother to fix it because it didn't bother my drive. I feel Honda should have fixed the issue for free, especially a known issue. Add to that I am curious why it's treated as service bulletin, but not a recall. In any event I wanted to share with NHTSA, other consumers and Honda.
The consumer is experiencing problems with the transmission. When the vehicle is going 45 mph or greater the rpm's drops down to about 1400 rpm's. When shifting into over drive. The engine begins to vibrates and will continue up to 55 mph. When accelerating above 55 mph the problem disappears. Owner has taken the vehicle to the dealer and has also contacted the manufacturer. Neither has a solution to this problem. Provide further details.
Just bought a 2005 Honda Odyssey. Right off the lot got on the freeway and the check engine light came on and started shutering and slipping . Very unhappy , slapped down $4000 as a down payment and financed the rest. Now I own a a van that has major problems and no cash to fix it. Havent even had it for a day and it already has transmission problems. Need Honda to fix it at their expense. Their impecable repution is getting destroyed with this transmission problem that all Odyssey owners are having with models 2005- 2009 . They charge a premium for their vehicles and should be forced to repair their defective transmissions regardless of milage on vehicles. Our government needs to step in and help its citizens with this problem.
While casually accelerating from a stop, the transmission will start shuttering somewhere between 15 and 35 miles per hour. In order to get the transmission to stop shuttering, I must press down harder on the accelerator to get the van to shift to a higher gear.
I have a 2005 Honda odyessy touring. There is a strong shuddering and shake when I reach the speeds of 20-30 mph. This also happens when the eco mode engages. I have also noticed that I am not getting the same fuel economy with this issue. I am hesitant to call Honda with my VIN. For the fact of them deleting any recall or problems with my van. After reading many articals about Honda owners experiencing the same issues as mine. My only question to NHTSA. What are you waiting for to make Honda be held responsible for this serious problem. Perhaps Honda is paying you off to ignore the problem exsist. I have been contacted by Honda dealerships wanting to purchase my van. I do not have my van listed for sell or have I thougt about selling it. How is it they are able to get my address and phone number? this leads me to believe that Honda knows that this problem exsist. If they can get owners such as myself fo fall for there game plan. The dealer is going to get issue fixed at no charge to them. Then sell the van for much more than they are offering me. Even when I told them no! they continued to call me asking if I would reconsider the offer of selling the van. Is this just coincidece of a cover up by Honda or the demand for these vans is high. Hummmm!.
I have a 2005 Honda Odyssey exl and it has a severe vibration when operating in the eco mode. Research online shows the known cause is premature failure of the rear engine mount. There are literally thousands of forums and complaints for the identical problem. Honda has not issued a recall and the repair cost is $650.
The contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the vehicle began exhibiting unusual vibrations while driving at approximate speeds of 35-40 mph. The vehicle was taken to a local transmission shop where the contact was informed that the drive train needed to be replaced. The contact called the manufacturer and was informed that there was no longer an active warranty on the vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000. Updated 11/03/10.
I am a member of the 05' Honda Odyssey growling club. I started having a vibration - growling noise in the driveline @ 60 to 70 mph and @ 2000 rpm. This started 7 months after ownership and 9900 miles later. I have also noticed on the forums that may other complaints on this same item - I have taken into shop three times and both dealerships state that all the noises are normal. Sound appears to get louder - is that normal??.
